Culture / Re: Yorubas In Nigeria That Can't Speak Yoruba by ovadose(f): 1:32pm On Sep 15, 2008 |
Funny thing, others come and learn Yoruba. In all actuality, the more languages you speak, the greater ur advantantage with a lot of things. Employers are more open to hiring multiple language speakers irrespective of the language, be it indigineous or country wide. Havard i believe it is did a study, and the came up with the findings that pple that spoke more than one language were "more intelligent" than those that spoke only one. Their ability to think in multiple languages was a huge factor in their thought process. I am half Nigerian, and my mother speaks only English. My father spoke only English to us so that my mother would not feel excluded, except when he wanted to complain or talk about my mother. The best part of it, my mother always took us to the market ( and made us listen in on the market womens converstation), hired help that didnt speak any English around the house. Learning a language is a choice, that is either made or not made for a variety of reasons. like everything else is life, there is really no excuse for an excuse if it is something u want. My Yoruba has since improved as an adult, because i made a conscious decision to further educate myself in it. I wont put down anyone who chooses not to speak it, but when the reason is that it takes away from the persons command of the English language, then that is utter bullocks. PS: I speak Yoruba, like a market woman from Ketu, and I am darn proud of it. Same way my command of the English language is excellent. It doesnt matter who i marry, my Children will learn Yoruba. |
Education / Re: Asian Education: Better Than Western Education? by ovadose(f): 12:23pm On Aug 05, 2008 |
it is not that Nigerians are not imaginative, or are genetically Challenged and cursed with a bankruptcy of the mind. The Nigerian society/ environment doesnt encourage it. it is the current generation that is starting to rebel against it. IT IS WELL! as long as pple lose the Doctor, Eng, Acct, & lawyer only mentality, then a lot of things will happen. |
Education / Re: Asian Education: Better Than Western Education? by ovadose(f): 12:20pm On Aug 05, 2008 |
the differenc between EAst and West is mindset nothing else. If you are looking for Academic challenges, Asia will work. If you are looking for a system that allows you be creative and process your own thoughts, the west is the answer. Go figure how the Facebooks, and Microsofts of the world came out of America. America educational systemencourages you to use ur mind, and not just regurgitate what thye teach u in the class. |
Religion / Re: Hurray! Pastor David Oyedepo (jnr) Wedding Today! by ovadose(f): 7:51am On Jul 29, 2008 |
Religion is really the opiate of the masses. Congrats to the couple. And to all, your spirituality & faith is between you and your God. Pastor worship wont bring you closer to your God. My Driver said something: go to night vigil, and all you see there are women. Sit back and think objectively.Even God allows for objectivity. |

Politics / Re: No Nigerian Citizenship For British By Marriage by ovadose(f): 11:10am On Jul 07, 2008 |
Hoping and praying will not move Nigeria forward. Actions compounded with prayers will. Nigerians have a habit of sitting back and praying without doing other things. Nigeria's changing starts with things as small as not litering the road when u walk, because at the end of the day- the Nigerian problem is one of attitude/mindset. when that starts to change, then other things will. |
Politics / Re: No Nigerian Citizenship For British By Marriage by ovadose(f): 11:05am On Jul 07, 2008 |
na2day, your point gives you no reason to quote what i have typed. Nigeria has given their ways of attaining citizenship. either u meet them or u don't. As for your biracial cousins, if they want Nigerian passports, they can be easily gotten, of course provided they have one Nigerian parent as stated in the Nigerian Law books. Being married to a Nigerian doesnt automatically grant u citizenship. Registration is or something funny like that is what does. Visiting Nigeria 2x a yr doesnt guarantee u a right to citizenship or residency either. Vested interests is what does. If you enter Nigeria 5x a yr for ex, and stay longer than 5 days, if your children go to school in Nigeria etc. THose are vested interests. Green passport is not for everybody. Nigeria like the UK or America can also decide who it issues its passports to. Bottom line it is a sovereign nation. There are Nigerian schools that don't accept foreign born students. First hand experience talking here. Nigeria in as much as some people think is no good is not a loss. THings might stillget worse, but all in all it is for better. at the end of the day, there is a limit on how low something can go, after which is starts to rise- ask half of the foreigners camped out in Nigeria, half of them see an untouched gold mine where otehrs don't. For all those that are hugging No-nigerian passpports - I pray for you that the day never comes where something happens, and u tag it out with immigration, and they deport u. As for me, My Nigerian and American passport sit side by side kissing each other. I pull out each one where appropriate. I enjoy the luxury of not having to pay for a visa to visit my own country. |
Education / Re: Expulsion Scandal Rocks Covenant University: 120 Students Expelled by ovadose(f): 11:54am On Jul 06, 2008 |
SOmetimes it is hard to understand the purpose of certain instituitions. Is Convenant grooming adults or spitting out 22 year old kids back into society with Diplomas in hand. It is a wonder some of the best Higher education instituitions are located in certain places. God help them sha. |

It is sad that the insults are going back and forth. THe poster asked about his wife, and why she was denied citizenship. I will speak from first hand experience, BECAUSE YOU ARE MARRIED TO A NIGERIAN DOESNT ENTITLE YOU CITIZENSHIP. Nigeria to you might not be the greatest nation, but it is a sovereign nation, and it has laws -whether they are always applied or not. Visiting Nigeria is not enough to get her citizenship. The procedure is she goes in on a visitors visa initially, and somehow leaves the country and comes back in often enough to show that she has genuine and vested interests in the country. Single visitors visa usually moves into Multiple Indefinite which they give for a number of years. It took my mother 20 something years to get "RESIDENCY" in Nigeria. Residency means u can stay for as long as u want obviously. I heard it is really hard to get a Green passport, she has stopped trying. At least with Residency, she can stay for life. Nigerian Passport is not an entitlement, it is a priviledge, irrespective of how messed up or not you think Nigeria is. If you want to get a fake passport for your British wife, good luck. I am Half Nigerian ( born outside of Nigeria), and i get questioned to death at muritala every time i present my Nigerian passport. I have full blown Nigerian names, but they want to know how i have a nigerian passport. Talkless of a white woman carryin one. If you want her to go to jail, please get her one illegally. I am sure kirikiri is tons of fun for a British person. |

Business / Re: Any Jamaicans In Nigeria? Will Nigeria Welcome Me There For Business? by ovadose(f): 3:15pm On May 20, 2007 |
I wouldnt say there are many Jamaicans in Nigeria. However there are many West Indians in Nigeria. There is an organization called NWIA- Nigerian West Indian Association. My mother is Jamaican, and she lives in naija on a semi permanent basis, Nigeria is lucrative for anyone that has a product that pple want. There are a good number of West Indians doing well in Nigeria. Or better yet, you can look for info on Nigerwives- it is mostly made up of women, but they welcome men. Pretty much a group of non-Nigerians married to Nigerians. Good luck on your quest. Nigeria and Jamaica have a lot of similarities, but you will experience culture shock as is expected when you live somewhere new |

Fashion / Re: Most Ladies Luv Carrying Big Hand Bags. Why ? by ovadose(f): 12:11pm On May 13, 2007 |
bags are the new fashion status indicators. They have a tendency to reflect the persons taste. Big bags rawk, they hold everything. A lot of my big handbags can hold my laptop. I like the convinience of being up to dump stuff in my bag and deal with it later or while i am out and about. |

ignorant pple like this watch good things pass right in front of their faces, because they are following some useless guidlines. There are no rules to love , dating or socializinge, the sooner people realize this, the easier things get for them, and the fuller the experiences they have. |
