Show me a line where I incinuated that I am a"righteous man?" But I hope that I am not an always a horrible man, either. What you will not find in my value is Disagreeing with Qur'an and Muhammad (AS)!
So you are saying you are not a righteous man? That means that you will not go to heaven by Islamic standards according to you?. Why are you wasting your time then worshipping Allah and Mohammed?. Do you derive any joy or remuneration from religious practice?. If you are worshiping God without HOPE, whats the essence?. You see why I told you before that it's only Jesus Christ than can offer you hope and not the other one that cannot be mentioned anyhow.

Guys the centrepiece here is "inspirational leader"

by the way the name "Donald Duke" is strange in Nigeria and Calabar is an ethnic minority.

But this is not just about doing the improbable . . . . . . . . but having a visionary leader
Same way blacks are ethnic minorities in America. As a matter of fact, blacks are now third in ethnic population in the US. Calabar ethnicity will not be a stumbling block for him unless he is not charismatic. Pat Utomi is charismatic and smart but he is not an eloquent speaker which is a very big factor to effect such a change. may be Orji Uzor Kalu, Festus Keyamo,Olisa Agbakoba,Dapo Sarumi and Nuhu Ribadu.

Please! It will come to pass. I think we'll soon get there in Nigeria as long as we put more effort in educating the North and setting them free from obscure poverty. Hausas are the ones that have a long way to go in gender equality. Have you seen any Hausa woman win an election in the North before?. They are so backward that they can't even produce a female local govt chairman. Their Kannywood would have been the first step to rewire their backwards mind but they have a habit of sending actors and actresses to jail if a movie leans towards the left. I still believe there is hope and the media may be the only source besides, education makes people more liberal and accepting. So, educating the North will be a very big step in achieving this. There has been a Yoruba female speaker, Yoruba female deputy governor, Igbo female governor and igbo female deputy governor,Igbo female state speaker. That is one of the signs that people are open to gender equality. If the North remains stunted as the are, I am afraid it'll be more difficult to achieve.

while a man of bankole's age has just made history after a very hard fight as the frst black president of the united states of america, remember that they both went to ivy league schools abroad in fact they both went to havard and possibly studied at same time, the fact that bankole's intergrity has to be defended at all is a huge failure on his part because he has no excuse, remember unlike obama he had rich parents who sent him to all the best schools britain and the united states had to offer, yet while a man of his age and educational background is making history, bankole is making his own chequered history as the youngest speaker to be emmershed in corruption scandal, the fact that he has to be defended at all is a massive shame for him
Obama and Bankole didn't stand on the same pedestal. While Obama swam through a near perfect and less corrupt system, Bankole is fighting a massively corrupt govt with little or no help and a legion of backstabbers like Keyamo.

Foreigners among N'Delta criminals, says military
From Madu Onuorah (Abuja),Yetunde Ebosele and Taiwo Hassan (Lagos)

THE Defence Headquarters yesterday confirmed the involvement of foreigners in criminal activities in the Niger Delta. It also said that their presence and the strategic importance of the Gulf of Guinea to both Nigeria and the international community necessitated the presence of troops of the Nigerian military, under the banner of the Joint Task Force (JTF) in the area.

The Director, Defence Information, Col. Chris Jemitola; the Director of Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen Emeka Onwuamaegbu; the Director of Naval Information, Commodore David Nabaida, in a joint briefing at the Defence Headquarters said the presence of the JTF was purely to maintain law and order.

The JTF consists of Operation Restore Hope, Operation Flushout 1 and Operation Flushout 3.

Nabaida noted: "The Gulf of Guinea has assumed a very strategic importance because of the hydrocarbon resources there. And some of the criminality in the area has been going on with the involvement of foreign elements. The JTF is not there to fight anybody. Their presence in the Niger Delta is to secure the interests of Nigeria. We can't afford to allow foreign elements to operate in the area.

Col. Jemitola added that the JTF was deployed in the Niger Delta "to maintain law and order. Nigeria cannot be at war with itself. The deployment is an Internal Security Operations (ISO), it is part of the military aid to civil authority, which the government found necessary to deploy troops to contain. And once a situation arises and the police are overwhelmed, the military will come in. There was a high unacceptable level of criminality in the area, which necessitated the establishment of the Joint Task Force. And they have secured the environment within which they were deployed, with the emergence of economic activities there. They are also to check illegal oil bunkering, vandalisation of facilities and kidnappings."

Brig Gen Onwuamaegbu, who spoke on the deployment of troops for Peace Support, explained that no member of the Nigerian contingent to the United Nations Peacekeeping operation in the Democratic Republic of Congo was at risk over the escalation of violence in the war-torn nation. Nigeria deployed some Military Observers (MILOBs) in the country under the UN banner.

According to him, "we have MILOBs in the DRC. We have no formed troops. And whenever they (MILOBs) are in harm's way, the UN Headquarters will direct them on what to do."

The Army Spokesman said that the Nigerian troops are getting set for the deployment to Somalia.

He added that "the logistics are being put in place. And once they were in place, troops will be deployed."

Explaining the deployment concept, Gen. Onwuamaegbu noted that "the Nigerian Army doesn't wake up to go into a trouble spot on its own. Wherever the government orders us to go, we are well-trained, well-equipped to go. It is the prerogative of the Federal Government to order us to go and where to go."

Meanwhile, crisis trailing the oil rich Niger Delta may be prolonged, except about $100 million (about N 11.8 billion) compensation owed host communities in the region by the oil companies operating in the upstream sector of the nation's oil and gas industry is promptly paid.

This was disclosed by a leader in the Niger Delta, Chief Edwin Clarke at the Plenary session of the ongoing Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR)'s 13th Health Safety and Environment (HSE) biennial international conference on the oil and gas industry in Abuja yesterday.

According to him, the unpaid compensation was a fallout from about 14,000 cases on environmental degradation instituted against oil companies by host communities.

According to Clark, unless the oil companies compensate the people in the Niger Delta, there would not be peace in the region because of the effect of environmental degradation.

"As I'm talking to you now, there are about 14,000 cases on environmental degradation brought by various host communities against the major oil companies worth about $100 million. And they don't want to pay. They will make sure their lawyers go to court to frustrate the host communities agitation," he said.

He lamented the continuous flaring of gas by the oil companies in the Niger Delta, adding that the issue was political because the government is not ready to end gas flaring.

He said: "The government is not interested in ending gas flaring. It is only because of the climate change that affected the whole world. Gas flaring in Nigeria is one of the highest in the oil communities in the whole world.

"The Federal Government said in 2008, gas flaring would come to an end. But when I was delivering a similar lecture some years ago, I said yes, every government has a date for ending gas flaring. We are now hearing about 2014. Perhaps, 2020 would be the year gas flaring would end."

He berated the Federal Government move for spending N400 billion on security in the Niger Delta, adding that the influx of soldiers in the area had caused more havoc to the people, adding that this move would not bring about succour to the region.

Applauding the creation of the Niger Delta Ministry, Clark appealed to government to allocate three to five per cent of the nation's revenue earnings to run the ministry, adding that this was the only way the creation of the ministry would be vibrant.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Chelsea Plans N11.3m Weekly Pay For Mikel by PepERSprAY(op): 6:00pm On Nov 05, 2008
Chelsea plans N11.3m weekly pay for Mikel

SUPER Eagles' Chelsea midfielder, John Mikel Obi, is on the verge of signing an N11.3 million a week contract following his commanding performances for the London club this season.

The Sun of London reported yesterday that the Nigerian was in talks over a £60,000-a-week (N11,333,450.13) five-year contract following a string of star displays for the Blues this term. Mikel, 21, still has three years to run on his current £40,000-a-week package but Big Phil Scolari is desperate to tie him down to see off any interest from abroad.

"It has been an ongoing discussion for two weeks now and only a few details remain," Mikel's agent, John Shittu, revealed. "The player is happy at the club and the club also want to commit him to a long-term contract. There is absolutely no problem and both parties are on the right page.

"In a few days everything will be concluded. The player is at the right club, where the fans appreciate him and he also feels at home. Many people questioned his decision to come here but I think now he has proved himself and shown he deserves everything."

Mikel was a bit-part player in his first two seasons at Stamford Bridge. But with Michael Essien out injured, the £16 million star has become a key part of Scolari's new-look regime. Mikel is relishing the role and is now gunning for Roma in tonight's Champions League tussle.

"This is an away game at a very tough ground, it won't be an easy game - but we can fully wrap up qualification if we win," he said. "That makes it important for us. It's been a bumpy Champions League campaign for them this season and that will make them dig for a result.

"We know a win is crucial. It would afford us the luxury of concentrating on the league and other competitions without any distraction. Not so many teams travel to Rome to pick up a win. It has only happened on a few occasions but we are focused and determined to be in that classical league. It's key to maintain the momentum of the past two months.

"We are not only buoyed by the last result in the league but the fact that confidence and team spirit is on an unprecedented high. That is very crucial going into a big game like this."

She came home to pick gold

By Akeem Lasisi

To elm-slim Nnedi Okoroafor-Mbachu, the trip she made to Nigeria late last week is one of the best ways to visit home. The US-based Nigerian writer had come to witness the finals of the second edition of the Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature in Africa, where she and two other writers - Wale Okediran and Uzodima Okonjo-Iweala - were in the race for the award established by Lumina Foundation. At the end of the day, her magical realist prose work, Zarah the Windseeker, was declared winner, thus securing the $20,000 at stake.

Okoroafaor-Mbachu, Soyinka and Obafemi

"It is amazing," Okoroafor-Mbachu enthused at the ceremony held on Sunday night at the Eko Hotel, Lagos. I am extremely overwhelmed. I am particularly thrilled that this is happening in Nigeria. This is my foundation, especially as it is also an African award.

With her victory, Okoroafor-Mbachu appears to have signposted a pattern in the young literary prize initiated by prolific writer, Promise Ogochukwu. In the first instance, it is the second time a Nigerian would win it from the Diaspora, as the maiden edition went to US-based Sefi Attah's Everything Good will Come. On another note, it seems to be another way to affirm the pedigree of Nigerian female writers who have continued to break new grounds within and outside the country.

Apart from the breakthroughs that the likes of Mabel Segun, Akachi Ezeigbo and Chimamanda Adichie have made in recent past, emerging novelist, Kaine Agary, captured the 2008 Nigeria Prize for Literature only last month, cruising home with a whooping $50,000. While everything good seems to be going the way of the women, however, professor of drama at the University of Ilorin, Olu Obafemi, who was head of the Soyinka Prize judging panel, made it clear at the event that nothing but overall literary merit gave the gold to Okoroafor-Mbachu.

Obafemi noted that of the 126 entries received, Zarah the Windseeker, Okonjo-Iweala's Beast of no Nation and Okediran's The Weaving Loom stood out. Describing Beast of no Nation as a gripping narration, he said that The Weaving Loom is a well produced book that inspiringly promotes enduring values. In Zarah the Windseeker, however, the judges saw an unstoppable excursion into myths and taboos and a work with "profound simplicity", beautifully produced and "virtually error-free."

The award ceremony was ignited by Crown Troupe of Africa which staged an interesting and engaging play, The Key, written by Ogochukwu; cultural performances by Nefatiti; as well as poetry recitation that extolled the virtues of Africa and Soyinka, who struggled hard to concede the title, 'celebrant' to an Okoroafor-Mbachu, youngsters at the event, and the future of African literature that, he believes, is very bright.

The Nobel laureate was ushered onto the stage by panegyric chants from the suavely dressed four ladies that made up Nefatiti. So moved was Soyinka that he rewarded each of the singers with a privileged kiss. Or was it a peck?

"I am not the celebrant," he said, adding that the only condition he could accept being so was if he would enjoy the privilege of bestowing the kiss on the girls - almost reminding one of how Elesin Oba, in Soyinka's popular play, Death and the King's Horseman, insists on getting some sacred privileges before his sacrificial death. On a more serious note, however, the 74-year-old indefatigable activist and pen wielder added, "I am not the celebrant. What we are celebrating today is literature."

While congratulating Okoroafor-Mbachu, he commended the two women behind Lumina, Fracesca Emanuel, whom he described as his long-time friend and collaborator and Ogochukwu, not only for sustaining the prize, but also expanding its focus to include running reading clubs in schools.

Also at the ceremony were the Managing Director of Tanus Communications, Dr. Ymi Ogunbiyi; a former President of the Association of Nigerian Authors, Mr. Odia Ofeimun; several publishers and writers.

Emmanuel thanked corporate organisations such as Access Bank, Intercontinental Bank, Zain, Zenith Bank, Macmillan and Oceanic Bank.

There is gay marriage in the USA too, Canada really is more technology ahead of the USA. Canada is well plan but we have less population. But Canada is better form of democratic govt than the USA. I nearly ran for election before, so my brother I know about the system and I also many years ago, when I was younger an electoral officer during an election. What you people call INEC in Nigeria. We call it election canada. I once worked for them toward an election. trust me. Canada have a better system than the USA.

If a party win a riding, it reflect the wish of the people.

Here is how the canadian system worked. There is what we call riding . A riding is made of certain determine population, which is always modified before every election based on population. Let just use 250,000 people as example. Each riding have about the same population or close to the same.

Each party need to win a riding and The more a party riding you win. The party with the highest number of riding wins the election. You do not have have majority of all the riding. Before it use to be I think 303 or 306 , I can't remember now what it is. bit close to that number.

you can have 120 riding and form a govt. If no other party have more than you. It is closer to what we had in the 1960.

If you look at the katsina state example.

You give Katsina city 61 riding and Duara 1 riding. while fuatua would have about 2 riding. This is true democracy.
Which office did you 'nearly' run for?. Working in the electoral board does not mean you understand all the electoral system in the world. How does Nigerias democracy work?

Foreign AffairsRe: How The Us Electoral College Works by PepERSprAY: 9:25pm On Nov 04, 2008
The electoral college is winner takes all and that is one problem with US democracy. If NY has 30 electoral votes and Obama wins majority of the votes in NY, it means that he'll take the whole electoral votes in NY making a McCain supporters vote in the state of NY worthless. The aggregation of these electoral votes is what determines the winner. The candidates fight in swing states because a red state will traditionally vote elephant while a blue state will always vote donkey but it's the swing states that make the difference. Why should Obama waste his time campaigning in Arizona when he knows that Mccain will win his home state and take all the electoral votes?

I never said anywhere that Yoruba men do not have such bonds but it's the strenght of the bond that is in question here.

For those that are asking me about opinion polls, ask them how many people they polled when they question Nollywood and how they disgrace Nigerians especially when we look at their record sales.

They can also ask me how many people I polled if i claim that :

Yoruba men are more romantic than any other race and tribe in Africa

Hausa men are more mumuish and adamant than any other tribe in Africa

Igbo men are more likely to stay with their wives till the end of time no matter the condition than any other tribe or race in Africa.
