What a mess. The folks who signed the original agreement must have done so at the detriment of the Nigeria people for their own pecuniary gain. Hahaha....it only worked because it was Chevron hospital. The doctors had to inform the commissioner of police. The police had to quickly go to court to get exparte order before transfusion. Don't forget the parent won't pay for the blood. Now the aftermath....they were in court for 22yrs. How many such cases do you want to do before you die? Remember the parent we're not the one sponsoring the case... it is the religious sect. Bottom line is this....no single private hospital will take such risk. If Jehovah witness want to kill their children by refusing blood....I will gladly oblige them after counseling than going to court for 22yrs

I am not a Lawyer. The little I know about the Law however is that, with such a clear cut judgement, a precedent has been set. Most lawyers know not to seek reinterpretation of Supreme court judgements, thus any such cases will get thrown out quickly from the Lower courts in future.

This ruling, though it has taken more than a decade to traverse through our legal system, is well worth the wait, if it will save even the life of 1 child.

The Federal Ministry of Health should now ensure the import of the ruling is publicized such that all Hospitals/Medical staff know what to do when parents object to this or other procedures that may impact the well being of their wards.
