Kano State Police told SaharaReporters an ambush at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday by suspected members of Boko Haram at a checkpoint at Madobi, Kano state. The attackers, in a Golf Volkswagon and 3 motorbikes, launched the surprise attack on the security checkpoint in Madobi/ Sanni Abacha Youth Centre in Panshekara, killing one.

Police regrouped and chased the attackers who abandoned their vehicles and escaped on foot. Police then searched the nearby Sani Abacha Youth Center in Pashekara and discovered bombs and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) already planted there by the insurgents.

Commissioner of police in the state, Alhaji K Idris, said they called in a special bomb unit to carry out the controlled detonation of the IEDs whose explosive sounds panicked local area residents.

A search is underway for the attackers.

I only read the first page and decided to reply without reading post that are either borne out of needless ethnic bigotry. I am married to an igbo woman and I'm a yobura person but I consider myself a Nigerian and also a world citizen. Prior to my NYSC, I had been conditioned to believing every other tribe save mine have problems only to discover that we are all just deceiving ourselves: we all have issues peculiar to us all either because of our beliefs or our environment. Truly, there are culture barriers that can be broken if only we can love each other like God asks to.

My wife is armed with two stories that are factual and she knows the characters that defied their parents to carry on with the multi-cultural nuptial. They are happy and thankful to God now and even all parties have "reconciled". I'm not saying go against your parents, but let them see that the reason God created us differently is to add flavour to our lives and spice it up. Also, to see how well we receive each other. We were all created by God to mingle and not to turn ourselves to gods and subjects.

Even before letting our respective parents know, we prayed and to God be the glory, there were no problems. Yes there were concerns and fears as to cultural differences but all were allayed as everyone wanted it to work. We have two beautiful children and are happy.

Nigeria may have been forced on us but God allowed it for a reason!!!

Foreign mixes are usually better and that results in better masters no doubt. It's not all the time though. We have a couple of 9ja engineers that do the job i.e. Foster Zino, Sesan etc.
What we do in Nigeria most of the time is mix extremely hot and then toast, sorry master. We don't even consider tracking properly and when you see those gigantic mixers and consoles in studios, sorry, they are just being used as amplifiers with stereo outs only.
Have you ever tracked all instruments on a song separately into audio? Do you take note of mic placements when recording vocals, Do you even make use of dedicated pre-amps outside the ones built in soundcards and mixers? Do you have at least a -6dB headroom on your master buss when mixing, Do you take advantage of proper uses of de-esser, eq, compressors, delays and reverbs?
After all is done with a mix that is hotter than hell, we usually pass it though T Racks or something like that to do further damage with vocals screaming like tortured demons over instrumentals with clarity of elements.
A good mix (in Nigeria and abroad) would however sound firstly, warm and pleasing to the ear and not cause fatigue with everything in its own sonic space and proper dynamics. After that, the master will give it tonal balance, punch and weight!
Just my thoughts,

Pls let us not confuse record labeel and recording studio! Yes most record labels in 9ja have studios but that is 4 their artists and 4 commercial uses. They don't neccessarily shoot videos for people either. All the above have studios, going to use their studio does not mean a thing like being signed on the label. People usually tend to think labels are record studios and vice versa. If talking about quality of studios, Orangootan and Questionmark rule but Im not sure if the former uses theirs commercially. If you need to shoot videos, get to production companies but that is not to say that the labels cant connect you but why do dat when ther's DJT, Clarence, Wudi Awa dem there?

Gud soundcard/audio interface i.e. MBox 2 Pro, EMU 1616, Delta 4/4, , monitors (speakers) like M Audio BX5a, Yamaha HS 50, and plz no Berhinger products @ least their monitors, optionally u can get a mic pre amp esp if usin a sound card without phantom pwr i.e. M Audio Delta series. U can also get a mixer which is also optional. A MIDI keybrd or controllr will b gud. Applicatns 4 ur system vary by choice or nid or even xprtise, FL Studio, Reason, Sonar, Logic, Pro Tools, Cubase/Nuendo, Reaper, Abelton Live, Wavelab, Soundforge, Acid, Audition, Some basic acoustic setup and a gud mic like Røde NT, AKG, M Audio products, All the abv may vary widely by choice and preference.

how does .wav format as output reduce quality? .wav is uncompressed and in comparism 2 mp3, its dopper as mp3 cuts most of d percieved inaudible frequencies 2 mak up a file takin up littl space. I do undastand what u mean if concerns yogen. Tried it, not 2 gud. Removin vocals depends a lot rcording or mixin technik usd 4 vocal. What these softwares do is to cut sound in d mono or stereo spectrum. Sonitus have atool called phase. It can greatly rduce vocals whn usd well or u can make use of mid-side processin plugins. Izotope Ozone is one of them. Othr creative techniks exist. Let me knw an example of a song and I'll see what I can do.

Nigerians usually refer em as techno just lyk most of our music is wrongly classified these days. Ask an afro pop artiste his genre and he is quick to say hip pop (hop)! Even our awards hardly eva get em rit not to talk of our journalists!
