Obviously, this is more news worthy to the admin than the Calabar carnival tragedy that took over 15 lives yesterday.

Maybe in 2 weeks or a month, those that depend on Nairaland for their news would get an update about the Calabar carnival tragedy.

Also, this particular Soludo’s news is in the past. It’s a stale news. Other Online media dropped the story yesterday.

Terrible event. The state ought to declare a period of mourning. How can you have a carnival in a period of mourning But it appears, these lives are inconsequential and the show must go on. Today, the state continues with its carnival.

I think this headline can be better.

The man is popular in his own right, and he has achieved enough that such an event regardless of who his son is, is newsworthy.

He is not just Isbae U father. He is a popular Yoruba movie star. Even far popular among the older population than Isbae U.

And his name should be in the headline. His name is KAMAL.

Gods comfort to those he left behind.

The victims of the protests in the East are easterners. More Ibos have been killed. This year, thousands in the diaspora are not coming home, due to the insecurity situation in the east. Who lost? The local communities. One day, this communities will set up vigilantes and there will be a civil war among the easterners.

High blood pressure can cause stroke. Not orgasm. With High blood pressure, it doesn’t matter the activity. You could even be eating.

Physical inactivity/obesity, Cholesterol imbalance (Fat and Cigarette consumption), diabetes, prior transient body weaknesses or slurred speeches, heart diseases among others, are risk factors that can increase the likelihood of a stroke.

Crime / Re: FHQ Condemns Bolanle Raheem's Death - FPRO, Olumuyiwa Adejobi by othermen: 7:53pm On Dec 26, 2022
What is justice unless there is an overhaul of the system that produced the killer cop? If this one is removed, another one just picks up his weapon, and it is another death some days later.

When this happens, our outburst is temporary & ineffective, we move, 'wasn't us' 'not a relative' ... the problem with moving on & not demanding proper change is you or your loved one, will meet another product of the police reality that produced this killer cop.

She belongs to a circle that have made her fatal situation prominent , yours don’t even have such a belonging. In spite of that, by tomorrow , we will back to the issues of yesterday. The victim joins a long list of people who are just going about their lives, but employees of the Nigeria police whether drunk or under the influence; have those lives cut short.

Now, she didn't fit the appearance of the youths the police were known to murder. could have been any of us, your mother, father, sibling, uncle, niece, or nephew. just a going to church and never returning. not your business today, okay.. wait till it is, for it should be.

It is that police reality that needs an overhauling. when you end SARS, the officers are rebranded, but the mentality remains the same. From attraction to recruitment to training, to constant psychological evaluations of members of the force; there is to be done.

Nigeria itself needs an overhauling!!!

The protesters are sadly, not organic.
Emefiele needs to be forthcoming with Nigerians. If he is, and he can convince that this battle is in our interest; not for some political ulterior motives- then he should count on the support of well meaning Nigerians.

But all through, the Buhari administration, Emefiele has failed Nigerians. If this is chance at redemption, and he’s been put out. We may be in.

Politics / Re: CBN: Cash Withdrawal Limits Will Tame Electronic Fraud by othermen: 6:52am On Dec 19, 2022
Okay, but the fraudsters can still use online wallets.

The CBN assumption appears to be fraud through cards. Fraudsters have facilities to move fund around. At the ATM, you can do a transfer above the daily limit with your card, the POS is a payment platform, you can equally do that much transfer. If your details or card is compromised, this policy won’t protect you as such; except the CBN is referring to petty thieves.

What others do, they don’t even do transfers to multiple bank accounts of those around them; all they need do, is use such wallets to purchase items online. The platforms are instantaneous.

fraudsters withdrawing cash or stealing money at night, has always been limited.

The CBN attempt to muddle the fact sends a dangerous signal, they may not know what they are doing. The policy is not a limit on your daily spending, but a limit on the physical cash you are allowed to withdraw for the day. You can do transactions in the millions on online platforms, so can fraudsters.

The Emefiele led CBN has been naive in its policies, they assume the actors they are dealing with or protecting Nigerians from , have limited brains and resources. Policies have to be well-thought and holistic and such assumptions as they have had, re-examined.

Hon Kazuare recently provided information concerning how these policies are embedded in self-interest and how a deputy governor within the CBN escalated corruption involving Emefiele by whistle blowing. The media didn’t pick the story, because of Emefiele’s influence. The point however is, if there are such internal ramblings in our apex financial institution; they certainly cannot be optimal in their policy delivery.

Also, it may be the case that many of the key workers were rewarded with their job role or position as a result of their ethnicity or contact. It’s such contacts they serve, not Nigerians. For years, CBN can’t even regulate its hiring issues by getting on board- at least the best economics graduate students across the country universities. This don’t help them to make holistic decisions or be able to implement such decisions, even when their intentions are noble.
Travel / Re: First Time Traveller: How Can I Book A Local Flight In Nigeria? by othermen: 11:35am On Dec 18, 2022
Airpeace, Green Africa, United Nigeria, and Dana air go to Owerri; at least those are the ones I am aware of. For Tuesday, 20th. The only available one is Dana Air, and it's 80,000 as of now. https://secure.flydanaair.com/bookings/flight_selection.aspx

Alternatively, you can use Green Africa, but then the flight is for tomorrow. It is currently at #61,500. https://www.greenafrica.com/en-us/

You have to understand, that in the next hour, Dana Air and Green Africa, may no longer be available as well. Or the price may have gone higher. So, be timely about your decision. You can easily book by yourself on the website.

Sports / Re: Adidas Collapses As Leo Messi's Argentina Jerseys Are Soldout Worldwide by othermen: 6:29pm On Dec 17, 2022
how did adidas ''collapse''? that they can't meet demands is not evidence of collapse or evidence of any extraordinary success of the jersey.

Ronaldo Man Utd jersey sold a record 60 million dollars only 24hrs after his return was announced. how much has been made from Messi's?

Ronaldo is also Adidas. They couldn't as well meet demands. but then Marca knows, we will all click on this story anyway, whether Ronaldo or Messi.

NB
Manchester United jersey is produced by Adidas. Ronaldo’s sponsorship deal with Nike or whoever is personal. He still has to wear his team jersey. Messi had to wear Nike Barcelona jersey as well, despite having a sponsorship deal with Adidas. but these sponsorship deals are personal, their teams may have a very different sponsor from the players. For folks on here to be ignorant, and yet abusive- is some insane asylum bit.

Age is not always an evidence of maturity. Don’t be too bothered about such. If you find the boy offensive, avoid encounters with him. Same with the girl.

This does not mean that you should be arrogant or you ignore either of them, if they reach out. Don’t go about becoming bitter and angry. You would figure your own circle, they can be young, yet respectful and cordial.

If you carry yourself in a dignified manner, you can become so much more to this young boys. It is you that have to improve your absorber in how such interactions offend you. If you want respect anywhere, earn it. But the way to earn it, is not by alienating yourself, or by coercing fear. It’s by being responsible, by being cordial. Spend more time developing yourself. Studying and praying.

The money laundered is usually proceed of crime. If you have a business that involves the movement of high volumes of cash, it's pretty easy to navigate all of this nonsense. The greatest launderers are the owners of our financial institutions.

This is probably pointless. but is it?? and what would I rather they do?? Will the cash be tracked?? Have they thought such policies as they have, might likely increase the hoarding of cash? but all the way, if it will curb corruption, Great actually!!!

The judge wanted to look better. There is nothing wrong with that, absolutely nothing.

Though there is risk in the quest to look better, things can get worse.

In Nigeria, in the course of your surgery, phone torchlight may be used, because no fuel after the surgery has commenced. In the theater, a cockroach can come through the surgical opening, and then thousands have died from such simple medical procedures, all in the name of avoidable complications. You cannot even afford an autopsy, and they all mostly watch each others back, to ensure you cannot get justice.

This judge should have signed some paper therein, like the rest of us, mitigating the surgeons liability. but of coz, she is more learned than the rest of us.

The judge has the financial resource to stop things from becoming utterly terrible. I hope she continuously has the power to intimidate and recover the amount she has lost and spent.

There are several others, who just die away after such botched procedures, because they know they will be judged and tormented to death by the public ridicule from hypocrites.

I hope others providing similar procedures are also checked.

It’s a good thing the provider that did the procedure is brought to accountability.

Also, the Buhari administration failed Nigeria in its fight against corruption. It was mostly all noises and dramas. Rochas for instance is all good.

Everything is going backwards, but the president is clueless. Nothing changes. Not even some pretending. And we have a senate that during the screening, all that is on their mind is getting the cvs of those in their powerful circle across- for recruitment. Whether these ones are also competent is another question.

These people skills are hardly in their field competence than in their human relation skills.
In the current position, some of them may yet be limited in the range of actions they can take. If a solution to our forex troubles affect a Tinubu; then we must forgo such solution, so that we can retain this office, when he is president.

Sadly, the critical position is a reward and competence is secondary to the attainment of it.

You just have to put yourself deliberately in situations where you can exercise your weakness, and with practice, it becomes strength. Your voice may be shaky today, but if you command again and know exactly what you have to say by practicing before hand, you would definitely get better. Even the best commanders once had such shaky voices.

As to your subordinate undermining your authority. This happens everywhere. Being a leader, is about reconciling your unit, to trust in your leadership. You have to convince them. You could have had that conversation with the affected lady privately, conveying your objection or reservations about her attending the event, and how doing such goes against the company policies and can get her fired. If you have done this, perhaps, there’d be little to do with the rest of your subordinates on the matter.
Don’t antagonize your subordinates, you are supposed to coordinate them, they are meant to support you. If you go down the road of the dogs or pigs, you would get torn apart or muddled.

This is all an opportunity for you to learn, I hope you use it judiciously. The little skills you learn from navigating this successfully; can certainly be the basis of subsequent leadership opportunities for you.

Nigeria has happened to the occupants. Either they were kidnapped, or the vehicle was borrowed for criminal activities and then abandoned. Whichever it is, Nigeria happened to the occupants. Nigeria happened to the individuals that are the victims, Nigeria happened to the individuals that are the perpetrators.

Yet, we want a government who feels he has no obligation to talk to us or to address the Nigeria press.

We will all be affected by the choices we make. If you choose not to vote, then don’t have a family member that will have to use Lagos-Ibadan expressway, then never have any condition that will require you getting emergency healthcare, then never have any family member in any federal school.

The insecurity in Lagos is only getting started. This terrible economy has driven a lot to crime; and yet you don’t mind a continuation of it.

Continue.

When the next administration hands off university as Buhari has insinuated. UNN will charge a fee much more than covenant university currently does. ASUU has endeavored to ensure this is not the case. Majority of ASUU members are currently in debt, others have had to remove their children from schools, families have had to change neighborhoods as they cannot afford rent; in all of these, but ultimately, Ngige has broken the union’s spirit and now there is none to protect the students from what is to befall them.

Crime / Re: 'demonic Journalism' - Nigerian Military Blasts Reuters Over Feature Stories by othermen: 10:07am On Dec 03, 2022
If Reuters has a story, they have a reputation that many would believe, it wasn't concocted from the air, it had its sources. They probably would even get first-hand stories.

This press release could have addressed the intent of such sources, and what the gain might be for detractors of the Nigerian army, this release could have addressed why such accusation or vilification might be projected.

The army's reputation is clear. Their participation in the endsars protest, what they did with the followers of El-zakzaky...all this evidence put the army at a disadvantage in their bid to convince that it's incapable of such a ridiculous claim.

Again, I think this press release could have addressed the matter in a much more intelligent-driven way. To dismiss Reuters, you should create a motive, to justify why their report is biased and dangerous to the progress the army has made; and why the enemies of the nation may lend themselves to Reuters to destroy the army's reputation.

That is why a CBN does not have the intelligence that is had in the parallel market. That is why the economy of our country is in jeopardy.

Private organizations seeking to exploit the system, have rigorous recruitment processes to hire the best minds. These companies, then do the nation a fool; taking advantage of inefficiency and incompetency in our public sectors.

Again, in our government institutions, our best minds should represent us and we are where we are today as a nation because we have a lot, there, through uncompetitive processes. A lot, that should not even be near these vital institutions.

The cost of food is at an all time high. The minimum wage can only buy half a bag of rice. Poverty level is at its highest; yet the NLC is nowhere to be found.

The cost of transport is at an all time high. More than half of the middle class have dropped into poverty. Buhari hates the opposite; and yet the NLC cannot even cough.

Ayuba Wabba will end his term, and his glaring failures at the leadership helm of the NLC will never get overshadowed.
