Hi Guys,

I have an NOI from Alberta under the accelerated tech pathway and need to submit an application to the province. However, while filling out the forms I came across some areas I am not too sure of how to approach them. I hope to gain some insight from your experiences here with PNP applications.

i. How does one provide a reference letter for express entry if self-employed or running your own business? Also, is it mandatory to have a work history if you are not the primary applicant and going through the PNP route?

ii. As the principal applicant, do I need to indicate my current employment in the work history(as I would need to provide a reference letter)? Doing this would mean I need to ask the employer for a reference letter and that would indicate I intend to leave them for another province (currently work as a skilled worker in a different province from Alberta).

iii. My reference letters were obtained a few years ago long before I traveled to Ca for school. Do these need to be very recent? Does anyone know if they contact the employers? (It's possible the HR folks listed in the reference letters might have even left these companies).

Get an attestation of birth certificate from National Population Commission

Many thanks and appreciated. Is there a process for getting this? I am not in Naija at the moment so is this something someone can help me obtain and scan across?

Hi people,

Please I need some advise. What documents can one use in place of the birth certificate for PR application? My birth certificate has been lost for decades. For things that require birth certificate in Nigeria, I used a sworn declaration of age obtained from a court when I was much younger. Would that also suffice for PR application?

Omo this ban is something else. Was waiting to give landing gist but I don’t know if it will work any more.

Left nigeria on BA last night, got to heathrow and heard the news. I don’t know if Canada border control will let us through, due to land Toronto by 2pm their time.

All the best at the POE. You never know what might happen. Let’s know how things go with you. It is well.

Please is the portal different from the one typically used for other applications?

Congratulations Bro. Wishing your family safe trips to Ca in the shortest time.

Akannitommy:
FINAL PPR ALERT, it has ended in massive praises! Alhamdulilah!!

We received PPR for the remaining members of my family earlier today and also got a travel restriction exemption authorization approval for my 2 year old son. After we waited for two weeks after the first set of PPR for my daughters, we decided to send their passports on Monday to Abuja. We did to avoid the pitfall of missing 30-days deadline for submitting passports. The passports were delivered on Wednesday due to Tuesday holiday. Counterfoil for the girls were updated on the portal Friday and DHL picked up stamped passport same day - tracking shows it is en-route to Lagos. We woke up to receive PPR for my wife and son this morning, as well as a travel authorization for ONLY our son - since he applied for visitor and we also applied for the travel restriction exemption twice. The letter of introduction for the girls dropped too.

We are juggling many things right now and the logistics are crazy. I pray that everyone waiting for their PPR gets it soonest. I understand what you all are going through because I was in the same boat for over 5 months and I not unaware that several more have been waiting longer. Hang in there, be hopeful. Your time will come very soon. It has finally ended in praises. Many thanks to everyone who rendered assistance in one way or another on this platform in this journey. You are all too many to list but you know thy selves and the Almighty God know you even more. Your rewards will be in multi-folds and bountiful. Also, I am grateful for the emotional support everyone provided all through the process.

Again, it has ended in praises!! Alhamdulilah!!

See updated timeline below:

15th May - Application submission with upfront medicals for 3 out of 4 (All 3 had April 2021 passport expiry dates)
19th May - Medicals for Spouse and two kids (student permits) updated to passed
25th May - Wife completed bio-metric while kids didn't due to minor ages
3 months - Nothing; not even ghost update. Focused on passport renewal process and NIN reconciliation wahala.
18th August - Sent Nairobi inquiry email and got normal auto-response immediately
19th August - Nairobi replied my inquiry saying the usual stuff - under active review & unable to say when to finalize
19th August - Applied for GCMS notes for all
26th August - Applied for written travel authorization exemption (WTRE) for all
4th September - Emailed MP office covering my residential area
5th September - Emailed MP office covering my school area
8th September - Senior Advisor (staff) to MP covering my house replied - " I should reach out in 2 weeks if I haven’t received anything......."
9th September - Eligibility review commenced -- no ghost update - just random login and saw it
10th September - Received medical request for 2 year old son (who didn't do upfront medical since it was visitor visa for him).
10th September - 3 emails responses per travel authorization application - one shows son's WTRE is authorized & others tagged "courtesy"
17th September - Completed son's medical exam and uploaded result via webform and emails to Nairobi - no reply.
26th September - Son's medical updated to passed
6th October - Received PPR for daughters' study permit applications.
18th October - Sent daughters' passports to Abuja using DHL return service

18th October - Same day after I had sent 2 passports, the MP's office replied my umpteenth inquiry saying that "regarding the progress of requests, they are all linked and processed together. Verification of eligibility and medical results was accepted. The next step concerns the final decision which must be rendered (we do not have the date). Regarding your second question, I spoke with an IRCC agent who told me that you could send the 4 passports together by putting an explanatory letter explaining that it is easier financially and logistically to do like this and there shouldn't be any problem, but don't hang around in sending passports."

18th October - I replied MP's office that I had sent 2 passports and that I wouldn't want to risk sending all four because am not sure someone won't mix things up just because there was not PPR for 2 of the passports. In my experience, most people who work in customer service etc behave like robots lacking latitude to apply discretion in sensitive or unfamiliar situation. I didn't want anyone to use me as experiment.

22nd October - Daughters' profile showed counterfoil have been issued - visa stamped - expiry date is 4 months earlier than my own expiry date. No problem because that is valid for 2 years essentially.

23rd October - PPR for my wife and son dropped along with travel restriction exemption approval for my son & the girl's letter of intro.

The grace and joy shall go round by the special grace of God Almighty.

Thank you so much for responding. You have just given me hope.

Let me get something right. You applied for both SOWP and visiting visa. Visiting visa has been approved and the SOWP is still pending?

@lightswitch007 please help clarify. Some of us need to know if TRV/visit visa should be explored rather than SOWP for now.

Hi all,

Good job you are doing here. From what I can deduce, it seems the SOWP applications are taking a while to process. Is it advisable to apply for visitor visas for my wife and 2 kids (I am an international student currently in Ca) and do another application for SOWP when they are in Ca?

My study permit expires mid-next year but I intend to extend(as I got a new passport now) along with my family's permit/visa as IRCC would not grant permits/visas beyond the primary applicant's documents expiry.
Travel / Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by owee: 11:30pm On Oct 07, 2021
I need some insight from experienced folks in the house. Currently in Ca for study and would like to apply for my wife and kids to join me. My Visa would expire mid-next year before the program ends but I am told it can be extended while in Ca. I recently got my new passport(the old one would expire same date as the visa). Can I apply for extension of the study& co-op work permit now or it has to be close to the expiry date?

Also, my wife is expecting and would that be an issue if I apply for open work permit for her and visit/study permit for the kids?

Please does this mean a pregnant lady cannot undergo medicals if she is the applicant in the open work permit application?

sam4777:
when creating a new application questions will be asked that lead to spousal open work permit, your friends wife will be the lead applicant and whilst applying the daughters application will be under hers, as a result in the form you will write information about who your friends wife is applying under a spousal open work permit from which will be the student that has already achieved his temporary permit (study).

yes she will go for a medical and since they are taking urine I am pretty sure they will Kaku she is pregnant so its only reasonable for him to highlight that she is early in her pregnancy and it was conceived during his wait for his study visa to come out so it is in fact a new development. he can use that as the purpose of wanting to be with his family as he would want to be able to oversee this stage and not leave his wife in such a vulnerable state. (I would advise upfront medical while the belle is still not too far ahead by the way)

Hello everyone,

I’ve had a bad experience with Dante labs. Night test kits last week and got them delivered early this week. Did the tests on Thursday and sent results via Royal Mail priority box same day(before 9am). My results came in yesterday but my wife’s after we missed our flight today(as she was yet to get her results). Those guys are terrible and avoid them when planning test to fly.

Does anyone have a reliable and cost effective test provider for fit to fly(out of the UK back to Naija) and for which results can be obtained same day.

Oh great. Was there any follow up from the government for you to take the test(I assume the payment was for the day 7 tests)?

I was about for a few days last month and was only asked;
-Health declaration and screening summary (also called permit to travel)which i got from https://nitp.ncdc.gov.ng/onboarding/how-it-works
-A negative covid test no more than three days (the website said 94 but didn’t want to risk it.)
before the date of travel.
-Temperature check taken at the airport.

Thanks for your response. Highly appreciated. Did you pay for the post arrival Covid test via the ncdc website and print the confirmation with bar code? Kindly advise.
