Foreign Affairs › Re: American Politics Lounge - Donald Trump Is US President-Elect ! by PDPGuy: 5:56pm On Aug 10, 2017
obixcel:
Former President Barack Obama’s National Security adviser, Susan Rice, wants President Donald Trump to accept North Korea as a nuclear power.
“History shows that we can, if we must, tolerate nuclear weapons in North Korea — the same way we tolerated the far greater threat of thousands of Soviet nuclear weapons during the Cold War,” she wrote in a New York Times op-ed, criticizing the president’s “fire and fury” rhetoric in response to the escalating tensions between the two countries.

Rice urged Gen. John Kelly, White House chief of staff, to stop Trump, and she pointedly attacked Dr. Sebastian Gorka, the deputy assistant to the president.

“John Kelly, Mr. Trump’s chief of staff, must assert control over the White House, including his boss, and curb the Trump surrogates whipping up Cuban missile crisis fears,” she wrote.

Rice complained that Trump’s rhetoric was “unprecedented and especially dangerous” and that America would have to be cautious about its response to Pyongyang.

She defended Obama’s actions in response to North Korea, insisting that his administration put them “on edge” by conducting joint military exercises with South Korea and introducing more economic sanctions.

She urged Trump to continue the Obama doctrine on North Korea despite growing hostility from the country.

“Rational, steady American leadership can avoid a crisis and counter a growing North Korean threat,” Rice wrote. “It’s past time that the United States started exercising its power responsibly.”

Come and see Derangement! shocked......I knew these communists posing as liberals would eventually side with the enemy.
You may not like her because she is a liberal, but she made a cogent main point about tolerating North Korea as a nuclear power. History tells us that the Soviet Union eventually collapsed - both economically and politically - after spending obscene amounts of money on defense which was unsustainable.

The North Koreans could eventually suffer the same fate of the old Soviet Union. Once China realize that a nuclear North Korea is a threat to Beijing's aspiration of being Asia's military and economic power, China would cut food exports to North Korea. The resulting food shortage would force Pyongyang to abandon its nuclear program and focus on funding its agric sector

Even though Google is often different from what is happening on the ground, this article sheds some light on what is happening here in the US. I would say it's very lenient, because most men end up paying the child support.
The article is accurate. In CA, the non-biological dad and even the biological dad could be on the hook for child support.

Speaking seriously, I do not understand why men do not speak with the women on a video app. Also why not go to where the woman is located instead of sending her money first? I say this as someone who has been sent money and gifts sight unseen. Men can be so foolish at times.
Absolutely foolish indeed.

But if the guy wants to do a video call, the lady would say she doesn't have money for data, which would prompt the guy to send airtime/money to her.

Even when she makes up a fake story about her mum being sick, love (or lust) can blind a guy to the extent that he won't mind sending money in order to prove his love.

The guy's red flag meter should have been blinking when his gf told him multiple times that she had problems with rent. He could have requested to speak with the landlord to confirm the veracity of her claim. Of course she wouldn't have contacted him again if the boyfriend made that request cheesy

We experienced the worst reccession, yes, but oil dropped to its lowest in decades too. The question is what did your useless god do with all the money made during the high oil price tide, with Nigeria producing oil at full capacity. Off course for Osun election, his mistresses, particularly the frogged eye that gives him the best BJ on planet earth, arms scandal, self enrichment. Call everything propaganda, ur inconsequential opinions have never counted since democracy, and it wont even count in 2019 and beyond. Let that gum on your skull.

Come to Southern California and your eyes may pop out when you see what many ladies wear in public during the Summer. On campus, many girls even wear bum shorts that barely cover the ass crack

Lol.

I have said this here for a long time. A high number of kids belong to another man outside. Especially firstborn kids.
If he had not caught her red-handed, he'd never done DNA test. Like majority of people never do DNA test.

I think the best thing is to shame her into withdrawing any claim to anything. Like letting her family, church/pastor and anybody who cares to know hear about it. Maybe even social media.

The guy is very lucky. She could have killed him as the best bet to claim all his wealth.
Lol

You really think that shaming the woman would discourage her from seeking legal enforcement of her rights? If she is really determined to get half of the property that was acquired in the course of the marriage, no amount of shaming on Nairaland, Facebook or LIB would deter her.

Yes, he could get tired of being married to her. But some cougar/younger guy celebrity marriages have lasted for ages. For instance Gabrielle Union and Dwayne Wade are still married despite her being 10 years older than him, and they got married when he was (and still) is earning millions of $$ from his NBA career.

So, it could swing either way.

Congratulations are in order for Miranda Lambert and Anderson East! In Touch can exclusively confirm that the "Little Red Wagon" singer is engaged to her boyfriend of a year and a half after proposing to him.

“They actually got engaged over the phone in late June," a source exclusively tells In Touch. "Miranda, 33, was playing a festival in Chicago and Anderson was at a gig in St. Louis. They were up talking long into the night and suddenly Miranda blurted out, ‘Will you marry me?’” Anderson was clearly off guard because at first, he didn't think Miranda was being serious. He probably figured she was playing a joke on him or goofing around, but (thankfully!) he soon realized that she wasn't joking at all.

The source continued, "When Miranda told him that she was serious, Anderson, 29, didn’t think twice about saying yes." How sweet! And the couple isn't wasting any time when it comes to planning the exciting event. They've already decided to elope in the fall and then embark on a tropical honeymoon. But, their friends and family will be able to celebrate with them as well during a party next summer in honor of their nuptials.

Fans of Miranda's will definitely be excited to hear this news. She's getting her happy ending after an ugly split from Blake Shelton in 2015. Since their divorce, Blake has moved on with Gwen Stefani and now Miranda is preparing to be a bride again.

OBAGADAFFI:
That's is if they acquired properties together while they are married.

This is an example of what might happen

http://citifmonline.com/2017/06/14/nii-odartey-lamptey-wins-court-case-against-ex-wife/

Former Ghana international Nii Odartey, has won his lawsuit in which his wife was seeking to gain 50% of all his wealth.

An Accra High Court ruled on Wednesday ruled that, Gloria Appiah, his former wife, committed ‘adultery’ when she conceived three children out of wedlock and subsequently quashed her motion to be awarded half of the property of the former footballer.

Justice Cecilia Don-Chebe Agbevey, who presided over the matter, also ordered the estranged wife to vacate the footballer’s plush 7-bedroom apartment in East Legon within 30 days.

She was however allocated a small property at Dome, a suburb of Accra, as compensation, leaving the player with the clearance to keep the majority of his hard-earned wealth.
The person you quoted is partially right. In community property jurisdictions, both parties have joint ownership of property acquired during the marriage, regardless of whether it's in joint title or in the name of only one of the parties.
Family › Re: How Do I Keep My Property From A Cheating Wife During Divorce? by PDPGuy: 9:02pm On Aug 09, 2017
In Oghoyone v. Oghoyone (2010), the Court of Appeal essentially held that a respondent has joint interest in property belonging to both parties.
So, if any of the property has joint title i.e. real property such as houses or commercial buildings, the trial court may indeed award half of the property to the wife. Meaning that if they jointly owned, say, two homes, one of the homes could be awarded to the wife by the judge.

Greenbullet:
Hello nairalanders, and no I am not married , but my friend is, he has a one year old child or so he thought , his kind of work requires him to travel regularly, and so he hardly stays at home, on a faithful day , he came home early to meet his wife having sex with another man, he filed for a divorce, and was already thinking of child support but I advised him to do a DNA test and he discovered the child wasn't his ,the wife has hired a lawyer to get half of his property, please what can be done to stop this.
If your friend lives in Nigeria, he has solid grounds for seeking divorce because his wife definitely committed adultery by having a child for another man; and your friend can show that he finds it intolerable to live together with his estranged wife.

With regard to division of property, it is totally up to the discretion of the judge. But I suspect that the judge won't divide the property equally. Nigeria is more of an "equity" jurisdiction, and I'm not sure if Nigerian family laws have provision for spousal support.

If he were in a "community property" jurisdiction, there would be an 80% chance that the property would be divided equally because community property jurisdictions ascribes joint ownership of all property acquired during a marriage.

I'd advise your friend to contact a lawyer who specializes in family law to give him the proper and necessary advice.

The truth is that no country is a complete eldorado. America has its problems just as any other nation.
So, I will advise anyone trying to migrate permanently to America to really do their homework before commiting to embark on the journey.
Moreover, anyone in Naija who makes N500,000 or more every month is relatively comfortable and may not be desperate to emigrate permanently to the US/seek the Green card. Surely Nigerian millionaires and billionaires would likely prefer to only visit the US for vacation rather than hustle for US citizenship
