The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum, AYCF, has cautioned Nigerians against blackmailing successful businessmen and women who are contributing to the economy of Nigeria through job creation.
AYCF National President, Yerima Shettima gave the caution while reacting to a report of blackmail against the Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema.
Reports had it that one Austin Ogannanah had alleged that Onyema fraudulently acquired a loan used as his startup capital for Air Peace.
However, Shettima described Ogannanah’s claim as false and cheap blackmail for failing to provide adequate details to back his allegations.
Shettima, in a statement he forwarded to DAILY POST, cautioned Nigerians against falsehood aimed at tarnishing the image of private investors.
The AYCF National President expressed the belief that the Air Peace boss started his business on a legitimate ground, stressing that no bank would give out loans without proper documentation.
He further described the allegations against Onyema as ridiculous.
According to Shettima, the main aim of the blackmailer was to bring down Onyema and his airline.
He said: “The blackmailer used an old news report about alleged financial mismanagement by a former chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Program, Mr. Kingsley Kuku and mixed up facts while trying in vain, to insert the Air Peace CEO’s name in the tirade.
“This blackmailer who is based in the United States is well-known for this dirty game and he is no other than Mr. Austin Ogannanah.
Our independent checks as a CSO has revealed that the Air Peace CEO, Chief Allen Onyema got his startup capital for the business through legitimate bank loans. And no Nigerian bank gives out loans without thorough paperwork. This also means that if Mr. Ogannanah was not out for cheap blackmail, he would have confronted Mr. Onyema with questions on how he got startup capital.
“We have also established that the unsubstantiated claims in the news story targeted at the Air Peace CEO, Chief Allen Onyema was entirely false, as our independent investigations have now confirmed.
“We condemn this cheap and dirty means of extortion through painting innocent compatriots in black by mixing up wrong information and tying it to an individual investor and his investment.
“They said the CEO struggled for money as a startup for Peace Air and gave the year he started the purported struggle as 2015, but admitted elsewhere that the company started operation in 2013. This is quite ridiculous and it exposed the underbelly of the blackmailer and his media associates in this easy money-spinning venture.”
The AYCF National President warned that picking on “big-time investors” could dent the image of investors.
Shettima urged all Nigerians to stand up against such acts of blackmailing indigent investors.
“The AYCF says enough of this band of professional blackmailers picking on big-time investors as targets for fake online media campaigns of intimidation and harassment.
Category 2 ILS is different from airfield lighting. It’s true that the ILS will be fully installed by October; but the ILS and airfield lighting have different functions. The ILS guides pilots safely onto the airport, while the airfield lighting merely assists the pilots to navigate through the runway and taxiway at night time.
Day and night commercial flight operations will on Monday resume in full swing at the rehabilitated Akanu Ibiam International Airport Enugu, Vanguard can authoritatively report.
The development followed a Notam issued by the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency, NAMA Aeronautical Information Service, on Friday September 4, 2020.
Based on the Notam, flights operations from Monday, September 7 was approved from 7:00 am to 7:00pm, expecting that certification of the Airfield lighting would be issued on Sunday, September 6 for night operations to begin on the same Monday.
Subsequently, new Airlines have indicated a preparedness to add Enugu to their flight schedules. The airlines include Ibom Air and United Nigeria Airline, in addition to other airlines that had made Enugu their traditional destinations.
Vanguard, however, gathered that some airlines, precisely those who were used to Enugu routes were yet to schedule Enugu in their operations, but Ibom Air announced that it would be flying from Lagos and Abuja to Enugu on daily basis from September 14.
Corporate Affairs Manager of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Mrs Josephine Abba-Adjara told Vanguard that all were ready for commercial flights taking off and landing at the airport, disclosing that it expected a commercial aircraft on Friday but did not come.
Addressing a press conference, on Friday, Chairman of a technical committee set up the South-East Governors Forum for the rehabilitation of the Airport, Engr. Chris Okoye stated that what was probably withholding commercial airlines operations was their internal preparedness to fully resume commercial flights operations.
Okoye stated that even though some other rehabilitation works were still ongoing in the airport, air and land have made ready for flights operations having completed the rehabilitation of the extended three kilometres runway. Okoye said: “It was the runway that was promised to be delivered and not the entire projects. The airport was shut because of the runway and not because of the terminal buildings among others; everything should not be ready for flight operations to begin. The runway is probably one of the best runways in Nigeria and by November ICCA will come back to grant license to the airport, to receive world class aircrafts.”
Okoye further disclosed that projects such as the airport gate that was supposed to be part of the international terminal building project were brought into the present rehabilitation works, noting that these other projects cannot restrict flight operations. “By Sunday, the first phase of the airfield lightning would be completed because it was divided into two phases and the second phase will take up to November to be completed,” Okoye disclosed.
Heard rumors that once international flight services resume at the Enugu airport, Ethiopian airlines will seek to launch direct flights from Enugu to China, Thailand and Japan.
You might be wondering: is it possible for a foreign airline to fly directly from Nigeria to a 3rd country? The answer is Yes, because Nigeria is a “Fifth Freedom” country - meaning that foreign airlines are authorized to fly from Nigeria to another country that isn’t the home country of the foreign airline. For instance, RwandaAir flies has direct flights from Lagos to Accra and vice Versa.

Joe Biden's campaign is expected to have raised more than $300 million in August, surpassing the Democratic presidential nominee's previous monthly record for fundraising, The New York Times reported Tuesday.
Two people familiar with the matter told the Times that the Biden campaign's expected total comes from his campaign and shared committees with the Democratic Party. The majority of the former vice president's August haul came from online grassroots donors, another person familiar with the figures said.
Sources told the newspaper they did not know the exact amount raised for August or how much higher than $300 million the amount would be.
The Biden campaign did not immediately return a request for comment.
Any total that is more than $300 million would be more than previous monthly fundraising by candidates in both parties. The Times notes the total would be more than what President Trump and Hillary Clinton raised in August 2016 combined.
The amount would surpass what is believed to be the monthly record of $193 million collected for former President Obama's campaign in September 2008, but there is no formal tracking system, according to the Times.
In July, the president and the Republican National Committee fundraised $165 million, compared to Biden's $140 million. The campaigns indicated that at the beginning of August Trump had more than $300 million in the bank and Biden had $294 million.
The Trump campaign also has not announced its August figures, although it touted raising $76 million during the Republican National Convention last week. The week before, the Biden campaign reported more than $70 million was collected during the Democratic National Convention.
But the Biden campaign announced it earned $48 million in 48 hours after Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) was named the vice presidential candidate last month, a massive fundraising haul for the Democratic ticket.
Reports of Biden's August totals come after ActBlue, a website for Democratic donations, reported its second highest fundraising day ever on Monday with more than $35 million donated, according to the Times.
The site has processed at least $11 million every day since Harris was named Biden's running mate.
Ibime: The young shall grow. I'm currently in hospital. My son climbed dining table this morning and fell on his head. As we picked him him up, expecting his cry, instead he fell silent and went into seizure and stopped breathing like a boxer about to die in the ring. The fear wey catch me. We gave him CPR and called ambulance. Luckily he caught his wind and regained consciousness after 3 or 4 minutes. After 2 or 3 hours in hospital he was back to his normal self and CT scan cleared him of brain bleed. We will be discharged soon. This made me reflect on the innocents whose lives became punchlines here a few days ago. It is completely unacceptable, and also unacceptable to accuse a father of molesting his children. Nothing scares in life more than losing children, and nothing offends a father more than being accused of being improper with his children, or mocking the death of children.
Oh my! Thank goodness your child recovered from the incident
Mendy has a great height (6’6”) for a goalkeeper, but he seems to parry most shots to dangerous areas where opposing attackers can easily hit a rebound. Maybe that could be an area Cech could work to fix.
Ethiopian Airlines successfully unveiled its new passenger terminal at Bole International Airport last week. The flag carrier ensured the terminal was designed with a focus on bio-security and bio-safety measures.
Addis Ababa, Ethiopian’s capital city, houses Bole International Airport. The airport serves as Ethiopian Airlines’ central hub. The new terminal is also part of the carrier’s 15-year growth plan, referred to as Vision 2025.
Amenities in the new terminal The new terminal is equipped with 60 check-in counters and 30 self-check-in kiosks. There are 10 spots for self bag-drop services, 16 immigration counters, and 16 screening areas for security purposes.
Further, the development of the terminal needed to accommodate widebody aircraft. There are three contact gates for the planes, and 10 remote contact gates, which includes travelators, panoramic lifts, and escalators.
Aviation24 reported that there are 32 counters and eight e-gate provisions at the arrival section. These are on the mezzanine floor level.
CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, Tewolde GebreMariam expressed his gratitude for the opening of the new terminal. He acknowledged that from 2019, Bole International Airport had become the leading gateway to Africa, taking over Dubai’s spot. He added,
“What makes the new terminal unique is that it’s the first terminal in the world to be completed after COVID-19. It was designed, not re-purposed, with Bio-safety and Bio-security in mind. I’m sure our esteemed customers will highly appreciate that.”
Opening a new terminal is a significant part of Ethiopian’s Vision 2025 project. Essentially, one of the core pillars is aviation infrastructure expansion. Vision 2025 is Ethiopian Airlines’ 15-year plan that focuses on transforming the airline and cementing its position as Africa’s largest airline group.
As reported in Payload Asia, Vision 2025 consists of four core pillars, one being securing the right fleet. At the moment, the carrier has 121 planes, ranging from Boeing 787s to Airbus A350s.
The next pillar is on infrastructure, as aforementioned. In 2017, Ethiopian Airlines opened its Cargo Terminal-II facility in Addis Ababa airport.
The third pillar is human resource development, as the airline continues to pump money into training its staff and crew. Finally, Ethiopian aims to improve its systems. It has since automated all its procedures and is moving forward to becoming a paperless airline.
Succeeding during the pandemic Currently Africa’s biggest airline, Ethiopian has managed to prove its resilience amid the pandemic. While COVID-19 was affecting almost every airline in Africa, Ethiopian Airlines did not require a bailout.
To date, the international airline has not defaulted on any of its payments neither has it received or needed any financial lifeline.
The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan; President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote; and Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, are the three persons favoured to rule Nigeria when the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari ends in 2023 by North American and Western European intelligence agencies.
The report of the intelligence agencies also revealed that the consideration of the three was based on their strength, reliability, qualification and national acceptance, adding that one out of the three persons will be the next president of Nigeria.
The report further revealed that the trio will slug it out among themselves with consideration of their pedigrees.
Another source from the North American agency disclosed that Dangote’s experience in economy is what Nigeria needs going forward, adding: “Nigeria being the largest country in Africa need stable economy to fight insecurity and insurgency in the Sub-Sahara region.
“However, his non political alignment will be a stumbling block since he must need political structures to prosecute the election.
“His individualistic lifestyle may also pose a big challenge for his nomination. Reports on him is that he is very elitist, has no marital life and unreachable to the masses.”
This attitude of his, according to the source, would most likely work against him.
The report further revealed that majority of Nigerians will express fears over Dangote’s candidature due to the fact that he may have been a beneficiary of the mismanaged sum of $16 billion, being the fund which was initially meant for Nigeria’s power project during the tenure of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
In 2003, Dangote almost filed for bankruptcy before getting assistance from Obasanjo, who was the then president.
The damaging reports on Dangote is that of allegedly receiving stolen public funds and the relationship between him, Olusegun Obasanjo, Julius Makoju and the $16 billion spent on the defunct National Electric Power Authority.
However, Dangote’s link to the Obasanjo $16 billion electricity fund largely has to do with his engaging of Makoju in the Dangote Industries Limited after his government appointments.
Makoju, who also served as Special Adviser (Electric Power) to President Goodluck Jonathan, was the Special Adviser to the President/Chief Executive, Dangote Group, and retired as the Group Managing Director/CEO of Dangote Cement PLC.
The report also suggested that Kalu, a former two-term Governor of Abia State, and Lawan are better options due to their political exposure.
The Northern American intelligence also made it known that the Governor of Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu; former Governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff; and Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, have intentions to contest, but lack the requisite capacity to do.
Kalu’s record shows that of an ex-convict, though findings are that his incarceration was political.
The report further noted that former President George Bush of the United States of America and former Prime Minister Tony Blair of the United Kingdom had in the past resisted several attempts by Obasanjo to arrest Kalu in London.
The former leaders noted that Kalu was absolved from any form of corruption after thorough investigation and also described Kalu’s incarceration as a big mistake.
The Agencies rated Lawan as the “cleanest” candidate with an untainted record in public service, adding that should the zoning arrangement fails, the president of the Senate should top the list.
Otherwise if it goes down to the South East, Kalu will be most preferred as he would bring his business acumen, exposure and political clout to restore the economy, the report said.
WeRblessed: Can someone book a flight from LA California to Enugu Airport and return from Enugu to LA?
Yes. You’d have to fly Ethiopian airlines though. According to the aviation minister, Enugu airport will be ready to resume international services on September 5. You would have to have an itinerary that takes you from: LA to Chicago/D.C./Houston. Chicago/D.C./Houston - Addis Ababa Addis Ababa - Enugu
I have two theories on why Orji Kalu is a prominent contender for the presidency in 2023:
First, the northern Muslim political cabal will make him the APC candidate, but will then turn around to support and rig into office the northern PDP candidate. Remember that regardless of political affiliation, the northern Muslim political establishment always has one objective - to retain national political power at all costs. So, it’s not entirely inconceivable to imagine that the elements of the northern establishment in the APC would be too happy to help rig in the PDP candidate into power.
Second, in order to quell the rising calls for the actualization of Biafra, the northern Muslim political establishment may simply “allow” Orji Kalu to serve one term (or even less, they may force him to resign after his first two years in office). Thereafter, he will be asked by the same northern establishment to handover to his northern Muslim VP in 2027. To that end, I won’t be surprised if OUK’s running mate would be Nasir El-Rufai, the current governor of Kaduna.
Pep Guardiola and Lionel Messi could be reunited at Manchester City, but it won't come cheap.
According to Sport (h/t Marca), the Premier League giants are preparing a five-year, €750 million deal. The reported details are as follows:
"The report says this contract will be split into two periods—three years with City in the Premier League and two years with sister club New York City in MLS. Messi would earn 100 million euros a season before tax at City, with a total contract worth of 750 million euros over five years. The rest of the sum will be the 250 million euro signing bonus to join New York."
What remains in question is what transfer fee, if any, Barcelona will be able to obtain for Messi. The player has a €700 million release clause, though Messi has a stipulation in his contract that he could leave on a free transfer if he announced his intention to do so before May 31.
Messi sent a burofax to announce his departure intentions after that date but argued he did so before the season ended, given that the campaign went on hiatus and resumed in the summer because of the COVID-19 pandemic. His argument, in essence, is that the May 31 date became irrelevant once the season stretched well into the summer, since the date represented the original end of the season.
Messi leaving on a free transfer would be devastating to Barca on a number of levels, while having a €700 million release clause would offer them far more leverage to keep him.
ALL is now set for the reopening of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, after over one year closure to effect repairs and upgrade the facilities to international standard.
The ceremony will hold by 10 am tomorrow and will be witnessed by notable Igbo leaders led the Southeast governors and members of the National Assembly from the zone.
The expanded and extended runway has been completed and wearing a new look. Finishing touches were being put on few things inside the airport building as at the time of filing the report, while the Aviation Minister, Senator Sirika was being expected at the airport for final supervision ahead the reopening ceremony.
The rehabilitation of the effort has been engrossed in controversy with intermittent stoppage of work for lack of fund. However, Igbo leaders led by the South-East governors and National Assembly members from Igbo land never relented. They mounted immense pressures on the Federal Government over the airport, lamenting the negative economic impact of the continued closure of the airport on the zone.
Based on the pressure and subsequent release of funds, the minister had made frequent inspection visits to the airport, just like the Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who had literarily taken the project as his State project, making regular unscheduled inspection visits.
With the reopening of the airport today, air travellers from the Southeast, especially international travellers will have sigh of relief.
The reopening ceremony which will be done by President Muhammadu Buhari will be attended by the Southeast governors, led by their chairman, David Umahi and notable Igbo leaders, including members of the National Assembly from the Southeast and officials of the aviation ministry.
The Federal Government on Monday said airlines would be fined $3,500 per passenger for airlifting passengers without negative COVID-19 test results as it prepares to open international flights. The coordinator, Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Sanni Aliyu, said this at the daily briefing of the PTF on in Abuja.
Speaking on the new protocols that would start from August 29, the coordinator said passengers coming into the country must present a PCR COVID-19 test result that was within seven days.
Mr Aliyu also said that when a passenger arrived Nigeria and presents a PCR negative result, the passenger was expected to self-isolate for seven days and submit his or her COVID-19 test before reuniting with the community.
Concerns On the concerns over cases of passengers coming into the country with a negative COVID-19 test result and testing positive in Nigeria, he said that PTF was studying the situation and would take a decision when the need arose. Mr Aliyu said that health workers would monitor passengers on self-isolation and if any passenger failed to present itself for testing after seven days, the immigration would assist and proper sanctions would be meted to the passenger.
