guy222:This is why I tell you guys Lagos is irrelevant. The ports in Benin republic generated much of her revenue at the expense of ports in Nigeria and much the revenue Benin republic generated was from oil money. Do you think Benin republic was stupid to wait until Nigeria joined ACFTA before they joined? Have you asked yourself why Benin republic earns from her ports whenever Nigerian ports earn less? Do you realise that Benin and Togolese ports are mainly transit ports? |
0m0nnakoda:That's why I told you Buhari can decide to stop the 'party's in Lagos any day, any time. In the case of Obajana or the other examples in highlighted, the narrative is different. You can't move Obajana plant to Kano or Osun. Lagos is an overhyped slum. You are talking about DSTV being based in Lagos let me by your same anology remind you that DSTV is a South-African Company and as such has a miniscule presence in Lagos so we talking of relevance of an economy because of DSTV we shouldn't be talking about Lagos. In finance Companies do not necessarily need the Capital market. For example Dell left the Capital Market. Amazon and Microsoft are on the Capital Market they are traded in New York but based in Seattle. It also doesn't mean that all the money in the market are raised where the market is based or spent there. To make noise about about a Capital market of less than 400 listed companies, and less than 50 companies shares being actively traded it is a joke to claim Nigeria has a Capital market. |
0m0nnakoda:To start with, there will be no VAT at the Nigerian Stock exchange if there is no plant at Obajana and there will be no plant in Obajana without gas from the Niger Delta. Dangote could trade his cement shares on another stock exchange. Apart from that Dangote cement could have chosen to remain a private company. They don't need Lagos but they Obajana and the communities that provide Obajana gas. Lagos is dispensible at any given time. If Buhari decides to move the Nigerian stock exchange from Lagos to Abuja the companies will follow suit. PZ Cussons moved to Ghana, that should tell you have irrelevant Lagos is. |
abnot:Yoruba or not you are uninformed! Who cares? Most of those you mentioned invested in Lagos when it was Nigeria's federal capital territory. They did not invest there because it was way better than their respective states. Crime rate in Lagos is way higher than virtually all the states in the Niger Delta. That Dangote choose to build his refinery in Lagos is not a yardstick on safety. You are too ignorant! The only functional private refinery is located in Rivers state. Since you claim Dangote situated his refinery in Lagos because of insecurity why did the same Dangote buy oil blocs in the same Rivers state you claim to be less secure in comparison with Lagos. Why should Rivers state be a country? The various ethnic nations in Rivers can have their countries if they so please. Must they be bound by the boundaries created by Nigeria? |
0m0nnakoda:I am done with you! You are too ignorant. Those two words you called big grammar are everything when talking about an economy. It is obvious you won't understand so I better end it here. There are certain aspects even parts of Northern Nigeria are of more value to Nigeria's economy than Lagos. Take Dangote cement for instance, the business relies on the Niger Delta and Northern Nigeria. Now, that Dangote cement has their main office in Lagos and that some of his workers are paying VAT in Lagos does not mean Lagos adds value to the operations of Dangote cement. This should explain how Lagos economy is nonexistent within the Nigerian context. I can't try to explain any further because it would probably be too complex for you to understand. |
0m0nnakoda:I used your so called facts to point how wrong you on Nigeria's earnings. I didn't even make a summary on how Nigeria's economy operates and you are already calling it a sermon because of your ignorance. Let me not complicate issues for you because probably won't understand it. The Naira has no intrinsic value outside of Nigeria. You can't use Naira to buy dollar or any other currency outside Nigeria. Meaning that you have a commodity being used in place of Naira when such transactions are carried out. In a nutshell, Naira a legal tender just to be politically correct but in reality, commodities like Bonny light are your actual legal tender. Anyone with faint understanding of basic monetary and fiscal policies would know why Nigeria was downgraded to junk status immediately oil prices slumped. |
This country is finished! |
0m0nnakoda:VAT on what goods or services? How are those goods or services independent of oil revenue? You did mention ports and customs. What goods and services passed through those entry or exit ports? What was the value of goods and services that were imported or exported without the use of earnings from the oil and gas sector? The VAT you calculated is less $4 billion. Meaning that Nigeria's gross earnings from crude oil at the rate of $20 per barrel in a quarter ( 3months) exceeds what she earned from VAT last year even when the price of oil was at least double what it is today. |
0m0nnakoda:Simple, if Lagos is that rich they should bailout Buhari's government. The GDP figure you for Lagos is exaggerated. If Lagos was strong, it reflect in the revenue that state generates. You failed also include the revenue Lagos generates because you know there is NONE! Oil and gas accounts more than 80 percent of revenue, 90 percent foreign exchange earnings is from oil and gas. Even the industrial sector of Nigeria is heavily dependent on regions outside the south West so what does have to arrive at the figures you are claiming? If Lagos is as important as you claimed, why is the Lagos crowd always nervous about the success or growth of other areas in the South? |
Whosoever wants to know why my state is more important than Lagos should kindly ask Buhari and his economic team why they had to reverse his budget downwards on two occasions in less than 3 weeks as oil prices dropped. When you are done asking come back and tell me how important Lagos is and how she earns her revenue. In the meantime let me repeat what Wike said to some citizens of his state, " ntor", "ntor", "ntor".... The Wile that he take development to only section of state and heaven will not fall is now crying wolf because people have given him a portion of his medicine! First to do no dey pain! "Ntor"....Go to Lagos take the money. |
Lagosfinder:What makes Lagos special? If states are special Lagos cannot in anyway be more special than my home state, Rivers. |
Can't Chad and Niger adopt some parts of Nigeria so that some people can live in some form of human dignity? "I will defeat Bokoharam in 6 months" see am! It is is getting close to 5 years. If it is how to forcefully infect civilians with Hiv/Aids Nigeria's army will know how to boast. Sotay sotay Bokoharam has "correctional facilities" for Nigeria Army....chaiiii! |
HopeAtHand:1. Like I said before, you are ignorant on who Ijaw people are, the states and LGAs they are found in and I am not about to educate you on that. 2.To say that Diezani is the most corrupt minister under Nigeria's democracy is a fallacy! Under Obasanjo as petroleum minister Nigeria had international corruption cases that the prosecution hampered by the immunity the petroleum minister enjoyed as president. Since Buhari became petroleum minister in 2015, there have been no records on Nigeria's oil sales unlike under previous administrations. Diezani tried to bring transparency into the subsidy payment regime. It is one reasons she was blackmailed and gorged out of office. Diezani got what she deserved because she chose serving to the detriment of the Ijaw nation. She had a good in shell that she dropped to serve an undeserving country called Nigeria. If Diezani had by chance fallen short of the law the US would have applied for her extradition. The Nigerian 'businessman' who happened to be based in America and had the subsidy payment regime was prosecuted in America. In the UK Nigeria has not been able to make any substantial case against Diezani. In the sane world legal cases are made and judgements made based on the respective laws. Not on the basis of rumours, ethnicity, religion, gender and blackmail. Let's start with electricity for example, Bayelsa out of Nigeria's 36 states was only state Nigeria's central government refused to connect to their national grid. After Bayelsa had created her electricity for her citizens they were now forced into the national grid. If you don't understand Nigeria's laws and how it affects people despite their efforts just keep quiet or get informed. Ijaw people's expectations are relatively high in comparison with the average Nigerians and as such we expect more. If we compare what Ijaw have done in Bayelsa since they started governing Bayelsa it is more than what Nigeria has done for Ijaw people in over 60 years. Have Bayelsa done much with the little they recieved? Yes. Do Ijaw people have higher expectations than what is currently obtainable? Yes. Can more be done? Yes. Has Bayelsa done worse than other states in Nigeria? No. The infrastructure most states in Nigeria enjoy is obtained at the expense of Bayelsa. For a Nigerian to question what Bayelsa has can only be instigated by ignorance, wickedness or an undeserved feeling of entitlement. |
Thetruthshallse:They were stupid, short and simple! |
HopeAtHand:That is not true! Ijaw have enjoyed the least benefit in comparison to their size and financial contribution. Being president isn't a reward, it is supposed to be a position to serve. Ijaw people have always called for resource control, fiscal federalism and environmental conservation not political positions. They didn't have support from governors. A few individuals from other ethnic nations lent their support. However, ethnic and political blocs clearly said they[other Niger Deltans] are 'peace loving' and that the Nigerian state should reward them for not being part of the struggle. Some went as far as referring to the struggle as an Ijaw struggle. Calling for the Ijaws to desist from calling it a Niger Delta struggle. Jonathan's presidency did not favour Ijaw people because all the things Ijaw people were fighting for was never passed by Nigeria's parliament. The Ijaw nation is the fourth largest ethnic nation in Nigeria. Does it make sense for the fourth largest ethnic nation to be minorities in all the states they are found except Bayelsa? The problem is most Nigerians don't even know who the Ijaws are. Ironically there are places Ijaws have larger/more LGAs than Bayelsa most Nigerians fantasise on. To start with, Akpabio is Niger Delta minister not NDDC boss. It has never been about Akpabio, it has always been about fulfilling the mandate of NDDC. Ijaw people have been always outspoken, we never campaigned for NDDC or Niger Delta Ministry because we knew they all end like OMPADEC, organisations created to distract from the main issues. Even when our people were in charge people always registered their displeasure and they've always carried others along. In recent history Goodluck Jonathan was the only president who didn't appoint himself as Nigeria's petroleum minister yet you guys won't let Ijaw people rest. The Fulani and Yoruba people who gave themselves oil blocs, gave tailors and hairdressers oil blocs are the people you go round to shake with two hands and a bow yet you always have the temerity to have an opinion on Ijaw people or issues. You guys should grow a spine! |
SocialJustice:If you were not ignorant you would have known the groups that fought, the leadership, their composition and their ethnicity. By the way, "resource control " has not yet happened. Get informed before you get an opinion, ignoramus. Like I told you earlier, you are too ignorant! I will have to start from the 1930s if I need to educate you on these issues. If you don't have a basic grasp of Nigeria's contemporary history since 1999 till date. Since you don't even understand this where do I start educating you from? Too much information, too little time and you are even too proud in your ignorance. You won't be able to learn. I will rather use that time for better things. |
SocialJustice:You are too ignorant to talk on issues like this and I won't even waste my time to educate you on that. Referring to the 1999-2002 timeline as the struggle for resource control shows you are not well versed on the issues. First learn before you take a position on such issues. |
SocialJustice:The NDDC, NDM and even the fact you have a state that gets allocation are all the fruits of Ijaw armed agitation. The 13 percent derivation that your politicians loot is as a result of Ijaw and Ogoni struggle. |
SocialJustice:The other groups have acted as if Ijaw are the only group in the region. It is only " time to chop" the rest of you show up. |
Ewedegubbler:Says who? This una 'handshake' don dey reach elbow. |
SocialJustice:They have every right to cry! Nobody has shouldered the region's struggle as much as they have. If other groups have championed the cause of the region( only exception is Ogoni). The region would have been able to put pressure on the Nigerian state much further. Ijaw people learn how to be ethnic extremists when you have positions of power in Nigeria! If what you accuse senator Akpabio of doing is true, it is what his master, Buhari does too. We are the only group that takes slogans like 'one Nigeria ' or ' Niger Delta solidarity ' serious. Truth is, everyone for himself. That is what is going on. Please make una leave Akpabio. Even if you guys may have a just reason for that, the whole action would probably be misunderstood. |
maybanks:1. " stabilise global oil price" 2. " Make 1 dollar equal to 1 Naira" 3. " Fuel subsidy doesn't exist " 4. " We will stop having the office of the ' first lady'." 5. " we will convert the presidential fleet to a national carrier ". 6. " We will pay unemployment benefits to all unemployed graduates " 7. " I will the lead the fight against Boko Haram". |
AfroKnight:When you settle for the wrong Black woman stress is certain. Unfortunately for those from other races, most Black women who will marry non-Black men have stress as their first name. That is why most of such unions don't last. |
APCNig:Craze dey worry you! Countries that don't have oil nko? Those that have and are doing well nko? Your president is failure personified. Jonathan was in office for 5 years, if after 5 years in office, all your Buhari can do is blame Jonathan or oil price he is a failure. I thought Buhari promised to "stabilise global oil price"! Why didn't he fulfil his campaign promise? You think the whole of Nigeria is daft? If you are, we are not. |
No, Nigeria is facing unprecedented stupidity, selfishness and sloth like attitude from her so called rulers. |
Graysons: ![]() Funny man! I like black women sha, before I was open to everyone except Asians. After a few relationships I have settled for Black women. Despite their flaws I think they are the best for a Black man. |
AfroKnight:Tired old men settle for Black or Asian girls when the kind of White women they wish to be together with won't accept them. Most prefer Asian girls because unlike their African counterparts they are not too demanding when it comes to money. Another thing is the assumption White people have about Black women's sexual organs. They believe it is large, they believe Asian women have smaller organs. They settle for smaller organs and Less stress. |
If I am to choose it will be Ijaw women, Cameroonian women, Yoruba women, Efik women or Southern African women. I wonder what some people look for in White women! |
Ibime: ![]() |
KingAzubuike:So it is not disheartening when soldiers kill our people? The Niger Delta region has suffered so much in the hands of Nigeria, mostly her army. If soldiers who murder civilians are punished severely by the authorities people won't take the laws into their hands but Nigerian authorities always cover up for their recalcitrant personnel |
englishmart:He is sensible not stingy. Most of those donating 1 billion Naira didn't work for it, they got it from government. Peter Obi worked for his. |
