Music/Radio / Re: Audio Signings: A Look At King Perryy, Terri And Singah by overboard(m): 12:14am On Jan 31, 2020
Spot on that it is a staple behaviour for artistes signed by artiste-driven labels and it is largely due to the fact that the executives are:

1. Not truly committed to the future of the acts they sign as they feel their own careers are more important and can not risk an overshadow. The sign-ons may just be a facade to show that the label isn't a one-act affair too.

2. At times also, these "signed" acts just pay to be affiliated with the labels to give them on their professional debut in the industry some kind of credibility. This doesn't seem to be the case with the aforementioned labels though but ish happens.

The costs of breaking an artiste in the Nigeria of today isn't a joke. Only an artiste-label executive with a clear vision for artiste development will take the plunge without batting an eyelid. Even with a tonne of cash, the depletion rate is scary and not many have the patience or will power to see it through.

That aside, the case for pure myopic belief that they - the established acts - have a perpetual shelf life often drives them to not envision any other future but themselves at the top forgetting that relevance (and income) may be sustained by diversifying with the industry. A man with an enviable catalogue is Olamide, and I say enviable as I believe (or hope) the contracts he extends to his diverse acts - the ones with better lasting material especially - will give him a good piece of the pie for a good while. That is if he did the needful like having a fine arrangement for right ownership and administration. I hope.

Another person is Daddy Ifeanyi, Davido.

From an observers vantage, he seems to be fair in pushing his acts, perhaps because of access to some cool cash but again, the will to do as required comes to play too.

Dismal outings include eLDee but with the reboot of Trybe Records though. Sarz had "Beat of Life", K9 had the opportunity of a life time with "Kokoma" and these two heavy songs fell short due to, in my opinion, greater focus of the exec's music at that material time.

9ice didn't leave up to his name on the label side of things but he was biting more than his fragile frame could handle. Perhaps streamlined focus on one or two may have augured better.

2Baba hasn't fared too well either. Square Records was PSquare with a May D stint and not to be envied. Ditto for the favourite twins separate "labels" at the moment...

Even lesser known acts but with money follow this pattern as their careers are more important than any other person's. The Don Corleon of DCCR dude had an ace in his kitty with Alabai but after "Ogbanje", nothing else and the guy has resumed his overbearing presence even with an alleged signed act...

Too many artiste-run, one-man shows label-wise out there but this is purely to have a name as they are essentially independent acts that just need a business name when releasing music...

Let's see what Naira, Zlatan et al. bring to the table.
Business / Re: I Released My House Document To My Cousin To Obtain Loan, How Can I Get It Back? by overboard(m): 4:47pm On Jan 23, 2020
wwwkaycom:
I gave my house documents to my cousin to take a bank loan of 3 million naira but I like to retrieve my documents back because of the way he and his wife have been doing things since October, 2019.

He is involved in sales of agrochemicals. He discussed with me on how profitable the business is but that he didn't really have money to put into it.

The wife lost her job in the bank and had to join him in the business. Being a close cousin and friend of mine, I gave out my house documents to him as collateral and the bank actually came to do some inspection in my house and I signed some documents.

The big issue now is that my cousin have not paid a dime back since August last year when he got the loan and between then and now he has done 3 parties that I'm sure gulped lots of money. The wedding of his younger sister in October, wedding of his brother in law in December and 40th birthday of his wife in January. These were serious lavish parties which I think could be done modestly.

I asked him on Monday about the loan and he said his moratorium will expire in February and there's no cause for alarm. This is different from what he told me before I released my documents, he said he will have gone far in repayment even before the expiration of moratorium. I reminded him about this but he said there is no problem about his ability to pay back since the business is lucrative.

I also discovered that one of our uncles actually borrowed him 2 million naira in 2017 which he hasn't paid back till now, he hasn't paid a dime back, I didn't do due diligence before releasing my documents to him.

Uncle told me yesterday that he would have discouraged me from giving out my documents if I had informed him before the loan was granted. Uncle also told me that he disagreed with him about his clubbing and partying lifestyles as a struggling businessman but that instead of appreciating his concern, he and his wife fought him and boasted his 2 million naira will be paid back before mid 2018 but till today he hasn't paid a dime. Hope I haven't shot myself in the leg with this help which I think I rendered to a friend and family?

The worst part of it is that my wife was not fully in support of my intention to help him then.

Where do I start from good people?

He promised to start paying by January ending, if he fail to do this, is it possible to break that bond and retrieve my documents from the bank? Can I tell him and the bank that I'm no longer interested in guaranteeing the loan? I'm afraid, kindly help.

Please house forgive for quoting that lengthy post before commenting but it’s for emphasis.

Now to my comment...

Firstly, he, he, heeei!!!

What I’m going through now for this same format is not a joke.

I am actually paying a loan back as it was taken for a friend since he wasn’t credit worthy... he promised heaven and earth about paying back promptly on a monthly basis since like mid last year, nothing! I’m so stupid as the loan is now officially mine.

He currently has at least 4 other loan defaults and I’m guarantor to 2. My name was dropped with a third finance company without my consent and I’ve been brokering repayment plan.

December, he promised to offload a property he has that would go for no less than N20m. Ok good, at least he can settle all these loans and I can breathe...

Wifey who wasn’t down with it from day 1 - and we fell out seriously over this issue - said it’s a scam. And truly it was o.

Oya na, Buyer dey ground and will pay half first... Bobo change mouth say “it defeats the purpose”. The whole idea was just to make one negotiate a less stringent repayment plan with the lenders promising by mid January after sale of property, it will all be settled.

I’m afraid you’re on your own.

Do you see any parallels?

mercyefe200:
29-year-old Emeka Ngwu has been arrested by the Delta State Police Command following a credible intelligence it received.

Three locally made pistols and 13 9mm ammunition were recovered from the suspected armed robber who was arrested at Asaba motor park.

Confirming the arrest of the suspect, the state's police spokeseperson DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya said Ngwu will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.

The statement reads in part “The Operatives worked on the information that the suspect who hails from Ezeagu Street in Enugu was boarding a Lagos bound commercial vehicle at Asaba motor park.”

"Operatives swung into action and arrested the suspect. An immediate search was conducted on the suspect and his belongings and the three locally made pistols and the thirteen (9mm) ammunition concealed in a bag were found on him."

Pojomojo:
What happened in Lagos yesterday is an indication of what’s to come, it has nothing to do with Xenophobia or South Africans but a glimpse of what the middle class should expect from poor Nigerians who are waiting for a reason & an excuse to strike.

These people have constantly strolled into the malls year over year, too poor to shop & no hopes of a better tomorrow, sees other people with chubby looking kids rolling shop carts & loading groceries into their cars. They want these things too.

Engage poor Nigerians ones. You will see that undertone of “In this tough country, these people are living large and buying cars, they are thieves”. The middle class is the closest to Nigeria’s lower class. They will be the first target. This thing is here already. Just recently, I noticed my estate introduced armed mobile police personal to join the current one. The need to have this things is a signal that we have a failed society already. These people will not be able to save us. You’d be surprised they’d join in.

We are sitting on a nuke. Poor Nigerians are angry and they are not that angry at their government. They are angry at you because:
1. You drive a nice car
2. You travel for summer
3. You shop at Shoprite
4. Your kids, chubby.
5. You live in a fine house.

In this economy, how? If you lived through the riots of the mid 90s, you’d understand this is not new. The middle class is always at the receiving end. The people believe Nigerian can never be better, so they want those shiny things you have. At least that would give them some satisfactions.

If Nigeria ever gets a Revolution (which I pray we don’t get). It’s going to be the poor versus the seemingly rich. You don’t have to be rich to be a target. You just have to enjoy what others don’t enjoy. Scary times ahead.

God bless you people. Enjoy your morning(hopefully)

Adewunmi Ogunsanya owns Multichoice Nigeria and the assets belong to him and his associates.
Tayo Amusan owns Palms shopping mall. Shoprite is just a tenant.
A lot of SA companies here are franchises owned by Nigerians.

You’re only hurting Nigerians. Stop the violence.

Ultimate statement my brother

semyman:
The Invictus Obi's saga is disheartening not because another Nigeria yet again has been busted for fraud, it's disheartening because the rippling effect will be enormous.
A lot of Nigerians are going to pay for yet another scandal by a single Nigerian.

Thing is Obinwanne was not just another average Nigerian, he had a CV and portfolio that was envied on even by the international community.

He was looked upon as one of the bright spots to come out of this dark hellish place called Nigeria.

Obinwanne Okeke (Invictus) was one of the supposed few answers to the damning question of can anything good come out of Nigeria?

Featured by Forbes as one of the Forbes 30 under 30.
He's been on BBC, given a Ted Talk, Spoke at London school of Economics Africa Summit.
Has a conglomerate spanning across many African countries dealing on oil, agriculture, infrastructure, solar energy etc.
Had a lot of International awards celebrating his achievements

With this sort of portfolio and at 32yrs, he was seen as this bright spark coming out from a country that has more trends for despicable things than amiable ones.

Only to find out that beneath all this facade was a fraudster. A serial one.

An international corporate yahoo boy with suits and a great CV to match.
Estimated to have stolen $20-$22million from US companies from 2011 till date.

There was always that gaping hole in his story about his start up capital that gave an itch of not adding up.
But then we gave benefit of the doubt as we usually do even to our own collective detriment in a bid not to come across as a hater.

He fooled a lot of people and that for a long time. Make no mistake about it, he's going to pay for his crimes. But he isn't my concern.

You can't help but feel for other innocent Nigerians that are going to pay for the crimes of Obinwanne too.

Obinwanne would be in his prison scrub for a long time serving his time.

While other Nigerian out there will be getting Visa denied even after meeting and surpassing all the requirements.

Other Nigerians would have to work twice as hard to earn a modicum of trust and respect within the international community.

International organizations are going to pull out of deals the moment they become aware a Nigerian is part of the deal.

International airports will be a lot more hostile than they already are the moment they see you with that almost worthless green passport.

More companies will start declining cards coming from this part of the world.

Nobody wins here, not you, not me.

Imagine one of the few people who had earned the trust and admiration of the international community being busted for fraud.
What is your fate being an average John Doe or Jane Doe?

While Obinwanne is going to pay for his crimes inside the walls of a correctional facility.

You are going to pay for his crimes in embassy halls, airports, business meetings, immigration offices etc.

It will be no fault of yours, you would probably have all the requirements but still would be treated as an infidel.

When one of your supposed brightest minds has been busted as a fraud.

What are your chances?

Nobody won here.

We all lost.

Thanks for the emails thus far, irrespective of the needless interruption by an interloper...

Please show before and after editions (as did a recent good submission) for easier identification of the work done...

One is particularly on the lookout for great attention to lighting detail and of course, seamless placement of a subject into a new image context and so on.

Your ability to at least demo your work's potential final results on a shoot set is also important please.
