One of the factors behind late presentation are idiots claiming to be doctors. Back then when I was doing my M2 posting in neurology unit I remember a 12 yr old girl was brought in. The girl was treated by a pharamcist for 5 weeks for persistent malaria instead of meningitis just because he was able to elicit headache and fever being a quack claiming to be a doctor, he couldn't elicit kernigs and brudzinki's sign of meningitis and only referred the parents to the hospital after d girl has develop cranial nerve 8 palsy(sensorineural deafness). Neurologists are not magicians... use of corticosteriods has limits to wic it can remedy the situation..the girl has to go deaf for life....when they get home they will spread falsehood that Nigerian doctors are duns while actually d fault is traceable to the d idiot that calls himself pharmacist. Just a course of ceftriaxone 2g iv 2x/d for 12 days could have prevented the damage. Even the best doctor in d world cant reverse that damage.
Do u ever reason why UK health sector is perfect? The government pays everything. Health checkups are free. The patient goes freely to the hospital to see a 'doctor' not a quack claiming doctor.
Imagine an idiot calling himself a pharmacist saying the only difference btw them and a doctor is surgery. What do u know about morbid pathology,chemical pathology,hematology,cardiology,neurology,O&G,paediatrics,rheumatology,nephrology,pulmonolgy,psychiatry,gastroenterology?

A medlab lab scientist claims to be equivalent in knowledge with a physician but forgets that diagnosis of most lifethreatening conditions are made on clinical grounds ,laboratory tests being only confirmatory. Ofcourse a physician doesn't need laboratory results to diagnose Rheumatoid fever,meningitis, cerebrovascular insult,Congestive cardiac failure,Infective Endocarditis, passive congestion of liver, testicular torsion, and etc. Infact 90% of diagnosis in neurology are made accurately on clinical grounds alone.
Johesuites don't know the kind of favour they are abusing. The day a medical doctor becomes president of Nigeria that is the day that the 1:3 relativity obtainable in uk will be restored and the place of a medical doctor in the health sector not rivalled by idiots.

During my internship I witnessed a patient die through administration of wrong blood type by a house officer. That blood was crossmatched by a physician (pathologist) working in the laboratory during call.

In another case, a house officer administered a wrong drug preparation on a patient with hepatitis at the emergency and the patient died within few minutes. His senior colleagues told the relatives he was brought in late, called the HO into the office privately, scolded him and made him understand he killed the patient, they also asked him where he graduated from. It was dramatic but how would I feel it were my relative I asked myself.
I was privy to all these because I was posted to laboratory at the emergency.

There are so many cases such as these and the day Nigerian patients start asking real questions about the death of their relatives in Nigerian hospitals such as seeking second opinions and litigations. Many overglorified charlatans who call themselves physicians will be cooling off in jails for professional malpractice after losing their licenses.

I laugh at Nigerian medical doctors. They always claim to know it all, yet our politicians and wealthy elites go abroad to treat malaria!

A good number of deaths in nigerians hospitals can be traceable to physicians and their incompetencies. When the patients die they usually tell the patients' relatives 'they were brought in late'. I've witnessed a couple of such cases first hand.

Another friend recently migrated to Australia after writting and passing the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists (AIMS) exams as an Internationally trained Medical Scientist. Infact he moved with his family. But many physician travel from nigeria but go over there to seek pharmacy assistants and phlebotomists jobs or at worst cab driving jobs to keep body and soul together while they struggle to write and pass exams.

A Radiographer is a medical professional as he provides medical imaging.

Now, a paramedical is an emergency medical worker.

For those who may wish to know.A Medical doctor is someone who has spent ,in the case of nigeria,six Non-semester structured years which is equivalent to 292 week's cummulatively.
He/she did indepth basic medical course vis-a-vis Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry) just like other paramedicals.Within this period of 292 weebjks ,He/she also underwent comprehensive training in Laboratory medicine(Chemical pathology,haematology, medical microbiology and histopathology),the medical lab technology/science is mainly the TECHNICAL part of Lab medicine.The doctor went further to do Pharmacology,which is a part of pharmacy.Pharmacists does this too plus other aspect of Pharmacy.
The doctor also did Ophthalmology, optometry is mainly the TECHNICAL part of ophthalmology.He/she did Radiology, Radiography is the TECHNICAL part of Radiology,the doctor did Orthopedics, Physiotherapy is the TECHNICAL part of Orthopedics.In addition to doing what paramedics do,the doctor did paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology,surgery and medicine(in their totality,not just knowing definition of topics in these courses).Via practical knowledge,the doctor has indepth knowledge of wound dressing, giving injections (in tertiary institutions, doctors are the only ones allowed to give Intravenous injections), he/she conduct deliveries especially when it is out of the competency of nurses(midwives).
While in Medical school, correction factor is used for scoring doctors,what that means is that if a medic (a doctor-to-be) scores 65 % in exam, applying correction factor will bring the score down to 50%(this is the standard,so as to help prune down the number of those that passed).A pass mark for a medical student in the university is 50%(others is 40%). Medicine is not rated like others where they have first class, second class or third class,it is either pass or fail and withdraw for Medicine (Remember 50% using correction factor which is equivalent to 60% and above in the real sense is the pass mark for Medicine).
It should be noted that it takes a 5-semester structured years which is about 165weeks to do either Med lab science,Bsc nursing, Pharmacy etc but 6-NON semester structured years for medicine which is equivalent to 292 weeks.The above shows that the 3-4months break period in a year in the university is not applicable in medicine,any body who went through medical school and still has his/her conscience knows this simple truth. To obtain a PhD,it takes 272weeks from the first day into the university..
Medicine is the only course in the university that paramedicals degrees e.g B.med lab,Bsc nursing,Bsc Physiotherapy, degree in optometry etc is used as a prerequisite for admission.In countries like US,one must obtain a degree in paramedicals to be qualified to study medicine.

THIS IS WHY THE DOCTOR IS IN CHARGE OF MEDICAL TEAM,NOT ONLY IN NIGERIA.

I have a friend (was my room mate while in medical school) he finished medicine and travelled abroad and was shocked that he would not be even allowed to practice as a phlebotomist (a job below the level of laboratory assistant in the medical laboratory hierachy) without adequate certification. He thought his 'almighty' nigerian MBBS degree covered that already.
