Social media commentator Reno Omokri says it is better to elect prisoners than handing another mandate to President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019. Although Buhari has not publicly announced his intention to seek re-election in 2019, there are strong indications that he might want another term during the next poll. And in a lengthy article captioned “Was The Ex NIA DG Set Up to Pave The Way for Buhari’s Northernisation Agenda?”, Omokri accused Buhari of pursuing an ethnic agenda. According to the former presidential aide, the report that 430 prisoners are pursuing degrees, shows they are better than Buhari whose “WAEC certificate is suspect.” “Let me conclude by saying that I just read how 430 Nigerian prisoners are pursuing degrees at NOUN. Buhari was overthrown in 1985 and returned to power 30 years later,” Omokri said. “In those 30 years, did he improve himself like these prisoners? He did not further his education. No degree, no books written. Even his WAEC certificate is suspect.” In addition, he noted that: “Electing those prisoners is better than re-electing Buhari. So today, I remind you that prayer points and social media have limited power to kick killer Fulani herdsmen and their cattle colony political sponsors out of power. “But PVCs have unlimited power to kick them out of power FOREVER. So do not go for guns. Go for your PVC and change the useless change that Buhari and APC brought in 2019.” https://www.concisenews.global/politics/better-to-elect-prisoners-than-buhari-omokri/

Akande, an aide to Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, said this on Saturday, adding that N900m was used for Special Intervention Programmes (SIP) by the Federal Government since 2016. ”In 2018, more beneficiaries are expected to be added to about 200,000 young graduates currently employed under the scheme,” Akande said. ”A total of N900 billion was appropriated for the SIPs in 2016 and 2017; with N500 billion appropriated for 2016 and N400 billion appropriated for 2017. ”However, the total amount released was N110 billion for 2016 and 2017, with the total expenditure of N109 billion.” In addition, he noted that over 6 million pupils are being fed by the Federal Government school feeding programme. Akanded revealedd that the scheme is operational in 20 states of the federation. According to him: ”More states are expected to be added to the programme this year. The NHGSFP plans to implement feeding in a total of 28 States, while it aims to link farmers to school feeding markets. ”In the same vein, several milestones were recorded by the Buhari administration’s National Social Investment Programmes (NSIP) in 2017, in line with its inclusive growth plan, which includes tackling poverty and hunger, and creating jobs for Nigerians. “About 40,000 direct jobs have since been created from the School Feeding Programme across the participating states. The 20 states that have so far been covered by the NHGSFP include Anambra, Enugu, Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ebonyi, Zamfara, Delta, Abia, Benue, Plateau, Bauchi, Taraba, Kaduna, Akwa-Ibom, Cross River, Imo, Jigawa, Niger, and Kano.” https://www.concisenews.global/news/fg-to-employ-more-graduates-for-n-power-in-2008/

A Professor of history at the Faculty of Humanities, Maitama Sule University, Kano, Umar Muhammad Labdo, has reiterated his claim that Benue belongs to the Fulani. The lecturer provided reasons for his earlier claim that Benue land is Fulani by right of conquest. Speaking in an interview with Punch, he agreed the Fulani are migrants from Futa Jallon but added that they have been in Nigeria for more than 800 years. He said: “It is factual that Fulani originally came to this area from somewhere in modern Mali, which is called Futa Toro or Futa Jallon. It is an incontrovertible fact. But then, when did they come here? It was between 800 and 1, 000 years (ago ). Now, people who migrated more than 800 years ago, they are no longer migrants. “If you study the history of all people in the world, you will know that they migrated from somewhere else. Take America for example, Europeans migrated to America about 500 years ago. “Now, is it proper to call white Americans settlers? They are simply not settlers but own the country. Also, Europeans migrated to Australia. Now, they own the country. Europeans migrated to South Africa and it took many years of struggle for the black majority to gain independence from them. Now, Adam, that is, the first man, did not live in Tiv land. “So, Tiv people came to Tiv land, Fulani came to Tiv land, they came to Nigeria, they came to all areas that they live in today. The bottom line is that you cannot label them as settlers. If you call them settlers, then all the people and the rest of the world would be called settlers; that is the point that is being established. “Don’t talk about original owners. Now, the right of conquest is recognised worldwide. And many of the people, who live presently in different countries, they are there and are living there by the right of conquest. And this right of conquest is recognised, even by our Supreme Court. “One of my followers on Facebook, who is a lawyer, said he could mention 10 cases in which our Supreme Court recognised conquest as one of the basis of getting titles for land. So, don ’t talk about that. Who are the original owners? Original! When did they come? “We submit that the first father of the Tiv was Mohammed Alla, who migrated from Katsina, that is why today, you have Katsina Alla! Let them explain, what is the meaning of Katsina Alla? So, this Fulani man, when he got to that area and fathered Tiv, there were other Fulani people there. That was why he came to join his own brothers. “So, if you are talking about any original owners of the Tiv land, it is actually the Fulani. And the Fulani are the fathers of the Tiv and the Jukun are their mothers.” https://www.concisenews.global/news/muhammad-labdo-insists-benue-belongs-fulani/

A couple in Lagos have drifted from the convention of serving guests rice and morsels at weddings by offering them soaked garri and fried fish to feed on. Kaduna media personnel Malam Mohammed Garba has challenged ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo to a debate over his letter to president Muhammadu Buhari. Obasanjo had told Buhari not to seek re-election in 2019, lamenting his inability to fulifill his campaign promises. However, Garba while throwing the challenge to Obasanjo on Thursday in Kaduna, said the former president’s letter is at variance with the principles of democracy. According to him, Obasanjo does not have any right to tell someone not to contest for any elective position, accusing him of trying to foist a presidential candidate on Nigerians. “It is possible he is being instigated by foreign powers or local selfish politicians who hate to see Nigeria progressing,” Garba who is the Chief Executive Officer of Right Contact Services Nigerian Ltd said. “I am of the opinion that Obasanjo is being used to usher certain individuals into the presidency in 2019 to facilitate the exploitation of the country’s wealth. “I Mohammed Garba, a media expert is, therefore, challenging former President Olusagun Obasanjo to a debate on all the things he has said about President Buhari. The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria has said that it would embrace ranching if the Taraba government gave them subsidy. Chairman of the group in the North-East, Alhaji Mafindi Danburam. said this, adding that subsidy will help small herders acquire the necessary tools for their business. The national government is proposing cattle colonies for herders following clashes with farmers across the country. And speaking to Punch, Danburam noted that the cattle breeders contribute significantly to the economy and deserve to be supported by the government. “Some of these poor herders have between 10 to 30 cows and you say he must ranch. Who will provide water for him? An average ranch costs between N700,000 and N3m and that would not be possible for poor herders to do," he said. “So, does such category of persons need to sell all they have to do ranching? Until government recognises that this sector is also contributing to the economy of the state and they begin to give us subsidy, ranching will not work.” He noted that, “Another aspect of concern in the law is that it prohibits selling of land to a typical herder until the governor gives approval. Okay, how many of us have Certificate of Occupancy in Taraba State? “We are practising traditional method of land ownership in Taraba State and if my wife or parent is sick and I need to sell my land to take them to the hospital, does that mean that I have to get the governor’s approval?en I want to do ranching?” https://www.concisenews.global/business/herdsmen-demand-subsidy/ Myndd44, Lalasticlala

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has set a bakery and a garri processing factory at the Permanent Orientation Camp in Ede, Osun state. Coordinator of the NYSC in Osun Emmanuel Attah said corps members interested in learning how to bake bread, cakes and other pastries would be taught by bakers. This will reduce the cost of feeding and we will be sure that what our children are eating are produced in a hygienic environment. The same thing goes for gari. We eat eba and we said it would be good if we produce what we eat,” Attah said. “Very soon, we will start selling bread and gari to the people in the towns and even the state. Recent killings in the country shows that President Muhammadu Buhari has failed, says the Peoples Democratic Party caucus at the House of Representatives. Leader of the team, Leo Ogor condemned the killings, lamenting that the federal government cannot guarantee the safety of Nigerians. “The first fundamental duty of any government is the security of citizens’ lives and property, but it is deeply unfortunate, historically horrific and spiritually negative that under the APC government, the nation is witnessing endless rounds of senseless killings of men, women and children in Benue, Taraba and other states,” the lawmaker said. “Within the past two years, unidentified herdsmen have displaced Boko Haram in terms of mindless killings; it is unfortunate that once again, just like they did several times before, rampaging herdsmen in utter contempt for Benue State’s anti-grazing law, wantonly descended on Guma and Logo Local Government Areas of Benue State in a new year attack that left scores of dead bodies.” In addition, he said “Herdsmen now rank high on the Global Terrorism Index and nationwide, mindless killings, armed robberies and dastardly kidnappings have increased under the APC government, which now repays the overwhelming votes from the people with long conspiratorial silence and numb promises while the number of corpses mounts. “Security is one of the three major commitments that the APC government guaranteed the nation at its inception, but in the usual pattern of elevating deceit and propaganda above all else, it has woefully remained unable to rein in worsening insecurity across the nation. “Today, the result is that our gallant military personnel and other security operatives are immersed in tackling crises in all parts of Nigeria.” https://www.concisenews.global/news/killings-in-nigeria-shows-buhari-has-failed-pdp-reps/

It is abnormal for a woman to ask for a man’s hand in marriage, as men are traditionally in the position to do so. This is due to several age-long beliefs ranging from the man being the head of the home to men being more level-headed to make such decision. That is a subject of debate, though. Anyway, let’s continue. The internet was recently awash and agog with videos of two Nigerian ladies proposing to men. Last week in Lagos, a lady proposed to her man. Unfortunately, the proposal, which took place at the Ikeja Shopping Mall, was turned down by the guy. What a scene. You needed to be there. Many Nigerians, let me be specific, the ”champions of tradition and culture” were drowned in the ocean of surprise. It was strange. Listen to what someone told me, in reaction to the videos: ”Even if I was compelled to propose to a man or lose my dear life, I will quickly opt for the latter.” ”What nonsense!” she added. Some people blamed the lady for not “doing it in secret to avoid embarrassment,” while others praised the her for “shooting her shot,” describing her as courageous. Yes, it is strange, especially in this part of the world, but in some countries, people are beginning to see nothing wrong with it. In the United Kingdom, specifically Scotland and Ireland, February 29th every leap year is a day when women can propose to men. It is also the same in Finland but with an exception: the man will buy a suitor enough clothing if he rejects her proposal. British monarch, Queen Victoria, leads the pack for women proposing to men. She proposed to Prince Albert on 15 October 1839 and they were married on 10 February 1840, in the Chapel Royal of St James’s Palace, London. Data from the United States shows that 5% of proposals are made by women. But why are Nigerian women now proposing to men? What has changed? Courage One of the reasons a lady could propose to a man is Courage. Some men are believed not to be courageous enough to pop the “Will you marry me?” question for fear of being rejected. And instead of waiting for ages for the man, the lady takes the bull by the horn and seal the relationship, taking it to another level. Age Factor Also, since it is naturally believed that a lady’s ”clock ticks faster than a man’s,” most ladies would not mind popping the big question. When a lady is in a relationship for a long time, with age no longer on her side and being “harassed” by her mother to bring home a man for “legalised procreation,” she could be forced to make the request and move the relationship to the “permanent site.” Although she could be rejected but that is deemed better than ageing faster without knowing where the relationship is headed. Rising Level of Feminism Heard the saying “What a man can do, a woman can do better?” Well, that is one of the mantras used in the promotion of feminism; gender equality. Some proponents of female proposing to men argue that both gender were created equally and thus proposing should not be a “man’s thing.” Foreseeing A Man’s Prospect There is another school of thought that believes some ladies propose to men when they see his potentials. It’s a widely held belief that men tend to struggle financially, especially in their early years. Thus, many men might shy away, even with potentials of a great future, to “tie the love of his life down” in eternal bliss. With this, a lady who is in a romantic relationship with a man who she sees prospects in, may not hesitate to “ring the finger.” If the lady in question is financially stable, the scenario is even likelier to play out. Fulfillment of Biblical Prophesy? “In that day seven women will take hold of one man and say, ‘We will eat our own food and provide our own clothes; only let us be called by your name. Take away our disgrace!'” – Isaiah 4:1 There are also some groups of people who see the recent wave of women proposing to men in Africa as a fulfillment of the biblical statement above. With the level of desperation exhibited by most ladies to marry and bear “Mrs” – a product of societal pressure – this seem, from popular belief, a possible answer to the poser: “should women propose to men?” As arguments for and against this rage on across the country, it is safe to say that this five reasons explain the paradigm shift of women proposing to men. https://www.concisenews.global/opinion/five-reasons-nigerian-ladies-are-proposing-to-men/

Femi Adesina, media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, says his principal did not visit Benue state because he does not want to politicise the killings in the North-Central state. Recall that 73 persons died after an attack by men suspected to be herders on January 1st in the State. Buhari had come under severe scrutiny for not visiting the Food Basket of the nation after the incident. But in an article, entitled “Why I stand with Buhari”, Adesina noted that Buhari would have cashed in on the situation to score some cheap political points by visiting. He wrote that “After primitive fury was unleashed in Benue, and about 73 people were left dead, a sitting President eyeing reelection could also play politics with it, visiting and muttering the right words to impress the people. Nothing wrong. “But for President Buhari, action speaks louder than words. Action stations, he told the security agencies. The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations was first despatched, then the Minister of Interior, the Inspector General of Police himself, and then the Nigerian Army. “Consultations were held with the governor of the state, with Benue elders, and now, a committee headed by the Vice President, made up of nine governors, has been set up to proffer solutions to farmers/herdsmen clashes. Action truly speaks louder than words.” https://www.concisenews.global/news/presidency-reveals-why-buhari-did-not-visit-benue/

Looters are blackmailing President Muhammadu Buhari with the recent killings by suspected herdsmen in Benue state, the President’s media aide has alleged. Over 70 persons were killed on New Year’s Day by suspected herders in the state, resulting in strong criticism of the federal government. But Garba Shehu said the president was doing his best to handle security issues in the country, adding that those ”blackmailing” his boss were the ”enemies of the people.” Advertise With Us “The President has handled security issues in the country as best as anyone can handle them. He is being blackmailed on security issues by the beneficiaries of a rotten old order, who are the real losers in an environment in which corruption, impunity and theft are being fought,” Shehu told Punch. “Those who stole N2tn from oil subsidies every year; those who stole crude oil, sold it abroad and pocketed the proceedings, powerful men and women who stole N200bn from the federal pensions and salaries; these are the enemies of the people. “They are just blackmailing the President. Their pain is that they have been deprived of what they are used to. The message they are sending is ‘we are already starving, how can we survive four more years of Buhari’s government? “Nigeria is not in danger of a civil war. Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka says President Muhammadu Buhari is handling the recent killings by suspected herdsmen with kid gloves. Recall that suspected herdsmen killed scores of people on New Year’s Day in Benue state, North Central Nigeria. And Soyinka noted in a lengthy article he wrote on Wednesday that Buhari was towing the line of former President Goodluck Jonathan, who was believed to have treated Boko Haram insurgents with levity. Advertise With Us “A hideous massacre” perpetrated by the herdsmen in 2016, a security meeting was called and the cattle rearers “attended the meeting — according to reports — with AK47s and other weapons of mass intimidation visible under their garments,” Soyinka said. “They were neither disarmed nor turned back. They freely admitted the killings but justified them by claims that they had lost their cattle to the host community.” He added that, “Such are the monstrous beginnings of the culture of impunity. We are reaping, yet again, the consequences of such tolerance of the intolerable. Yes, there indeed the government is culpable, definitely guilty of ‘looking the other way’. Indeed, it must be held complicit.” “I am not aware that IPOB came anywhere close to this homicidal propensity and will to dominance before it was declared a terrorist organization. “The international community rightly refused to go along with such an absurdity. The Arewa Youths Forum has described the reported re-election bid of President Muhammadu Buhari as “inhumane” and an insult to the “sensibilities” of Nigerians. The forum said this in a statement on Friday, where it also expressed worries over the fuel scarcity in the country. It alleged that the political elites are causing hardship for the masses while lamenting the level of corruption by high-ranking members of the Buhari government. “If you add these challenges to the corruption allegations that have plagued some top ranking officers of this administration, the inability of Mr. President to address same leaves a sour taste in the mouth of many Nigerians,” it said. “Consequently, we are appalled to hear that in the midst of all these, the President and his men have already put in place measures to start his re-election bid for 2019. “As the apex body of youths in the 19 northern states and Abuja, with affiliates across the country, we see the re-election bid of Mr. President at this point in time as inhuman, uncalled for and an insult to the sensibilities of the suffering Nigerian masses.” And on the magnitude of the killings in the country, the group called on Buhari to visit the states. “On the magnitude of killings in the country, we expect the President to visit some of the states and when he came to Kaduna, he should have condoled with the people or even visited the area.” https://www.concisenews.global/news/buharis-re-election-bid-inhumane-insult-nigerians-arewa-youths/

Spanish side Barcelona are in the final stages of the deal to sign Liverpool’s Coutinho for a record €150 million. If the deal pulls through, the Brazilian will be the third-most expensive footballer in the world and their record signing. Neymar’s €222m move from Barcelona to Paris Saint Germain and Kylian Mbappe’s loan switch from Monaco – which will become permanent next season for €180m – will be the only deals that will trump Coutinho’s transfer. A move to Catalonia will see the Liverpool forward eclipse Ousmane Dembele – signed from Borussia Dortmund last summer for an initial fee of €105m that could rise to €145m – as the side’s most expensive player. The deal will also eclipse the €105m Manchester United’s fee to Juventus for Paul Pogba in August 2016 by around €15m, smashing the British record. It was gathered that the deal will be supplemented by €40m in add-ons related to performances and appearances, likely to be triggered. https://www.concisenews.global/news/barcelona-finalizing-coutinho-deal/

Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has missed the most glaring chances in the Premier League this term against Arsenal following his dismal outing on Wednesday. The former Real Madrid forward missed an incredible three clear-cut chances as the Gunners forced Antonio Conte’s men to a 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium. Jack Wishere had given Arsene Wenger’s side the lead but an Eden Hazard penalty leveled up things for the Blues before the stroke of half-time. Marcos Alonso then gave the defending champions the lead before Hector Bellerin’s fine strike pegged them back. Nigeria has had a stable economy with corruption tamed since Muhammadu Buhari became president, the Buhari Volunteers Movement (BVM) claims. National Coordinator of the group, Paul Michael disclosed this in a statement on Monday. Michael described the president as a man ready to sacrifice his comfort for the country's progress. He stated that, “When we supported and worked for the emergence of Buhari, we did it simply to ensure that the path of Nigeria is redirected from corruption to a path of growth and development, where transparency and accountability become the hallmark of governance. "We knew, however, that it was not going to be easy to ‘change’ Nigerians and Nigeria, since corruption has been a norm and taken grip of every sector of the country. We had confidence on the capability of President Muhammadu Buhari in taming corruption. “Today, despite the dwindling and epileptic economy that was inherited by the Buhari administration, every sincere Nigerian can say prudence has returned to government and the economy has stabilized.” https://www.concisenews.global/news/buhari-has-stabilized-economy-tamed-corruption-group/

Mike Ozekhome (SAN) has described President Muhammadu Buhari’s New Year message as “embarrassingly banal”. According to the human rights lawyer, the message failed to address biting issues in the country. Ozekhome added that Nigerians are suffering but the speech do not in any way come with an drop of inspiration, while failing to address the corruption in the present administration. “PMB’s New Year’s address is embarrassingly banal, uninspiring, empty, myopic, unrealistic and bereft of any benefit of historical dynamics,” the lawyer said in statement. “It is an unfortunate metaphor for one who has lost total touch with the people and their aching pulse.” He added that, “The speech comes straight from Stone Age Australopithecus verbiage that never showed any gravitas, sincerity of purpose and honest admission of abysmal failure, total directionless and cluelessness in the current opaque governance of the country. “It (the broadcast) never talked about nor told Nigerians what he is doing about the putrefying and oozing corruption squarely located within his government, with overwhelming and incontrovertible evidence of fat untouchable cows left unprosecuted [sic].” https://www.concisenews.global/news/buharis-new-year-message-embarrassing-archaic-ozekhome/

Spanish midfielder Juan Mata has won the 2017 Guardian Footballer of the Year. He was given the award on Monday for his humanitarian efforts. According to the UK media outfit, the award is "given to a player who has done something truly remarkable, whether by overcoming adversity, helping others or setting a sporting example by acting with exceptional honesty." It was gathered that the Spaniard won the award due to his Common Goal project, in which players and managers give 1% of their salary to charity. "This year Mata has done more than anyone to give fresh belief that professional football is not only built on greed and staggering wages for its strutting prima donnas," the Guardian wrote about the player. "The Manchester United and Spain midfielder, instead, has broken new ground and begun to use football’s power and wealth to help ordinary people around the world. “In less than five months Mata has been joined by 35 other football people from 17 countries in donating 1% of their salaries to Common Goal. All the money raised will be given to football charities where it is needed most – and the project now includes, beyond the players, its first manager, administrator and startup initiative.” https://sokasquare..com.ng/2018/01/spanish-midfielder-juan-mata-wins.html
