And the reason we don't export is because of how difficult it is to do business in this country. If successive administrations improved this country, we won't be where we are. Politics › Blinken Unveils Lekki’s ‘american Corner’ by Paraman(op): 4:11pm On Jan 24, 2024 |
The United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has commissioned the ‘American Corner’‘. American Corners’ serve as regional resource centres for information and programs highlighting American culture, history, current events, and government.
According to the U.S. Embassy, since 2000, the U.S. has launched 245 American Corners in approximately 60 countries.
The facility commissioned on Wednesday braced the United States of America President, Joe Biden’s policy to propel digital transformation and foster a digital ecosystem in Sub-Saharan Africa.
It further sought to elevate Nigeria’s youth innovation, entrepreneurship and creativity.
The US Secretary of State on Tuesday in a meeting with President Bola Tinubu said the US government is willing to support Nigeria in its social investment programmes to ease the hardship occasioned by the removal of petrol subsidy.
While expressing support for Nigeria’s economic reforms, he noted the short-term impact on vulnerable communities, saying the meeting explored ways to cushion the hardships.
He said, “We welcome the President’s bold reforms to unify the currency and end fuel subsidy. We also recognise that in the short term, these reforms created pain for vulnerable communities.
“I spoke about some ways that the United States can support Nigerians while the government carries out these essential reforms and works to protect those who may, again in the short term, be negatively affected.”
Blinken said the Biden administration is eager to continue its investing streak in Nigeria’s health sector, having invested over $8.5bn in the last five years towards HIV and tuberculosis prevention, care and treatment and in strengthening the system. https://www.google.com/amp/s/punchng.com/blinken-unveils-lekkis-american-corner/%3famp#cobssid=s

Politics › Inflation To Fall In 2024 — CBN Governor, Cardoso by Paraman(op): 2:46pm On Jan 24, 2024 |
The Central Bank of Nigeria’s governor expects headline inflation to fall to 21.4 per cent in 2024.
The apex bank’s governor disclosed this during his keynote speech at the launching of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group macroeconomic outlook report for 2024.
He said, “Inflationary pressures are expected to decline in 2024 due to the CBN’s inflation-targeting policy, which aims to rein in inflation to 21.4 per cent.”
According to him, the inflation targeting will help the government in its battle against inflation which hit 28.9 per cent in December. Lower rates will ultimately affect businesses, he alluded.
“The outlook for decreasing inflation in 2024 will have a profound impact on businesses, providing a more predictable cost environment and potentially leading to lower policy rates, stimulating investment, fueling growth, and creating job opportunities,” Cardoso said. https://punchng.com/inflation-to-fall-in-2024-cardoso/?amp

A new president, Northerner or not, fueled by the feeling of mistrust for southwesterners, will not only reverse the relocations but mandate all commercial banks to locate their headquarters in the FCT for ease of administration. Other chain of businesses in the financial and other sectors will naturally follow suit.

If you know the scale of oil theft in the ND, you would realize we are a long way from winning the war against oil bunkering. Dangote is presently operating at half capacity, so he kick-started with 6 million litres of crude oil, how many barrels of oil can one get 6 million litres of crude oil? |

VeeVeeMyLuv: Exchange rate was fairly stable during Goodluck Administration. Therefore the prices of most goods and services were stable. Inflation rate was single digit.
Now inflation rate is double digit almost 50% Prices of goods and services are rising on a daily basis because the naira is being devalued on a per second rate. In all these salaries have deliberately not been reviewed upward that's why the hardship is so excruciating.
Now it is so bad that if a worker in either the public or private sector does not embezzle organisation funds, that person cannot feed well. Things were also hard under Jonathan. Prices of goods and services were shooting up under him, especially after he increased the price of fuel, diesel and kerosene. How much is the minimum wage under Jonathan? |

DMerciful: How do you rate a situation? You compare before and after and see whether things improve or regressed.
Compared to the military that Obj took over from, the minimum Nigeria economy grew under Obj was about 7%. Oil was sold around $13 at some point yet there was improvement in many areas. Please list out the improvement that was witness under OBJ, because I didn't witness any improvement between 1999 and 2007 in Nigeria. Price of fuel was #19-#20 when OBJ became the president in 1999, by the time he was handing over, the price was #75. In 1999 when OBJ became the president, $1 was sold for N20, by the time he was leaving in 2007, $1 was sold for N125. Power supply was horrible Cost of living was shooting up Multinationals were folding up Federal roads all over the federation were in horrible conditions There were ethno/religious violence in some states in Nigeria. It was under him some states in the north introduce Sharia law. Please which development are you really talking about? |

DMerciful: Obj is the besr president Nigeria ever had. Jonathan performed well. The failures are Bubu and now Tinubu, the mandate thief, criminal drug baron and certificate forger OBJ performed badly just like Buhari and Jonathan. The federal roads all over Nigeria were bad. There was massive ethno/religious violence. I witness the shariah riot in Kaduna with my eyes. Cost of living was rising because petrol, diesel and kerosene price was shooting up. Naira was also falling against the dollar. Our refinery were working far below capacity The Nigerian military carried out massive extrajudicial killings in places like zaka biam and odi. There was no 24/7 power supply in Nigeria Armed robbers were unleashing hell on the roads and streets. The 2003 and 2007 elections are the most horrible in this 4th republic. You're likely a small boy when OBJ was ruling, so I won't blame you. |
