I just had time to respond to this post of yours. First of all, Israel just became a country only as recently as in 1948, while the kingdom of Benin is of many African kingdoms that existed many centuries ago. This should explain to you why one still exists till today and the other does not.

You should also realize that nations rise to power and fall. This is history. Egypt was once a world power but today it is not. Rome once rose to power and influence but today it is a shadow of its former self. Benin empire was a great influential kingdom, wielding influence over Bini land, parts of Yoruba territory, parts of Igbo territory etc. This is WELL DOCUMENTED in history. The Benin empire was defeated by the British after it was invaded, destroyed and the king sent to exile. If not for this, I would expect the Bini kingdom to continue to exist till today.

I see attempts to belittle the Bini kingdom by some people on this forum or even more so to re-write history and undermine the influence it had.

Your question about if war breaks out between Bini and Yoruba does not even make sense in this question because you are assuming that the greater population of Yoruba would make sure they win, while forgetting that today wars are much less of physical fighting than in the past and are more of use sophisticated weapons. Also, having allies on your side can assist a country in winning its wars.

Whether you choose to accept it or not, the Bini people had a GREAT kingdom, and wielded great influence over several areas, including Yoruba land. You don't have to agree with history and you are entitled to your own beliefs. But do not try to belittle someone else's influence or claim someone else's influence as yours just because it does not belong to you.

The fact remains that evidence of that your acclaimed greatness was/is not present here and so because both yorubas and binis have no valid written history, it will be good for us to assume the present situation to judge. That is my own point.

He searched, toiled and wailed for a name to give this idea of his, and at his brightest moment a name pulped up, a mantra – CHANGE.
It seems like a cheery good idea so he started making it a reality. As a politician himself, he knew all he needed to appeal to was the selfish, insatiable greed of his counterparts. So he beckoned on all politicians from the leading opposition parties and lured many that were not satisfied with their portfolio from the corrupt ruling party. They pooled their forces and formed a new Alliance. To facilitate the support of all concerned towards making this dream of his a reality, a portfolio was promised to all in the neo-government to come. This enhanced the tenacity of the concerned and the aggrieved towards bringing this unchecked idea to total fruition.
Needless to say, aids started coming in from home and more from ravenous foreign bodies. All wanted to have a share of the impending windfall. They bought the media and painted anyone that opposes them black and everyone who supports receives kudos. They made to the masses a lot of promises that are not realizable. They promised to conjure millions of jobs magically from nowhere; stabilize Oil price; and even make a Naira equals a Dollar. We were promised Utopia, and the game of thrones became a win or die affair. We were all promised that if we can buy this dream with our votes, everyone will live happily ever after. The end!
The singular dilemma with this fairytale is -it’s fabricated. There is no unbending law of politics or economics that proves that when one power-hungry political party takes over power from another, good life will follow suit. And so we found ourselves in a realm that is far away indeed from that we were promised. Instead of highly skilled jobs pulping up, more and more youths were being laid off their jobs by the day; the ignorant masses have now realized the power hungry monsters have no power on the Oil price; the nation’s economy becomes shrunken by the hour; the Naira keeps falling helplessly against the Dollar; and more and more graduates are currently working in jobs that do not require a degree.
Agonizingly, our land is now in a ridiculous shape which is not remotely amusing particularly not to the younger generation- many who labored untiringly for this big fat lie. The truth is the change preached to the masses was nothing but a con or better still, it wasn’t meant for all. We were promised the land would be our oyster if we give our votes, but instead of finding our pearl inside after several months of the new government, all we were left with are loads of blames, more empty promises and a nose-diving economy. Majority of us can barely fend for our mouth. The land is now made up of a younger generation of no promising future; older generation saturated with unrepentant, greedy politicians; and an old, injudicious and vapid figure as a ruler.
We are men of the night-watch and winter is coming. How do we get out of this Storybrooke?

In the 70's i used to hear my parents complaining about Nigerias economic challenges. In the 80's i had the same experience, in the 90's i was old enough to feel the pains of poor economic challenges and on and on till Obasanjos time, Nigerians were complaining and down till today, Nigerians have always been complaining. All the former rulers have contributed one way or the other to the problems we are experiencing today. Few years ago, Okonjo Iweala was warning that Naija should save for the raining days but your governors then insisted that they should be sharing excess crude oil money........today 13 of those governors are back in power under APC blaming Naija economic woes on Jonathan. Let us not allow sentiment to overshadow our reasoning, all past leaders are responsible including many who are now in APC.
