Politics / Re: Communism In Nigeria: Why Not? by passyjango(m): 6:11pm On Aug 15, 2011 |
okada_man: The first thing you need to know is that it is impossible to make everybody rich. If you attended any class in Economics, one of the first things you would have learnt is that human wants are many but the resources to satisfy them is limited. So, no economic system will be able to make everybody rich because it will be nearly impossible to produce enough resources to achieve these ideal. Take Nigeria for example our GDP for 2010 was $374.3 billion assuming we share this figure equally to every Nigerian each Nigerian (assuming a population of 150 million) will get $2495.33 which is around N374,300. This is for a whole year. So even an equatable distribution of resources will not make everybody rich, it will only make everybody poor. It is also important to note that our GDP is this high because of capitalism. With socialism people will lose the motivation to produce. Take all the traders struggling to make trades, entering night bus, endangering their life, just to do businesses. They are taking all these risk because they have a large say on what happens to what they make at the end of the day. With socialism or communism, businesses will have the same attitude to work that civil servants have and they will end-up as unproductive as civil servant which will only reduce the resources available for redistribution and increase the poverty of everyone. Communism is good in theory, but human factors make it impossible to implement. We have to wait until we can program humans, only then will communism work. What we need is capitalism with some welfare for the poor like affordable education, free health care, etc 1 Like 1 Share |
Islam for Muslims / Re: Islamic Banking Is Allah’s Command by passyjango(m): 12:51pm On Aug 09, 2011 |
The CBN governor should focus on regulations. For example, today we have Micro Finance banks, but how many of them are strictly following micro financing principles. Most of them are just micro finance banks by name. If the CBN can not regulate micro finance banks what is the guarantee that it can regulate Islamic banks. Banks will simply go for Islamic banking branding because of the buzz generated only to continue business as usual. However, it is inaccurate to say that Islamic banks will not collect interest. You may wish to deceive yourself by calling it profit sharing, but when it comes to stating it in your business account it will still be in the same place interest would have been. The only difference as far as interest is concerned between an Islamic bank and mainstream banks is that an Islamic bank will only charge interest if the business makes profit compared to mainstream banks that charges interest no matter how the business fares. So for an Islamic bank interest is not known when you are taking the loan, only the profit sharing formula is defined like 50:50 or something. So, Islamic banks charge interest on profit (although Moslems prefer to see it as profit sharing) and that is how they make money to run their operation. So the more profit the business makes the more interest you pay. For example, if you borrowed N1,000,000 from passyjango Islamic bank (all rights reserved), and the profit sharing ratio is 50:50. If the business makes N200,000 profit, the bank in addition to the principal takes N100,000 share (10% interest on loan), if profit was N400,000, the bank takes N200,000 (20% interest on loan). On the other hand if the business made only N10,000, the bank takes N5,000 (0.1% interest on loan). Nothing will be paid if no profit is made, however I expect the bank to demand for the remainder of the principal you borrowed, so that they can cut their losses. So, Islamic banks collect interest but Moslems refuse to call a spade a spade for whatever reason. |
Religion / Re: Bishop Oyedepo Calls For Caution On Islamic Banking by passyjango(m): 12:29am On Jul 30, 2011 |
I think this is a valid question. Most Nigerians cash all their money once salaries are paid. The outcry over increase of withdrawal limit by UBA is an example. Our problem is that we always beat ourselves up over nothing. We have had Micro-finance banks in Nigeria for years, but what is the level of micro financing taking place in Nigeria today? |

If the man actually used those words, then he must be a big FOOL!!. Although he is expressing the views of his subject, but as a leader he must know that he will be held accountable for his actions whether it is a popular demand or not. He should ask Slobodan Milosevic. |
Politics / Re: House Of Reps Okays Islamic (non-interest) Banking by passyjango(m): 12:05am On Jul 23, 2011 |
What is Islamic about Islamic banking. Do you have to wash your legs five times a day or visit Mecca? The fact is that the only reason why Muslims and Sanusi are insisting on the name Islamic is just to massage their ego. There is nothing Islamic about lending money to people on a non-interest basis, we all do that for friends and family. Even some non-religious humanitarian organisations have such schemes. Am sure that is why some smart people don't care about the nomenclature. Muslims can keep deceiving themselves that non-interest banking is their idea, while we will own, run, and make money from the so called Islamic banks. After all, for a smart businessman, it is the bottom-line that matters not the nomenclature. Besides there will still be room for non interest banks that will not follow Islamic ways. |
Business / Re: How Can I Become A Billionaire At 36! by passyjango(m): 9:34pm On Jul 21, 2011 |
No one sets out just to be a billionaire. You are losing your focus by just setting out to be a billionaire and with such attitude you will likely end-up poor like all the other dreamers. To succeed in life you need to figure-out what you are willing to give for that which you want. It could be a product, service, a better way, or just an idea then you need to work hard to make whatever it is a success. You may not end-up a billionaire in the end but you will be happy and make a difference wherever you are. Note that it is still possible to be a billionaire at 36 but broke at 40. 1 Like |

Don't mind the man, he is still basking in the euphoria of his new job. Soon another will tell us that $100 billion has been spent on power over the past three years and yet another will tell us that $200 billion has been stolen in Nigeria since 1980. That is how they fly inaccurate statistics all over the place when they are new to the job. Soon, he will settle down and start chopping his own. |

Politics / Re: A Dictator Is Coming To Fix Nigeria - Pastor Bakare by passyjango(m): 4:43pm On Jul 18, 2011 |
Whether we choose to admit it or not, Nigeria needs a single-minded leader who will not allow any obstacle to prevent him from achieving his aim of developing Nigeria. A man/woman who will use any legal means possible to achieve his aim and will uproot all that stand in his/her way through legal means. Someone who his yes is a YES and his no a NO, not the snakes and coconut heads we have today. You do not need a prophet to tell you that before Nigeria will be fixed a strong-willed leader or successive strong-willed leaders will have to emerge. He may have used the word dictator, but am sure he meant strong-willed, single-minded, result-oriented, no-nonsense leader. This is a prediction that must come true, although with the voting style of Nigerians it may take 100 to 200 years for this prediction to come true. |

Romance / Re: Only Married Men Ask Me Out! by passyjango(m): 4:12pm On Jul 16, 2011 |
The theory that women out number men in Nigeria is not completely true as far as this generation is concerned, especially when used as a reason for many single ladies. The fact is that women are not getting married because most potential husbands are still struggling with the hardship in Nigeria. Also most women are not actually looking for a husband, they are looking for someone to take care of them pay their bills, etc. So they are not looking the way of struggling guys they want already made guys. But the bad news is that before a guy gets made, a smart lady may have hooked-up with him, so he may not remember you again until after the wedding. |
Romance / Re: Only Married Men Ask Me Out! by passyjango(m): 2:34pm On Jul 16, 2011 |
It could be your past reputation. Serious guys ask around before to go after a girl, because just like you want a good husband, they also want a good wife. So if you were once known for having many boy friends, different men dropping you off at home (even if they were just friends), or even dating married men chances are that although you may not be engaging in such activities now, people (including you potential husbands) still remember you by your past. So in that case you need to re-brand yourself or relocate to a new environment. Also be careful the kind of message you send out. People judge you by your action and not your intentions. For example, if you have a guy visiting your house, people will normally assume that he is a boy friend, so potential husbands will not want to interrupt. Also if you have many guys visiting and dropping you off, people will assume you are a flirt, so potential husbands will simply run away. Do not expect people to understand that they are just your friends, because they cannot read your heart. Married men are after you because they think you are easy. If you say no and remain firm to one of them they will all disappear. Do not be surprised that all those married men that are asking you out are friends or members of the same club. You need to re-brand yourself and be mindful of the message you send to potential husbands interested in you. The message should be clear "I am single, available, and everything a man would want in a woman. Make me your wife today and I will make you the happiest husband ever" |
Romance / Re: Thoughts Of Cheating On Husband. by passyjango(m): 1:40pm On Jul 16, 2011 |
The grass is always greener on the other side. The truth is that the guy you admire today is no better than your husband. He is only sweeping you off your feet like your husband did when you first met. If you relate with him as long as you have with your husband you will find-out that he is as boring as you husband seems now to you. You should also know that your husband may also be considering cheating on you. Both of you need to come together and rekindle your relationship. |

What incentive or sensitisation has been put in place to encourage merchants to offer e-payment options to consumers. Must it be N150,000 why not something higher. Or does he think this policy will work just because he said so. For his information, Nigerians will only device a work around his limits, which will defeat the purpose of the policy. |

Sports / Re: Kanu Tops Nigeria's 50 Greatest Players by passyjango(m): 11:49pm On Jun 20, 2011 |
Kanu is the greatest player Nigeria has ever produced. He is also a very influential player. If Nigeria is losing and Kanu is on the bench there is this believe that he can come in and do some magic and his inclusion in matches usually changes it in favour of Nigeria. I can not remember any other player with that kind of influence in Nigeria. However, Kanu became my all time best when he single-handedly took Portsmouth to an FA come victory scoring some crucial goals. And I am sure that Kanu will feature in the top 10 list for Portsmouth, at least he is in the top 20 for Arsenal. This is an online poll so the people have decided. If you do not like it next time when such polls take place be an active participant rather than make noise on noiseland . |

Today, i was reading through status updates on face book, and i saw the one he posted last night ""months of meaningless sex , worthless relationships, finally I'm in love n I'm happy" i can't describe how hurt i felt. @poster, how are you sure that the guy was referring to you in the post. Couldn't it be possible that the guy was referring to his other relationships before he met you, in which case the status update could be a compliment. Your problem is that you are wishing the worst for the relationship, so I suggest you introduce some positive taughts in your mind as another lady with a positive mindset would have read the same update and be swept off her feet. You should atleast ask for clarification before reaching a wrong conclusion. Yes, English is not our mother tougue but we must learn to read between the line. |
Politics / Re: Let's Keep Hope Alive - Dora Akunyili by passyjango(m): 2:16am On Apr 30, 2011 |
Dorothy belongs to an insignificant political party. A political party with no manifesto or coherent programme. Ngige on the other hand belongs to a more organised political party. So if you ask me, Ngige will be more effective than Dora. Politics is not about making noise in the senate it is about carrying people along and collaborating with others to achieve your aspirations. Dora is too arrogant. When she speaks she opens her eyes like she is trying to swallow somebody. She talks as if she is commanding people. Such communication skill will not be effective in the senate where you are trying to convince your peers to support one programme or another. |
Business / Re: CBN Imposes Limits, Penalty On Cash Transactions, Again! by passyjango(m): 11:33pm On Apr 29, 2011 |
This is a good idea. We can easily trace fraud and mobile payment will replace cash. All that remains now is to ensure that all the components of this new ecosystem are in place before June 2012. This can create opportunity for a number of youths. Our problem is that we see problems in every situation instead of opportunity. What is our business with this new limit, after all how many of us have withdrawn more that N10,000 from our bank account since this year. Our business should be figuring out how we can tap into this new ecosystem and creating wealth for ourselves and jobs for other Nigerians. |

That 35% of appointed offices will go to women. I am just watching with my pop corn to see how that works out and the master-piece of excuses that will be used to justify the broken promise. |
Politics / Re: Who To Blame For Post Election Violence? by passyjango(m): 11:10pm On Apr 26, 2011 |
While we are busy looking for scapegoats, the Al-Qaeda is having a time of their lives recruiting ignorant Nigerians to help them achieve their global objective. Could you imagine how many people may have enlisted into Al-Qaeda in the past few weeks? Who knows it may take a suicide bombing in Alaba or Onitsha markets to unlock those docile brains of ours that we are sitting on a ticking time bomb. Maybe that is what we need to wake up from our slumber. Although most of us see the Almajiris as nuisance, they can be turned into assets if only we have the right people in government. All we need is to enlighten them, provide them with useful skills, and build an economic ecosystem around them. Imagine those millions of idle youths used to drive agricultural and industrial revolution in Nigeria. With their expertise in begging, they can even be turned into marketers. Once they are busy and can earn some reasonable income, they will have a value of self worth, which will make them harder targets for extremists and Islamists. |

Omooba77: Who Registered the under aged voters and why? You cannot blame Buhari for that. He is not in charge of INEC nor is he the chief security of officer of Nigeria. So blame INEC, Jega, PDP, and GEJ for the lapses in the electoral process. They were the direct managers of the process. The so called Almajiris are violent due to ignorance. Who is to blame for their continued ignorance and sense of low self-worth? PDP has been in control of most northern states for 12 years and till today they have not been able to find a lasting solution to the Almajiri problem. Is Buhari to blame for PDP's failure in solving the Almajiri problem? It is also wrong to judge the Almajiris with our own standard as they are largely ignorant and do not reason the way we do. Most of them do not have homes and hence do not know how much it costs to build a house so burning houses would not be a problem. They also have no value for their own lives so taking another is not a big deal for them. We can insult, condemn, and denounce them like we always do, but until we face the Almajiri problem head long it will remain there. The Almajiris are not the enemy. Our enemies are the people that created them and those who for their selfish reason have refused to tackle the social, economic, religious, and cultural problems that created them and continue to add more to their number. So causing the Almjiris is not going to help anyone. |
