Muttee: South African President Cyril Ramaphosa’s ruling ANC won re-election on Friday with an absolute majority in parliament, results showed, but with diminished support, complicating economic revival and anti-corruption efforts.
The results, published by the electoral commission, are the party’s worst national showing since Nelson Mandela led it to victory in the first multi-racial polls after apartheid ended in 1994.
The African National Congress (ANC) held a comfortable lead with 57.73 percent at 1615 GMT after 95 percent of voting districts were officially tallied following Wednesday’s vote.
That means they will be mathematically assured more than 50 percent of votes cast in the final official tally, due to be announced Saturday.
Seats in parliament are allocated based on vote share and the party with the most representatives selects the president, who will be sworn in on May 25.
President Ramaphosa, 66, took over last year when the ANC forced then-president Jacob Zuma to resign after nine years dominated by corruption allegations and economic decline.
Results released by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) showed the ANC’s closest rival, the main opposition Democratic Alliance (DA), trailing with a distant 20.65 percent of the vote.
The Economic Freedom Fighters, founded six years ago by former ANC youth leader Julius Malema, was in third place with 10.51 percent — up four percentage points on 2014.
Last week, Clinton Kalu, a native of Ndinwafor in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State, walked out from the Port Harcourt Maximum Prison where he had spent 27 years of his life for a crime he didn't commit.
He was roped into a murder case in April 1992 by some undisclosed persons while trying to resolve a dispute involving his in-laws. That marked the beginning of his journey in ‘hell’.
His trial at the tribunal and later at a High Court and his eventual detention happened so fast that when he found himself in prison over an offense he did not commit, he was livid with anger but later accepted his fate.
Recalling how he was sentenced to death by hanging or firing squad, Kalu in an interview with Punch said, “Twenty-seven years ago, some people were accused of stealing generating a plant and fluorescent tubes.
He cautioned that with the Supreme Court declaring him innocent, it would be wrong for anybody to tag him an ex-convict.
While in incarceration, Kalu lost his mother; and coupled with the fact that he was not married and had no immediate family (children), he struggled to fight loneliness even though his relatives, who also believed he was incapable of hurting anybody, let alone killing a person, visited him in prison from time to time.
Asked if he would avenge the injustice done to him, Kalu explained that he had been a changed man after gaining knowledge about the ways of Christ, adding that vengeance was not in his thoughts. He pointed out that though he felt insulted and humiliated by the court verdict, which sentenced him to death, he later realized while in prison that his tribulation was to serve a purpose.
On what the future holds for him, Kalu, who said he was diabetic and fed himself throughout the 27 years he stayed in prison, stated that he could take to politics or continue with his guidance and counseling job, which he was doing while behind bars. To cater for himself due to his failing health, the 56-year-old said he had to sell some of his personal belongings, adding that when funds were no longer there, the church took over his feeding. He pointed out that his experience in prison had taught him that anybody could find themselves in jail due to circumstances beyond their control.
According to him, life in a Nigerian prison will not reform most inmates because of the hardship inside there. On what his being in prison for almost three decades had denied him, Kalu lamented that he may not be able to know the whereabouts of most of his properties and maintained that he would have built more houses and acquired more properties if he were not in prison.
He said he was filled with joy when on April 5, 2019, the Supreme Court pronounced him not guilty of the charge against him, insisting that the judgment had vindicated him. “I was overwhelmed with joy on the day I was released from prison having spent 27 years there without committing a crime. Up till this moment, I feel like a newly born baby. God gave me another chance to experience His greatness again. I was happy doing that for free; nobody paid me for it. The church helped me to sponsor seminars that were organized in prison. I read the law before I went to prison,” he said.

More reason you should also thank God for Bukola Saraki. Saraki was the voice that God used to stop Tinubu's quest for VP and hence, you came into the equation. Unfortunately, you forgot Saraki just as the butler forgot Joseph (Gen. 4:23). Saraki's sin is because he stopped Tinubu from the VP position ... chikenna!
Brother, your Papa born you well, God used saraki to stop tinubu so that osibanjo will come into timeline. He should be grateful to saraki than tinubu

Life itself is a mystery, sometimes what we are passing through might be as a result of some hidden attrocities committed by our parents, eg, if a woman gives birth to a child whose biological father is not the man seen as his dad, the course attached to it be will always be pains and agony attached to the bastardized child itself. Atimes two enemies will be living together thinking that they are relatives.

Ebullience: President Muhammadu Buhari says those who said he does not have the stamina to run for a second term can find something else to say, now that he has gone around the country to seek votes.
Many of Buhari’s critics and some of his supporters had called on the president not to run for a second term, following his health challenges.
In 2017, the president was away from Nigeria for a medical leave in the United Kingdom, which lasted over 100 days. Before the long trip, Buhari had initially gone on a medical vacation that lasted 57 days.
Upon his return to Nigeria, Buhari spent at least 50 days away from the public eye, after confirming that he had a blood transfusion, and had never been this sick in his life.
A security source told TheCable at the time that his disappearance from office due to rat infestation of his presidential office was a decoy to keep him under medical care.
The president has since recovered and resumed his duties as the commander in chief of the armed forces and the leader of the nation.
In a brief interview with CNN, Buhari suggested that he has shown his detractors that he has the stamina to run Nigeria for a second democratic term.
When asked about those who say he does not have the stamina to go round all the states for the campaign, Buhari said: “Well, I have done it, so they can give you another answer”.
Buhari visited every geopolitical zone in Nigeria in the build-up to the February 16 election, kicking off his campaign in enemy territory of Akwa Ibom, and ending the same in his home state of Katsina.

In the judgement, Justice Aliyu Sanusi, ruled that the preliminary objection raised by the respondents, Ibrahim Umah and 22 other aggrieved members of the APC, had substance and therefore, struck out the appeal by the APC.
NAIJAHITPLAY: 9jahitplay As the February 16 Presidential election inches closer, Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore, has called on Nigerians to vote out analog leaders without the capacity to process data, saying data processing challenge is one of the problems hindering development in the country.
Sowore stated this while fielding questions at a Presidential interactive session in Abuja tagged “The People’s Debate.” Organised by a Civil Society Organization, Enough is Enough, EIE in collaboration with Television Continent, TVC, the debate featured five other candidates made up of Kingsley Moghaluof the Young Progressive Party, YPP; Donald Duke of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Tope Fasua of the Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party, ANRP; Fela Durotoye of the Alliance for New Nigeria, ANN and Sani Yabagi Yusuf of the Action Democratic Party, ADP.
“There is data everywhere but our analog leaders don’t know how to process data. My government will right the wrongs,” he said even as he called on Nigerians to support his quest for the highest office.
He bemoaned the long years of political decay saying since independence in 1960, the national leaders have not done what was expected of them.
He said: “For 58 years now, some wicked political jackals took over the affairs of this nation. Today, we have a country where people are sad.”
On his part, Moghalu pledged to announce his cabinet within 48 hours of his inauguration stressing that for the first time, ministerial designates would have portfolio attached to them, to enable Senators to drill them appropriately.
Moghalu, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, tasked Nigerians not to make the mistake of 2015, stating that more than anything else, the electorate should deemphasise the fault lines that have brought the nation down on its knees.
Many nations that once faced similar developmental challenges like Nigeria, he said have moved on, adding that 2019 offers a unique opportunity to change the narrative.
“Too many Nigerians still don’t have the basic necessities of life. Malaysia, Singapore, China were once backward but they have moved on. In 2015, it was anyone but Jonathan; let 2019 not be anyone but Buhari. It is time to elect a capable leader to harness the creative potentials of Nigerians,” he noted.
He also blamed the nation’s slow pace of development to what he called a lack of economic philosophy.
“Nigeria has no clear economic philosophy and without one, we can’t move forward as a nation. Is Nigeria a capitalist nation? If yes, what makes capitalism work for the common man on the street. I will work for the abolition of the land use act as a constitutional issue,” he added.
For Duke, access to capital is key even as he lamented the high-interest rate in the country in the past few years.
Durotoye, on joblessness in the country, blamed those who have been in power since the return to democratic governance in 1999.
His words: “Unemployment in Nigeria is man-made and it was created by those who have held power in the past 20 years.”
Yabagi while fielding question on how he would tackle restiveness if elected said the welfare of the people would be prioritised.
According to him, “We will address the issue of stomach infrastructure because it is very important. The missing link between Nigeria and greatness is leadership. We have a goldmine but it is being stolen. Corruption is the issue, if you can address it, investment will come into the country,” he stressed.
As it happened a few weeks ago, the candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, President Muhammadu Buhari, and Atiku Abubakar respectively were absent at the debate; a development Durotoye jokingly linked to their unpreparedness to face the tough questions. Unhealthy: I had to open this new moniker so that I can share my problems without any shame
I developed the staphylococcus infection last year through toilet I life has been so terrible for me.
I have been battling with constant headache, fatigue and shortness of breath, and a worm like movement in my body for a long time. Sometimes I feel numbness on the part of my body and it's really affecting me. My boss has been complaining about my incompetence at work and it's possible I lose my job if things continue this way
I've gone to several hospitals and spend a lot of money to conduct series of test after which blood culture revealed I have a heavy growth of Staphylococcus Aureus.
I took the result to a doctor and he prescribed Pefloaxin for me and I also took five injection to flush this bacteria and it seemed like I was getting out of the bond of this bacteria until the symptoms returned back few weeks later.
I decided to resort to Nairaland because most of the doctors I've gone to are incompetent, and I don't want to take too much antibiotics so that my body will not become resistant to it.. The way this staph is affecting me is becoming unbearable. I can't sleep or breath well
Someone suggested I go to general hospital since they seem to be more experienced but all na the same. They are always too much in a hurry to attend to patients and prescribe drugs.
Please if you have treated this stubborn infection before, how did you manage to cure it completely? Did you use drugs or herbs?
I know many carriers of this bacteria normally get scammed by online advertisers and I know they will flood this thread with their fake herbal drugs. Please I need you to come to my aid and don't look for a way to swindle money from me with ineffective drugs
Here is the result of my test.
Please help me move this to the FP for a wider audience
Bro so sorry for your worries, buy rocephine injection for complete seven days and kick the stupid staph out of your body
