I sometimes wonder what they are smoking in the National Assembly. undecided
Lol
I support the plan only if the proposed reserve corp will be a separate military command with commanders who are serving military personnel.
The reserve Corp will function like the National Guard in the US, who are called upon to supplement the efforts of local law enforcement in the event of a total breakdown of law and order.
We always have to assume that there would be situations where the police will be overwhelmed in the ordinary course of their duties because it happens everywhere else, including the United States.
Moreover, I hope the NASS makes provision for Senate confirmation of the commander of this proposed joint unit. It will deepen the doctrine of civilian control over the military, which is a key feature of democratic nations.

Freedom of speech is obviously protected by the First Amendment, but speech that is designed to incite immediate violence is not protected.

So, any member of the White supremacist mob that incited the violent acts today should be identified and arrested by the Charlottesville police. I'm somewhat happy that the terrorist who rammed the car into crowd has been apprehended.

Politics › House Of Reps Proposes ‘Armed Forces Reserve Corps’ by PDPGuy(op): 1:16am On Aug 13, 2017
A bill, sponsored by Rep Muhammad Sani Abdu (APC, Bauchi), was first introduced on the floor of the House late last year and subsequently passed the second reading, titled: ‘A Bill for an Act to amend the Armed Forces Act, to among other things, provide for specific duties for the Armed Forces Reserve in order to serve as a Rapid Response Mechanism with capacity to intervene in Emergency and Internal Security where the Nigerian Police is overwhelmed’.

A copy of the bill, obtained by Daily Trust, says the principal Act should be amended by substituting for the existing Section ‘3’ a new Section ‘3.’ The proposal says in the new Section 3 (1) that the Armed Forces Reserve Shall: (a) on the order of the President step in to maintain peace and order where on the joint resolution of the National Assembly or on the advice of the Service Chiefs that the Police were overwhelmed; (b) in collaboration with relevant security agencies protect and assist in rescuing of the civil population during the period of emergency;

It states in subsection (c) that the reserve will recruit and train able persons in counter terrorism, rioting, climate and other natural disasters; (d) on the president directives utilized to serve as a rapid response unit for counter terrorism, rescue mission on climate and natural disaster and (e) undertake such national and international assignment in furtherance of national security as the president may direct from time to time.

It proposes a new Section 3 (a), which says “The Chief of Defence Staff in consultation with other service chiefs may make regulations governing methods of recall of members of the Reserve, their payment and any other matters pertaining to the Reserve as may be deemed fit in the circumstance.”

The Reserve Force will have a full central command and control system with an experienced retired military officer heading it, and is for both retired officers and rank and file.

During the debate on the bill, Rep Abdu said the establishment of the Armed Forces Reserve in a country is usually aimed at providing alternative force to salvage civil population in periods of eventualities in which conventional security services offered by the police will not suffice to overcome devastating challenges that threaten human existence, or corporate survival of a nation. He said most countries of the world, especially the developed ones, have military reserves.

The bill was proposed to fill the gap in the Armed Forces Act and make provisions through amendment for the establishment of the army reserves in response to emerging security challenges in the country which requires more sophisticated security intervention beyond the conventional services provided by the police force.

The specific objectives of the bill are to utilize the military reserves to provide rapid response mechanism to address emerging national security challenges such as kidnapping, insurgency, militancy; provide security support to the Nigerian Police in times of emergency and bearing security challenges beyond capacity of the Police Force.

It is also to provide trained and ever-ready qualified personnel for active duty in the armed forces during periods of eventuality; create opportunity to the National Assembly to exercise its powers of making laws for the peace order and good governance of the federation; create further opportunities for realizing the provision of security and welfare of the people.

Politics › Re: Lamido, Dankwambo & Fayose Campaign At PDP Convention (Photos) by PDPGuy: 12:46am On Aug 13, 2017
Dankwambo will be PDP's presidential candidate in 2019, take it or leave it. His experience as Accountant-General of the federation for 5 years (under Obasanjo), and Governor of Gombe for soon to be 8 years puts him head and shoulders above other wannabes.

I foresee the three main presidential tickets in 2019 to be as follows:

APC - El Rufai with Amaechi

PDP - Dankwambo with Donald Duke/Osita Chidoka

Independent - Atiku with Peter Obi/Soludo/Fayose.

Aisha Buhari will be a senator in 2019, and could possibly be the next Senate president if the APC maintain their majority in the senate, and outmaneuver Saraki and his allies in the party.

PDP is confusing APC with Fayose for President ...PDP are master strategists...They have started playing their mind games for 2019

It's just a game.....APC won't know what hit them in the coming months

Fayose is just a decoy to keep confusing APC about PDP strategies for 2019
I like your thinking

Any Nigerian political guru knows that both major parties will field Northern muslims as their respective presidential candidates. Fayose, as you said, is only gunning for the VP slot.
Fayose knows that he will face stiff competion for that position if OBJ endorses Donald Duke to be a running mate. So, he is only putting his name out there

Starting Batshusyi turned out to be a mistake. Morata did way more to trouble Burnley's defense, and he capped it with a goal and an assist.
The ref was a bit of a joke today, issuing a yellow card for 'sarcastic clapping' huh Was it really necessary to Craig Pawson to book Fabregas for that?

Anyway, I still believe CFC have big odds on retaining the title

Tell me one politician who would not take measures to protect his government,

Or if you were a newly elected president who needed to prevent another coup at all cost, you would not go the OBJ way,

Politics is amoral (Niccollo Machiavielli), there is no moraility or immorality in politics and as a leader you've got to take some critical decisions that are devoid of emotions and sentiments

That is how it works.
I am telling you.
That was the mistake Shagari made between 1979-1983. He never fired any of the serving military officers who had participated/benefited from the 1966-1979 coups. Maybe because the majority of the beneficiaries were Hausa/Fulani, Shagari thought that his administration would be safe.

Although it seemed harsh at the time, this is one action that I applaud Obasanjo for taking.

Foreign Affairs › Transgender Ban: U.S. Soldiers Sue President Trump by PDPGuy(op): 8:56am On Aug 12, 2017
Five active-duty transgender military personnel are suing President Donald Trump over his proposal to ban transgender individuals from military service, two weeks after he announced the move on Twitter.

Plaintiffs in the lawsuit filed Wednesday include three Army soldiers, one Air Force airman and a Coast Guard member, have all come out to their commanding officers, Reuters reports. All five are anonymous in the lawsuit due to concerns that they may face retribution.

The suit alleges that Trump's tweets violated the right to equal protection and due process of transgender service members. According to court papers, Defense Secretary James Mattis and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph Dunford are also listed among the defendants.

The American Civil Liberties Union is also preparing a similar lawsuit, according to Reuters.

Trump announced in a series of tweets on July 26 that the U.S. "will not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity," attributing the decision to what he said were "tremendous medical costs" and "disruption" caused by transgender service members.

The announcement appears to have surprised even military leaders. Dunford said that the tweets will only become policy when Mattis receives official White House direction, adding that the armed forces "will continue to treat all of our personnel with respect" in the meantime.

Car Talk › Re: Ferrari Threatens To Take Legal Actions Against 360 Modena Limo Owner by PDPGuy:
Ferrari is acting according to the dictates of the law. Patent law, in general, prohibits individuals from substantially modifying the structure and/or features of a product that has a valid patent number. Having the title to the product, as proof of ownership, is irrelevant in this matter.

For instance, if I buy a Samsung smart phone, and take it apart, then add some parts of an iPhone to it, Samsung are well within their rights to institute a lawsuit against me in any court of competent jurisdiction for patent infringement.
