ops:
Ha, monsieur pennywise, glad to have you on the programme grin grin.seems you've taken a brief interlude from the stock market thread.
I agree with you as per the age and maturity thing, they really are two different things.
Ops you should know I left that place a long time ago. Nothing I hate more than collective self conceit. Today's objective was to rattle the place a little bit and let the first mugu who comes calling get it.

OpeLovely:
I agree with y'all but everyone does have an ulterior motive for dating either good or bad but in this case, we have Aristoism where they go out of their way for young girls because of myths like she's tight down below or she can make a man's blood become warm.

Its crazy!
Please don't make me get in to lurid details about the physiology of desirable sex otherwise people will say pennywise is a queer human being. Different things appeal to different guys and no two girls are ever the same. To some it may be something as insignificant as juice consistency.
Romance › Re: Dating Younger Girls! by Pennywise(m): 4:57pm On Mar 14, 2008
A girl can be 18 yet be outwardly matured and have a mental age that is twice that. You can be dating a supposedly educated 36yr old yet you have to explain your every joke. This is the dilemma (one of moral crisis) guys have to face sometimes while dating. Generally I advise that if it doesnt look right, dont do it. For every socially acceptable age there is a suitable girl. Except of course if you find yourself in a social milieu where options are very limited. like you are a Nigerian living in Lithuania.
Investment › Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by Pennywise(m): 9:38am On Mar 14, 2008
I like to say hello to everyone on stock market tips.

I was having a ball in a separate thread having decided on a terminal leave of this one when someone hinted that there is a storm brewing here and so decided to have a look. Unfortunately the storm (an assymetrical one it was) has since blown away but the terrain and thread character hasn't changed much.

I tried to examine the anatomy of the root-cause of the storm and was able to come away with one deduction only and that is sycophancy. At first I decided it was a Nigerian cultural thing but that didnt wash. Maybe its a nairaland thing, hell no. I have been in other threads. So it has to be sth peculiar to this thread. But is this nauseous disposition really necessary in an anonymous forum? I think not.

Sycophancy presents in ways other than embarrassing praise worship. Like waging unsolicited proxy battles when the individual in question is not mentally handicapped. Which brings to mind the issue of a certain famous warrior who had successfully prosecuted many of life battles and was a recent member of this thread. He must have felt slighted that the courtesy being extended to him was less than the praise worship folks younger than his older children get. He is a gentleman and couldnt have put it in as much words.

It is very easy for someone who is not given to praise singing to be seen as arrogant in an environment of praise singers. Some unwary members of this thread who in the past many months have set the tone for discussions have themselves become victims of these sycophants. Humility is a virtue.

This is an anonymous forum. Anybody who prostrates for me risks getting kicked in the face. I don't need it. Its a different thing when you interact outside. Then I will have to insist on my due and if necessary take it by force. I hope the war hero gets a change of heart. This thread needs people like you. I see you have tried to obliterate your foot prints but they still linger.

Secondly I am surprised that all the illegal instruments of war that were deployed during combat was tolerated by Seun. I have seen a noticeable change of behaviour by seun since some one toyed with the idea of a fatwa in one of the religious threads. Or has he gone on Awol?

I also noticed that PE ratio is becoming more and more irrelevant in the choices we make. Up naija.
Romance › Re: Is It A Tradition For A Married Man To Have A Girlfriend? by Pennywise(m): 5:31pm On Mar 13, 2008
reality4us:
One of the main reasons has to do with economic factor. A situation where most families find it very hard to eke out a living not to talk of extras and they have daughters that aspire to further their education. Such daughters will easily fall prey to men who are readily available with cash to help them in school. I have come accross countless undergraduate girls who say that they are training themselves in school. Who actually do the training but married men.
Looks like a healthy symbiotic relationship if you ask me. The word prey may have been misplaced.

In as much as I hate to, but I have to say that your comments are not only cheap but cheapening. You have in one shameless swoop typical of one with poor parental upbringing and background maligned everyone who has contributed on this thread. You will withdraw this statement and tender an unreserved apology to every single person on this thread at once.

How does your going to the stock market with a few peanuts and approaching stock market tips on how to double it make you better than anyone else? The thread in question lost its appeal to some a long time ago when you have to sift through 70 pages to find one single thing that remotely make sense. Yet everyone comes away with a false laughable sense of self worth because they posted something on stock market tips.

If you look at it with a bit of common sense you will find that your statement is not only derisive of contributors here but very presumptous of yourself. You are a lady I believe perhaps a little more modesty in your communication will do for you.

You will understand if I called you hurricanewendy and tell you to calm down.

A lot of what you said above has been said so many times on this thread but maybe not in as much words or emotion (which borders this time on the volcanic apparently for maximal effect). I felt pained because all that wasted energy could have produced at least 2 beautiful stock analyses.

Speaking seriously now, I am constrained because I don't see how I can internalize this reply and respond to it without undermining the essence of my presence on Nairaland which is to enjoy myself maximally while I work.

I will respond to one statement only not minding the fact that it was personal, way over the line and uncalled for
If, as you seem to suggest, these things are indeed frivolous, is it then safe to assume that if your wife was an adulteress, a control-freak, and at the same time insensitive to your needs, you would still be FAITHFULLY (and note the emphasis on “faithfully” here) married to her?
. You can twist faithfully married up and down but the intent is clear looking at the issue you 'just have to address'. For the records I will not divorce my wife even in the most unlikely scenario she is unfaithful. And This is a certified dude talking to you.

Windywendy you fall my hand for this one well well o.

Windy
Re-read my posts on the subject again -- the aspects where I was serious as opposed to just yabbing
This is a serious matter you don't joke over. You should know some people look up to you. I don't mean the get rich quick sycophantic young men at any time ready to excavate raw dung with their head for killer stocks but responsible young ladies looking soon to get married.

The problem with most guys is that they're quick to dismiss the things that appeal to a lady's senses as flimsy, and are also quick to pull out the "it's not in our culture" card
Thank God for the education, fashion, technology etc the west has brought. But we need to have the common sense to take what is good and leave or ignore aspects of their culture that is undesireable. A situation where a lady who is not even 35yrs has been married and divorced 3 times all for frivolous reasons like he is a control freak, insensitive to my needs, caught him cheating etc. I had to use divorce to bring the point home but it can happen as it does in relationships and the girl goes through life not knowing what quite happened when she attains 40.

Introspective or not, the bottom line is that he needs to communicate with her in a way that she understands and appreciates. Same applies to her. It's all about the other person in the relationship and how we can please them to the best of our ability. That's how successful marriages are made out. We can all be any personality-type we want, but the bottomline remains that in relating with someone else, you need to keep your audience in mind. In the case of the marriage relationship, one needs to keep the spouse's needs at the forefront of their thinking in delivering whatever message needs to be delivered -- in a way that the other person understands and appreciates.
Look, this guy has been understanding pleasing and selfless enough to sustain a 4 year relationship while the girl spent time dreaming of a fabulous proposal she read up or aisha her friend may have intimated her of. The guy should have deferred the m-word another 4 years.

Lesson? Keep it natural and sensible.
Romance › Re: Funny Marriage Proposal by Pennywise(m): 10:50am On Mar 07, 2008
'I have finally decided to marry you'. This guy it seems is thinking in native language while expressing self in English. Considering the impressive educational credentials of the girl he has dated for 4 years it makes this scenario unlikely.

More likely he is a deep thinking highly introspective individual who has been humiliated by a girl who ought to be appreciative of his committment and devotion to her. Those of you who think they have kissed and made-up forget it because his tolerance level has just been lowered on account of her unbecoming act. Her rope just got shorter and thinner. Some say the guy is proud.Pride is good cause a guy without pride is one without shame. Run from him.

Blacklion, you and AJ have brought home the finer points of should I say peri-marital relationship to some of our dreamy-eyed young and not so young gu rls.

Windywendy always right on the mark with stock choices, but you missed this one by a loooooooong shot.

Business › Re: Which Bank Is The Most Customer Friendly In Nigeria? by Pennywise(m): 1:35am On Mar 05, 2008
Zenith
All the responses so far tells a lot about the position of Zenith. A bank that used to pride itself as the best. Are they still holding on to their half million naira minimum account opening nonsense? I guess not.The insecurity in the banking sector some years ago led a lot of people to this bank in preference to the usually sloppy services in old generation banks, forcing many to tolerate Zenith. With this bank, staff arrogance is standard, infact the norm and I mean right from the gate. They keep trying to out-do themselves.

Not sure what to do with my account in that bank. Once a year I print out an already prepared account reactivation statement and have it forwarded. This is a bank that had so much promise.

Intercontinental
This bank seem to emphasize the human aspect of customer relations more than many. There have been instances of inappropriate conduct by staff in my interaction with the bank, but these were always satisfactorily and promptly addressed. They have my vote.

With other banks like UBA, ECO bank you are more likely to have the feeling that this is Nigeria.

You could never get me interested in football and I am NO SISI. My number one passion from childhood is professional boxing and lately UFC. I even did a bit of amature activity in my late teens but was quick to realize I wasnt going to make much money from it. Other combat sports like Judo, karate, taekwando not my thing.

Boxing can be intense. There is very little place for luck (sucker punch) and punishment for laxity is instantaneous and can be devastating. So much better than watching a couple of guys running up and down the field.

SO NOT TRUE. A man feeling inadequate has nothing to do with his upbringing. and besides, how would she have seen any of that?? they most probrobably didnt grow up together.

I think you should be strong for him now. . . . .he will come around. Just be strong.
You sound like a Nigerian lawyer trying hard to make a case when e don get as e be. They will usually take bits of statement out of context in an attempt to get the judge confused. Guess who gets confused in the end.

Feeling inadequate and trying to do something about it is one thing. But feeling inadequate and running away from obligations has one name. It is called irresponsibility. Secondly, If you can't conceptualize the kind of childhood a prospective spouse had but you can do same for most of the important public figures you know, then there is a real problem.

Now if this poster is able to turn her life and circumstance around and Mr Low-self esteem comes, things might be ok for a while. Then he is going to become envious and abusive. This guy should remain locked out. I will give the same advise to my sister or my daughter as the case may be.

@fredericka
What a situation you got yourself in to girl. That is for a husband to say you can go on and let some other guy look after you and his own children.

You should have seen the signs before marriage. They are always there if you had cared to look. These guys are usually pampered and spoilt growing up. They whine and whine and they sulk (unnecessarily). Everybody owe them something but they have no duty to anyone. Dont get me wrong. These same guys don't mind selling the family's most prized asset or borrow money to give you a treat so they can get in between your legs. They just want to get laid. Sooner than later this is the end result. It is for this reason it just might help to listen to a senior (not more than 20% in-put because they sometimes have undisclosed, irrelevant reasons which don't help matters) when choosing a partner in a marriage.

Well all that is passed. What you must do now is rehabilitate yourself. Almondjoy suggests self empowerment through education to which I agree. You have to face the world. Once you get the certificate with a bit of luck and a little make-up, provided you chose your parents well you will see how rapidly doors will open for you while husband becomes somebody else's burden.
