Sleekfingers: I strongly disagree with you....some states can build refineries. It might take 4- 8years, depending on the capacity. And still have some money to do other projects. Rivers, Kaduna, Delta and Lagos can do it. The last time I checked, they can apply for loan for such project. Unless they will end up doing another modular refinery through the amount of loans each is liable to procure (safe Lagos)but WITH PPP (especially BOOT with multi billion dollars partners), STATES LIKE LAGOS, RIVERS, AKWA IBOM would get it done. Secondly, building a modern refinery takes a hell lots of engineering works that head into a long span of time. Like your skyscraper (with the timeframe for completion of concrete works always ranging between 4-6 years and then claddings of interior and exterior that adds a year and a half more), you must have gotten all fund available to forestall expanded time of construction and there's hardly many lenders out there who would be patient for such 6-8 years before you start servicing your loan, let alone starting to repay |

Sleekfingers: Nigeria state governors are clueless. Can't states governors build their refineries? Especially states like Rivers, Lagos Delta, Akwa ibom, ondo, imo, bayelsa and that useless state Edi state. Nigeria still got a long way to go. No state would be able to afford to concentrate such enormous amount of money on just one project that would take years to come on stream and debar them opportunity to work on other sectors YOU would also complain when every other infrastructures deteriorate or is not built because there's no money. |

USA and murder Overall crime driven down across New York City in June as shootings, murders, robberies, burglaries, and hate crimes continue to fall For the month of June 2023, New York City saw a 16.8% drop in shooting incidents compared to June 2022 (104 v. 125). The decrease in shootings extends the 24.7% decrease in shooting incidents citywide through the first half of calendar 2023 compared to the same period a year ago (482 v. 636) – meaning 196 fewer people have been shot this year compared to last year. Additionally, homicides fell by 3.1% (31 v. 32) for the month of June 2023. The shooting declines reflect the combined sum of the NYPD’s gun-violence reduction strategies and help in allowing every community in New York City to prosper. The NYPD is focusing tirelessly on combating gun violence and leveraging partnerships to assist in that important work. In June 2023, the department continued to make historic numbers of gun arrests – 345 arrests resulting in 300 firearms seized for the month. Overall, NYPD officers have seized 3,424 guns from the streets of New York City and made 2,162 gun arrests through the first six months of 2023. Overall index crime was driven down by 3.9% in June 2023 (10,793 v. 11,235) compared to the same period a year ago. New York City saw a drop in five of the seven index crime categories in June 2023, including a 3.1% reduction in homicide, a 24.1% drop in rape (107 v. 141), a 9.2% decline in robbery (1,419 v. 1,563), and a 24.8% decline in burglary (986 v. 1,311). Hate crimes citywide declined by 18% (47 v. 57) compared to last year. At the same time, grand larceny auto increased by 22.8% (1,391 v. 1,133), driven by the theft of motorcycles and the well-documented exploitation of vulnerabilities in the ignition system of certain Kia and Hyundai models. In the city’s subway system, robberies decreased by 18.4% (40 v. 49) in June, though major crime in transit increased 18.2% (195 v. 165) for the month, driven by non- confrontational property thefts of opportunity. Notable is that New York City has seen a 4.4% decrease (1,093 v. 1,143) in major crime in transit through the first six months of 2023, reflecting the ongoing work to improve the subway system’s overall public-safety landscape. Additionally, NYPD officers in the transit system have effected 67% more arrests for edged weapons (673 v. 402) so far this year, and 27% more arrests for firearms (19 v. 15) – work that showcases the department’s proactive engagement that serves to enhance public safety in the city’s vital public transportation system. As in May, this month’s decline in burglaries included decreases in the burglaries of both residences and commercial establishments. And retail theft – otherwise known as shoplifting – also continued its decline in June 2023 by 7.4% (5,326 v.5,749), as the NYPD maintained its focus on ensuring public safety in the city’s busy commercial corridors and business districts. Through the first six months of 2023, New York City has seen reductions in five of the seven index crime categories, including murder down 7.9% (199 v. 216), rape down 9.9% (729 v. 809), robbery down 4.8% (7,789 v. 8,180), burglary down 9.9% (6,877 v. 7,635), and grand larceny down 1.3% (24,334 v. 24,664). Since the start of the Summer Violence Reduction Plan in May, major crime in the involved deployment zones has been driven down by more than 13% compared to last year and shootings have declined by nearly 12%, mirroring the continuing decline in shootings citywide. The women and men of the NYPD remain steadfast in their ongoing efforts to drive down crime, improve the quality of life in New York City, and earn the confidence of those who live in, work in, and visit the city. In June 2023, NYPD officers made 4,589 arrests in the seven major crime categories, a 9.3% increase compared to the number of such arrests in the same period last year. In the first six months of this year, officers have made 25,995 such arrests – the most for any half-year period since calendar 2000. “Wherever crime lingers in our city, the women and men of the NYPD are facing it head-on, concentrating their efforts in the neighborhoods that need them the most,” said Acting Police Commissioner Edward A. Caban. “As we look back on the first half of this year, we can see steady progress in the NYPD’s fight against violence and disorder – a level of commitment that will continue with renewed focus as we head into the summer months. Our good work continues and our promise to the people we serve is clear: We will never waver in our public safety mission to keep every New Yorker, in every New York City neighborhood, safe and free from fear.” NOTE THAT THE ARTICLE ABOVE ONLY COVERS THE NEW YORK CITY NOT THE ENTIRE GREATER NEW YORK METROPOLIS |

olatuns2017: Statesman and highly respected Nwabueze passed on this week. A great loss to the legal profession in Nigeria. Baba was Ironsi's lawyer who changed our regional constitution to unitary law in 1966 and took all authorities to the centre. We are still battling with it till today. It was a great disservice to humanity.
In honouring this luminary, I urge our national assembly and state assemblies to look into the issue of true federalism as it was Pre-1966 before Nwabueze's unitary constitution and restore the country to factory settings. This will be a great honour and deserving tribute to this hero of our time who passed on Monday.
Continue to rest in peace Baba, we loved you so much. Thank goodness you know who tore up the REGIONAL constitution for UNITARY one under FEDERAL SYSTEM. And I'm sure you know the tribe they all belong to. Quite fine, if, they're deemed our HEROES but nobody should wail to others over the COMMITMENT the people percieved as heroes made. They should rather enjoy it. AND make no mistake, no body will bend to your wish /bully to reverse their mistake. |

Thought they already had an accepted company's proposal for the 4th Mainland Bridge under BOOT PPP and that the blue line rail phase two would be built with revenue from phase one of it IF the banks are just financial partners, it's understandable for the blue line but outsourcing for funding for the 4th MB should be the headache of the investors, not LASG |

Many who wanted WIKE's head over this FUBARA's confrontation seems to have gotten the FCT minister name in their black book before hence the reason they readily accepted him as the VILLIAN in the case, none cares to get WIKE's audience and hear out his side of the story before taking side, especially when only FUBARA is the one vocally outspoken about this.
Imagine, this one even prayed the president should wade into the matter solely to his bidding by removing the minister, the president he himself had always critisizes and disregard. Perhaps he's suffered a stretch of amnesia. |

nurudeen181: i no say fire dey burn ontop water, but lagos island suppose don create avenue to take dey use the water at their enclose to tackle fire disaster eventhough i know say government no go do anything about that, the people, the community should.. i wont be surprised if drinking water is also a problem there... First of, the LASG fire fighters is the most swift and efficient in the nation. If you read the article properly, you'd seen where the management of lagos fire service said they contained the outbreak to the only last floors of the buildings it affected while they arrived. That's efficient and effective service if you ask me Secondly, why do we as Nigerians love to blame the result of our abject irresponsibility on the government all the time? LASG had outlawed the fireworks but people not only spent millions to import it despite but the populace also patronise it as if their YULETUDE wouldn't be completed without it. And here you are, putting blame on the government for the fault of one ID!OT. The developers of properties for market are at fault too. All those market buildings ain't built with SAFETY and disaster control in mind. Each building is always (literally) kissing the others, left, right, back and front. So there's absolutely no way a fire outbreak or building collapse won't affect another. What's more? None of those building have water sprinklers installed to address fire issues, many don't even get toilet and many that get toilet are built to eject the waste into the drain around it, bringing up environmental pollution within the neighborhood. Lastly, the shop/store owners ain't helping themselves too. I haven't come across a single shop that take preventive measures really seriously. NO one bothers to procure Fire extinguishers for his/er shop or store, bales of clothes, plastic, paper, wooden products, batteries and other inflammables are heavily stored around electric components in stores or shop , and some still have the gut to lit candles in their stores at nights. Yet the moment the result of these idiotic acts happens, some of you ignore the cause and started causing the government. We as individuals have to be responsible if we want a good life. TinubuDeDrugLor: Not a coincidence. Its a deliberately ignited fire courtesy of some Yoruba terrorists. Nigeria is not one and can never be.
One Nigeria indeed. With this comment of yours, it shows you don't know a JACK about the LAGOS you love to critisize. The market and many around it are dominated by the YORUBAS but since it's about a bad thing, then it has to be conspiracy against the IGBOS to you AN objective mindset look for the slightest opportunity in every problem but a C0ND*MNED mindset only see problems in every opportunity. |

The system is to accommodate Bellingham's abilities but somewhat hinders Vini and Rodrygo's abilities. Nice observation. The lad is good, quite fine, but the team seems to be playing around his tempo and style of play which on the long run may be disastrous as the silence of BELLINGHAM in any match would leave the team scrambling for other idea they ain't been training for. They should rather find a way to put everyone's optimal strenght to use game per game and also hope JUDE remains as fit, decisive and prolific.
