obailala: Funding, 25 years?... We cant fund the dualisation and resurfacing of an already existing road even after 25 years of trying, yet we want to go ahead and build a new 700km road from scratch on swampy terrain? 1 trillion was release for this project to kick off few days ago. When last did you even pass through the east west road you're complaining about gan sef? The east west road is more than 85% completed. |

Tealcrestmedia: This project is not clear. The east west road during the Jonathan's era is still valid in same corridor, so what will they do? Construct another or what? Iyam not getting it. Why not use this money to rehabilitate critical roads like PH Aba road, instead of a new 700km highway. Smh The coastal road will be constructed close to the atlantic ocean. |

Same as Yenagoa, Sapele, Aba, and all those cities that will have this expressway passing through them.
Hotel business will boom in those places as well. The road won't pass through any of the places you list up there. The road is going to be close to the atlantic ocean. It's so funny you mentioned aba. the road won't pass through the south east at all. From lagos to ogun, ogun to ondo, ondo to delta, delta to bayelsa, bayelsa to rivers, rivers to akwa ibom and from akwa ibom to cross river. |

Paraman: The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Mohammed Bello-Koko, has disclosed that Onne Port has witnessed increased vessel traffic.
Bello-Koko said this recently in Lagos during the inauguration of the newly acquired security boats by NPA.
He also said that the agency would continue to push towards growing the fortune of eastern ports.
Onne Port Complex situated on the Bonny River Estuary along Ogu Creek, is the first port in Nigeria to operate the Landlord Port Model devised to encourage private sector participation in the maritime industry.
Bello-Koko said, “Onne Port has recently witnessed increased vessel traffic; we cannot rest on our laurels. We will continue to push the advocacy and galvanise stakeholder opinion towards growing the fortunes of the Eastern Ports.”
Bello-Koko noted that the newly acquired security boats would increase vessel traffic to the eastern ports.
“I am especially delighted to say that these security patrol boats position us to achieve our set goal of driving increased vessel traffic to the eastern ports of Onne, Rivers, Warri, and Calabar Port Complexes, where four of the vessels commissioned have been allocated,” Bello-Koko said.

He stated the distinctive features and multiple functionalities of those marine crafts and the game-changing effect they bring to bear.
“Our security preparedness and capacity to respond to emergent threats are enormous. I have chosen to refrain from mentioning those superlatives here because of the security implications of doing so.
“Our profound appreciation also goes to our highly valued security partners; the Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, the DSS and the Lagos State Government, whose collaborations continue to enhance our ability to detect, deter and respond to security threats and incidents before they fester,” the NPA boss declared.
He remarked that the event was a testament to the agency’s commitment to continuous improvement in the journey towards transforming, “our strategic intent of becoming the maritime logistics hub for sustainable ports services in Africa from potential to actualities”. https://punchng.com/onne-port-vessel-traffic-improves-says-npa/?amp

Politics › Benue Begins Implementation Of Anti-open Grazing Law by Paraman(op): 2:24pm On Mar 07, 2024 |
Benue State Government has stated that it has begun the full implementation of the anti-open grazing law in the state. This was disclosed on Wednesday by the state deputy governor, Sam Ode while briefing journalists on the resolution of the State Security Council meeting. The deputy governor noted that the full implementation of the anti-open grazing law began with the expiration of the 14-day ultimatum given to armed herders and those grazing openly in the state to vacate. He said having reviewed the report of the seven-man committee constituted to draw modalities for the withdrawal of armed herdsmen engaging in open grazing and the armed herders from the state within 14 days, it had resolved that the implementation of the law begins as of Wednesday. He said, “As from now, anyone who engages in open grazing in the state will have the full weight of the law bear on him.” Also speaking, the chairman of the committee who is the force commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, Maj-Gen. Sunday Igbinomwanhia said that it was now time for a kinetic approach after the 14-day ultimatum. He explained that security operatives embarked on clearance operations during the non-kinetic approach The commander added that a lot of compliance was made when the ultimatum lasted. He said, “Now that the ultimatum has elapsed, security operatives will now begin implementation of the anti-open grazing law.” The anti-open grazing law was enacted by the immediate past administration of Samuel Ortom in 2017 and its full implementation was effected. But as soon as the present administration of Hyacinth Alia assumed office, there seemed to be a bit lull in the implementation of the law. This resulted in the influx of herdsmen into the state with its attendant clashes between herdsmen and farmers. Some unknown gunmen in August 2023 killed a ward commander of the Benue State Livestock Guard, Jarule Likita, in the Ukum Local Government Area of the state. The Livestock Guard was established by the state government to enforce the anti-open grazing law enacted by the immediate past governor, Samuel Ortom. The gunmen were reported to have invaded the Tine-Nune community in the LG around 8:30 p.m. and went straight to Likita’s house where they shot him in the chest. https://punchng.com/benue-begins-implementation-of-anti-open-grazing-law/?amp |

Politics › Tinubu Signs Executive Orders On Oil, Gas Reforms by Paraman(op): 7:42am On Mar 07, 2024 |
President Bola Tinubu has approved three new directives in the oil and gas sector to introduce fiscal incentives for related projects, reduce contracting costs and timelines, and promote cost efficiency in local content requirements.
This followed “extensive engagements, analyses, and benchmarking with other jurisdictions” a statement signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, read Wednesday.
The statement is titled ‘President Tinubu signs executive orders on oil and gas reforms.’
According to Ngelale, Tinubu approved the “Introduction of fiscal incentives for non-associated gas, midstream and deepwater developments.
“Streamlining of contracting process to compress the contracting cycle to six months.
“The application of the local content requirements without hindering investments or the cost competitiveness.”
Wednesday’s directive is in keeping with his efforts to remove obstacles to investments in Nigeria, harness the nation’s resources and diversify the economy for the benefit of Nigerians, said the Presidency.
It is also expected to improve the investment climate and position Nigeria as the preferred investment destination for the oil & gas sector in Africa, the statement further explained.
Ngelale noted that these incentives were developed in collaboration with the Federal Ministries of Justice, Finance, Petroleum, Budget and Economic Planning, Federal Inland Revenue Service, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board.
The details of these Policy Directives will be gazetted and communicated by the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation even as the Special Adviser to the President on Energy, Mrs Olu Verhijen, has been directed to “continue coordinating the aforementioned stakeholders to ensure the implementation of these directives within a stipulated timeframe.” https://punchng.com/just-in-tinubu-signs-executive-orders-on-oil-gas-reforms/?amp

DeLaRue: Large scale farming is easier in the North.
It is difficult to find large stretches of flat land in the SW. Our lands are punctuated by ancient gullies and valleys left behind by long-diasppeared streams and rivers. Then you have forests with large trees.
Big farm machinery don't work well in this sort of environment.
In the North you have flat lands that go on for several kilometres without obstruction. I think this kind of flat lands can only be found in oyo in the south west. It's easier and cheaper creating merchandise farming in the north. |
