Yes, we have an average team but they are heavy favorites to qualify. Luck will play, at best, a minimal role in the SE a qualification campaign.

Now, at the World Cup proper, the team will need massive luck to make the knockout stage because, obviously, WC opposition will be far superior to the likes of Cameroon, Algeria and Zambia.

My former colleagues have taught me a bitter lesson about giving loans to people, never again! I like the CNS suggestion of rotational tenure, as for senate confirmation NO COMMENTS
I'm not in favor of the rotational tenure idea. The best man/woman for the job should simply be nominated to the post.

But I love the idea of the service chiefs having guaranteed tenure because tenure will insulate the SCs from unnecessary politricks, especially when a new president takes the reigns of power. Therefore, I'll prefer a 3-yr tenure for the SCs and the Chief of Defense Staff.

In addition, I'll also propose a change to the military chain of command. I believe the chain should run from the president - Defense minister - service chiefs - GOCs (and their equivalents in the navy and air force) - mid level commanders etc.

Tip #6: The interviewee must ask at least 2-3 questions during the interview. Asking relevant questions shows that you are enthusiastic for the job. If you, as the job seeker, is only interested in answering questions, the interviewer could interpret that as you not being really interested in the job.
However, do not ask questions about your potential salary and/or vacation time. Those sort of questions would portray you as someone only interested in the pay (of course that's all what we want grin) and not willing to put in the hours for work.

Stop to recharge at Ore. The idea is to have charging stations where gas stations are presently located. 20-30 mins to full charge would be the ideal scenario.

The only problem Tesla is facing is shortage of service centers, your car breaks down, and there's no one in town who knows anything about fixing it and the closest service center is 500 miles away.
You've got a workable idea!

Nigeria may not be ripe for fully-electric vehicles until, say, 30 years time. But in the interim, hybrid vehicles could be the more popular brand in the country.

Innoson should seriously look into producing efficient hybrid vehicles before he goes out of business.

Its all to deepen the doctrine of civilian control over the military. Despite the reservations I have of a majority of the members of the NASS, I support this move by them.

Moreover, I'll go ahead to suggest that the IG, heads of the DSS, DMI, NIA, Immigration, Customs, Prisons should all be confirmed by the Senate.

Parliamentary approval of the service chiefs is in line with what obtains in other democratic nations. In the US, for example, all members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (service chiefs) must be confirmed by the US Senate prior to their appointment.

SPEAKER, House of Representatives, Honorable Yakubu Dogara on Monday disclosed that the current efforts by the House to amend the Armed forces Act was geared towards ensuring that the military perform optimally.

Speaking during Public Hearing organised by the House Committee on Defence on 6 different Bills on defence related matters referred to the Committee by the House, the Speaker said that, “the armed Forces also need to be strengthened to face the numerous security challenges faced by the Country with adequate funding and necessary policy frameworks”.

Commenting on one of the bill, a bill for an Act to amend the Armed Forces Act, Cap.A20, Laws of the Federation, 2004 to make the appointment of Service Chiefs subject to confirmation by the National Assembly, the Speaker said that, “I must say that this bill represents the correct position of the law and judicial authorities. I will dwell a little bit on this bill as it has far reaching constitutional significance for both the National Assembly and the President”.

The Speaker noted that, “in this regard, I wish to draw your attention to the fact that this matter was extensively canvassed in the case of FESTUS KEYAMO VS. PRESIDENT , FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA and 4 others, Suit No.FHC/ ABJ/CS/611/08, where the Federal High Court in a landmark decision held that S. 18 of the Armed Forces which is in pari materia with the current amendment sought by this Bill is not inconsistent with the provisions of the Constitution and therefore valid.

“The Court set aside the Armed Forces Modification Order, 2008, No. 50, made by President Yar’adua purportedly pursuant to S.315(2) of the Constitution, which deleted the requirement for National Assembly confirmation of appointment of Service Chiefs, as unconstitutional”, he stated.

To this end, he said that, ‘This case dramatizes the danger of leaving Section. 315(2) of the Constitution as part of our laws. It was meant to be a transitional provision. We will take the earliest opportunity to revisit the issue of deleting Section 315(2) from the Constitution in the ongoing constitutional review exercise, and hope that the House of Representatives will then rise to the occasion to do its duty in this respect.

“What this decision means is that Section 18 of the Armed Forces Act is an integral part of the Law as currently in operation, since there was no appeal. There may therefore be nothing to amend. But I will leave it to the wisdom of the Committee to deal with as it deems fit. We must however express our thanks to the sponsor of this Bill for drawing the attention of the House and Nigerians to the issue.

With respect to the bill that sought to amend the Armed Forces Act, on appointment of Chief of Defence Staff, he said that the Committee should determine whether deletion of Section 4 of the Act is necessary to achieve the laudable proposals of the Bill which will ensure, if passed, that the office of Chief of Defense Staff is specifically created and is subjected to confirmation by the National Assembly.

The Minister of Defence, Brig- Gen Mansur Dan Ali (rtd) who also spoke at the event said that Section 18 of the Armed Forces Act 2004 should be deleted so that the President can exercise his constitutional powers to appoint Service Chiefs.

The Minister who was represented by the Permanent Secretary Amb Danjuma Sheni said that the appointment of Service Chiefs under the existing Act is in conflict with constitutional provision on the appointment, citing Section 218 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) which empowers the President to appoint the Service Chiefs to buttress his position.

In his own contribution, the Chief of Naval Staff CNS Vice Admiral Ibokete Ekwe Ibas suggested that there was need to make the appointment of Service Chiefs tenured and rotational through an amendment to the existing Armed Forces Act 2004.

The CNS who was represented, by Lt Commodore G.I Ubong at the hearing said that the appointment of Service Chiefs by the President and Commander of the Armed Forces should be made tenured and rotational among serving military officers in all the six geo-political zones of the country.

US opens new $11 billion base in South Korea as North Korea missile program intensifies

CAMP HUMPHREYS, South Korea - This small American city has four schools and five churches, an Arby's, a Taco Bell and a Burger King. The grocery store is offering a deal on Budweiser as the temperature soars, and out front there's a promotion for Ford Mustangs.

But for all its invocations of the American heartland, this growing town is in the middle of the South Korean countryside, in an area that was famous for growing huge grapes.

"We built an entire city from scratch," said Col. Scott W. Mueller, garrison commander of Camp Humphreys, one of the U.S. military's largest overseas construction projects. If it were laid across Washington, the 3,454-acre base would stretch from Key Bridge to Nationals Park, from Arlington National Cemetery to the Capitol.

"New York has been a city for 100-some years and they're still doing construction. But the majority of construction here will be done by 2021," Mueller said. (New York was actually founded nearly 400 years ago.)

N. Korea: Missile test proves it has capability to nuke any part of US

N. Korea: Missile test proves it has capability to nuke any part of US

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said Saturday the second flight test of an intercontinental ballistic missile demonstrated his country can hit the U.S. mainland.

The U.S. military has been trying for 30 years to move its headquarters in South Korea out of Seoul and out of North Korean artillery range.

Since the end of World War II, the military has been based at Yongsan, a garrison that had been the Imperial Japanese Army's main base during Japan's occupation of the Korean Peninsula. It is in the middle of Seoul and just 40 miles from the demilitarized zone that separates the two Koreas.

The South Korean and American governments have been talking since 1987 about moving the base away from Yongsan, but political and funding issues had slowed the process. Protests broke out a little over a decade ago when the Pyeongtaek, a sleepy rural city 40 miles south of Yongsan, was chosen as the new base site.

Now, the $11 billion base is beginning to look like the garrison that military planners envisaged decades ago.

The Eighth Army moved its headquarters here this month and there are about 25,000 people based here, including family members and contractors.

There are apartment buildings, sports fields, playgrounds and a water park, and an 18- hole golf course with the generals' houses overlooking the greens. There is a "warrior zone" with Xboxes and Playstations, pool tables and dart boards, and a tavern for those old enough to drink.

Starting this August, there will be two elementary schools, a middle school and a high school. A new, 68-bed military hospital to replace the one at Yongsan is close to completion.

That is in addition to the airfield, the tank training areas and firing ranges.

When it is finished, the base will be able to house precisely 1,111 families and a total of about 45,500 people.

But it's not just bigger; it's much more modern than the garrison at Yongsan, Mueller said. It has state-of-the-art communications technology and is a more "hardened" site to protect against a possible North Korean attack.

"Down here we're a little bit further from the action, and that helps buy us some strategic decision space should anything happen," Mueller said. "We've been able to create the facilities needed to keep up with the pace of modern warfare and modern communications technology."

Although the recent concerns about North Korea have centered on its rapidly evolving ballistic missile capability, the Kim regime has a huge amount of conventional artillery lined up on its side of the border that would be able to inflict significant damage on Seoul in a short space of time. It is this concern that has restrained American presidential administrations from launching a preemptive strike on North Korea's nuclear weapons facilities.

But the new Camp Humphreys is out of range of North Korea's multiple rocket launchers, although that hasn't stopped the North Koreans from making threats.

"The larger the U.S. military base is, the more effectively our military can hit its targets," a North Korean military spokesman said this month after the Eighth Army moved here, according to the North's Korean Central News Agency.

Car Talk › Tesla Unveils The World’s Cheapest Fully Electric Car At N11 Million by PDPGuy(op): 10:23pm On Jul 31, 2017
Elon Musk, CEO and co-founder of Tesla, has unveiled the world’s cheapest fully electric car, Tesla Model 3.

The car, which was unveiled over the weekend cost $35,000 (N11,033,750 at official rate) for the standard version, while the long range version goes for $44,000.

The standard version can travel 354 kilometres on a single charge, and when charged for 30 minutes, it can travel for 209 kilometres.

Musk, who handed over 30 Tesla Model 3 to the first set of buyers, said the demand for the vehicle has surpassed supply till 2018. He added that the auto company had taken orders in excess of 500,000 reservations.

“It’s an amazing car, but we’re going to go through at least six months now of manufacturing hell… There’s 10,000 unique components in the car, and production moves as fast as the slowest one,” Musk told reporters.

“Demand is not a challenge for the Model 3… We do everything we can to unsell the car. Have you ever seen an ad for the Model 3?”

The Canadian-American said the car will not need servicing as often as other cars around the world, promising over a million miles before first servicing.

“We’re designing the Model 3 to ideally not require service. The next-generation powertrain is designed to be roughly a million miles between service, aspirationally.

“This is a great day for Tesla. it’s what we’ve been working for. The point of Tesla was to make a great, affordable car that was better than any gasoline car. It was never our goal to just make expensive cars.”

The car is in line with the world’s decision to move away from fossil fuel to electric cars before 2040.
