It's no longer news that Ghana bested Nigeria in the Ease of Doing Business study 2014. The World Bank has now released further info on how each of the 36 states fared and it's disappointing to realise all SE states did badly. Ogun, Ekiti, Rivers, Cross River and Niger states emerged as the top 5 easiest places to do business. It is noteworthy that in previous years, Ogun was ranked was very poorly but has now staged a comeback. Meanwhile, of the 9 states that made processes more exacting and rigorous, Abia managed to make the list from the SE. The rest of the SE states have remained in status quo...no innovations, just sitting out the time. Enugu state needs to do something urgently. Potential investors always begin with a quick internet search, and the internet suggests 5 states over the rest. Recently, Enugu state was adjudged to have the easiest property acquisition and registration protocol after Abuja, so I hope concerned authorities see that accolade as an incentive to do more. http://www.newspotng.com/ogun-4-states-excel-world-bank-business-reforms/ |
chinasaekpere: umuahia is a city to cool your stress and chilax.Chai. First picture is BCA road, around Latinos Bar. Second pic is Bank Road, just opposite FMC Umuahia. Correct? |
iamodenigbo1: federal commissioner of transport,Mr ivoke Agwu, deputy senator,Bar Ike Ekweremadu Agwu, etc,Ekweremadu lost out to Sullivan, due to personal ambition, next time is for Agwu zone,ShalomEverything you wrote is correct except for your reference to "Awgu zone" There is no such thing as Awgu zone, there has never been such a thing in Enugu politics. That's the hard truth. Enugu stands on a tripod: Nsukka, Nkanu and Udi (which includes Udi, Ezeagu, Awgu, Aninri and Oji River LGAs). Awgu should struggle to emerge as the dominant political bloc from within Udi zone. They can easily achieve this by forming alliances with Aninri and Oji River. That will easily tilt the scale in their favor. |
madmadu: abia state shoprite still dey unda constructionIf they maintain the current pace, Abia Mall will be ready in time for Christmas. |
So, I read some claims that Ndi Enugu derailed this thread. Does that also include spyder who dedicated precious time to this thread? If not, then I think apologies are in order. Chino, you've done Omambala proud once again. Now you're the most hated nairalander! Odiro mfe.
|
IGBOSON1: ^^^Maybe he meant to say 'plain' and 'uninspiring'!He used the words "substandard" "far below standard" and "not of good standard". As the dispassionate defender of Ndigbo he claims to be, I think he knows the difference between the adjectives he used and the adjectives you assume he meant to use. For all we know, he must have done an e-fatigue and fracture testing on the buildings before coming to that conclusion, so let's stand back and learn from him. Donmarius, dazzle me! |
Donmarrius: For goodness sake, who hates Ebonyi, which is Igboland?.Bros, you were the first to call these buildings substandard, so I might actually learn something from you. I'll repost some of the pictures. Take your time and point out what is substandard about each. Thanks in advance.

Ilovenigeria: What to you mean by Faun knowing chinos antecedents?Thank you! Let them keep making flimsy excuses for Chino and his antecedents. It is this passive response of " Everyone ignore Chino" that has made that agadinwoke into a tin-god of some sort. And the other dude is blaming Faun for making a negative criticism...lol. smh. Whereas Chino has been running amok like a charged demon, denigrating Enugu and Imo even without provocation. |
Thanks for the pics, Energito. Could you label the pictures. These roads will look even better if they were marked. The local contractors sometimes do a half-hearted job like the one-sided pavement. These guys need strict supervision to deliver quality. The government ought to inspect ongoing projects from time to time, no matter how small in scale the project is. |
To all those saying the works are mediocre, I urge you to go back and peruse the pictures again, especially Ochudo city. I've seen a YouTube tour of that place, and it isn't what I'd call mediocre. The worst you can say is that Energito needs to add more megapixels to his camera (I appreciate your efforts bro. I think perhaps you resized the photos and they lost quality. You can now post images up to 4MB in size), and the pillars in the first pic appear uneven. @jlow2: It's unfortunate you can just type away a comment like "Abakaliki is backwards in nature", and accuse them of having a poverty mentality. I am certain your own community isn't better off (in so far as it is a Nigerian community). No constant power. No potable water. Poor roads. Poor health facilities. And if your community was so "forwards in nature", you wouldn't be in Abakaliki. What exactly fuels your braggadocio, I'd like to know. |
manny4life: And we wonder where all our esteemed Igbo members have gone? If this is the case, I think it's time to cease and dissociate myself from this madness.. I expect more from grown men with families.. Yall should ride on the shame.Sadly, you and 'our esteemed Igbo members' think that the solution to life's every problem is to walk out the door. The present wahala festered because people thought it reasonable to "ignore Chino's madness". In the wake of his madness, we now have this wrecked thread. My interest is about analyzing the wreckage to find out better ways of dealing with the aggressor. It is both puzzling and ironic that your only lessons from this fiasco are "ignore Chino" and "leave NL for Chino". "I'm walking away from the troubles in my life" Vs "I'm cleaning out my closet" The line's not mine. ![]() |
OkijaAmaka: your taking your bath in the stream, a madman came and pick your cloths...i guess you will go after him naked because you want to justify Bernarnd Shaw.I'll actually answer your question, though it's rhetorical. Your options are: 1) Sweep it under the carpet: Pretend the mad man didn't take your clothes and go home naked. This has been done time and again with variable results. While it didn't slow down Chino's attacks on Imo, it appears to have worked in the Enugu thread. This might also be because Spyder's passion for the thread trumps Chino's efforts to derail it. 2) Engage in a battle to the death: This strategy has never failed. Go for the kill. No holds barred. Chino always runs away eventually. He has a lot of initial zeal but no stamina to sustain his zeal. Engage him unrelentingly and he'll fritter away like vapor. 3) He who fights and runs away who lives to fight another day. This is the strategy you're advocating. This strategy is Chino's comfort zone. He can intermittently re-energize and return, as he has currently done. You'll only achieve needless back and forth with this strategy. Finally, I'll run after the mad man, wielding the largest tree trunk I can find, brandishing it menacingly and ready to kill or be killed. I assure you the mad man will not only take to his heels, but will avoid me like a plague. Chino's "madness" has met Faun's "insanity". Ebule afugo ndi kpu aturu. Anam anwu-anwu has gone to the house of Anam anwunyu anya. Kpozie result! |
manny4life: I won't say fighting per say, Igbos are naturally competitive; the issue is we lack tolerance for friendly competitiveness. Also, please keep in mind that Nairaland isn't a reflection of our daily lives; it is not indicative of our real life social and cultural interaction. A lot of people may and do act like that, I mean I can't make excuses for them, but I believe that such people shouldn't be given a voice in real matters. The real question is, should a person always rub it in? Why would someone want to give into Chino's antecedent? If you partake in Chino's activity, you are no different from him.Unfortunately, your thinking is just wrong. In all honesty, do you think it's easier for 21 million Igbos to ignore the Chinos of this world, or for 21 million Igbos to confront the Chinos and engage them, and attempt to reorient them? The real bad precedent is letting Chino believe he can do anything and get away with it simply because people have learned to ignore him. In the words of George Bernard Shaw, an accomplished playwright and a Nobel laureate, "The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man." It is the advice of reasonable people like you that has made Chino "invincible" on this forum. |
So, the thread has been run into the ground, the almighty Chino has been ousted from his own thread, and is now on the run. ![]() Karma truly is the 'b'-word! Despite benefiting from Spyder's perennial good-heartedness (even though the short-sighted Defender of Omambala dared to ask him to leave the thread), and despite benefiting from my good wishes and the good wishes of ndi Enugu, and of several others, and despite okijaamaka's photographic albeit wasted efforts, the thread has now ended as inexplicably as it began, and in record time! ![]() Post-mortem findings: Unless you can single out Chino and Odenigbo Aroli, and either burn them at the stake or drive a chainsaw through their heart, don't even bother starting another Anambra thread; these two will be there with their idiocy on full display. Primary Cause of death: Autodestruction. (Perhaps I should say more. Robots like Chino have a self-destruct button. The smart Faun cleverly pressed this button, and the witches in Chino's head took it from there) Faun, Unemadu, well played. I would have loved to see the thread follow through to a natural end, an end that will convince Chino that he hasn't much to brag about in his dear Omambala, and ultimately humble him, and make him more tolerant of other Igbos from Enugu and Imo, and restrain him from talking smack of Ebonyi. But this end is even more dramatic and revealing as Chino, for all his gri-gri, is now on the run. This end is what is known among theater artists as the 'dénouement'. I still would have preferred the former end though. |
chinolization: Nwa abakaliki go and cure yourself first of guinea-worm that is ravaging your state..Your comment is regrettable, childish and uncalled for. In case it's an insult you learned from your village people, realize now that Guinea worm has been eradicated in Ebonyi. WHO | Down to zero: Nigeria stops guinea-worm disease in its tracks http://www.who.int/features/2014/nigeria-stops-guinea-worm/en/ |
ARROBA: Turkish Airlines to fly Enugu International airportThis is great news, but the emboldened is wrong. What he did say, and what makes the news all the more cheering, is that Fed Govt is working on a coal-fired plant, of the said capacity. I hope that plan actually sees the light of day, and not a mere political promise. Delivering 100% of registered voters in Enugu to GEJ is do-able (after all, both fighting elephants in the state are PDP members), but let him keep his promises. |
Nice move! Better add a political twist to the thread title in order to justify its remaining in this section; bitter elements are already crying to their mummy. Also, for those who want this thread to become Enugu thread overnight, be realistic. The least you can do is acknowledge the posters who have furnished is with pictures so far, and prod them to label the pictures, or entreat them to post pictures you wanna see without making it seem like they don't waste time and resources gathering these pics. I wish this thread well. But let the OP change the thread title to something that will embrace politics and development. |
Congratulations, I'm happy for you! |
spyder880: Roads to Ekweremadu areas.I often go back and forth on my choice for the senate: Ekweremadu or Chime. As Lawmaker and ECOWAS deputy speaker, Ekweremadu is very useful to Igbo interests. Chime has distinguished himself with his characteristic quality infrastructure. Whoever becomes senator among them has deserved it. However, I had hoped that Chime will give fresh life to agro-allied industries. I was particularly sad when I learned that our Heneke pineapples will be exported to Europe, rather than be processed here. I understand funding is another issue. May be Mark Chidi Obetta will give the agro industry a jump start, since the road infrastructure is largely in place. Don't ask me how I know he'll be governor. (7 years ago I saw the shadow of Chimaroke behind Chime and he won; today I see the shadow of Chime behind Obetta.) |
^ Kcinho May be you're right. I'm giving Ayogu an easy pass based on my smooth sail from Nsukka through Imilike Agu and Imilike Uno, Eha Alumona to Obollo Afor. I believe that road continues to Makurdi. It was a SURE-P project. Ayogu hasn't been exceptional like Ekweremadu, but he has bested Nnaji. |
spyder880: Frank Nweke will be the outsider here, Ifeoma has been inside this administration and part controls the party machinery in Enugu. But for the sake of equity, an Nkanu east person is the person supposed to come forward if we are following our rotational/gentleman agreement policy in Enugu politics.Ifeoma Nwobodo has yet to gain public acceptance; There was a rally to try to convince Nkanu indigenes that despite originally being from Udi, she is now married to an Nkanu man and has the liberty to represent Nkanu. On the other hand, Frank Nweke hasn't any identity issues to battle with. His stint as Minister ended well. So, I believe he has the advantage of everything else except incumbency. My grouse with Gil is that he has neglected his constituency. He might have fixed a few schools at Nike but his ministership is parochial. Nkanu East and West and Isi Uzo has benefited little or nothing from him. And whatever he did at Enugu Urban must be too small because I cant see it. Contrast with Ekweremadu and Ayogu who have attracted vocational schools, SURE-P roads, offered scholarships or built churches. Nkanu East is home to the popular Unateze dynasty. I think we are yet to exploit this avenue to public acceptance. The Okwesiliezes were able to take advantage of their royalty to clinch political successes. |
heavenmade: In a speech at the Afenifere Renewal Group in Ottawa,Ojo madueke confessed that the yorubas are the most advanced in Nigeria. He said "This does not diminish my Igboness, the Yoruba is The most Sophisticated ethnic group in Nigeria." He further said "Rather than confront the yorubas, others should learn from their sophistry"Ojo Maduekwe ended up insulting his audience, not deliberately though. Sophistry: the clever use of arguments that seem true but are really false, in order to deceive people: |
spyder880: I will be watching closely as the aspirants appear,About time! Gil Nnaji has been unable to impress me... And I'm very easy to impress. Frank Nweke will do a better job. |
adconline: With or without Enugu' govt "genius effort" entrepreneur would have located in Enugu.. But without NB Plc, entrepreneur wouldn't have located located to Enugu. Entrepreneur started business in Onitsha and moved to Enugu.. Econs 101 nearness to market .. ie.. NB Plc.You see! I had pointed out that the Govt has given deserved praise to the entrepreneur, yet you insist on pursuing this tired line. I'm familiar with your antics. Enugu state values her investors, and that's all that matters. |
ketoprofen: with pix and concrete evidence. What is it about "Local Government System" don't you understand really? I've pointed out it is distinct from "productivity". Essentially, 'local government system' entails such things as the LG independence, as well as the State's noninterference in the LG framework. Ketoprofen nwoke beanyi, If you insist on dragging me into this debate, let us at least define what the argument is. |
adconline: Why do we thank politicians first before entrepreneurs who are risking their hard earned money? He made his remark in the context of Enugu being the state with the least crime rate. Now tell me if that's an accolade for ENSG or for entrepreneurs? The main article is full of effusive praise for entrepreneurs who "dared" to invest in the state. So, what's your angle, really? |
ketoprofen: So what? That is scarcely the point. Or, did we read different articles? This is the criterion used to adjudge Enugu as the state that runs the best LG system: According to him, Enugu State is an example of a Local Government system that is free from undue interference, especially in terms of funds and resources. If you undertake another study to determine which state has the most productive LGAs and you discover that Enugu is lagging, I'll equally help you post it here for all to see. |
ketoprofen: then the person liedHe's the ALGON boss, remember? |
ketoprofen: Passion007, you are right all through except in the LGA thing. How do you mean? The info I posted is verifiable. |
Moderators (OAM4J, Afam4eva, Ikenna351) frontpage pls! |
Gboliwe: I like this. But, how recent is this? I don't believe Enugu has the least crime rate, not with Eshoot and IMT tutu still around. Source. . . without maggi and pepper please.Per your request, the links have been added. |
Enugu State has a lot going for it: State with the least crime rate. The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Dikko Abubakar Wednesday declared Enugu State as having the lowest crime rate in the country, saying that this fact was buttressed by statistics and empiricalState with the Third largest IGR In third position was Enugu State withEase of Property Acquisition and Registration At 5% cost, Abuja, Enugu lead peers in ease of property registration...As against 15 percent of the property value charged by the Lagos State government for registering property, Abuja charges between 3 and 7 percent while Enugu charges 5 percent...In Enugu, land acquisition and registration are digitalised and our checks reveal that an applicant does not necessarily have to be in the state before he gets his transactions processed and his documents mailed to him.State that runs the best LGA system The National Chairman of the Association of Local Governments in Nigeria (ALGON), Chief Nwabueze Okafor, says that Enugu State runs the best Local Government system in the country...According to him, Enugu State is an example of a Local Government system that is free from undue interference, especially in terms of funds and resources. Not to mention the sheer natural and infrastructural beauty of the state, the massive investments in agriculture, rural development, urban renewal etc...Sullivan Chime has etched his name in gold in the annals of history!
