PoliticsRe: Fire Burning Seriously At Molete Ibadan. TERRIBLE by PenSniper: 10:02am On Oct 13, 2014
Vikkiboi:
Fire outbreak at molete bustop axis ibadan. So terrible.

No fewer than sixty people were burnt beyond recognition this evening
in Ibadan when a fuel tanker fell at the popular Molete Under-bridge,
splashing its highly inflammable content on all objects in sight with an
accompanying inferno. The accident that occurred around 9 pm left
scores dead and many people injured with varied degrees of injury.
When the Street Journal visited the scene of the accident, there was
commotion as many people were still trying to find their wards and
relatives that just passed though the area. Eye witness accounts have it
that the fuel tanker that was coming from Challenge end of Molete had
a break failure and the driver subsequently lost its control before it
rammed into a pole under the bridge, resulting in the fire disaster.
It was gathered at the scene of the accident that about dozens of Okada
riders and some commuters were caught up in the ensued fire disaster.
Traders by the roadsides particularly, the bread sellers were roasted like
bush meat. All the adjoining streets had a fair share of the disaster as
casualties figures are expected to rise as many people were caught
unawares in their shops. A combined team of security operatives and
the state emergency agencys were on ground to ensure that the number
of casualties was drastically brought under control. its well o
Op, with due respect, this is no way to report a calamity moreso of this magnitude.
1 - no fewer than 60 casualties - how did you confirm the figure ?
2 - how on earth could you say human beings were roasted like bush meat ?
Does that portray a humane or beastly feeling ?
3 - you ended your report by saying " it is well o" Nay, what is well in a disaster of such magnitude if your is to be believed ?

What did Azikiwe Achieve while in power? I am very curious

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. He was a total failure. He went all out to seek power only for self-agrandisement. He did not know the a, b, c of power. The only, thing he had upstairs was getting power and not what to do with it. Worst, he was like a wheel-barrow- no use unless pushed. Matter of fact, it is a waste of time to discuss Azikiwe.

Femi Aribisala, and many self-appointed pastors like him are ACADEMIC rather than SPIRITUAL pastors. People who cannot and do not, with their defective mundane wisdom, understand man who they see claim to understand an unseen spiritual God who is spirit. I would have proven the doctrine of the Trinity to him but prefer to let him continue wallowing in his abject ignorance. Suffice it to tell him that even he was created as a trinity. So it is simply the case of someone denying a truth of himself. Heaven is the ONLY school for the WORD of God and the Holy Spirit is the Teacher.

The other day he said he was indifferent to both PDP and APC, why meddle in APC's matter now. Its even good anyway, let him align with the APC as that will ensure a massive protest vote against APC in the Southwest. Nothing can deny GEJ mass support in the region next year.

MeAboki:
It is becoming really tiresome and annoying when Igbo youths keep whining and complaining about the war, trying to twist history, playing the victims as if they were not the architects of their own undoing.
@ OP:
Have you forgotten that your ppl were the ones who started it all:
The first ever coup and selective killing of northern, western and midwestern leaders, sparing their own, resulting in the retaliatory coup and pogrom was started by Igbos.
Your ppl also started the civil war by attacking first - it will be recalled that the FG had sent the police to quell what it then considered a civilian uprising but Ojukwu responded with the full force of the Biafran Army and also following through with the invasion of the Midwest.

Your example of reparation being paid by Germany is clearly on the wrong side of logic because that country lost the war and was openly the aggressor - just like the Igbos, so how could you turn around and expect reparation?

You singled out the Sardauna, faulting his northernisation policy, myopically forgetting that the country was based on regionalism (a federation of states); where each regional premiere was the champion of his region and worked assiduously towards the singular advancement of his ppl - the Sardauna wasn't different from any of his counterparts who were also doing the same thing.
Note: his constituency (as northern premiere) was Northern Region (with its ppl both Christians and Muslims) and NOT the Nigerian State - therefore faulting him in this regard is not only silly but myopic.

His speech was therefore quite apt at the time.
So would you have expected him to have opened his region to Igbo invasion at the expense of his ppl?

It is also instructive to note that none of his competing contemporaries (in the East, West or Midwest Regions) found his speech unusual or otherwise offensive - as it was quite normal to them; only those brought up ignorant of the past and with the hindsight of the newer nationalistic concept of One Nigeria (developed after the war) will see it differently.

You referred to the request for the one minute silence in honour of Adekunle as if it was some sort of abomination; forgetting that Chukwuma Nzeogwu, though an enemy killed in battle and also self confessed killer of the northern premiere, was nonetheless buried in the north (Kaduna) by northern troops with full military honours; Ojukwu (a real war criminal) was pardoned by a northerner (Shagari), allowed to even run for president, and was also buried by the state with full military honours.
Why then do you supposes Adekunle should be denied a similar honour?
Oh, I get it; because he allegedly killed some Igbos in the war, as if Igbos didn't commit similar atrocities and perhaps you consider Igbo lives are more superior.

As for lack of Igbo leadership opportunities, blame this on your your own ppl: First of all, what is stopping Igbos from fielding a candidate and voting en masse for him? Secondly, how do Igbos expect to play tribal politics while expecting national acceptance - after they must have insulted and abused everybody else who could have voted for them; and also after putting all their eggs in the same basket, in a regional party APGA with no national coverage? Thirdly, why would they want Biafra and rule the country at the same time - isn't that double standard?

When will you guys stop thinking selfishly and start being objective? SMH.
You are absolutely right all through ditto for Sadauna's statement. The Igbos' tendency to dominate is not just borne out of enterprise but intolerance and hate for other tribes. Put an igbo fellow in a govt office and he/she will fill up the place with igbos. This inherent attitude in them was at play when Ojukwu had the effontery to appoint an igbo officer as president of invaded midwest, a prelude to domination. While people up north were still seething over the selective killings by the coupists, the igbos in kaduna went to town with banners depicting Ironsi placing his boot on a fallen Sardauna. As you rightly said, while Gowon took a pacifist police action, Ojukwu responded with full military force, followed by escapades in the midwest and Ore heading towards Lagos. While they engage in perpetual weeping over spilt milk, they seem not to know that the attrocities and war crimes they commited in the midwest were well documented. According to them, Adekunle's crime was shooting anything moving but when compared to mass slaughtering of men, women and children and burying same in mass graves, the former pales into insignificance. Some of those people were actually buried alive. There are records to prove this. They had better stopped deluding themselves of Nigeria's presidency because it wont happen. Their best shot is Biafra. They cant and should never be trusted with such power because they dream of nothing but revenge followed by Nigeria's partition.

Am more confused now. i need scriptural reference.
1 Cor. 8 vs 4 - 10 quoted above enjoin a strong believer not to eat food from an idol in the presence of a fledgling believer so as not to make him derail. This means derailing him into eating such food means misleading him to err. Verses 11 & 12, a continuation of the quoted passage read -"11 - And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died ? 12 - But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ". Elders in the faith are open to lots of temptations but they must constraint themselves through self-discipline so as not to lead the flock astray.
1 Cor. 10 vs 27 & 28 read - "If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go: whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake. But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that showed it, and for conscience sake; for the earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof:".
Now, the, ram slaughtered in the Haj is offered unto idols as sacrifice and the pilgrims and Saudis themselves do not eat them. After the sacrifice, they throw them away for processing and export to unwary needy countries. By the foregoing, i do not think that muslims who eat such meat because they do not make the sacrifice in S. Arabia are doing the right thing not to talk of giving it out to neighbours.

naijaking1:
Awo rejected the single engine airplane sent to fetch him, that might have caused some delays. From the article above, it was apparent that there was a plan to debrief Awo in Lagos, before proceeding to his home in Ikenne. Unfortunately, some people have chosen to describe this standard debriefing protocol as "releasing him with strings attached"
Foul. Awo did not reject any plane. His diary account was explicit- he had no inkling Ironsi planned to release him until after the actual release. Obi Nwakamma, the so-called historian mischieviously misinterpreted Awo's own account for reasons best known to him. How about this hypothesis - That Awolowo was released from prison after Ironsi's death was incontrovertible. This was immediately followed by Gowon's takeover. Given the fact that Ojukwu was naturally averse to this scenario, if he then had released Awo as is being touted, the question is, would he have allowed Awo plus the plane to be taken to Gowon ? I doubt.

A hero dies and the world media are mute? The world media are unaware from the day of death to date of burial?
The world media report the deaths of the good, the bad and the ugly, take note. When Chinua Achebe died, the world media reported by highlighting his death due to frustration, loneliness, senility and self-banishment from his motherland- rather a mockery of his death if thats what you prefer.
