abduleez1:lol he is a proper waffler. When i heard that $1.6bn gross goof calculation, i basically stopped taking him seriously, like my Egbon, with years of experience in this industry can't even hack how streaming data and revenue works? 😭. Definitely why only unserious network like Netflix, are the only ones looking his way these days, those ones have unlimited funds to burn on mediocrity. His decline is so glaring as it is painful, but i am not one to settle for mediocrity, so good luck to his faithful sheeples. I will be there for his next detour outside this Rebel Moon madness, but i definitely don't rate him or expect anything good from him 👍🏿. 1 Like |

Illusioneffect:He didn't write "Watchmen" and I think that movie turned out ok. If he had shifted the writing duties of Rebel Moon to a proper screen writer, and just focused on the directing, the movie might have had a slight chance of been worthwhile. But the reverse was the case, he couldn't sell the characters, and he actually wanted us to believe that the Imperium with all the technological advancement of warfare, space ship and what not, can't hack grain farming, and might actually starve if they don't descend on a tiny village with piss poor farmers for their grains? He must be seriously joking. He was making comments, like 100m people has seen "Rebel Moon" meaning, if the movie had a theatrical release, then it would have grossed $1.6bn at the box office!. It was there i knew he had totally lost it and was probably far gone on opium. 1 Like 1 Share

Chibudollar:lol wasn't it obvious? Muraji was the spy and Lord Toranaga is/was the greatest plotter/schemer in the entire show. Always once step ahead and acting like nothing was happening whilst he was outfoxing everybody. Him saying he didn't really need the Anjin for any military advantage, and that he just needed him for laughs and a distraction for his enemies made me gag, a master tactician...Pep Guardiola dey learn work where this man dey 😩😩 3 Likes |

Shôgun (2024) Why tell a dead man, the future? I don't think i have come across an "FX" series that i didn't like and with Shôgun, they have raised their standard even higher!. Stunning cinematography, Amazing set and costume design, rich story telling and compelling characters, all rolled into one, makes for a very good show imo, and this totally excelled in all that. I think, there is a total shift of sheer number of people genuinely interested on feudal Japan and the intricacies of Samurai politics, based off, on seeing this masterpiece alone. It was like a poetry, everything meticulous and intentionally done , no words, no action was taken just for the sake of it. I can see why people where mislead to think, this was gonna end on a "bang", after all, all the build-up will suggest so, but alas, with was just a play on the juxtaposing culture clash of East and West, honour and ambition played out with wit rather than brute. If one is paying attention, the show effectively ended at Episode 9, aptly named "Crimson Sky", that's when the true battle took place!, and so keeping with theme of a true poetry which I think the show is, Episode 10 is like a bonus, an envoi, the last stanza of a poetry, that ties everything together and gives a deeper and fulfilling meaning to the entire thing, let me cite some examples Yabushige writes his will continuously through out the show, but at the last episode hands Omi a note and says "This is my final Will". There was an episode where, Mariko, Blackthorne and Fuji seats, the first time a connection is made between all 3, this scene is repeated in Episode 10, but this time, is just Blackthorne and Fuji-sama and the semblance of heartbreak 💔. And my personal favorite, in the very first episode, after learning about Blackthorne's ship, Omi asks Yabushige if he was gonna tell Lord Toranaga about it, to which he replies, "Why tell a dead man about the future"? , and on episode ten dying embers, Yabushige asks Lord Toranaga, what was the point of the entire ruse, and what actually, is his plans before he commits seppuku, at least he believes Lord Toranaga owes him that much, to which Lord Toranaga bluntly tells him..Why tell a dead man the future? before he chopped off his head. That's why I feel the show runners stick a perfect landing with episode 10, and it's probably the best finale I have seen, since "Succession". Mann, This show will pick Emmys for fun during the award season, and rightly so, FX has this, Fargo, and "The Bear", in their coffers, makes me wonder if these guys ever miss?. A true masterpiece and might be a stretch, but it's probably gonna be my show of the year pending when HOD and "The Bear S3" both debut that is. 9/10. 9 Likes 1 Share

Baddestguyp:Again, "The battle" wasn't the point of the show, and as you rightly said, that's why the last episode before this was named "Crimson Sky", that was the point of the entire show!. Now i can see why people who haven't read the books might have been mislead, thinking " Crimson Sky" was gonna be one big battle, when infact in the book, James Clavell didn't even go too much in details about the battle and just concluded in an Epilogue with few words, like an afterthought, that Toranaga won the battle, captured Ishido, and sent his disgraced body for public display in Osaka. this was a very brilliant adaptation of the book imo, because i knew exactly what i was expecting, i might add.

Kaycee7:Friends is one of the very good ones!, it's like 3rd on my list currently My current top 3 goes....Scrubs > Seinfeld> Friends. Have Modern Family and TBBT lined up right after my current watch, can't believe i haven't seen these 2, especially TBBT, considering how popular it was at one time. "HIMYM" went way down the perking order for me, with that Barney and Robin stunt they pulled towards the end, they totally lost me with that. I heard they rebooted it, but that failed to launch. 1 Like |

Kaycee7:Exactly! Sitcoms are more milder to see, hence a much higher replay value than any other genre. Serialised TV these days have become lazy somewhat all together, with thier 10 episodes gimmick, so Sitcoms have become a "dying breed" due to this, cuz i don't really see how a proper sitcom would work inside of 10 measley episodes. Back then, a proper sitcom season would have like a 26 episode season, where you are guaranteed a Christmas episode, a valentine episode, an Halloween episode and sometimes a "big reveal or ceremony" two episodes special!. Mann those where the days. lol yeah, the spoilers for sitcoms hit quite hard, currently seeing "The Office" now, i was randomly going through YouTube one night, and bam!, YouTube algorithm suggested vid of the faith of 2 particular characters in the final season, whilst i was still in S6, never looked at them the same way again 😩 1 Like |

TV/Movies / Re: What Series Are You Watching Now? Part 2 by oyaskii(m): 4:51pm On Apr 22 |
Baddestguyp:Sitcoms are rarely about "plot", as each episode has it's own "plot", and as such you can watch any episode at random after your first run plus most sitcom are about 21 minutes top. The plot most times aren't "head scratchers, so with all these, i believe sitcoms are one of the easiest medias to consume. 5 Likes |

The Office US S6 - S8 (2010 - 2012). More warm hugs on a cloudy day this! I am totally still enjoying this, albeit it's a bit slowed down , and i think that is expected in sitcoms, as it gradually winds down to the end, the writers begin to have less wiggle room to work and so, some episodes might didn't hit but was still a totally great watch. They threw me a massive curve ball at the end of S7 tho 😩. I am sadly down to just one more season before i complete the show, so i think am gonna let that last season stew for a while because i am not ready to see the end of this show 😩😅. Hall of Fame level Sitcom this 👌🏿 8/10. 1 Like 1 Share

Kaycee7: Maaan. i remember giving you stick on your Part 1 review, thinking Part 2 will be better but brahh "The Scar giver" wasn't giving at all. Worse still, some of his misguided loyalist are gassing him up, saying this flick is good, so he is just gonna keep making more of it, i am hearing. I still respect him, as a filmmaker but i can't ignore the obvious decline. When he is ready to tell a different story from this, I might be interested. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scar giver (2024). This is definitely for the last remaining members of the ZS fanclub I didn't see the point of having this standalone sequel, this just dragged out the story unnecessarily and everything could in this could have been easily cramped into 30 minutes and added to the first part to make just one movie. That been said, this is probably one of the hardest movies for me to review, cuz it isn't unnecessarily bad like the general consensus says but there is little redeeming qualities tbh. They didn't develop properly on the story or give any hoff about character development that warrant having these 2 movies. I actually defended part 1 cuz i thought part 2 will be considerably better, but is just about the same stuff, and i totally lost it when, the antagonist and protagonist were fighting with a light saber cheap knock off 😩, it stripped any form of any little authenticity that the movie had laid claim to prior. There is a good intergalactic space war franchise etched somewhere in there but it is all wrapped in a slow mo fest + amateurish prod. it ended on bait for another sequel but except your last name is Snyder, i don't really see anyone been interested in it further than this. and i like my man ZS, but maybe it's probably time i admit to myself that he has hit his plateau and he is probably washed now 😔. With Netflix making a pact last week , that they are not gonna be funding movies with "No substance" going forward, I'm afraid ZS is never getting any serious money to back future projects. 5/10 2 Likes 2 Shares

For Maria Èbún Pàtàkí (2020). "When i no sleep, my mother no go sleep....she nor dey tire eh....oh really?" There are times when Nollywood surprises me with thier strong storytelling which seems to always strengthen my convictions that this Industry can make gems like this, that touch on important topics without the usual trope of the "raz", crass, unnecessary loudness and prop, we have been used to in recent times. Damilola Orimogunje's For Maria Èbún Pàtàkí, touch on a "forbidden" topic and dared where no other film maker in recent times in this clime has dared to venture. For a runtime of a little over an hour, it tells a story of "Derin", who after a traumatic birth experience, falls into postpartum depression and feels disconnected from the child, and basically everyone around her, failing to even realize what was going on and how to even help because the normal "Nigeria condition" doesn't allow for trivia stance like been "depressed" and any form of mental health check is taken with levity here, and so, our dear Aderinsola is easily just tagged as a "Bad mother". The whole thing was done in basically one location with about 5 cast, but with this meagre resources they were able to tell a very important story with alot of takeaways. Gabriel Afolayan shines here, as he always do, but Meg Otanwa's Aderinsola portrayal of a new mother with zero emotional attachment, was the real deal.her mannerism and utterances were all too real, a clear sign of a supreme performance. The set location and cinematography was blended in a gloomy and dark way, which horned home the narrative and made it easily relatable, they also threw in some macabre score to serenade the whole thing. They were sound editing and mixing issues but i will forgive those. i can't promise this is a happy story, far from it, it is as gloomy and dark as they come, but it is a good watch, and i wish more Nigerian filmmakers are this bold to tell, these type of stories. 8/10. 3 Likes 2 Shares

Chibudollar:Honour una lol. All this man has done is to strategically play both sides, to save his head, It is not like Lord Toranaga has his best interests at heart. So Yabushige should willing lose his head along with Lord Lord Toranaga, for a beef, Lord Toranaga alone, has against the other Reagent Lords?? Me think not o. lol again, this man has shown from the beginning, he is as sly as a fox, so it's baffling, you lot are expressing shock over his lastest antics 😅. Like Captain Jack Sparrow said...Me? I'm dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. It's the honest ones you want to watch out for, because you can never predict when they're going to do something incredibly... stupid. IngeniousLeez: Let's face it. Proper cinema culture wasn't really a thing here, people on here see it as some sort social status climber than actual love for movies, which leads me to ask, are there reliable sources for B.O. numbers from Nigeria? As you rightly said, the insane rate at which premium content drop on VOD platforms makes it even worse for people to go to cinema. But I feel it's economics that's the biggest pain point. If one really wanted to see something in theatres and the cost is favourable or negligible, no matter, they'll see it in theatres. NGL tho, early VOD release has eased one's pocket and the pressure of watching it in cinemas.True. I can't really explain it, except you have a dedicated cinema/media room in your house, nothing beats seeing a true blockbuster on the biggest screen and Hi-Fi sound possible which is the cinema. You'd be absolutely lying if you think you can recreate such ambience with your core i3, 13 inches laptop on top your mattress 😩. But then again, when one is being plagued by the economy of the poverty capital of world, best believe, people are definitely going to be waiting the short period for VOD to drop than spending insane amount for movie tickets Funny trend I noticed is that normal standard theatres in North America or Europe are not even the ones benefiting from the high performing movies this year. It's IMAX Cinemas reaping the results with about 40% and above gross coming from it for films such as DUNE 2, GxK and co. The hardcore franchise watchers are opting for the premium experience while average cinema goers are showing more apathy. That's a huge problem for cinema chains like AMC, Cinemark and the likes. so basically, if your movie is not IMAX shot, there is a very high chance of it hitting apathy with casual movie goers, bearing in mind, shooting in IMAX shoots budget of flicks up, and so, many flicks will fall short, because prod companies are only willing to shoot in IMAX for only true blockbusters Anyway bro, like i have always stated, movies hit a plateau around peak COVID era, and the industry has been experiencing a diminishing return as actual good movies are a rare find these days. To put things in perspectives, Dune 2 might be the only really recent flick i have coped in a long while, all the others have been flicks i missed out on, from yester years. So as it is now, i am not even arsed about seeing any flick at the Cinema, anytime soon, so i am a big fan of these flicks dropping like flies on VOD almost immediately after cinematic release 👏🏿 |

IngeniousLeez:What i can deduce from your write up is that, WB has probably seen that DUNE: Part 2 has hit set targets and it's probably the highest grossing flick this year even, so they will rather slow thier roll on it by releasing the home media early, so that GxK can have a soft landing at the B.O. But generally speaking the ease at which home media drops after theatrical release is baffling, Kung Fu Panda 4 is doing decent numbers at the B.O and yet within 2 weeks, the Home Media is already available...like...back in the day, when VOD wasn't really a thing, a true blockbuster blu ray release was an upwards of between 3 to 5 months after the cinematic run and so the wait was killing, that's why most people just opt for Camrip or TS because they couldn't just wait. In hindsight, bro, i ain't even complaining cuz ngl, it's a Big W for my pocket 😩 but cinema culture, especially, in improvished places, like our clime will die down. On release day for DUNE part 2, standard ticket was going for like 7k!. My friend went to see it, last 2 weeks at prime time, and could you believe, he was the only one in the Cinema room, that could seat 1.5k people at a least. Back in the day, blockbusters were like 1.5k flat to see, at that time sef, i could use my UNI ID card to see films for 500h, even at then, people were reluctant to even come out, except maybe on weekends or public holidays, compared to now, when the economy is even in worst shape than then. Almost nobody is paying that high to see films now, when they know there is a high chance the VOD/PVOD/Home Media drops within weeks. Folks will just be refreshing PSArips, Pahe and the likes, playing the waiting game with keen interest and just keep sailing away ☠️ 2 Likes |

abduleez1:DUNE part 2 had movie going apathy too? That was supposed to be, arguably the biggest blockbuster out this year, and Zaslav had that shii out on the streets, barely a month into it's cinema run, in full HD 😭. The bitter fact is, generally, distribution companies might no longer rate cinema and all it's allure. Football and other pieces of media have already sold thier souls to VOD platforms, and maybe movies are slowly following suit. I haven't studied the numbers, but it seems distributing via VOD platforms, have a better harmonised financial return these days. |

The absolute dire state of cinema culture mann 😫. The wait time for blockbusters to hit VOD shelves is like one month!. At this despicable rate, no movie is clocking 1bn greens anytime soon, even gulping 500 mil, would be an absolute miracle fgs.

Ashawoman82:lmaoo. It literally has 2 episodes more to go and that's it, no further season. Now if someone is saying the show is not "intriguing" so far, then they are probably viewing it from a different "lens" because the entire political and power meanuvre that is one of the main Pillars of GOT, is basically what Shōgun has been serving us deliciously for the past 8 episodes, so people expecting some sort of "big bang" to make the show "intriguing" for them are probably seeing the wrong show. Comparing this to GOT, side by side even, is even a mismatch imo, because GOT had a large volume of source material to chew from, hence ample time for proper world building and character development. It brings to mind my recent reading of recent comments of people saying "DUNE: Part 2" is boring because they expected some sort of intergalactic space and desert war unending for 2hours plus!, meanwhile, it was the best adaptation of a book Hollywood has seen for a while and probably my fave film this year, thus far. Case in point. Shōgun is almost 100% similar to one of the fundamentals that made GOT, great, which is the power tussle and political rogbodiyan. The remaining aspects of GOT outside this are the Fantasy aspect of which Shōgun is not a fantasy piece. So the comparism of Shôgun to GOT is not far fetched and is very valid!. 8 Likes 2 Shares |

Chibudollar:lol apparently, utmost loyalty and honour is a very big part of the Japanese culture, albeit, the Seppuku bit, is a bit rare in modern times, but still happens in rural areas that still follow the old way, from what i read awhile back. Commiting Seppuku aside, bringing shame and dishonour to one's person, place of work or family, is kind of an everlasting social stigma in Japan and that's why the average Japanese is so so disciplined to a fault, but they are becoming more liberal tho. 6 Likes 1 Share |
