so there was a heated argument at the office about nigerian music and artistes and the recording buisness in general...so i'd love for some real honest opinions.u dont have to be too lenghty if u dont want to.but pls say something.

1. A record label can sign any artist who can sing(has a voice) but cant write songs.that the record label can choose to write songs for the artist?

1. Yes; song writing can be outsourced.

2. No; there's no set period to release singles per se. It's depends, or should be on creative drive, promotional plan and/or relevance.

3. I don't know prior to the 'Limpopo' era - likely not - but probably has a fair share of Kcee's songs written by him these days.

4. Bros, dat one na big question greatly dependent on preference but personally, I thing Kcee has put out more hits on a smash hit scale. Talent? IMO, I think Iyanya is more diverse vocally and musically of he wants to be.

5. According to reports, titled it and likely co-wrote. Dont think he wrote it outrightly but just my guess.

6. Depends... there are the mushroom outfits that just start out and operate like investors and there are the properly structured labels in Nigeri, that is. Traditionally, a label is to have admin, A&R... departments so the former shouldn't in an ideal situation qualify. Heck some of the so-called labels don't even have agreements with artistes and know nothing about the workings of the business... a label is not a studio and is more than just a name.

Major problem is, we are credits-phobic down here for reasons I can't understand. If you make a contribution to a song lyrically, say a line like:

I will love you forever/ til I die, break we'll never
and you helped or single handedly change the last line to:
til we die, us together...

You are basically inducted into the writing team. You can however pass if you don't feel there's a need to be credited. If you however ask for a share of publishing (usually not in Naija) along with crediting, you all can discuss the relevance of your input... It doesn't have to be a million bucks but in a structured setting, this works and everyone involved gets paid.

Most Naija peeps just feel they sould keep all the crediting and its sad. What would have been wrong in Wande Cole simply acknowledging DJ as a writer (for the most part) of Babayface? or Tuface addressing the African Queen palava with Blackface? Some people can negotiate to be paid by points, very little portion of a songs sale. I mean producers and engineers sef do that. It only speaks well of you to share what was used to help you. That's why I always felt PSquare never did well to bottle up Waje when they could have been credited without qualms for introducing Waje to the world.

Omerian Consult: You are really going overboard to assist me. Thanks for that. Any two good stations in Lagos would do e.g. Ray Power and Eko FM. The advert could be played for two weeks. Please compute separately for voice over and jingles so l can make a comparison. Regards.

Have you produced the program as a pre-recorded one or is it supposed to be live?

When you say "what organizations will help me package the advert", do you mean adverts provided by potential sponsors or organizations that can produce adverts?

If you have sponsors, they would likely have had ads produced already and you'll just feature them at the required spots during the program. However, if you are to produce ads/jingles, several individuals/agencies/production houses can come up with creatives according to a brief and produce them for your sponsors. Of course, if it is live or pre-recorded, you'll most likely have to produce a pilot for your pitch unless you are sponsoring it yourself in which case you may not need ads unless you have a produce/service to sell.

Getting radio stations to play isn't a big problem once you buy airtime but that could be costly depending on duration of the show 10',15', 30'... frequency and spread (No. of stations). The costs vary and getting the rates are no secret. I can furnish you with rate cards if you wish but suggest you buy media through a professional or an agency.

A pianist is usually a trained performer and has put in a lot to understand music theories and can easily read music score sheets. A keyboardist on the other hand is a performer that can indeed play the piano but may not be so trained. He or she could even have learnt by ear but some keyboardist do have the skill of reading music sheets as well as they may have invested time in music theory. You are more likely to see a pianist play at proper musical set up like an orchestra and so on and more likely to see a keyboardist running his skill at a concert with a band... My two kobo.

Yeah, they can take up your time o but the way I do it is sometimes one episode at a time. Mainly after a whole days work and I use it to relax. Sometimes I finish one season in a month or two!
