I think the younger generation of Igbos , especially those involved in social media Politics need to understand that 1) You don't need to keep the Yorubas down for the Igbos to rise politically...The sky is wide enough for all the birds to fly. 2) The fate of the Igbos is not necessarily tied to Yorubas. An Igbo adage says 'Let the Hawk perch, let the Eagle perch' searchlight: yea you are right and that's why yorubas will never go far as far as they are hellbent on frustrating Igbo presidency after taking a shot at the presidency from 1999 to 2007. |

Where did you get that idea of Monolithic North from? The North is more diverse than the South. 1) In the First Republic, The NPC, NEPU, BYM,1 United Middle Belt Congress etc were based in the North. 2) In the Second Republic, the Southern Minorities (Rivers and C/Rivers) were the saving grace for Shagari that gave him the needed votes to beat Awo. In 1979 elections, a) Shagari won in 7Ststed viz: Sokoto, Niger, Kwara, Benue, Rivers and C/River States. b) Awo won in 5Ststed viz Bendel, Lagos,Ogun,Oyo and Ondo with appreciable votes in Kwara &C/River States. c) Zik won in 3, States viz Anambra, Imo and Plataeu. d) Aminu Kano won 2 States viz Kano &Kaduna e) Waziri Ibrahim won in 2 States viz Borno & Gongola States. 2) In the aborted 3rd Republic with ONLY two registered Political parties, In the North, SDP= 9 States NRC= 10 States 3) In the fourth Republic, ANPP, CPC and PDP had their bases in the North. RTSC: The north is usually politically monotonous, while the south is not.
Yoruba are politically on their own in the south. So I am being realistic. |

Yoruba is an ethnic group. The North is a Geographical region consisting of 19 States with over 150 ethnic groups. A Southerner is also not an ethnic Identity. Compare likes with likes. RTSC: If the yorubas vote their own and the North vote their own, how will you defeat the North?
If the election is very credible, the margin of defeat would be unprecedented.
It took the North defeating a southerner for tinubu to gain relevance.
That trick is still in play and can be replicated. |

I honestly wish that to happen because I believe it will deepen our culture of democracy. However, Tambuwal or Kwankwanso may not become president in 2023, not because they are qualified or not qualified but because of our level of development. 1) There are numerous candidates from Kanuri, Nupe, Tiv, Berom, Igala, Edo, Isoko, Yoruba, Ijaw, KareKare, Bolawa, Bariba who also want to be president. When you ask them to queque behind Kwankwanso in 2023 after 8years of Muhammadu Buhari , you are asking them to forgo their ambitions. . .it won't be qiute easy as you think. 2) A Tambuwal or Kwankwanso in 2023 (not that they aren't qualified )will look like an attempt to re-inforce the myth that you need to be a Hausa-Fulani to be president. The greatest opposition to this idea will be FROM THE NORTH. This will cause the resentment of many Non Hausa-Fulani just like what happened in 2011 which may once again lead to the demystification of that myth. hammerFC: THANKS FOR THAT, WE ARE ALREADY LOOKING AT TAMBUWAL OR KWANKWASO.

Party Democracy have not been with Nigeria for long. Every Geo-political zone in Nigeria can produce a candidate that can win a Presidential election. I don't lose sleep over this at all. Ziggylady: There is nothing like 'South' with the garrulous under-achievers who are dreaming of 2023 Presidency in it
These same folks played their serpentary neither-here-nor--there wayo game to the displeasure of Northerners who almost single-handedly rigged and voted for Buhari to win in 2019...Some Northerners noted the 'betrayal' and pledged to pay these people back in 2023..
Alas these same empty-heads have gone into an over-drive of delusions that the North 'are not power hungry and would leave their fellow Northerners and vote them"..
Their latest comedy of errors is using the 1993 template to argue on how they will coast to victory in 2023 regardless of every indication from the North contrary to that..

Party democracy has been with Nigerians for long. As we progress in the journey of democracy, so many things we never thought were possible will happen and our Democratic institutions will be stronger. mrbock: I was just about saying this.
Saraki is young he will bounce back, we have seen the likes of chimaroke Nnamani, orji uzokalu, bala Mohammed etc
Who people thought were technically finished in Politics make a comeback. Power is transient
Plus we are Not yet serious as a country as much as Dynasties exist worldwide. The were not bigger than the institution ie the Party.
If the Bushes, Kennedy's, Clinton's, Rockefellers
As big as they were ever go against party ideology. They were finished
The only ideology the Saraki's and Tinubu have in common is looting
What's the Difference between PDP and APC
unless we demand strong institutions we are just wasting our time |

In 1983, the late Dr Olusola Saraki fell out with the leadership of the NPN (the ruling party at the federal level) and the incumbent Gov Adamu Attah of Kwara State. He quickly endorsed the candidacy of Sen Cornelius Adebayo of the UPN who went ahead to defeat the incumbent Governor. DonroxyII: The article is topnotch ....
Saraki fought Federal might and that is one mistake his papa never make throughout his life ..... Papa Saraki always concede to federal power and he nurture no federal ambition, all he wanted was Kwara state ..... Abuja always allowed him once he delivered!!
Baba Saraki was also a grassroot politician n a grandmaster and a one minute decision man, he can change a chairman on the morning of election and nothing will happen...... He will just tell the people, Fellow Kwarans , We are now voting for so so so and not so so so anymore .... so be it !!
That was what Bukola met but youthful exuberance and power of money destroyed his 2019 ambitions......
Also, it could be a game towards mega game !!!
I don't believe Power of Bukola has waned, he might be lying low for a powerful resurrection, If PDP should zone President to the north which Bukola will actively support in 2023, He will dine again with northern hegemony and bounce back ..... Fully ...... So, The Federal Might might be coming back to Bukola in 2023 ....... !!!
That guy sabi ooo but he ain't Tinubu....
Tinubu is better for lagosians than Bukola for Kwarans .... ..... Tinubu wants greater Lagos and he atop the greatness .......... Bukola doesn't want greatness for Kwara because Great Kwara and exposed Kwara will never follow Bukola.
You can not fight federal might when you have nothing at home ....if free and Fair election should be casted in Kwara 1million times, Bukola will lose 1million times ..... If Tinubu should war Federal govt, he will calmly recoil back to Lagos (Tinubu has solid Structures in Lagos) as was done during Obj regime and launch a crusade from there across SW ......
But Bukola has no structures in Kwara and He doesn't have ambition of establishing one ..... He just wants to conserve power using his powerful friends (Likemind friends) and his own means !!
If only he really wish well for his people , It would have been better !!! |

What do you mean by healthy democracy and is Tinubu the cause of it's absence? 1) In India which is the biggest Democracy in the World, the Nehru-Ghandi family have ruled more than any power block since 1947 2) In the USA, the monied and powerful Rockefeller and Bush Dynasties tower above others. Nelson Rockefeller was 5 times the Governor of New York ,a Vice President and stood a good chance to become President if not for his sudden death. His Younger brother was also a Governor. George H. Bush was a member of the Congress, Vice President and President. His sons George and Jeb Bush were Governors of Texas and Florida respectively. George Bush Jnr also became President. Political Dynasties aren't the reasons for our level of development. KwoiZabo: Thak You for seeing some Truth in my Statements. I want Tinubu's so called Dynasty to end not because I hate him but theres nothing like a healthy democracy. If you go to Ajeromi-Ifelodun (Ajegunle), those areas are practically slums with bad roads and waste everywhere, tomorrow people will say Lagos State has high IGR and nothing to show for it. |

Lagos has always been the bastion of opposition Politics and Tinubu was in opposition from 1999-2015. Cletus77: So all this note just to give credit to Tinubu..
I won't be surprised if someone wrote this about Saraki in the past.

You failed to mention another important group of people that have inadvertently contributed to make Tinubu great- The Igbos! The Igbos, especially the younger ones talk about Tinubu more than any other politicians and love to accuse hi of doing so many things beyond his capacity, inadvertently making Tinubu more powerful than he is truly powerful. KwoiZabo: I don't blame Tinubu, I blame people like the writer (who are so many with us here in Lagos) for making Tinubu Powerful. Another thing that makes tinubu powerful is that many Yorubas think/know that if Tinubu's dynasty fails, it will open Lagos political space and allow "non-indigenes" to have a greater say in Lagos politics, so Tinubu is a rallying point. Talking about, IGR and development, Lagos has performed averagely. I can count 10 states that has performed better than Lagos since the return to democracy. Lagos is the dirtiest state, has the worst roads etc the only thing that works for lagos and makes its IGR high is (1) Its location, (2) its the defunct capital of the country - FG left massive infrastructure like Ports (Sea & Air), Bridges (3rd Mainland etc), Stadiums, National theatre, Housing Estates, Buildings (braod street) etc. No state can boast of all these. (3) Security - I must give this to the yorubas, they are Peaceful unlike the North and NigerDelta.

The first time I noticed this was when I went for NYSC in Yobe State. There was this Igbo lady in my flat called Sandra. She was very nice to me but I didn't reciprocate her gestures because she was too lousy and wild for my liking. She was so mean to another poorer 'Igbo' lady called Mercy that was close to hatred. So one evening after publicly disgracing Mercy, I went to Sandra to ask her why she treated her 'sister' so harshly after all, they are both igbos. To my greatest surprise this rude and lousy Sandra said 'She is not igbo, stop referring to Mercy as igbo' I said but she speaks Igbo fluently with Juliet and other igbos in their corpers lodge and both Mercy and Juliet have Igbo Surnames. Then Sandra said 'The fact that she speaks Igbo doesn't makes her Igbo'. She also speaks Yoruba fluently ,does that makes her Yoruba? She went ahead to tell me that only four Igbo corpers ,out of the numerous corpers in our lodge that we presumed to be igbo were truly Igbos. NobleAngell: I have never seen any of them admit that he/she is Igbo. My neighbour gets furious each time i tease him by calling him Igbo. Meanwhile his name is Ifeanyi and siblings Emeka, Onyinyechi and Onyeka. They communicate with Igbo in their house. Baffles me. |

Resilient cities can mean anything. How do you rank States and Country in terms of development? The most appropriate way is through Human Development Index (HDI). 1) Lagos, Ekiti and Ogun make it to the first 10 ranking States in terms of HDI.Only Abia makes the 10th position. 2) Even if we minus Lagos from the S/WEST the region is still ahead of the S/East. Ekiti and Ogun still have higher HDI than Abia, the first State from the S/East. ChristianNorth: Ibadan is developed than all the SE, yet when Rockfeller Foundation was selecting the top 100 most resilient cities in the world, Ibadan wasn't even considered while Enugu made the top 35 alongside Paris, London and Barcelona.
