I have long wanted to create a thread on this subject but thank God its here today.
There is a lot of ignorance on what actually goes on at the international airports and how it affects businesses especially importers.

The law states you have to declare any money above $10000, but strangely any cash declared above $10000 dollars is seized at the point of exit.

This is a direct consequence of the overzealous actions of the newly constituted presidential task force on currency trafficking at the airports.

Now am not talking because I heard from someone but because I've been a victim myself.

I normally source goods from Dubai for resale in Nigeria and have been doing it for over 5 years. For those who are familiar with Dubai travellers, you will note that most of us travel with cash as its cheaper and more convenient that transfers.

The normal routine is when i get to the airport, i declare the amount cos its always more than $10000 after which you are allowed to board.

What people don't realise is that the new CBN policy forbids payment of dollars into domiciliary accounts and also placed embargo on international transfers due to concerns about money launderers.

Now I was supposed to make my latest trip sometime last week but was unaware of this new task force guys.

Upon arrival, I declared the cash on me to the custom guys($54,000). I was then taken to a room upstairs where I was told I couldnt travel cos I have more than the allowed $10000. I asked why and they said it was an administrative change within. To my greatest consternation I was also informed my cash have been seized and that I wouldnt be allowed to make the trip cos I was under arrest and would be taken to the EFCC immediately.

I asked why that was the case since I declared on arrival and I was told the new mandate given to them from Abuja was to impound any cash above $10000 whether declared or not.

In fact we were four in total held for the same offence that day and everyone of us declared our cash on arrival but the cash was impounded and after some little delay we were all bundled to the EFCC office on Awolowo road Ikoyi.

As am speaking to you now my cash hasn't been returned as I was released on bail pending the outcome of their investigation. My business have been effectively suspended for the time being as I await their investigation which from information I gathered takes months to complete. Is this fair?

For those who wld want to accuse me of being a wailer pls go through my previous posts on nairaland to see I campaigned and voted for change but certainly not the type I witnessed or the one happening to me.

I believe businessmen need to speak out on what's happening to us at the airports else we risk losing our source of livelihood due to some draconian govt policies.

A lot of these women with multiple children are victims of unscrupulous men who use and abuse them and then abandon them, also many are uneducated or from very poverty stricken backgrounds you rarely see educated western women in such situations so in the end it boils down to poor choices and lack of education.

Absolutely!, and some of this women are perhaps searching for love (like most westerners), father figure, Stable relationship, some rely on men for emotional support as they are not getting support from their not caring parent (usually single mothers themselves), but unfortunately ends up having children with different men, and still searching.

The sad thing is niggas are still trying to get into her pants regardless. As i asserted earlier niggas ain't Angels, they put this woman in this situation.

Every one is on here cursing and blaming the girl but forgetting that she did not make this 4 kids alone.

The fathers of those children may have left her and their babies for other women, without caring who looks after those children.

Lastly, it takes two people to make babies the fathers should take some responsibility too.

Women like this are all over the place in the US. Four kids from four men means getting child support from four different men. That's how messed up the system is.

So, most likely she gets money from each of the men every month until each of the kids turn 18.

Men that don't pay child support usually end up locked up or with suspended licenses in some states. Some men cant even work anymore because child-support is automatically withdrawn from their pay checks.

Depending on how many times some men have been hit by women like this, some men's pay check is less that 10% of what they actually worked for. The rest is taken by the system, for their various baby mamas and taxes. At the end of the day, men like that don't see nothing in working anymore and would rather hustle to make it on the streets. I guess that's why many American women like foreigners, we work and get the bills paid.

I've met several women like this. They spend extra much on their appearance and cars, in reality, their only income is from men they have kids for.

If she doesnt want any more kids, it's most likely because of the tax return restrictions - you can't get tax refunds for more than four kids in the US. That's another part of the women hustle.

I won't even trust using a rubber for someone like this; I know a lot of dudes messed up from dealing with her type.

Absolutely!, it also takes too to tango, the guys who got her pregnant knowing she already has children should take responsibility too. So if money is taken from their pay cheques so be it!

Really? What if they are innocent? What if they are just lucky to be alive? Therefore There is a need for further or too much investigation, as you put it. Subsequently every one and every avenue is suspicious applies in this case.

I have been a victim of food poisoning numerous times.
The thing i noticed is that most of these "poison" centres will refuse to show you their kitchen if you request to see it.
Any restaurant that knows what they are doing should be proud to have customers over to their kitchen but that is not the case in the poison centres in Nigeria.

I used to live the fast food life; going to fancy and expensive restaurants and i paid the price.
There was a time i used to fall sick every month.

Nowaday, i try to cook for myself and when things get too hairy, there is someone i invite to cook for me.
The only thing i buy outside now is snacks and i buy it from the restaurants i can trust.

The situation is really appalling.
In the developed world, even the smallest restaurants meets up with standards.
The "street food" in the developed countries are also hygienic.

Everything in Naija just get k-leg..

oh! There is no need to panic as long as the food is covered with the blood of jesus, i think you will not get poisoned , unless you don't have faith/ believe.

The one that shocked me was a lady who makes snacks like buns (Nigerian deep-fried type) and puff-puff. She had these snacks in her glass display cabinet which had flies and little baby cockroaches in it.

To chase away flies and cockroaches that come visiting anytime she displays here snacks, she put some ''piff-paff'' insecticide powder into the glass cabinet. The same cabinet where she had lots of buns and puff-puff. And according to her, she makes sure the powdered insecticide does not touch the snacks. And in her opinion as long as it does not touch the snacks, then all is well and good.

that is a ticking time bomb, an accident waiting to happen, any one who sees aĺl that health hazards and still buys the puff puff must be suicidal, again anyway nigerians will believe as long as the puff puff is covered with the blood of jesus, it will not harm them, typical!

Some of you so called christians are already insulting and claiming to know God, without understanding what the topic is about, all this fake believers! Are quick to defend God, use the brains that God has already giving to you, think rationally, health and safety is very important, did God not say he helps those who help themselves? Ofcourse God will save people but people need to try and save themselves also.by following safety rules. Some nigerians don't even bother to wear sit belt, they don't even know how to wear it or what seat belt are made for. It boggles the mind.

Majority of Nigerians are irresponsible people and they show this irrational attitude on the road.
Majority of drivers in Nigeria don't know speed limits.
You see Nigerian drivers driving on streets in residential areas like they are driving Formula One race.
Now you wonder how illiterates who cannot read and write got their drivers license?
The accidents in Nigeria will be reduced by 90% when the Federal Road Safety Commission does the following simple things:

1. Road Safety Campaigns on TV,, newspapers, radio and social media.
2. Road Safety Campaigns at motor parks and depots.
3. Road Safety Campaigns in churches, mosques, schools and clubs.
4. Ban the sale of alcohol and smoking at motor parks.
5. Check all public transport buses and cars at the motor parks before they drive out of the motor parks and impound all vehicles that are not road worthy and STOP COLLECTING BRIBES FROM ERRING DRIVERS!
6. Impound the cars, buses, SUVs and trucks of over speeding drivers and fine them N200, 000 or more for endangering the lives of other road users.
7. Stop selling drivers license to illiterate drivers. [/size]
