Who would you consider as the best film directors especially in relation to use of effects ?

Spectranet LTE sent me a mail yesterday informing me of a revamp of their data plans. Firstly, they mentioned that they'll be scrapping data plans based on states and sticking to a unified plan for every location in Nigeria. That's not bad, but the shocker came when I checked their page for the new data plans effective from March 15, 2016. See image below.

The Lagos Knight plans don't exist anymore. The 7k plan for 20GB which works 24 hours a day also has been scrapped. Now the cheapest plan is 5k for 5GB and a plan similar to the Lagos Knight goes for N7500, gives you 20GB but runs from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. with no mention of 24 hours on weekends and public holidays.

While other internet service providers are offering more data for lesser amounts, Spectranet has chosen to increase costs and offer less data. Another fact that needs to be stated is that service is still pretty poor in a lot of locations (Ijegun is an example, where I only get one network bar). I'm not ready to pay more for a glorified 3G service and I know Nigerians are not ready to do the same.

So if you're against this, please share this post and let's hope we force them to rethink their actions.

My experience is that I applied in Ibadan Police Headquarters last week and was told I will need to pay N5000 for my tinted glass permit, unofficially of course. The reasons given by the man who told me were :
1. Nobody pays for the petrol in their generator
2. All the materials in the office are not funded by government and they need my "motivation"
3. The application will first travel to Abuja where it will be approved before being returned. The people at Abuja also need my "motivation
4. We are very badly paid here
etc etc
In short they extracted N5000 from me before proceeding with the "capture". Another woman who was in line with me promised to pay them when she comes back to collect.
Why doesn't the government just ask us to pay N5000 for the bloody thing and stop telling us lies about "war against corruption""

I am a structural engineer but as I have not seen the land and I have no idea what your building plans look like , I will advise you to contact a competent engineer near you.

But really if you have an elaborate and heavy roof you should consider having a framed building with pillars/beams construction. Similarly if you intend to add another floor in future do the same and have the foundation designed by a competent engineer. Otherwise , with a well built foundation and well manufactured "vibrated" blocks  a bungalow doesn't need pillars though the quality of cheap blocks these days and incidents of "flash flooding" even on dry land  would advise you to be safe than sorry.

There are many places of historical interest in Nigeria no doubt but how secured and well regulated are they for interested tourists, especially those who do not have private body-guards?
Earlier this year for instance I was in Lagos  and visited one of the beaches with a friend and we had to contend with the nuisance of all kinds of fees at road-blocks mounted by hemp-smoking touts who also double as beggars, so desperate they will stop at nothing to extract money from patrons they considered rich.

Meanwhile, here, I can just go to Brighton Beach, London Eye or any other place of interest, pay for any facility I want to use and just relax and enjoy myself without any fear of harassment- see the difference? We take too many things for granted in naija

Why do we travel to London to look at old buildings built by dead people who don't mean anything to us ? There are a lot of places which canenrich our knowledge about us and our own culture . Can you think of any in your town ? Share it here .

Could it be they also feel the need to put "some passengers" at ease, so they make it clear the passenger is in "enlightened hands" (and not their typical image of a taxi driver - whatever that may be)? That is another possibility.

Yep! It is a loser's tale. I have heard enough of it to last a lifetime from down at luck peeps living abroad. London and NY especially. It is often the prelude to a life of alcoholism.- or something worse

This thread has generated some interesting responses - for the better. I see your main points, but please also keep the following in mind:

1. Life and nation-building is not all about getting rich. Personal satisfaction is paramount. What can happen if progress is measured by how much money, by any means possible, is what we see in Nigeria today. We all know that teachers are among the least paid of all professions, yet are, perhaps, the most important to the future development of a nation. The main reason is that teachers' services are not measurable in terms of money, while taxi drivers', bankers', etc are almost immediately obvious and can be priced.

2. It is good to talk about how much taxi drivers make, but you also have to talk about their costs. For example, most of those driving taxis/buses in Nigeria do not own these vehicles and operate under very exhorbitant repayment plans. It has also been pointed out that this is a long-day and risky job, that leaves not much time for much else, unless you own your own vehicle. Start-up costs are high, and there is only so much room in the taxi-driving market.

3. You mentioned contributing to society below. Note that one of the reasons that a taxi driver gets to keep a lot of his money in Europe and America is by avoiding taxes. That is certainly not contributing to society. I am not calling taxi drivers dishonest, just pointing this out. The European and American societies in which it is possible to drive taxis or do other jobs and build a good life were built on law and citizenship.

4. Finally, it is one thing to take up taxi driving with a Masters or PhD degree due to a lack of jobs in your area of study, due to your specific circumstances, or because it is more profitable, but that is not the way it should be. Your skills should be used to build your nation up. It may be that some would contribute more through taxi driving, but if a nation is ever going to lift its people out of poverty this cannot be a general proposition.

The dignity of every legal work should be recognized, - taxi driving, doctor, teacher, banker. That is what is going to get Nigeria to the "promised" land.

Returning to the original topic of this thread, perhaps the question should have been this: Why do taxis drivers feel the need to brandish their credentials to passengers?

Oga no mind me o, I am only driving this s.hit for a hobby. Actually I have two PhDs, 3 masters, 2 houses each in VI, Knightsbridge, Manhattan and so on. Tell everybody when you return to Naija o. Believe me driving cab is fun,oga. Wallahi may god punish YOU if I dey lie.

I really don't see anything wrong in driving a cab as long as you know where you are going [don't mind my pun ] If you need some quick bread and you are young enough go for it, but don't make a career out of it. For me I think going to school at all would have been a complete waste if I still have to be doing that crap after 40. Like they say , a fool at 40. . .

It is either you are mad to believe these silly stories or you are being funny. You drive a taxi because you can't find any other kind of decent work to do. I know a Naija medical doctor driving a cab in Chicago. He has lived in a one bed apartment for donkey years and in constant fear that he would be kicked out for not being able to pay his bills. To my knowledge he has not sent one dollar to his children for more than 15 years . So where is the money ?
I know a Nigerian professor who ended up in US working in a grocery store. I know a Nigerian lawyer who became a butcher assistant in UK.
A lot of Nigerians go abroad chasing foolish dreams and then continue to stay there living foolish dreams.

It still beats me why you have come to a fruitcake forum like this to seek advise about a matter so dear to your life - from faceless posters many of whom are still probably in 200 level Uni.
In matters such as this you only have two alternatives : talk to God or talk to your lawyer.
