Politics › Re: Malami: Buhari Won't Sign Electoral Bill If Amended For Selfish Reasons by Penguin2:
We were on our way to having a perfect Electoral Act until Tinubu caused his urchins at NASS to insert Direct Primaries as the only option of nominating candidates.

Buhari rightly rejected the idiotic provision and sent it back to them to rework and allow for more options.

They finally bowed to pressure and removed the controversial idiotic provision only to scuttle the whole thing with another idiotic clause that is meant to serve the interest of one man.

Nigerians should hold Tinubu responsible if we don’t have a new Electoral Act for 2023.

Such a greedy man, ready to throw everything under the table as long as his selfish interest is served.

Obasanjo won which elections? You mean the election was rigged for him in 1999 by the outgoing military and he himself perfected the rigging machine in 2003 by sweeping all the Yoruba states (except Lagos).
Is that what you call winning election? Is that how Democracy is supposed to be practised? I pity you guys for thinking you can just take over Power through any illegitimate means. No wonder NOTHING works in Nigeria. Fools that think they are practising Democracy! huh huh
Oh! So for you, the only way that our democracy will be legitimate is if Tinubu wins?

If Amaechi or any other person wins, then it is illegitimate grabbing of power?

Lol. Who exactly are the 'cabal'? You're a joker and a fantasist.

You think an outgoing Buhari can impose a disaster on a ruling Party, which will destroy the hardwork of many and the future political interest of a lot of players, and sagacious politicians will just follow him blindly?

Buhari is going home 29th May 2023. He is done. If you think many who have political interests beyond that time will destroy themselves for Buhari and his 'cabal' then you are a real sentimental otondo.

Buhari is in a worse situation, for a President who wants to bulldoze his way forward, than GEJ was in around 2014.

GEJ was a President going for a constitutionally legal second term. Many still had reasons to fear him in case he won and could move against them for retribution. Buhari has to leave and become entirely irrelevant per the Nigerian constitution.

Yet we saw the open defiance, mutiny, defections and rebellion Jonathan began coming up against in 2014 all the way to 2015. This eventually killed the PDP at the centre. It was proof politics is about permanent interest. One thing you sentimental Igbos cannot comprehend.

Let us see the miracle Buhari and his 'cabal' want to perform that will make many APC chieftains, grassroot champions and bigwigs destroy themselves and condem their own future into the political wilderness of Nigeria.
So in your estimation and analysis, you are supposing that politicians and forces will align behind Tinubu over the candidate of a seating president who controls all state apparatuses and commands the Armed Forces?

So you do not think that politicians will also think about the possibility of the candidate of the president winning and they have jeopardized their future by openly going against him?

Or in your thinking, there are no other possibilities in the contest? The only possible thing is Tinubu’s victory? Is that the level your understanding could bring you?

I can bet my 2 balls that those people weren’t invited to that place for Tinubu. If anyone had told them they were coming for Tinubu, they won’t come.

They came for Magnus Abe but for political reasons and to score cheap points and get money from Tinubu, they are labeling them as Tinubu supporters.

Same thing happened in Kano when someone invited 2000 Imams to pray against Nigeria’s many challenges only for someone to take their pictures and say they were praying for Tinubu and they had to issue a statement to refute the claim.

If anybody believes a Rivers state indigene will vote for Tinubu over Amaechi, then that person is the biggest fool to have ever breathed oxygen.

Dear sir, even when he fought Senator Abe, he was the one in charge of APC Exco even up to the national Exco were Giadom worked for him to scatter the Exco under HE Oshiomhole.
If after the manner Sen Abe factions tackle him and made APC lose in Rivers State, you still underestimate him then you are asking APC to gamble losing the Presidency.

PMB has repeatedly insisted that the parties flagbearer will be determined by the party at its primaries. The state Governors are the engine room of APC and unfortunately, HE Amaechi has no single strong ally among them.

Banking on PMB to order state Governors to tell their delegates to vote for him is not the reality on ground. If it's because of the turban in Daura, it doesn't matter because HE Okorocha had his own too few days ago and does not matter.

Look at the reality on ground. It's not that I am against his person, it's the reality that he has not worked hard to build the necessary alliance even in his Rivers State let alone SS or nationwide. That's why he will likely lose in Rivers in a general election and lose APC primaries even against someone like OUK.
You don’t compare the event of Amaechi trying to install a governor in Rivers with when Amaechi is a presidential flagbearer of APC for instance.

Forces will align for him.

Nobody would want to be in the bad book of a potential president.

Let me tell you, if Amaechi is APC presidential candidate, Rivers state people might even vote PDP as governor and vote APC in the presidential election. Same thing will likely happen in all of Southsouth and southeast.

And with Buhari support, Amaechi will sweep the north even if PDP fields a northerner.

He should just convince APC Rivers first.

In APC Rivers State alone, Senator Abe's faction of APC don't see eye to eye with him which led to Amaechi's political relegation into opposition just after his tenure and the defeat of APC in Rivers) and delegates from neighbouring states like Abia(where OUK who is contesting) or SS states like Edo (where Oshiomhole he used his protege to scatter his Exco is still in charge), Delta (Omo Agege who wants to contest for Delta governorship and need broader and stronger political platform in APC ), Akwa Ibom (where Akpabio is contesting too) and Cross Rivers first( where Prof Ayade is new and yet to disclose his plans ) won't vote for him in the primaries wink

Sincerely, If HE Amaechi really wanted to win delegates, he should not be in this political isolation. He is a loner and will lose even in his Rivers State if the election is conducted today or tomorrow.

He can't even guarantee votes from his state delegates during the primaries let alone at the General election in a Rivers State where HE Wike has repeatedly beaten him.

APC can't even win Rivers State let alone the SS if he is presented in an election the SW will give a protest vote against APC if it there gives its ticket to any other zone apart from the SW.
He need not convince Rivers APC any more because Rivers APC is now in his pocket.

Did you not hear that APC inaugurated Emeka Beke as APC chairman in Rivers?

Whose faction is Emeka Beke?

And even if Amaechi was to lose Rivers delegates, you and I know that if Buhari wants him delivered as APC candidate, that’s the end.

I’m not going to bore you with long epistle. I will be concise and straight to the point.

So one of the presidential hopefuls for the 2023 general election is the Honorable Minister of Transport, Rt Hon. Chibuike Romtimi Amaechi (though he has not declared).

Some have speculated he might be Buhari’s secret candidate especially with his recent turbaning by the Daura Emirate.

Now, away from secret candidate and turbaning, let me enumerate for you, why the man Amaechi might be APC’s most suitable candidate for 2023.

1. HE IS A FOUNDATION MEMBER
One of the arguments that some supporters of some certain interest in APC has always used against some presidential aspirants like David Umahi and Orji Uzor Kalu, is that these men are not foundation members of the party but just defected when they saw the party had won power. To them, those men do not qualify to sick APC ticket while some other people that laboured to build the party and financed it will be deprived of it. Well, that argument won’t work on Amaechi because Amaechi was the leader of the 5 PDP governors that joined APC then as New-PDP. Not only did he join the APC, it is believed that he also made a lot of financial commitments and has twice been the Director General of the party’s presidential campaigns. So, whatever stake that any interest in APC claims to have, Amaechi equal has it and that is non-contestible.

2. HE ANSWERS FOR SOUTHSOUTH CLAMOUR TO COMPLETE THEIR TENURE
One of the distant voices that has been heard in the discourse of 2023, has been the fact that the Southsouth part of the country still has 4 years of its presidential tenure to complete since President Jonathan could not win re-election after 4 years of his original tenure. Although , like I said, this clamour may not have been as pronounced as many other clamours, but it has been made regardless and that is what an Amaechi presidency will answer to; since he is from the Southsouth .

3.THE CLAMOUR FOR IGBO PRESIDENCY
As 2023 elections draw closer, one of the loudest and most valid agitation is that of Igbo presidency in general and Nigerian President of southeast extraction in particular. All Nigerians of conscience know that this agitation is valid, and for the continued peaceful coexistence of the Nigerian project, it is imperative that it is addressed. Now, that’s why Amaechi comes in. While somebody like Nyesom Wike has told the world he is not Igbo, Amaechi has consistently insisted that “nobody can deny me of my Igboness”. He has always adorned his traditional Isiagu dress when occasion allows it, in identification with his Igbo culture. Now, while Nigerians are skeptical about handing power over to an Igbo man from the southeast, such fears might not exist for Amaechi. Why?

Because an Igbo man of Southsouth has never gone through the denial, punishment, deprivations and subjugation that has been meted to the Igbo man of southeast. The implication is that the anger level in their hearts are different.

While the Igbo man of southeast might harbour resentment for the Nigerian state with desire for revenge, the Igbo man in southeast is likely not going to harbour resentment in his heart.

So, if the agitation for Igbo presidency is something that must be addressed, but the rest of Nigeria is skeptical about handing power over to a man from Southeast, the closest solution to the impasse is Amaechi.

With Amaechi, all that would have to be done is to conscientize with Ndigbo to settle for “Igbo Presidency” rather than insist on “Nigerian President of Southeast Extraction” and trust me it would sell.

4. AMAECHI IS DETRIBALIZED AND A BRIDGE BUILDER
One of the most reoccurring arguments against most Igbo presidential aspirants is the fact that they are tribal and are not bridge builders. Well, not Amaechi; because I do not think there’s any part of Nigeria that has anything against Amaechi especially when it comes to tolerance for Nigerians of other ethnic groups. What am I even saying, there’s a ‘Rotimi’ in his name, Remember? Dude is even a Yoruba. Lol.

5. AGE
One of the issues in the front burner of the 2023 political discourse is the fact that we need young, agile and capable people to occupy political positions. Yes. Aso Rock should not be converted to retirement home for old men to go and be resting their bones. At 57 years of age, Amaechi fits perfectly into that yardstick.

6. PROVEN RECORD OF ACHIEVEMENTS
An unbiased assessment of the Buhari regime would throw up Rotimi Amaechi as one of, if not, the brightest and most performing ministers in the Buhari government. The transformation happening in the rail sector is visible to all Nigerians. But that’s not all, before he became minister, he was governor of Rivers State for 8 years and if you ask those who witnessed his administration in Rivers, they’d tell you he has been one of the best things to happen to Rivers state. So, aside that fact that an Amaechi presidency will answer to several other agitations and inerests, we are also going to be having a man with proven records of achievements in public service.

7. NO TAINT OF CORRUPTION
“I don’t like money”. That is one of the most popular statements that has been made by Amaechi. While that may have been metaphorical and does not really translate to him being a saint, he seems to not have any case of financial malfeasance to his name so far despite how long he has been in public service. So if APC’s aim is to give Nigerians somebody who is not corrupt, then Amaechi is the man.

I promised it was not gonna be long but it did.

But there you have it. What are you going to add and what are you going to remove?

Penguin is a bird of reason!
