Mannn, what was even that last episode of The Boys?? 😩...It was such a bore...took the main plot nowhere. Twas rather an unnecessary meandering filler episode in a finale season mind you, they have like 4 episodes to go and this is were we still are? smh 😞

did you believe MJ raped those kids
Objectively....No. He did admit that "sleeping" on the same bed with kids was a "beautiful thing" and somewhat therapeutic for him due to childhood trauma. Now whilst i find that behaviour very weird, but it isn't illegal.

He faced so many lawsuits on the issue and nothing damning was found. Perhaps, his greatest mistake, which he later admitted to, was settling the very first child abuse case wayback in 1993, which in legal circles can be construed as admission of guilt, but he did that, seeing the toll, the case was taking on his career.

and no Child abuser goes on an interview to say "Hey, I am a Child Abuser!". People around him often speak about how difficult it was for MJ to properly express and articulate himself...so the interview below poured gasoline on the whole issue, but i still stand on him been misunderstood and was not a pedo

I wouldn't trust all these critics. Let the real fans watch and be the judge
Apparently, the critics beef is that the movie didn't address the pedo allegations, meanwhile this movie didn't even cover the period the said allegations sprang up. The same critics were telling me not to see the "Whitney Houston Biopic", i ignored, and it was worthwhile so imagine me not wanting to see the biopic of the actual "King of Pop", like one of the greatest entertainer, this planet has ever known, just because of what these critics are saying...not a single chance 👍🏿

What do you think about this film Oyaskii ?? it's been up since March. Kinda forgot dropping it here back then.

What prospects do you see for the entire industry, distribution model and this seemingly strategy by HBOMAX to garner the Nigerians in diaspora attention, or it's just a one off, after seeing how Prime Video exited the market as well as Netflix's slowdown.

Lol, now that I remember, I worked briefly with this particular girl in the picture on My Father's Shadow. Was totally clueless about her back then and thought she was a "waka pass" but she seems to be making a name for her self in the industry since then. Beautiful lady.... grin grin
Uzoamaka Power 🤗... she is my favourite Nigerian actress at the moment. When you watch her, you can clearly see she is a cut above the others we have currently.

To this movie maaan, I have tracked it's progress ever since it's limited release 2 years ago. It premiered at prominent film festivals, and i have waited for it to come to VOD and it's has taken 2 years, and on HBOmax that isn't even available here, that sums up my feelings about international distribution market, breaking into our market.

Netflix tried to go bullish here, supported some local production, but they have quietly scaled back, seeing that they can't make their investments back, Amazon Prime's plans didn't even leave the drafts, as they have all soon realized that, a country where 90% is literally fighting, every morning, where their next meal will come from, entertainment is simply not top of their agenda...DSTV have been caught in these web too, but least i digress.

My point is, what these international distribution arms like HBOmax are doing now is to simply pick up Nollywood production that are worthy of note, and market it to international audience who can afford to see it..they don't really care about "Tunde, an agbero, living in Okokomaiko, whose last ate balanced diet, months ago"😩.

The painful part of the whole thing, is that Nigeria is blessed with so much history, art and literature that the whole world wants to hear in adaptations, but we simply can't tell these stories, because of the obvious systemic rot, that i keep saying here. So we have given these people, the power to tell our stories and shape it as they see fit. A typical example is the production of "Children of Blood and Bone", a movie about the Yoruba lore, and saw they cast Idris Elba as "Lekàn" and i just burst out laughing and isn't there rumours that Idris Elba is also in the running as "Okonkwo" in a "Things fall Apart" remake??...My Father's Shadow, that tells the story of boys struggling in Lagos, and me here hasn't had a sniff of it, yet people who can't properly connect to the story, are having a field day with it.... and Afrobeat, our very own music export to the world, so much so, Grammy Awards was inspired to create a special category for it, and the first ever winner, isn't even an Afrobeat artiste 😩..

So in entirety, my point is, any international distribution market poaching our media, is not necessarily doing it with Nigerians in mind and so the "YouTube release pipeline" is still the best distribution deal for Nigerians living in "current Nigeria"...Make MTN and co dey pack our small coins dey go every month 😩

Was craving for Nollywood content over a week ago, and the noise and rave I was hearing about was Behind The Scenes. Downloaded it, yet to watch but I had the hunger for more serious fare and went on a deep search for some of the best Nollywood content released in the last few years and saw a few like The Herd, Gwoza etc. Yet to watch tho.

Hopefully would take time to.
I actually saw "Behind the Scene" at the cinema in late December, well i actually wanted to see "Avatar: Fire and Ice (2025), (well which would have still been a bad choice in hindsight), but my madam vetoed my decision, and we saw this instead, and it was the usual, insanely high production value wasted on a almost zero substance story, so i had written off the movie, only for it to drop on VOD 2 weeks ago, and i was seeing high praises from the general populace for this obvious slop, and i just concluded that these people can't be saved. It is part of the reasons, why this short can never get milage here...na slop dey move market here 😩

Pertaining to this movie, suicide is a serious topic over here. And it's good Nollywood are thinking about this kind of stories recently without all the sensationalism but the problem still remains. Top shelf films like these hardly gets widespread acclaim and publicity asides the slops we've come to expect. Which is sad to see.

Cos I've seen similar comments on social media and came across something like this few months ago with a commentator saying films like My Father's Shadow was what should be getting the limelight not the likes of Everybody Loves Jenifa or Return of Arinzo. 🙄🙄

Or maybe we should start rethinking our distribution model. Cos the really good ones somehow shrinks in anonymity.
Bruh...the "direct to YouTube release" has work wonders for Nollywood Indie Filmmakers, i tell you and they are utilising it well like mad, although they are still dragging that space with "Asaba Nollywood" 😩, but still, thier voices are heard, and the revenue goes directly to them. So YouTube is a good distribution arm. No need trying to drag cinema screen time with slops like "Return of Arinzo", they cannot compete with the way the people here and market are set up.

On the subject of distribution still, I won't even want an international distribution alliance for Nollywood, it literally takes the "movie" out of our hands. "My Father Shadows", for example, is supposedly "Nollywood", but the distribution for me living here is abysmal, i literally need a "Mubi" sub and a strong paid VPN to see it, meanwhile i have folks who have seen it multiple times outside...the life of a cinephile in a third world hell hole maann 😞😞

I too, crave De*th (2025).

"I'm thinking of ending things… once the thought arrives, it stays, it sticks, it lingers, it dominates." — Unnamed Jake’s girlfriend, I'm Thinking of Ending Things by Iain Reid.

There is a close-knit group of Nollywood indie filmmakers I follow, and they recommended this short to me. It’s profoundly one of the best 28 minutes I have spent in 2026.

The subject matter is heavy af 😞. A mother and her daughter go to visit a family friend whose son has topped himself. Said mother and daughter spiral into a long, brutal conversation about the fragility of young people’s mental health, the naivety with which older people handle depression, and the taboo surrounding suicide in these parts.

It is shot almost entirely in Igbo, but nothing is lost in translation. It’s basically one scene, yet you could feel the palpable dread the subject matter suggests as it progresses. Even the title scared me a bit, ngl!.

There is no gainsaying it, mental health issues in these parts aren’t much of a priority. It’s worse still for young people these days, stuck between immense pressure to succeed, a government determined to make sure they don’t, and an older generation that treats mental health issues with great levity because they were taught in their time to simply “tough it out” simply because they are "Nigerians".

One thing the short also highlights, which I liked, is that you could have a roof over your head, clothes to wear, and a warm bed to sleep in, and still be depressed and want to check out 😞.

On the subject of topping oneself, it is often associated with cowardice and selfishness here. But I dare say the conviction it even takes to get to that point is extraordinary. Biologically speaking, when one attempts it, the body fights to stay alive, certain hormones are secreted that ensure it doesn’t happen easily. So after all these, I dare say, as taboo as it is to fathom, this isn’t cowardice.

For those struggling with their mental health, I sincerely hope they find the help they need and the courage to soldier on.

This short is exactly why I still insist on this industry. I mean, a Nollywood flick was in my best watch of last year. They are quite capable of springing beauties like this occasionally.

Chaff like "Behind the Scenes" (2025) might grab all the glitz and headlines with sappy stories and zero depth, cajoling you into thinking this is the best the industry has to offer. But no!, this short is a stark reminder that the industry is capable of nuanced stories that tackle very important subject matter head-on with little resources.

Oh, Nollywood… they can try, but they could never make me hate you.

Top-shelf short, but a difficult subject matter and not an easy recommend.

9/10.

Moura's performance in the secret agent was top notch. He was actually my choice to take home the Oscar even though I know he wasn't gonna win before twinky Tim. Timothy's performance is actually his best till date but I hate Marty "not so supreme" with a burning passion, also "the narcissistic white man who takes everyone down with them" trope is over done in Hollywood at this point
It is far far harder to make people laugh, than to make them cry, Hear me out...

The Oscars have notoriously favoured dramatic performances over comedic ones in the past, and so this have over time, played a huge hand, in whom they gave the best leading actor/actress award to.

I had seen both movies prior to the awards, and i can objectively say this.

Timothee Chálàmet attacked the "Marty Supreme" script, with so much venom, like it was actually made for him, like you could tell, no other actor of this generation is pulling it. The performance was the right kind of cocky, energetic and full of chrisma but "Marty Supreme" (2025) was already boxed in the "comedy genre" plus, at the bare risk of sounding like a conspiracy theorist, I'd like to believe that, recency agenda also played against TC but i stand by my words, there wasn't a better male leading actor than him, in the year under review.

Wagner Moura's performance was typical of him, subtle and layered in emotional depth that you really needed to lean into to get, but the most important factor was that, it was a dramatic performance with lot's of emotional souvenirs that usually sways the Oscars voting panel.

Well, as it turned out, neither won it, and probably the worst person you know, took it from behind. Tbf to MBJ, i didn't see Sinners 2025 and go yay, that is an oscar winning performance!. The smaller awards prior to the Oscar, are usually a telltale sign, to how the actual Oscar awards would go, and 2 names always featured prominently, which were TC and Wagner, then only for 2 weeks to the award, MBJ's name started gathering dust, again around the same time, a certain someone was enmeshed in a scandal, and award night came and MBJ, won it, how pretty convenient! 😑

Timothee Chamalet definitely deserved that Oscar nomination. The movie is very engaging and it is interesting to watch Timothee's character grow and evolve from arrogance to humility. In my opinion, I think this is his most powerful performance so far in his career.

Thragg destroyed their plot amour it couldnt save them in this episode the only reason they are alive is because Thragg let them live if he didn't show them mercy the entire series would have ended with this episode
Exactly my point. The "Plot Armour" here means, he let them live for the show to basically continue.

The ultimate goal, has been for the Viltrumites to go to other plant and try to breed, and Nolan and Mark seemed to have achieved that purpose, so it would make no sense to kill them, yet

Or After Nolan and Mark destroyed his home planet, is only fair, he keeps them alive to destroy earth.

I watched his scene over and over. I knew men would rave about it.

The first subtle move he made to dodge Nolan before sending him crashing into viltrum. The rocket punch sending him back into orbit.

I was sure Oliver would collect he doesn't hear word. He turned to flee and slapped into body parts

Invincible flew off in fright. Still got caught

I wondered why conquest bowed when thragg warned him subtly. I was like conquest you off all people.

Then they showed us why?

In one episode he became the ultimate man's man.

All hail grand regent thragg
Bruhhhh...Conquest said "Yes" and Thragg said "No", and he just went it, it's then i knew he was the real deal cuz wtf.

There was one time, that Mark turned to Nolan and said can we even beat this guy? and Nolan gave the saddest face of defeat ever 😩😩.

And Oliver has only just been a liability in this war so far, was he really trying to go solo with probably the strongest Viltrumite ever?? like this kid can't even take on a full grown Viltrumite on his own, let alone "The Grand Regent". should have just stayed back on earth..stupid stupid kid 😑.

Some insane plot armour going on, because Thragg could have easily ended everything in that episode.

is there a genuine point to this movie? Besides, "The Hobbit" has there been any spinoff of this franchise that has really hit?..To the cast, more than half are past their prime...Like Elijah Wood for example, this guy has been in like 4 or 5 movies in the last 7 years or so, and most of those roles are cameos...like are we actually been serious here😩??. This film is banking on insane nostalgia bait to see it through to tbf.

There are so many "fresh" materials to adapt movies from and still make money, "Project Hail Mary" (2026) is a testament to that fact, but Hollywood Execs are ready to "rehash" 100 year old IPs forever, under the false guise, that they are a guaranteed money maker.... insanity to say the least because all i see here, is a classic 2/10 flick tbh 👍🏿

I wonder how paramount messed this up so badly. Why can’t they just go ahead and release it now? Or do they have any movie they are actively promoting?
They are still investigating if it was a hack or a mess up on their end plus releasing it now will be counter productive for them, as so many phases that they might have already put money into will go up in flames, e.g marketing, and people will loose their jobs, but most importantly, if indeed it was a hack, and they go ahead to release it prematurely, it doesn't bode well for their brand as it will be giving in to the hackers.

This scenario played out with HBO in 2015, on the premiere of the first episode of GOT S5, hackers got hold of the first 4 episodes and leaked it, PiratesBay broke that day! because of the sheer number of people trying to grab it. HBO remained calm, admitted to the hack, but didn't admit it was from them, but from advanced copies sent to reviewers, went on the biggest DMCA takedown the industry as ever known, and released the episodes as scheduled and trusted that, their most loyal fans will ride with them.... Paramount might explore the same route.

"The Boys S5 (2019)" Ep 1 & 2.

"F**cking Diabolical".

Finale seasons are becoming tricky these past years, as show runners often seem to struggle on how to end a good show but this first 2 episodes were such a good start and i can't wait to see how it all ends..i would like to touch on 2 points from these episodes.

First, A superhero show or media is only as good as it's villain. A chrismatic villain sets a proper tone for all that is to follow and Boy! It's "Homelander" a proper proper villain, you see him, and you see "Evil", he reeks of it, hey, i am just a watcher, yet i am genuinely terrified of him 😩. It also bears testament to how well Antony Starr has played the character so far, genuinely don't think he tops this performance ever, which might be a good or a bad thing.. Homelander is genuinely on the path to being one of the best villains in CBM adaptations ever...just fantastic to watch.

The second point, is that, it is now so obvious what real life scenario the show is trying to mimic. We are literally living in a "black mirror coded alternate timeline" and these shows are mirroring real life 100%. The Orange man was casually saying he was gonna "end a civilization" yesterday, literally teasing world war 3 like it's el classico and crying "fake news" in the evening.

I can't wait to see how they put "Homelander" down...

‎Amaze! Amaze!! Amaze!!!
‎
‎I have always been fascinated with interplanetary, interstellar, and basically all things related to space travel. I try to consume as much literature and media around the subject as possible, so you could pardon my overload of recency bias in recent weeks, seeing that I finally picked up "Project Hail Mary" by Andy Weir, just in time for the movie adaptation. And as if that was not enough, the Artemis II mission set out in a bold attempt to return man to the Moon for the first time in over five decades. I liked how someone penned it on X ....“It's been like a really, really long holiday for people who like space travel.”
‎
‎I finished the 480-page "Project Hail Mary" today, which I started about two weeks ago, the fastest I’ve gone through a book in years, especially since my “book-reading form” dipped. The best way I can describe it, as any book lover would understand the feeling, is this, "when you read a really, really good book, it suddenly jolts you with renewed vigour to read every book ever written"!. That is exactly how I felt. And the digital copy of the movie is rumoured to be out at the end of this month, so I can’t wait to finally put motion to the vivid imagination the book has given me.
‎
‎Now to the Artemis II mission, a twin to the Apollo missions, with the same goal of sending man back toward the only natural satellite of our planet, aptly named if you know your Greek mythology. Since launch last Thursday, I have watched meticulously how NASA has documented every step of it all with such flair, delicacy, and excellence that those of us from this part of the world could only dream of...like it has sparked a wave of interest in space travel, among neutrals. I look at it, and I marvel. I instantly know these aren’t the doings of a people grappling with basic problems like lack of electricity or bad roads. This is the work of a people who have conquered those things already. So it becomes man plus machine on a simple quest to go where no one else has ventured… it’s a truly fantastic concept!
‎

‎And then there is this "hellhole"!! 😩. You see feats like this, and you just know there is no way we are attaining achievements like this here. I don’t bother with the news from here these days because it’s all too predictable and hopeless...bandits, kidnappings, corruption, and the crazy thought by our politicians that a bag of rice solves every problem!. I'm the occasional sinner, but I sometimes wonder what sin I might have committed to find myself here. And at the risk of sounding like a broken record, I can’t state enough how genuinely I hate it here… I’m literally seething with unbridled hate for this god-awful spit of wasteland. 😞
