By law Copyright arises once the idea is fixed in a permanent form. While you can register your song with Nigerian Copyright Commission, this registration is not proof of ownership and could only be used to maybe prove the age of your creation. For emphasis Copyright in the Song or other creative work arises once it is fixed in a permanent medium Furthermore copyright in Songs is a bit complex and divided into 3 parts that could be owned by 3 different people depending on circumstances and agreement. Literary Copyright This refers to the wordings of the song when it is written. Copyright in the musical work This refers to the musical notes i.e. the composition, beat etc Copyright in the sound recording This refers to the recorded song. ie what you play via a CD or is played on the airwaves. You could join a registered collecting society (COSON in Nigeria) to get some benefit from the use of your Song by Radio and TV and other public media. although I am not sure of their integrity. hope this helps Chukazu: |

For a lawyer to give you advise or determine whether you have a strong case, he/she needs to know the provisions of the immigration laws of the country you are in. So if you specify the country then you have a better chance of getting someone who can advise. 2ndly a lawyer in that country is likely to be more knowledgeable about the laws of that country. You get my drift? happy200: |
which country did this happen? what you need is a lawyer from that country |

@Abiambo, the first thing is to determine whether the idea is patentable or whether it qualifies for another form of intellectual property protection. I hear a lot of people talk about patetns when they really dont know what its about. send me a message and i can guide u thru the process or at least point u in the right direction |
