I hope this reply hasn't come too late. First of all don't let the negative replies you've read to your post affect you. You've got more courage than most the moment you decided to ask for help. This is the way I see it. Get some balls! If you are searching then begin with yourself. Sit down and find out which type of men the women you are looking for are attracted to. Then make a conscious effort to be that MAN. It won't be easy but like I said get some balls. Pennywise has a point, but don't get a job just because you want a girl. Get a job because you like to excel in your field. A woman has to be with you because of the way you make her feel, and nothing else. Never try to impress women with nothing but your masculine power that comes from within. I said it twice already so i'll say it one more time. Get some BALLS!
Wise_1 you have spoken wisely. But if u begin show balls without money power people go say na craze man. But with money you will hear things like 'he is so cute'. Any utterance you make becomes either prophetic or sexy. No aphrodisiac works better than money. Even some guys can't get a hard on when broke.

If you're looking for intelligent girls in Nigeria, you can forget it. Cause you will never find them. If you have no job, try and get one and work very, very hard. Intelligent girls will come looking for you. Infact if you work really hard enough the problem might be keeping them away.

Surely you dont want to risk getting stoned to ---- because alhaji almondjoy thinks you and pennywise have something going!

People get convicted all the time up north for all kinds of strange things and are handed bizzare sentences. The reason a lot of these sentences dont get carried out is because of the civility of the south and what is left of its influence on the federal government and also our over-worked NGOs. Otherwise you will have a whole population of mutilated people with one leg, one eye, one arm, one nose etc. Another area where the north has to be grateful to the south this time for saving it from itself.

love that! Kiss Please do not drive back the men oooooooooooooooooooooh! Shocked There is already a grave shortage of them in the South and the competition is getting too stiff amongst the women. Just keep "a few good men" please! And they are flocking to the south for real.
. . . . . .
We get men plenty for south. Our women just need to be a bit more tolerant of one another which is a virtue the northern women have always had.

badaru1:
I don't know why Nigerians waste their precious time dicussing tribal issues. Mismanagement of The country is not carried out by northern leaders alone. Take a trip to the north especially kebbi, sokoto, kano, bauchi, gombe, kogi to see for yourselves what the governors were able to do with the small alocation given to them from federation account. While the governors in the other part of the country are busy either figthing legal battle at tribunal or buying houses in europe or america. Of the former governors arrested by efcc, how many of them are from the north. while states like bayelsa and delta are getting arround 10 billion per month, state in the north get an average of 1 billion per month. So ask your leaders what they are doing with your money
There are no tribal issues here. No body mentioned any tribe.

Your post seem to suggest that southerners should forfeit their birthright because some Governors stole money. If you are not a northerner you surely think like one.How logical.

If things were done properly in a federation no northern state should get one billion naira (about 10million dollars) per month. What is their combined annual contribution to the national purse. Now if you take away oil money do you think you can tell the difference from an aerial view standpoint between northern Nigeria, Niger republic and Chad? I don't think so. In any case those roads 90% of them were tarred by the federal government after deductions had been made for states.

Secondly, rather than practice true federalism the north through the military adopted a unitary system of Government. They have systematically diverted resources from the south to the North by creating sundry states and local Governments for them away from the initial three regions at independence. Thus by the articles of the Nigerian constitution at Independence the current revenue sharing formula is warped. Another reason why no northern state should get any where near N1billion in a month.

One can go on and on and on. But its no use because Justice in the form of a free economy is gradually coming the way of the south. There will be unprecedented prosperity and abundance in the south and the laziness of the north will be rewarded with more poverty and abjectness. They will flock to the south in their numbers. We will take in the women and drive back the men.

Nigeria: Northern Region - Below the Horizon

Leadership (Abuja)

COLUMN
22 February 2008
Posted to the web 22 February 2008

Capt Daniel Omale
Abuja

To me, Northern Nigeria starts from Kwara, Kogi, Benue and Taraba States upward. Any state below these boundaries is considered as Southern Nigeria, irrespective of tribe, ethnic group or religious affiliation. The same goes for the Northern part of Nigeria. God naturally divided the country into two spheres with so many differences, like the climatic system, vegetation, economic disposition and social orientation.

By this definition, I am a full Northerner by virtue of my state of origin, place of birth and place of abode. When I travel from my state, Kogi, all the way to my home in Kaduna, I can hardly differentiate people's orientation and social behaviours. Those who carved-out, the names of Middle Belt and core North, did so for their own political and personal interests. The same people use religion and ethnicity to create segregation, which has ultimately established little cohesion or synergy in driving home a collective economic prosperity for the North as a whole. Each state, among the 19 Northern states, is economically backward.

A typical Northern politician or" big man" is more concerned about his political and economic relevance than the economic well being of his people. A Northerner is individualistic, selfish and power drunk in economic endowment, power acquisition and utilisation. Obtaining power and authority, which are mirage in nature, have confused the minds of most top Northern elite to the absolute detriment of the North and its indigenes. Community developments and social responsibilities are replaced by lordship and domination. Money is power and authority, and education is less relevant than power and authority in our myopic minds. Illiteracy is our tradition, while political domination and financial relevance are goals to attain in a lifetime.

The North is empty economically, backward academically, and visionless. While there have been more Northern heads of state in Nigeria, there are less economic developments in the North than anywhere else in the country. After the late Sir Ahmadu Bello, who was committed to the development of the North in both academic and economic objectives, subsequent Northern leaders, if any, were more interested in self-aggrandising and affluence.

The North is suffering from what psychologists define as "learned helplessness."

The only Northern businessman that has sustained, at least, 2000 employees in our contemporary existence today is Aliko Dangote. I challenge any one to name another person from any of the nineteen states. In the South, I can name over 20 people with such investments.

Unfortunately, I am only competent to speak on only a sector- transportation, and in the transportation-- strictly on aviation issues

Throughout the life span of Nigeria Airways, more than 90 % of the employees were from the South, despite the so-called, federal character, a system that was used to lure Northern-below- standards into the scheme of things, as a refection of the dichotomy in our unity.

In every sector of our economy, the North is in the valley. From education, health-care, agriculture, financial and transportation sectors- Northern Nigeria is at the back seat, ironically and unfortunately, with Northern drivers. The North has driven the vehicle of economic development off the road, and it is really stuck in the mud far away from Northern destinations.

When president Obasanjo woke up one morning to commence his "reform" of the aviation sector, his prime advisers on aviation and privatisation were Northerners (whether the president listened to them or not, is another issue entirely). The reform, in my own opinion, was to slice northern Nigeria off the frequent flier program. Nigeria Airways was sold; sadly, it was the only airline that linked the whole country together. Southern investors were called to establish a new airline as our flag carrier-a partnership with South African Airways failed because, a South African radio made a scornful remark about Obasanjo. President Obasanjo personally invited Richard Branson to start an airline in Nigeria with private placement of shares from Southern business investors.

Kema Chikwe, Aborishade and Fani Kayode, the former ministers of aviation during Obasanjo's regime, flooded the Ministry of Aviation, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) and the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) with their people, while flushing out most Northern employees in the name of reform.

There are five airlines in Nigeria now: Arik Air, Bellview, Aero, Chanchangi and Virgin Nigeria; only Chanchangi Airline is based in the North, and it is the least in terms of operational strength and equipment values of all the five. There are two epileptic airlines, Kabo and IRS. Although they are in need of financial support, but would not accept partnership from investors to strengthen their liquidity and management skills.

The four airlines based in the South have strong investors and are supported by their regional "heavy weights" through direct financial investments and other physical and operational assistance. When Bellview Airlines' B737-200 enroute from Lagos to Abuja crashed about three years ago, it resumed flying activities almost immediately, with the then minister of aviation spearheading the support and defending the airline in its operational capability. Chanchangi Airline that did not have any incident was grounded along with Sosoliso that crashed in Port Harcourt for reasons best known to the former president. Every one watched with dismay at the president's action to ground Chanchangi, but no one dared to challenge the injustice.

It is highly interesting to note that the first commercial aircraft to come to Nigeria landed at Kano Airport, and the pioneer of private airlines operation in Nigeria, was Alhaji Adamu Dankabo, the owner of Kabo Air. Despite Nigeria Airways' objection and the then Ministry of Aviation's lukewarm approval and permit for Kabo Travels and Tours to operate scheduled flights, Dankabo changed the face of private airlines ownership in Nigeria for good. This effort by Dankabo should have been followed by airline vibrancy in the North, but instead, the effect created a big boom in Southern Nigeria.

Transportation is the backbone of any economic development in any region; there are no regular air links to any part of the North, except Abuja. Kaduna is entirely at the mercy of Chanchangi Airline while Sokoto, Kano, Maiduguri, Yola, Jos, Minna and Ilorin seldom have flights. The rail system as we all know has been buried in the dungeon for the past 15 years and it will take another ten years, at least, for the North to sight a functional cargo or passenger train operating northern routes.

Many airlines in Nigeria have gone bankrupted but the effect of this bankruptcy is felt more in the North, which is so vast in land size, but yet, grossly neglected by its own people to effectively air-link the region.

It is quite interesting to see that the emerging young Northern businessmen are more excited about having private jets as a sign of economic arrival and affluence among peers, as opposed to developing a strong business base with future prospects. Most Southern business people with private jets can boast of a prolonged business growth and survival with a clear cut pedigree of their business derivation. Apart from Aliko Dangote, every northern businessman today, is comfortable with chasing contracts and depending on a known godfather in government. Once the godfather is out of office, the business withers. The North needs a strong manufacturing and agricultural base supported by a dependable transportation system.

Through this medium, we wish to praise the only relative of a Northern financial institution, Unity bank plc, for their encouragement and support towards Kabo Airlines and their interest in promoting Northern youths, but Unity Bank alone cannot be the only Northern affiliated bank in this dispensation. We need more banks to originate from the north to back more airlines and more businesses. We also need more viable Northern airlines to fly the northern skies.

While we support the governments of Zamfara and Bauchi in their views to establish cargo hubs in the respective states, our advice is that, they must also endeavour to lure foreign cargo flights into both airports through a strong partnership agreement that will enhance the economic growth of the states, or they will end up like Katsina State, which has a beautiful, well renovated, but inactive airport. Job creation through this arrangement cannot be over emphasised. Bauchi State government has started in the right direction by sending 20 of its indigenes for commercial pilot training. This effort is laudable since there are no more bursaries and scholarships to support our northern youths in schools again.

The North has become an appendage of the South in every facet of economic development. Who can lead us out of this storm?

Northern Nigeria is at a cross road between situational awareness and economic dependency on Southern institutions, established by the Southerners. This article is not about sectionalism, discrimination and prejudice, but is about reaffirming the realties on ground. That is why the coming conference, being organised by LEADERSHIP NEWSPAPERS GROUP on de-industrialisation of Northern Nigeria in all its ramifications next week, February 27 and 2008, is right on spot!
I am really not sure of the objective of the poster of the above article written by this rather curious person (Captain Daniel Omale). In general one tries to avoid heavy stuff on Nairaland like Religion and Nigerian politics but I guess this one got the better part of me.

The article to say the least is provocative and offensive to any right thinking objective observer of Nigerian politics and should never have been brought to a forum of reasonable people like Nairaland (Yes!). This mentality of pulling the south down so the North can catch up dominated the thinking of Northern Nigerian Leaders and their puppets right from Independence.

They were hugely successful at this because the economy through the politics of the time was firmly in their hands. Rather than concentrate on governance, Government took firm control of all aspects of the economy ranging from telecommunication, Power, Petroleum even the services. Barely literate northerners were sent to oversee these companies from Lagos to Warri to Port Harcout, Enugu and Calabar. They in turn formed colonies of mediocre half baked technocrats building mos'ques with Government money on Company grounds. Even when these companies started failing one after the other with huge debts despite Government funding, the powers that be read Northern oligachy did not deem it fit to let go of these companies so as not to upset the percieved equilibrium which they had created.

The above state of affairs unfortunately led to other self-perpetuating problems like corruption, monumental suffering, abjectness, desperation and notoriety of (mostly Southern) Nigerians all over the world. Therefore in trying to lift up the North, Nigeria fell flat on its face. The North would have fared a lot better if every segment was allowed to develop at its pace.

Indeed this section of the country (North) has been disadvantaged historically on account of widespread illiteracy, poverty, disease (frequent outbreaks of meningitis, polio is rampant) religious bigotry, absence of economically meaningful mineral/oil, desertification.etc. But none of these is the South doing. While southerners out of sheer desire to survive took to Industry and Education the Northerners held on to the military as a means of domination. Unfortunately they fail to realize that ultimately the military is dead without a sound economy and that a sound economy can spin off a formidable military might in no time.Southern oil money and Lagos taxes (including those on alcohol) remain the mainstay of the sustenance of northern (sharia) states without which there will be complete collapse of Government and anarchy in all these states.

It is the natural order of things I believe that when things get too bad they soon begin to get better. The series of privatization we had under Obasanjo even though they were imperfectly executed at least they have freed up utilizable Government funds that can now be deployed for other purposes. Unfortunately Yardua has refused to go ahead with these privatizations and have chosen to make himself a willing tool in the hands of the Northern Oligarchy who are determined to turn back the hand of the clock.

This Leadership Newspaper is an illusion. It will die a natural death within 3 years. So will any Nigerian newspaper with a northern agenda that fails to embrace the truth. And the captain from Kogi that is deluding himself that he is a notherner, next time there is a riot in Kano and the people feel it is time to sacrifice a few southerners, he should go and identify himself with them.

Car was actually purchased by a Ghanian based in the US, he saw it on nairaland and he is intent on sending it to the actual buyer at home (Ghana). Quite honestly I don't see what all the hullaboo is! - people have choices!. You could always get a camry in Lagos; you could also get on the plane and come see it before paying (an added cost of N280,000.00 for ticket shouldn't be an issue). There is a third alternative - you could have a close friend/relative come see and purchase it like the Ghanian did. This distrust and unbelief is beyond me!!. I have been selling cars long before I came to offer some on Nairaland and I sell cars regardless of Nairaland's response. Nobody can force a horse to drink at the riverside!

You mean you are able to get this car through (Nigeria) customs with N400k? And wait a minuite, the dude has not seen the car in Nigeria yet he has made payment? Am sorry but I tend to be more rigorous as a buyer in transactions like this. And I can tell you that my frustration at not being able to get this car has nothing to do with how I feel.

aftadocean:
Food for thought for all:

1. Transcorp is not a Giant. Reason; A Giant describes something that went through the normal process of growth but grew beyond normal, bearing in mind it had at its disposal the same measure of resources as its counterpart or peer.

2. If you are an ardent follower of the trends in the stockmarket, say you have been following the Nigerian stock market for the past four to five years, you would have noticed something:those stocks that appeared to have no future back then are playing big now eg Afroil,Eterna oil and Afrprint to mention a few. The lesson ; Every stock has a season of stagnation, retrogression and a season of bounty.

Having said this, Transcorp will still experience a season of bounty. I know this might sound funny, but that is the beauty of the business environment. When I look at a stock like AP today, I really marvel at what a single move by one person can do. I invested in transcorp and The truth is if I had more money, I would buy more.

PATIENCE my friends is what y'all need to play in any stock market. The price at which transcorp is trading on the floor today is the real price of transcorp, and might even get lower, on the otherhand, virtually all stocks on the floor of the NSE are overpriced. An average Nigerian investor follows the crowd, Stocks don't work that way. Remember NASCON? One day trading and bla bla bla, where is it today? It will still pick up o! but I can tell you that all those that went to the floor to buy that day are short term investors, and so are not too happy with the way the stock has turned out.

Last year, Quite a lot of people went to borrow money to buy FIRST bank. What happened? Money was returned massively at an extremely lower interest rate than the interst rate to borrow. Talk about bandwagon effect. Right now, everyone is doing insurance(Laugh!). Well for those who are just buying into the insurance sector, Pray and Be patient, 'because all those insurance stocks are overpriced.

For all transcorp investors, my advice is to be patient.
When Transcorp wakes up from its coma, we will know. And I will be among the first to come and take profit. In the mean time let the action on the floor continue.

The one in the pics you showed I believe is Ford escape the smallest of the Ford suvs that include explorer (medium) and expedition (large). I use '03 Explorer frequently and I can confirm to you that it is indeed heaven on wheels. I prefer Honda accord to Camry and mercedes makes very good cars.

Perfomance is always very secondary to me when I pick a car. Prestige and beauty comes first for any given budget. Right now I am looking at Rover 75 which looks every inch like a Jag save for the emblem. Jag would have been nice but its pricey. [img][/img]

@pennywise and all who blame Yar'adua,
This was a man who wanted to retire from Katsina Govt House to continue his lecturing job, he had no original blueprint for taking Nigeria from her "state of coma". But all of a sudden, he was wooed and rigged into Asorock.
The result is a to-and-from style of government.
However, for now he seems to be winning the hearts of majority of the citizenry by dancing to their tunes even after making public his own plans. Personally, I feel he is ordained to be there for now, that is why he is there. Simple!
Believe me, if this mallam was equipped to satisfactorily discharge a teaching responsibility in a University, then Nigerians will not question his leadership capability.
Business › Re: Transcorp: The Fall Of A Giant? by Pennywise(m): 1:57pm On Feb 19, 2008
As we all get together to pen the online obituary of a giant that never really was, it will be worthwhile to save some thoughts for folks who were unfortunately conned into the Transcorp idea. I fell for it. But fortunately for me, I had no investible funds at the time.

If not for the regular interventions (technical suspension here, full suspension there) and manipulations of its share price, the current price of its share would have been no more than its nominal price of 50k. I understand that it is again in full suspension. For those who believe they can put out a raging fire by pouring (paper) money into it, they are free to go ahead and enjoy the bonfire.

My disappointment sadly is with Yaradua. Nigeria's first and only University graduate president on whom there was so much hope and goodwill. Every policy statement of his has been a tragedy. In the early days of his Government he used to reverse himself. But these days he has found that there is no need while the country gets from bad to worse. If this fellow has his way he will re-nationalize all major coys and take us back to the 70s.

Yeah yabis is good. Fella said so and I believe him. In fact I am tempted to draw fire myself so I can join in the roforofo. But gentlemen and ladies we must call a truce otherwise all threads on Nairaland will end up this way and it will be such a pity. I see a lot of people are nursing old wounds. Please let it heal and let it go.

I will assume we are all Nigerians or at least know Nigeria well enough.Have you ever found yourself on the road minding your own business, you look at your rear view mirror to see an Okada waving his finger menacingly at you and using all kinds of swear words like happened to me this morning. Instinctively you ensure windows are up while you bid your time carefully for the idiot. Instinctively you will respond to these remarks. But we have to look at the big picture sometimes and ask ourselves where this is all leading to. I am probably the least qualified person to say these words but it need to be said. We as young people can have fun on this thread and this forum without necessarily running ourselves down. Let us attempt some form of self censorship before posting is done so that everyone can be part of the fun. Having fun at the expense of others is no fun. I will henceforth personally consider direct derisive jabs on fellow members not funny, disappointing and unfortunate. I hope I have said enough to draw fire on my sorry self. grin grin grin

Perhaps you would have had more answers if title was a bit more creative and the answer to your question wasnt so clearly evident.

I guess everything that need to be said has been said and maybe a little bit more. On your plans to live in a Nigerian village after living all your life in the UK, you need to consider a few more things like the fact that you will have to forfeit your NHS priviledges because being a non contributor you are not entitled to it. Meaning you have to kiss your regular pap smear good bye among other benefits. If Mr pvskc has to remove a trouble-some prostate gland, that will cost him a full Ghana-must-go bag of money.Healthcare is not cheap in Nigeria.

All i'm saying is: devote yourself to fulfilling her emotional needs and your days of complaining about your sexual needs will be gone for good.
This presupposes that all financial issues with wife has been met in full of course. Otherwise I dont see how it will wash especially with the Nigerian woman whom Hotfunmi has confidently declared has no obligation to love you!!! It is however not to pick hole in your evaluation which was very well woven.

On the issue of reassurance from the man. Action like they say speaks louder than words. If a woman constantly require the reassurance of a man in a marriage, then she is probably not fit or suited for it. It is for this reason I advise those with female children to imbue a sense of self worth and pride in their children.

Those lines by moneybag were well said. But no one formula works for everybody. If I start sending valentine messages now, the wife is going to think I have either lost it or am being controlled. Yeah chauvinistic male pig.But with me everyday is christmas for Mrs.

Denicest, you have to stop being abusive towards women so you don't scare them from this thread. Because we need them. Stretch the imagination a bit and think of a world without women. One big dry world that even you cannot have.

This discourse is hardly about superiority between man and woman. Neither is it about systemic oppression of women. There have been numerous NGOs created by opportunity seeking folks that have tried to wipe up sentiments and create imaginary divide so they can reap from it. It hasn't worked any where from Saudi to North America back to Africa. So ambitious folks like Hotfunmi need to think twice as they toy with pet NGO.

I love my man enough to do it even when I don't feel like it and when I'm not up for it,he is man enough to wait a couple of hours more
Good communication is the key.
@Babyosisi. Sodomy connotes same sex rectal activity. I am not sure there is a name yet for what you mean. You can always extrapolate though.

@Hotfunmi

You have to be hot for real, defending the indefensible the way you've done. But you need to note that no marriage contract is complete without joining the man and woman as one. And the man being the head of the family, it goes without saying----

Marital rape is nothing but an aberration of terms. I am happy some of our girls/ladies here have been bold enough to repudiate this. The access that marriage grants the man is unconditional and non-negotiable.

When the concept of marital rape hit the media some years ago, it was something to laugh about. Tragically some people have gone ahead to legislate on this and criminalize a few unfortunate innocent men. It seems the west has gone too far forward that the only way to go now is backward. If this continues a stage will come where you have to seek a written consent before love-making just to be sure.

If I am a judge the woman will have a case if only she proves that the husband used a baseball bat instead of his d**k.Otherwise its domestic violence without any reference to the genitals over which the man and not the judge has the sole right to adjudicate. The woman of course has a right to correct this. It is called divorce. Our ladies so look before you jump in. It may be fun to say 'waow my dude is a beast in bed' during the occasional pre-marital rumpus. Remember marriage is for life.

angry angry angryI just don't understand why people are different from what they are meant to stand for and what they project when they are on a forum like this where everyone is faceless. Pumping and company why do you have nothing good to say about all this sites that are doing a good job inspite of the limitations of operating in that environment. What i perceive your belief system is is not a proponent of tearing down oo.

Pumping and co stop badmouthing these resoureces. Zenitsecurities is a great resource. Who is the authoritative source that makes zenithsecurities wrong. Its wrong to assume that because this are entities you cannot identify individual with, you should run them down. What makes you the authority to comment on zenithsecurities abilities as regards right results. Lets even leave zenith and say you are angry at them because they are not an "NGO" that provides free service, haba if you have any probblem with a small company like nigeriansecurites that are solvoing problems no one has been looking at, why don't you let them know if you find a problem and stop projecting a negative image of them. Please pratice what you depict and speak life.

For your information zenithsecurites if you use them for your trades are darn good. You also don't know of the gallant efforts they are at the forfront of in terms of pushing policy that will help this market and all of us eventually. For your information, they provide better tools than the aptistock and metastock that make you feel like einstein

I also did the right thing by emailing nigeriansecurities of your run down observations. They promptly fixed it and were appreciative of been fed back.

Lets use this forum to engender growth of not only individuals but companies that are at the forefront of bringing efficiency to this market

BUILD UP AND NOT TEAR DOWN

enough said angry angry
Enough not said. You made a useful point, not that I agree with you. The fact that you personalized the issue completely obscured what you were trying to say. Considering the way you came out swinging with your toma-hawk, there is a good chance that you work for Zenith, but then I may be wrong. The point is that if a company is so weak that it cannot survive the most ordinary critical appraisal exemplified by a passing comment on Nairaland, then let it fall-very quickly. Whether it is Zenith or any company. The most villified companies today, including microsoft are among fortune 500. We Nigerians simply have to get used to this.

Sometimes I wonder how people get to read and write without being educated along the way. huh huh huh

It is the facelessness of this forum that makes it possible for YOU to make this kind of irresponsible blanket statement.

On the subject of your post, NO COMMENT.
But you've already commented. What are the options here sincerely? Beat him up? He is probably twice your size. Go to court? Naaaa. You have to shrug it off, be sportsmanly and keep your mind on the koko. This is even better than some cowardly folks experimenting with laughable forms of crude sniping. Better not to heat up the thread.Keep it going.

On the road and without visible security in a 2007 range rover and at 10:30pm any where in Lagos? Come on this guy was begging to be robbed. He doesn't need your sympathy. He probably enjoys the attention.
