Normally I don't like to chook mouth in this kind talk, but on this one I would like to share my opinion. Firstly I agree with izzou on the fact that we need to cultivate the habit of voting out a party if they failed or didn't meet up to our expectation even if it's just to send a message to those people who populate the party at that point in time.

To buttress my point, I will use the Fulani Herdsmen crisis as a case study. Yes I'm aware Fulani Herdsmen-Farmers crisis has been a re-occurring issue in this country, but it never became as serious as it was under Buhari's 8 years. Yes there are rumors that the Fulanis who are terrorizing people across the country were actually foreign mercenaries brought in by APC to force Jonathan's hand if he had plans not to concede defeat in 2015. I won't dwell much on the rumor since there's no way to confirm its genuineness, but the body language of Buhari and APC as a party over the past 8 years has shown they don't have what it takes to stem the tide in the escalation of these Fulani herdsmen attacks.

Yes I'm a Yoruba boy but I served in the North West at a time the entire north viewed Jonathan as a Southerner who didn't care about the boko Haram insecurity issue in the North East that time. The South and the entire North (North west, North Central and North East) agreed it was the right thing to send PDP being led by Jonathan parking because he has not shown enough grit to nip the Boko Haram issue in the bud and they voted the party out. In fact some of those in PDP with Jonathan who agreed with that viewpoint left PDP and moved elsewhere.

Now fast Forward to 2023; Boko Haram did not only refuse to die in the hands of APC, but so many other insecurity issues grew exponentially under them including the Militarization of the Herders-Farmers crisis where herders now carry automatic weapons resorting to killing people and burning down villages/farmlands, different non-state actors in the Southeast and Southwest engaging in kidnapping for ransom/killings and even Banditry in the North West.

It makes absolutely no sense to me that people will know all of these aforementioned facts and then still look at APC as the party that will solve these myriads of problems that grew under their watch for 8 years when majority of those who formed the party are still there . E no just make sense to me.

If membership of a political party is founded on sound ideology then, I'd accept the argument that a party that fails should be voted out but that is not the case. Amaechi, Saraki and other PDP stalwarts jumped ship and were placed in exalted positions in the APC yet they still lampooned the PDP for being a failure, a party they formed a core of its fulcrum...

What happened to the PDP in the lead-up to the 2015 elections where Amechi and his crew decamped should have happened to the APC but the PDP missed the opportunity by handing over its ticket to Atiku. It just did not make sense that Atiku who is a Fulani man would succeed Buhari, another Fulani man, that move was a recipe for disaster and that is what prevented a lot of disillusioned politicians in the APC from leaving the party.

Obi and the LP on the other hand were not an option for these political heaveweights with influence and deep pockets, no thanks to the hate for the Igbo man. Truth be told, most people who did not support Obi in the North did so because of that seed of distrust planted in their minds and secondly, the LP did not have the political machinery to penetrate some of those places which would not have been the case if Obi had flown the flag of the PDP.

So, for me, I think the victory of the APC was more or less made easier by the miscalculations of the opposition...

On this thread, people who supported APC here clearly told us here that APC failed, so what is the justification for voting it again? Abi dem collect crumbs?

No guarantee that LP would be better, but the gain would be to checkmate mediocrity, and send thieves to retirement. If LP fails, they already know that o ti lo

If APC had lost, Matawalle will not suddenly decamp and get a position. He will wait for 4 years, at least, assuming the new government doesn't open his file.

Our politicians have mastered the populace, them no rate Nigerians at all. There is no consequence for failure in Nigerian politics. Patapata, you take a break for a few to enjoy your loot. If they end up in jail, they are given palatial treatment there and are out before the end of their sentence, maybe forfeit a % of the loot.

We are wailing about APC who have been a disaster, but let me assure that if PDP or LP wins, those same criminals in APC will decamp and join the PDP/ LP or the winning party, so what gives?

Increase fuel to 2000/L, they know Nigerians will only wail but they will buy. Insecurity can meet everyone at their door step except the rich and politicians, nothing will change, they know Nigerians will only wail. This is especially sad for a country with the amount of educated citizens and tertiary institutions littered around the country.

I can go on and on. We need to start from the process that nominates these criminals for elective positions. Until parties begin to present credible and prepared candidates across all levels. Also, Our institutions are extremely weak, I keep saying this.

Folks keep talking about the APC as if it is a person. 80% of politicians in the APC were once in the PDP so, it has more to do with the class of people we elect to lead us than the party and our knack for not holding elected officials accountable.

Even if LP had won, the national assembly would have frustrated Obi and who's to say most of these crop of failures wouldn't have decamped? It is the sad reality of the society we find ourselves, see Doyin Okupe who was indicted by the anti-graft agency rose to the level of campaign DG all because he has the resources. If Atiku or Obi had won, they'd easily welcome into their fold someone from the APC who was a former governor/senator/minister than elevate a modest party faithful. The system rewards people with no values.

Looking ahead, will the average Nigerian demand good governance instead of asking for crumbs from politicians?

Will the average Nigerian grow above ethnoreligious bias when the law catches up with someone from his/her ethnic group?

When I served in Osun State, I got to meet one of Aregbe's SAs from Ipetumodu in Ife-North LGA. Every other weekend he comes home, and the whole community flocks to his compound, they have to cook from Friday to Sunday when he departs and not just that, he dispenses cash freely. So, where exactly do the people think he gets all that money from? Also, how will they be able to ask questions about the government he works for after eating their cake?

Nigerians first need to set our priorities right. To demand accountability is to reject the crumbs but seemingly, it is a big ask for Nigerians...

I also understand why a lot of people won't discuss issues peculiar to their state here but rather on Facebook and other platforms. For instance, if I talk about Cross River here, it will be mostly me dishing out info which might not be factually correct because we do not have a lot of Cross Riverians here or people who reside there to engage me. The same can not be said of Lagos...For Rivers, I think it's Wike and his antics that made people start discussing Rivers State.

In all, we should at least hold our state governments accountable in any suitable measure, it just doesn't have to be on these boards...

You are narrowing it down to CEO which is not the bone of contention. What folks here clamoured for is a rejig of the management team across the board from the youth set-up to the scouting to the DOF role to the CEO...

Dayo, I have always argued here that we have spent as much as our rivals and have engaged the services of good managers over time but some others feel that our poor recruitment of players (overpaying and in some cases, signing players that are not good enough) points to the board and to be honest, they do have a point. One of the strong proponents of the logic that we need to overhaul the management team is the first to sound pessimistic here hence my post.

I just want us to try again with a different setup at the management level to see if it will improve our recruitment process...In recruitment, the focus is on incoming and outgoing.

We have seen it play out before. The board refuse to sign some players the coaches recommend, and the fans complain. The board gets another coach and gives him the power to decide who comes in and who goes yet the fans still complain pointing fingers at the club's management team, accusing them of being clueless on how best to manage a top team and now, the board are doing what we agreed is the right thing to do but una dey preach pessimism.
