ASUU TO F.G.... In 2007 and banks declared that they were in trouble, government brought out N3trillion to bail out the banks. First, they gave the banks N239billion, another N620billion and N1.725trillion making a total of N3trillion. Then the aviation sector said that it was in distress, they gave the sector,N500billion and NOLLYWOOD billions of Naira to support it financial distress These sectors are important, but they are not as important as the fundamental which is the education sector. If you can give the banks N3trillion and all the universities are asking for is about N1.5trillion, the same way in which they sourced the money which they gave to the banks which they are now saying that they should not pay back, they shouldbe able to do more for education. So, nobody should come to us and say that government has no money. |

A Letter To Prof. Wole Soyinke I bring you greetings from Port Harcourt. Fortunately, from my location, no hippos are in sight. Your place in history is securely established. You are one of the very few that have been consistent through the decades in your stance. Every regime since independence has felt your bold presence. Your mastery of words is extraordinary…so good that people are afraid of replying you (for fear of exposing their lingual deficiency – by the way, I face that risk too). Prof, you are one of the few that excelled both in the academic world and the audacious realm of activism. At my age, you were already declared an enemy of the Nigerian state for daring to stand hand in hand with truth. Time has proved you one of Nigeria’s finest, and no one can negotiate that. It is in the light of this remarkable persona that I am bothered by your position on the rumble in the deltaic plains of Rivers State. Your summation, I'm afraid, is uncharacteristi cally one sided. In your press conference, you brought to fore the brash affront to arithmetic rules, where 16 became greater than 19 and more recently 5 outnumbering 27. Prof, I share in your disgust. My discipline exposed me to mathematics beyond the ordinary. In all my romance with the subject, the only aspect of math that made provision for this absurd is found in the O LEVEL topic - Inequalities. However, that is only applied in finding unknowns and where a solution is only reached if it satisfies a condition (if the inequality is true). In these political equations at hand, there were no variables (unknowns) but constants - 35 and 32 respectively. Therefore 5 > 27 and 16 > 19 cannot be solutions to the political inequalities, respectively. Take this to CERN, take it to NASA, It defies both logic and mathematics, and I cannot agree any less with you as to the absurdity. However, this numerical tragedy is not more disgusting than the show of shame at a chamber that should boast of hallowed men, and not the hollow species we saw on TV, Tuesday last. We saw a pro- Amaechi law maker hack down a colleague almost to the point of death. They said he was provoked. What manner of provocation should make a legislator act in such berserk manner (exponentially disproportionate to the magnitude of provocation)? Or is this the real case of failure to get the swamp out of the hippopotamus as you stated in your follow up? Also, no provocation should make the executive governor put himself in harm’s way in the manner in which he did. Imagine if anything had happened to him. We also saw a man clad in Police uniform and another, both alleged to be the Governor’s aides, joining in the melee. However, I find it surprising that you didn't reserve any choice word of condemnation for these acts of brigandage. You traced everything to the door step of the first lady, who at that time we read in the papers, was many time zones ahead in China. Prof, that is not a complete picture neither is it a fair assessment. In your press conference, you described the first lady as a domestic appendage of power. Coming from a constitutional perspective, yes this is understandable for there is no phrase or compound word called “first lady” in the constitution. Prof, similarly, the constitution makes no such provision for a tier or arm of government, either implicitly or explicitly, called “Nigerian Governors Forum”. Unfortunately, the NGF is fast becoming another tier of government. It is as much a travesty as 16 > 19 portends. They gang up and stampede the President, deplete the excess crude account with reckless abandon and protect the political estates of members. In fact, they are fast becoming an electoral college for Presidential Elections – they pull the strings, provide the candidates from amongst them, and nominate the delegates at the primaries, etc. This is a threat to our brand of democracy. On a personal note, I’m afraid we lost our dear governor to this same body, for since he became the chairman of this group, things have slowed down back in the swamp. It’s been an expensive distraction thus far. Prof, you were silent on these things...or is there a part 2 coming? Prof, the battle in Rivers State is set in the murky waters of the swamp. When the mace becomes the weapon, then you can imagine the level of deterioration. Like you mentioned, there are all manner of exotic species enmeshed in the messy swamp; some are buoyant carnivores, others pretentious parasites. Beatifying one at the expense of the other is plain travesty. I am inspired by your metaphorical wonder (of hippos, swamps, etc), the hippos with their physical presence and sheer brute dominate this battle. But you see, if a vet wants to capture the hippo, he won't come charging at the hippo with bare hands and expect to subdue it. He'll apply a tranquilizer and put it to sleep and the hippo becomes his for the treatment. Prof, your role as a statesman puts you in the stead of our dear Vet. We expect you to apply the intellectual tranquilizer of a statesman rather than diving in to the murky swamp. You are too much of an icon (one that I personally adore) to take sides with these politicians. Whichever side, whichever way, they carry dirty baggage from the swamp, one you’ll not be proud to be seen with from hindsight. Going personal on characters in the conflict without addressing all-sides of the real issues of the conflict will only fuel further conflict, and even leave you exposed to all manner of attacks from all sorts. Finally Prof, from your last statement, you seem to have a good line of communication with the Governor. Please tell him we miss his old self. Tell him we miss that era where he was jumping on his power bike to inspect projects and ensure contractors were working. Tell him to stop these unnecessary battles, that he’s misappropriating energy in the process. The second part of the principle of conservation of energy states that energy can be converted from one form to another. Yes, our Governor has converted his positive energy into a negative one for unnecessary fights that is not of benefit to Rivers people. At the moment, he is at war with a legion; unbeknownst to him, he’s dragging us all with him into these murky waters. The continuous throbbing of the hippos increases the turbidity of the murky waters, and the masses are at the receiving end of all of this. When the Commissioner for Information in any state becomes busier than the Commissioner for works, it’s a curious sign of a flaming Rome. That is the situation the state is in at the moment. Even the man on the street in Maiduguri knows the name of the Commissioner of Information in Rivers State. Please tell him not to listen to these sycophants around him urging him on to vain battles. They only qualify to be his friends because they are operating on the Chinese adage – The enemy of your enemy is your friend. We thought he’d learn from the mistakes of his ex-boss in this regard. Tell him to heed the advice of Afenifere or the wise counsel of Orji Uzor Kalu. Tell him that the real battle is to fix our infrastructure and ensure the dividends of democracy will trickle down to every home. We need our Governor to be focused like he was before. I traveled about 54km on the election morning just to make sure I vote for him because of what he did in his first two years in office. Today, he is held down by inertia. Nay, he's actually decelerating and resonating negative energy. He’s everywhere but nowhere! Prof, by the way, the hippos and the manatees you mentioned are endangered in our swamp. The reckless activities of oil companies have chased them to extinction. We will be glad if you can help us lend your voice in this regard as well. Prof, you have been to Nigeria, and posterity will always treat you honour. Kind regards |

Still On The Unlawful Detention Of Uni Uyo Students: A Month After By Comrade Inibehe Effiong - @InibeheEffiong @papiyase One week ago, precisely on Friday July 5, 2013, I wrote an article with the title: “Unlawful Detention of UNIUYO Students” which was published by Sahara Reporters (The Wiki Leaks of Africa). The article went viral on the internet, social and print media and other media platforms. In that article, I drew the attention of the Visitor to the University of Uyo and the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, National Assembly, Honourable Attorney General of the Federation, Inspector General of Police, National Human Rights Commission, CNPP, NBA, NANS, CSOs, ASUU, Femi Falana SAN, Olisa Agbakoba SAN, Bamidele Aturu, Festus Keyamo, Prof. Wole Soyinka and other Rights Activists, the International Community , the media and the general public to the continued unlawful detention of 44 male students of the University of Uyo who were indiscriminately arrested by the Police mostly from their hostels at Udi Street in Uyo (outside the premises of the University) and on the road. They were detained initially at the Police C.I.D of the Akwa Ibom State Command, Ikot Akpan Abia from June 12 to June 19 when they were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Lawrence S. Udonwa on felonious charges which included: murder, arson, destruction of property and rioting. The Magistrate Court declined jurisdiction. The case file was transferred to the Director for Public Prosecution (DPP). The Chief Magistrate instead of discharging the students for want of jurisdiction surprisingly made a committal order sending the students to Uyo Prison pending the decision of the DPP on the matter. I had argued inter alia, that the learned Chief Magistrate by his order, grossly violated the constitutional right of those students to fair hearing and fair trial guaranteed under section 36 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended. I am sad to announce to the whole world that today, Friday, July 12 makes it one month since those innocent, poor and voiceless Nigerian Students were arrested and incarcerated. The Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Justice just like the Nigeria Police Force and Chief Magistrate Lawrence S. Udonwa, have serious questions to answer on this matter. Investigation reveals that the Ministry of Justice remains indecisive on whether to commence prosecution or not. It is a very sad commentary that the Learned Attorney General of Akwa Ibom State, Barr. Ekpenyong Ntekim who is supposed to be a defender of public interest has by his action or omission dealt a devastating blow to the course of Justice, good conscience and truth. As at today, only one student to my knowledge has been freed having been granted bail by the Hon. Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State pursuant to an Experte Motion for bail in the Fundamental Right Enforcement Application brought by the released student against the C.O.P and the A-G Akwa Ibom State. Most of those students are indigent, their parents, relatives and guardians are selling off properties to secure legal services for their children and wards whose only sin is their studentship in the University of Uyo. I have heard of a widow/mother who gave a Lawyer two hundred thousand naira (#200, 000.00) to secure the release of her son but to no avail. Presently, the health of those students has worsened. My interaction with the families and relatives of those students shows clearly that they are totally frustrated at the system. Investigations has further revealed that the properties of some of those students, especially those who were arrested while struggling to return home were confiscated by the police and are yet to be released. One factual explanation for the continued detention of those students for one month now is that they are poor, helpless and voiceless Nigerians. Things certainly would have been totally different were the children or relatives of Commissioners, Special Advisers, Directors, Permanent Secretaries, Local Government Chairmen and other “Influential” persons among those detained. It is unpardonably blasphemous to contemplate of the children or relatives of the President, Governors, Senators, or Ministers and their likes, being detained in Nigeria for one month without trial. NOT IN NIGERIA. The Akwa Ibom State Governor with his student unionism pedigree (having been a Speaker of the Student’s Parliament in the University of Calabar) should kindly demonstrate his well known goodwill and sympathetic heart to the plight of those students. As a final year Law Student of the University of Uyo, I am saddened by the events of June 12 and the closure of the University. I am badly affected. No student in his right sense will support the carnage and anarchy of June 12. However, facts are sacred and should be respected. Prof. Soyinka is reputed for saying that: “Justice is the first condition of humanity”. I insist on justice and the Rule of Law in this matter. The authorities should know that there are voices can never, never be silenced. I challenge the media to rise to its constitutional mandate under Section 22 CFRN 1999 as the Fourth Estate of the Realm by probing into this matter. The Senate President of NANS and four other comrades and Kingsley Udoette have been sent to their untimely graves all because of this crisis. Is this what they died for? Why can’t the authorities arraign those students if they have evidence of crime against them? Why this primitive and provocative show of power, arrogance and impunity? The Supreme Court of Nigeria had since given judicial recognition to the sacred place of university students in nation building and emphasized on the need to protect them from extra-judicial stigmatization. In the locus classicus and celebrated case of Yesufu Amuda Garba and Ors V. University of Maiduguri (1986) I NWLR (pt.18) P550 the apex court Per Obaseki JSC had this to say: “A University student is a priceless asset and as he is on the threshold of a world of useful service to the nation, we cannot afford to destroy him by stigmatizing him with guilt of offences unless proved guilty before a court”. Who will save those students from being destroyed by stigmatization for offences that has not been proved before a court of competent jurisdiction? Once again, the time to act is now. LET HELP SAVE THIS INOCENT STUDENT OF UNiVERSITY OF UYO GOD BLESS UNI oF UYO GOD BLESS AKWA IBOM GOD GUILD and KEEP NIGERIA MOD FRONT PAGE pls |
A Letter from Blackberry to all Blackberry user Dear Owner, I'm so lucky I'm your BlackBerry! You hold me with both hands gently as you could be. You ensure that I am always with you. If I fall you are afraid of my injury. I always have your undivided attention, you get upset if others disturb our time together. You can never forget me in a taxi and you won't let me go unlike my old friends Nokia, Sony and Samsung that you would proudly just hand over. When you eat, I'm beside you. When you are on the toilet, I'm with you. When you sleep my head is by your pillow. When I scream you rush and pick me up like an egg. When I feel low, you make every effort to recharge my battery. When I am hungry, you fill me with airtime. You buy me all sorts of clothes to cover my precious skin. And if I make you feel like a cowboy you strap me to your waist or jeans. Every month you ensure that you set aside the money, to buy me bundles (of love). You upgraded me from my friends Nokia, Sony and Samsung to a Curve, Bold & Torch. You rush home from work and spend quality time with me; not really bothered to make a conversation with those at home. You can sit up with me for hours and smile at me, yet I have no humanly emotions; sometimes I make you laugh that people think you're mad. I watch your wife/ hubby or your bf/gf who envies our time together. But dearie... I appeal to you. Your life is wasted because of me. Take some time, leave me aside and Sort out issues that are important to you because I may love you as much as you do love me but I'm just a blackberry, nothing more!. Yours sincerely Blackberry |
Image123: @phapiA nice contribution indeed... U said I shouldn't had baffle @ d manner which DLCM suspended the youg couple yes to some extent u correct, it neither d G.S nor DLCM leadership whu ordered the suspension would eventually face some serious and uncensored question which will definitely cum from the public to DLCM members*which am one* with this un checked rush action plnties of question will b asked and people will take it 2 d extreme as it has already been taken here on NLD and Twitter,hw do d church leadership expects we member to answer all this question without iota of biasness? With grieve of hrt I still maintain on diz issue coz I never thought as much to d extent where and hw this suspension will lead diz young marriage I thank u 4 d lill correction u have made @ d above post |
NLD is one of the foremost social media that contributed negatively to d wedding of JOHN KUMIYI I still can't fid the portion of the bible that restricts the kind of gown LOVE KUMIYI wore on her wedding DAy, all I see is jst religious and church sentiments coz they are PASTORS WARDS,to me as a member of DLCM I see no fault GOT this to say"G.S pls knw JOHN is bearing ur name and not DLCM leadership* u could had looked well before u leaped" |
I write to question the rationale behind the suspension of MR\MRS JOhN KUMIYI With much grieve of hrt I write to condemn the measure of in-human treatment melted out against MR\MRS KUMIYI JOHN in proportion to d flying hypocritical marriage rumor going around d entire world I was born and christen in DLCM,am proud to say that DLCM is one of the church where have seen the bible taught well and practise well since my birth into it and nothing can take me away from DCLM coz the truth abt enternity is preached their But to some extent there are DON'TS and DO'S of religious organisation and DLCM is not exempted I came to know that it was and has never been preached in any of the church sermon that wearing of certain fabric is a SIN and having TV is sinful, likewise has it not been taught throughout my stay in dLCM the kind of dress to wear to occassions NEVERTHELESS wedding ceremonies of diz caliber in question It baffules mi to the marrow on how d above couple solimazation has generated a lot ot heated discussion across the lenght and breath of the world, a wedding attended by the G.S himself and top leaders of DLCM,a caliber kind of wedding involving two young christian couple of DLCM pastors which am very sure to have been carried out by a trusted minister of DLCM on d approval of the G.S and for sure the dress code of DLCM ladies during their wedding is not a thing of compulsion to determine their faith The couples in question according to media reports has been said to have stayed over 2 decades of their christian lives outside Nigeria,I want to say @ this juncture that humans tends to adapt with present happening they see in their present society, maybe that was the kind of marriage they both could had fantasies during their courtship, maybe a wedding of their type could had taken place in their abode of worship by some few white members of the church and never raised any eyebrow of sentiment as it is in their case now As young and vibrant they are, they could had chosen to toll their fantasies as human I see no fault in this IS IT coz they ARE AFrICANS or *dLcM leaders wards*? I totally disagree with ther leadership of the church on suspending this couple The suspension I guess should had come before the apology of MR and MRS JOHN KUMIYI(and I see sentiment in it real practise here) not the apology before the suspension, this couple saw the disapproval of their wedding and came out to apologies to the church and the G.S in particularly I see the worldly pressure to have made the leadership of DLCM to have done what they ought not to have done*suspension*they stoop so low in ahldering to d cry of hypocrisy of the world over this solemn and mild issues concerning the couple dressing, comfort, church venue and authenticity of the couple spiritual stand Finally I have this to say PASTOR KUMIYI should know he founded DLCM without the present church leadership RATHER the church was founded by him alone*JOHN and his brother inherent* through the vision of God and he should see his SON as human and not a super being who don't make mistake,he should had @ least shown that fatherly compassion on him so as to save the young marriage of leading to waterloo as it heading now I wish JOHN and LOVE KUMiYI a HML once again God knows the heart of thoes whu worship him in truth and in light |
To b frank what d social network has done to diz tender marriage is bad and if I were to b d couples I will never 4give nigeria for making noise over what is not necessary....... The shit happening to diz couple started wif hw the nigeria media handle diz wedding,to me as a born and breed deeperlifer I querrie d rationale behind diz suspension MAY GOD help JOHN and his beloveth LOVE G.S is taking diz to d extreme *he should remeber blood is thicker than church elders* |
APC all junks of fools,I weep 4 ma nation if thiz there inhuman dreams cum true OLE Tinubu OLE Amechilooter OLE Buharithief |
Desperate Poliiticians bulding castle in the Air: Tambuwal, Remi Tinubu For President, Vice President Respectively…Possible Cabinet emerges: He who never being never ends. The picture of what is to become of the All Progressive Congress, APC Government is beginning to emerge as sources have hinted that Speaker Aminu Tambuwal has been tipped as Presidential Candidate and Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, wife of Bola Ahmed Tinubu running as Vice President. APC leaders have been considering zoning the Presidency to the North and mulling zoning the running mate to the South-West. While General Muhammadu Buhari insists the President must come from the North, Bola Ahmed Tinubu wants the Vice President to come from the South West. Both leaders want the top positions shared to reflect their strength in the APC. The former Lagos State Governor,Tinubu, a major financier of the APC was alleged to have used his huge influence to insist that his wife run as a Vice Presidential candidate with Tambuwal under the APC. Mrs. Tinubu, a current Senator had told a Lagos based tabloid recently that she will rather run as a Vice Presidential candidate than take over from incumbent Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State. The initial position of the Vice President was allegedly reserved for Rivers State Governor, Mr. Chibuike Amaechi who is expected to join the APC but agitations from the South West politicians who wanted more significant presence in the Government caused the reversal, a source who does not want to be named said. Another source within the APC said, as 'we speak Oluremi, wife of former Lagos State Governor and Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) Leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is being positioned by her husband to run for VP and you know her husband is a major stakeholder in the APC.' According to him, 'she is currently lobbying women in the South West and making some appreciable in-road in the North Central for supports ahead of the 2015. This is even as Senator Ali Modu Sheriff is alleged to have been penciled down to become the Senate president while former Ekiti State Governor, Otunba Niyi Adebayo will get the position of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. The Position of the Speaker will go to Victor Ogene, an All Progressive Grand Alliance member of the House of Representative should he return to the House. To compensate the South South region, Amaechi is to be named the Petroleum Minister while Mallam Nuhu Ribadu will take the position of Defence Minister and Mallam El-Rufai Works Minister. Oby Ezekwesili will be offered the position of Finance Minister in the proposed APC cabinet. Governor Babangida Aliyu will emerge as Foreign Affairs Minister, Tom Ikimi will get the position of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Minister while Attorney General of the Federation goes to Muiz Banire, a lackey of Tinubu. The APC recently named members of its National Working Committee, NWC, with Chief Bisi Akande emerging as acting National Chairman. Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Masari, and the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Mallam Nasiru el-Rufai were also nominated by the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, to serve as members of the National Working Committee, NWC, of the yet-to-be registered All Progressives Congress, APC. Other officers nominated for APC interim leadership include the National Woman Leader, Mrs. Sharon Chiazor; National Youth Leader, Mr. A. Lado, National Vice Chairman (North Central), General Aboki (rtd); National Deputy Auditor, Captain Bala Jibril and an ex- officio member, Hon. Musa. |
