Then after all that hard work, they tell you that your goods are contraband or illegal to import and they seize it. I don't know why a lot of you people love lying. How can you import food products through the right process, pay all the necessary bills and still get your goods confiscated... Do you think we're kids here? |

Meanwhile we need to get foods in the market within the next three months I'm in favour of the government importing on the short run. Tinubu should give Sanwo olu the go ahead to import rice paddy. |
Politics › People Rush Kano Trader Selling Cheap 50kg Rice After He Announced It Online by Paraman(op): 7:58pm On Feb 23, 2024 |
A Nigerian man is selling bags of parboiled rice at N58,000, and people are indicating interest in buying from him The man, Haidar Abdullahi Gaduwama, made a post on X, advertising his rice which he packed in 50kg bags for sale in Kano state Haidar told Legit.ng that he farmed and produced the rice himself, which was why his price was a bit different from others A businessman said he is selling his bags of rice for N58,000 each, and that he can deliver to any part of Nigeria. Haidar Abdullahi Gaduwama made a post on X, and there were so many people rushing to his account and indicating interest in buying from him. The man showed off the bags of rice he was selling for N58k. I sell this 50kg parboiled Nigerian made Rice, Long grain and stone free for 58k only. DM if interested, let’s do business." Legit.ng spoke with him, and he said he farmed some of the rice himself in Hadejia, Jigawa state. His words: "Firstly, we farm our Rice in Hadejia, Jigawa state. But we also buy paddy rice from local farmers across the state, then process and package it for sale. I guess my rice is cheap because I farm it, process it and package it myself without any other party involved. Its like a direct labour so it cuts many unnecessary costs." Haidar, who said he started a rice business in 2021, noted that he was cheaper because others were selling between N65,000 to N68,000. The Kano trader told Legit.ng: "We processed and polished it exactly like the foreign rice because it's stone and dust free and also long grain." Reactions as Kano trader sells rice online @Abdul_x2 asked: "How much for delivery to Ilorin." @Bin_Ussein asked: "How much to deliver per bag to Osun state?" @emmaculatee1 commented: "Please DM, I have someone who needs more than 150 bags of Nigerian rice." @shinadang asked: "Those who are selling for 78-80k where are they getting their rice? Is this inflation a self-induced one?" https://www.legit.ng/people/1580150-n58000-bag-people-rush-rice-seller-selling-n58k-50kg-bags/ |
Politics › Sanwo-Olu To Request FG To Permit Importation Of Rice Paddy For Imota Rice by Paraman(op): 7:31pm On Feb 23, 2024 |
The Governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has stated that he would request the federal government through the Ministry of Agriculture to allow importation of rice paddy for the Imota rice mill to process.
The Governor stated this during a media chat while lamenting the reason for the non-functioning of the Imota rice mill to tackle the skyrocketing food inflation in the state, especially rice.
According to the Governor,
“The challenge that we have is feedstock- that is paddies. We have two aggregators- AFEX and Lagos commodity exchange that we have committed to look for paddy for us”
“One of the things that has happened is that paddy is not easily growable in the Southern part of the country. We have farmland in Ogun, Osun and Oyo states but it cannot meet up with the size and capacity of the mill.
“One of the things that we realized is that up north, there are a few issues around paddy. So for our mill, we are going to be having a conversation with the Minister for Transport and with the federal government. If they can permit us to do a one-off import of paddy for about two vessels. That can take us about 8 to 9 months production of close to 2 million bags of 50kg”
“If we have that exemption, we can use that to encourage the rice farmers to go back to their farms” Furthermore, on the rice mill, the Governor stated that the state is expecting some paddies from the north through active collaboration with state Governors in that part of the country.
25% discount Sunday market The Governor as a measure of tackling the food inflation across the state promised to begin a 25% discount on Sunday markets across 48 locations in the state.
The Governor noted beneficiaries of the project will be those spending N25,000 and below on food items who would be given a rebate immediately after purchase.
He recalled that the initiative was first developed during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
What you should know The Imota rice mill is a 2.8 million 50kg bag capacity rice mill commissioned by President Buhari in January 2023 but has failed to produce to capacity owing to lack of paddies and other issues. The mill was built at an estimated cost of N20 billion. https://nairametrics.com/2024/02/22/gov-sanwo-olu-to-request-fg-to-permit-importation-of-rice-paddy-for-imota-rice-mill/

Travel › Air Peace Begins Flight Operations To London March 30 by Paraman(op): 7:00am On Feb 23, 2024 |
Air Peace has said it will begin direct flight operations to London on March 30, 2024, with the inaugural flight scheduled for 12:10 am.
The announcement was made during a prelaunch forum organised by the airline to engage travel agencies and partners involved in the upcoming London flight operations.
The Chief Operating Officer of the airline, Oluwatoyin Olajide, assured stakeholders that the London operations would be carried out daily with Boeing 777 aircraft and Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
Olajide said, “The service will be operated with our Boeing 777 aircraft and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, one of the most modern and efficient aircraft in the skies. We will be launching with special promo fares and attractive plans for agents.
“Operating daily, this service will also offer several other benefits that give Air Peace an edge over the competition. It’s a direct flight without stopovers and offers unbeatable fares. The specifics of these offers and other unique selling points will be presented as this engagement progresses.”
“We want you to know that Air Peace’s operational expansion and milestones are driven by our ambition to continually connect cities and ease the burden of air travel while fostering economic prosperity across nations.”
The Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, disclosed that all airline agents would receive a unified commission regardless of their size and status.
Onyema said, “What we want from you is to tell us how you want to make it happen. I have told them (the management) that we are going to have a unified commission. Everybody, whether small or large, will have the same commission. And please, when we are going wrong, feel free to advise us.”
The airline revealed that it had received an approval letter from the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Aviation as an airline that could fly to New York in the United States.
Commending the Air Peace chairman, National President of the Nigeria Association of Tour Operators, Ime Udo, appreciated the airline for its passion for making Nigeria first in all the company’s dealings.
Udo said, “I can see the passion you have for Nigeria, and it was that passion that drove you to do everything you have done for this country. We have embraced the airline as ours.”
The President of the National Association of Travel Agencies, Susan Akporiaye, assured the airline that her members throughout the country would support its new operations.
“This man is a hero in this country. Our members will support you. I want to thank you for this engagement. There was something he said to me that he forgot to mention. He said they were able to get to a terminal that was very close to the train.
“This means he is thinking about Nigerians. One of my very trusted team members had a discussion about these flight operations to London. NANTA has come up with a slogan for you, and I want to see how you can find a way to put that slogan in your London Fliers. We came up with air peace; our own.”
The PUNCH learned that the terminal for Air Peace flight operations to London is Southern Terminal, Gatwick Airport.
In November, Air Peace revealed it had obtained the Foreign Carrier Operator Permit and Third Country Operator Permit to operate flights to Europe and the United Kingdom. https://punchng.com/air-peace-begins-flight-operations-to-london-march-30/?amp

Politics › Tinubu Gives Perm Secs, Directors, Ultimatum On Workers’ Benefits by Paraman(op): 10:32pm On Feb 22, 2024 |
President Bola Tinubu has given marching orders to senior civil servants for the accelerated payment of welfare packages to workers nationwide. He warned that the bureaucracies undermining the expeditious payment of benefits would not be tolerated and directed that a monthly briefing by the Head of Service and submission of key performance indicator reports should be made to his office for review. This also includes quarterly interactive meetings between the president and the body of permanent secretaries. “Before the next meeting, I want to see progress in the civil service… Why are we slowing that down? It is not just shameful. It is unacceptable,” Tinubu said when he met the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, the Body of Permanent Secretaries, and some Directors-General of agencies at the State House, Abuja, on Thursday. Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, revealed details of Thursday’s meeting in a statement titled, ‘President Tinubu directs expeditious processing of welfare benefits, demands monthly KPI reports.’ The President said policies impacting the welfare of the people and the economy must be treated with urgency, diligence, and a strong sense of duty. He asked them to rededicate themselves to their duties and work towards improving the lives of Nigerians by acting with dispatch on matters that border on the welfare of citizens. The President also warned that the ineffectiveness and unnecessary bureaucracy that result in the delay of interventions in the economy and programmes targeting vulnerable citizens will not be tolerated. Consequently, he directed that a monthly briefing by the Head of Service and submission of key performance indicator reports be made to his office for review and that quarterly interactive meetings between the President and the Body of Permanent Secretaries now be scheduled. Furthermore, the President mandated the Head of Service and the Body of Permanent Secretaries to consistently measure progress in actualising the Renewed Hope Agenda of his administration. “I have been sending people to check the level of work that gets done. Service to the nation is extremely important. We are to change the narrative on Nigeria. “You and I can change the perception about Africa, not just Nigeria. We might not get it 100 per cent right, but if we are focused, I think we can totally change and reshape the trajectory of our country in the right direction,’’ he said. President Tinubu asked public servants to always think and work with a generational understanding of their role in shaping national history, knowing that they serve as the engine room of the government and that their actions will affect more than 200 million people in the country and abroad. He stated, “Let us make our children’s dreams come true. Why are we slowing that down? “It is not just shameful. It is unacceptable. We made a pledge to bring our people out of poverty. You should not increase their vulnerability. “Help Nigerians to get out of these problems, do not compound the tough situation with unacceptable delays.” A presidential source who was privy to the discussions at the meeting told our correspondent that the president was dissatisfied with the performance of the senior civil servants, who, he said, were slowing down his agenda. Citing the slow payment of the monthly wage award of N35,000 and the non-payment of the N500bn promised to businesses last October, Tinubu said he expects the service to do better. The source said, “What he said was that the service is slowing down his agenda. He was very angry that his programme is being frustrated. He said that he expected the civil service to respond positively to the yearnings of over 220 million people, and it has a duty to give them hope. “He was angry because, in October, the President made a lot of promises to Nigerians. One of them was that he was going to make some money available to businesses in terms of grants, aids and so on and provide about N500bn. “But since then till now, nothing has been done. The President was not happy that the N35,000 wage award to civil servants was not paid until he started calling them. He called all the way from Ethiopia, asking ‘what is going on with this money I promised the people?’ Although it is a six-month award, they have only paid till December 2023. They promised to pay the rest later this week. “The theme of what he said here is that he was just not happy with the service and he expects them to do better. He wants the service not to compound the poverty of the people.” Before President Tinubu’s address, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, briefed him on the performance of the service concerning previously established KPIs across multiple assessment streams. https://punchng.com/tinubu-gives-perm-secs-directors-ultimatum-on-workers-benefits/?utm_source=telegram&utm_medium=social |
