Politics › Integrity Nigeria Up Against Corruption With The ‘spirit Of Egunje’ by PaulJohn1(op): 7:39pm On Oct 30, 2012 |
“The fight against corruption is a personal and serious one.” A review of Integrity Nigeria’s Spirit of Egunje campaign Corruption is endemic in Nigeria and its pangs are far reaching, denying millions of Nigerians the rights to life, daily. This is the reason Integrity Nigeria, an organization that focuses solely on combating corruption and promoting good governance has taken the campaign against anti corruption a notch higher.
The group said the the cost of corruption has become more costly to Nigeria’s existence now, more than ever before. “Since it has eaten into the very fabric of our nation, we want to expose it… we do not want to sit down and watch it destroy us,” the Integrity group holds. Hence, it created a means to ‘set fire to corruption’ in Nigeria – The Spirit of Egunge.
The Spirit of Egunje is a journey out of the box. Very much unlike other anti-corruption campaigns, it is set in form of a competition. Promoting critical thinking and intellectualism amongst its target audience –young people within the age range of 15-40 years, the Spirit of Egunje will seek to “chase out corruption” in Nigeria for good.
The Spirit of Egunje will engender debates on bribe giving and taking, with ordinary citizen giving their perception of the culture of bribe which is the literal meaning of Egunje.
It will utilize the widened public sphere created by the internet and social media to encourage citizen participation in the fight against corruption. The Spirit of Egunje competition is divided into five categories – best story, best poem, best song/video, best art/cartoon and the most involved person on twitter advocating against corruption using the hashtag #Egunjeinfo.
The competition will take place on November 22, 2012 in Abuja. However, entry for the competition closes on Friday, November 2. In order to be eligible to participate in the competition, candidate must follow Public Integrity networks on facebook and on twitter with the handle @PINS2015.
On the integrity website( http://integritynigeria.org/ ), useful information about anti-corruption and the Spirit of Egunje competition can be found.
Integrity Nigeria Originated in 1995, has maintained a reputation in research and intense combat against corruption. With visionaries its helm, Integrity Nigeria has stood out and has until now never been enmeshed in ethical controversies.
“Empowering people, their transactions, systems and institutions against corruption, this includes by building better livelihoods,” Mr. Apampa speaks about his work. With Visionaries at the helm of affairs at Integrity, the organization is poised to contribute to good governance in Nigeria. mike404: Phuck all the mallams jor FASHOLA/ROCHAS Yeah, Fashola all the way. Hmm, Rochas! The man seem to be a wolf in sheep clothing to me. From recent news I've heard about him, he can't be trusted. Also, he seem to be desperate for presidency. For this, I can't say he's a hard working governor, all the works that I heard he's doing might be to convince people of his credibility. I'm not just saying this to castigate the guy, but I just have the feeling he isn't the man we think he is. Imagine this; I woke in the morning to check what's up, switched to AIT, surprisingly it was MR Rochas on my TV screen. I was like, yeah I've heard of this dude, his a very good and hard working man. I took my time to learn from the great speaker , after like ten minutes, I realized his speech were baseless and look more of a campaign manifesto. After watching this, I concluded it's just an uncommon event, that AIT just want to broadcast. Some days after, I switched on my TV set. Again, MR Rochas! Imo state's new development was displayed, like an election is coming up in the state and the hard working governor needed re-election. Later, some weeks after. Same thing was done. Mr Rochas delivering speech and his good work shown It was later I heard he has the intention of becoming the president. Hearing this, I just No more story case closed. I think a good hard working governor don't need to broadcast himself. You can't see the likes of: Fashola, Oshiomole, Obi... Preaching to be the messiah on TV(nationwide). Back to Topic. My nomination; Fashola of Lagos Obi of Anambra And any right thinking governor from the North. |

Impressive. Good roads there.
I think every state/city in Nigeria has it's good part. The main thing is for the good portion to surpass the ugly ones. And from the news here on NL, it's like it's lesser part of Abia that's looking good. Most part are otherwise. Wish every corner of the state can look as good as that.
Again, the quality of the roads shown are impressive. |

Politics › Ikogosi Warm/Cold Spring In Ekiti Enters World's Tourism Haven by PaulJohn1(op): 7:41am On Oct 29, 2012 |
For some countries, tourism is as old and known as the country itself. Likewise, a city gets the respect it deserves based on the level of attraction it can draw from tourism. Cities such as New York, London, Dubai, Tokyo, have remained top of the mind as a result of one or more significant tourism features. As it is in Western nations, so it is in Africa. For instance, at the mention of places like Calabar, Masai Mara in Kenya; Victoria Falls in Zambia and Durban, what comes readily to mind are the beautiful tourist sites that abound.
In Nigeria, it is common place to hear people describe rich potential of a state according to the number of tourist sites. But over the years, most tourist sites have suffered severe neglect with successor governments doing little or nothing to rescue the situation. However, this was not the case in state such as Cross River years back. For the state, three things stand synonymous; the Tinapa Resort, the Obudu Rance and the annual Calabar Carnival. To this end, in recent years, Calabar have become a hub both for tourist investors locally and abroad.
In Ekiti, similar effort is going on as the governor appears determined to turn the Ikogosi Warm Spring to an enviable tourist destination in a manner that would transform the state's economy around. Two years on, Ikogosi is fast becoming the next port of call as tourist spot, going by the development going on at the moment.
As part of activities making the two years of Fayemi led administration, different programmes are lined up to celebrate milestones and achievement parts of which is the achievement in the ancient town. Last weekend, the governor and his team put together what was tagged 'Ikogosi Warm Spring Resort Day'; to let the world knew that a new dawn had arrived.
The event started on a high note with a play performances tilted "Building our house" by the Ekiti state cultural trope. The performance was a delight to watch as audience and onlookers who trooped to the hall got treated to a display of different cultural dances and steps. Thereafter, school children dressed in white t-shirts, and blue shirts, welcomed the governor and his entourage with a callisthenic displays depicting an inscription JKF, a title representing initials of the Ekiti Governor. http://allafrica.com/stories/201210290142.html |

There was a post Sallah prayers free for all between members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and some members of the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibadan Friday.
THISDAY checks revealed that the fracas took the intervention of the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Alhaji AbdulAzeez Arisekola in whose private residence the fracas ensued to broker peace.
Sources hinted that pandemonium ensued when the PDP stalwarts in company of the former Senate Leader, Teslim Folarin and Azeem Gbolarunmi stormed the Islamic chief's residence after the Sallah prayers at the Agodi Eid praying ground singing the praises of their party while the state governor, Abiola Ajimobi was on seat.
It was learnt that one of the promoters of the pro-PDP song who sat behind the chairman of the NURTW, Taofeek Ayorinde Fele was told to stop the song as it was politically offensive, but the advice was spurned.
Fele who became infuriated by the action was reported to have slapped the PDP stalwart on the chest, prompting his NURTW members who were at the residence to pounce on the PDP stalwarts beating and clubbing them out of the place.
Arisekola who was not happy with the trend reportedly mounted one of the tables in his sitting room to call the warring parties to order and directed them to leave his house. In the ensuring fisticuffs, no fewer than 20 persons were injured while all PDP supporters were severely beaten by the NURTW boys.
Shortly after the incident, the caretaker chairman of the NURTW led his boys to the Agodi government house where Ajimobi counselled them against taking laws into their hands and vowed that he would not hesitate to ban the union if they would engage in street fight.
In his reaction, Folarin denied that his party men precipitated the crisis, clarifying that his supporters were at Arisekola residence to felicitate with him on Sallah. http://allafrica.com/stories/201210270421.html |

Good observation OP. Nairaland should be a place where the young minds of our great country, shares and exchange ideas on meaningful topics that can add to us personally or to the country at large. It should have been a platform where meaningful discussions are made and our great intellectuals showcases their gift to the world, because it's like the Web is the main avenue that links the world together. But mehn, it's reverse. It's known for displaying our hatred for each other and showcasing how competitive we are on fruitfulless things.
