BusinessRe: Financial Inclusion In Nigeria: The Challenges Of Banks & Mobile Money Operators by Pavore9: 2:34pm On Mar 13, 2016
igwedaboss:
Good day sire,
Please, I would like to know how mobile money operators make their money. Do they charge their customers a certain amount of fee or they receive a percentage at a particular period of time. please if you know, kindly enlighten me
Baed on the model used here in Kenya, to deposit into your mobile money account which is your phone number, it is FREE but to send to another number you pay a fee and also to make a withdrawal from your account there is a charge. But one can send to another number paying both the sending and withdrawal charge. The receipient receives an Sms that you have sent him/her a transfer, he.she alongside their ID, goes to the nearest agent with the phone that has the sms in which the withdrawing code is in.

I use airtel money because the withdrawing charges are lower and l do not have to pay for sending to another number irrespective of network. With a Debit card linked to it, l have an option of withdrawing from any ATM with the Visa logo worldwide or make payment over POS.

Hmm....The basic psychological need of a man is respect while that of a woman is love. Neither respect nor love are things that can be forced rather they have to be worked for and earned.

The OP, did not highlight the fact that he has been defrocked.

Great thread, OP.
Hope business is good.
You should seriously find ways to weight, grade and pack them in various portions for supermarkets and home/office supplies to clients.
Best.
You are so right about packaging them for better market access but so unfortunately we are stuck in our ways! Seein those produce in those basket saddens me when using plastic crates looks better and reduces wastage.
BusinessRe: Financial Inclusion In Nigeria: The Challenges Of Banks & Mobile Money Operators by Pavore9:
WorldChanger7:
Mobile Money would have work in Nigeria if there is a robust agency network spread to facilitate transactions but currently, majority of the un(der)banked prefer a trusted platform that can guarantee the safety of their deposit and gives them additional value such as interest, microcredit etc. which are not available on Mobile Money
We need a robust agency network. Across Kenya, there about 100,000 mobile money agents offering deposit and withdrawal services. The platforms are secured. They do also offer loan services based on subscriber's credit rating. I can easily borrow an equivalent of $40 from Airtel Money network and choose to pay back either in a week or two at an agreed interest rate and within 2-3 minutes the loan is approved, l get an sms that the money in now in my Airtel money account which is my phone line. I have the option to go and withdraw it as cash from an agent, go to an ATM to withdraw since it linked to Debit card or use it for online payment anywhere Visa is accepted. Once the subscriber repays the loan promptly, the amount he can borrow next time would be increased by at least 25%

As for banks, most of their customers conduct their financial transactions using agencies, some agencies are as small as a 6ft by space and in there one can collect/send Moneygram, Western Union, withdraw and deposit cash into banks the agency represents. They operate 7 days a week.

Mobile money will work in Nigeria, the selfishness of banks will not let them feel comfortable with Telcos rolling out such service, l use Airtel Money in kenya which is basically my phone number and do have a Visa debit card linked to it.

See them going to arrest someone in his house at 4.30a.m but call them about an on-going crime at that same time, they would want you to first come to the station to write a statement....and they want us to believe "Police is your friend".

prologue:
Sir, I have been a keen follower of your ideas. I would like to come to Kenya and acquire knowledge on green house construction and farming techniques. Also, get exposure on markets. Where do I need to start from?
You need to list out what you intend to achieve while visiting Kenya and weeks before arrival engage with the persons/institutions you want to learn from. That would help you calculate time and costs.
AgricultureRe: My Thoughts For 2016 by Pavore9(mod): 5:44am On Mar 10, 2016
Saw an advert where the attached picture was posted, the Advert is sponsored by a big Kenyan agro exporting firm that massively exports Dutch potatoes, fruits and vegetables to Europe. They are looking for farmers who grow the pepper organically as they intend buying tonnes of it for export, What caught my attention was many Kenyans saying if the company was to be Nigeria based it would be easier to source it as Nigerians are more into the variety!

Truly Kenyans farmers don't grow much of it that is why it is not commonly seen in the market as one is only sure to see it in Indian owned grocery stores as Indians consumes it like us.

This shows we have crops that have huge market potentials but lack of adequate knowledge and logistics is just what is hindering us! sad
