Please just accept that BYS has entered one chance Southern Ijaw is the largest LGA in Nigeria. Do your findings. Mind you, I am from Rivers state so I know Obio/Akpor very well. Bayelsa didn't enter "one chance " as you claim. The supreme court installed a governor for reasons best known to them. The last time they did that was in my home state, Rivers. Amaechi benefited from that miscarriage of justice. |

Nairaland General › Build Up To 2023 by PHijo(op): 10:05am On Mar 05, 2020 |
From all indications, Southern Nigeria's only chance of winning would be tied to the South West withdrawing from the race and supporting the Niger Delta or the South East.
Other than that the other regions would likely back a Northern candidate and that will mean 12 or 16 straight years of Northern rule.
The other regions feel the South West has never been committed to "Southern solidarity " except when they benefit.
This was evident when Tinubu led a Southern governors forum in 2002/2003 in his bid to shore up support for his kinsman, Obasanjo.
Other Southerners didn't enjoy similar privileges even when they performed better than their predecessors.
The South West is the only region that can break the political deadlock in the South but it will entail being selfless. Putting the overall interest of the South above that of the South West.
Time will tell if that could be achieved. |

I will proudly vote for a Yoruba man...
The good news here is that we have a problem and we have accepted the fact that we have a problem and working towards our problems... Unlike some people who keep blaming the north since 1966
We need more of this in the north We will probably vote for a Northerner. We won't vote for somebody from the South West. The one we can trust won't be a candidate. |

If Tinubu is ready for 2023, nothing can stop him, u guys, forgot he has his own loyalist too, Ganduje, senate President( lawan) etc and u will be surprised on the kind of votes that will b coming from SW if he contest, u people never learn. What makes you guys think 8 is less? In fact, in Bayelsa's case it is more, most of her LGAs are bigger than others across the country. That not withstanding the 'loan' is uncalled for. |
Politics › Re: Nigeria Now Tops South Africa As The Continent's Biggest Economy by PHijo(m): 11:27pm On Mar 04, 2020 |
Rossinnki: Nothing to be ashamed of. South Africa began developing at least a century before Nigeria. Unlike in SA, the colonialists came to Nigeria to loot and build nothing. Our first power plant, Kainji Dam, was commissioned in 1964 by Balewa. Our first university, Ibadan, was in 1962. SA has been building all those things, plus engineering factories and industries, from the EARLY 1800s.
The colonialists reinvested export proceeds into the country right from the start because of the large white settler population there who considered it their country. That is why they are ahead of other African nations today. Still that is no excuse. Rwanda gain independence after Nigeria, same with Kenya. Nigerians have refused to tell themselves the truth about their country and the way forward. |

Magicians: OK I understand you n do wish for the same thing but all I am asking is all these things you claim Nigeria lacks that can propel it to double digit economic growth since it is not only Nigeria that lack such please give us one name of any economy that lack suck n is growing at the double digit you believe Nigeria can grow at or you expect us to accept your deluded nightmare as a reality we must or can achieve with boko Haram, militancy banditry plaguing the country ?!
That is all I ask not another tales of woes or delusion as to how Nigeria can grow at triple digit because someone just woke up from Utopia. Between 2010 and 2019, Ethopia has maintained a growth rate between 7.7 percent and 10.5 percent. Ethopia is not resource rich, meaning Nigeria could even grow much faster with her resources. If you talk about instability, Ethopia has her fair share. The Oromo and Somali areas have had their issues with the Ethopian state, there was an attempted coup not long ago. There have been 3 changes in leadership in less than 10 years. So the underlying fact is that Buhari is the problem. If he couldn't sustain growth he is the problem. Jonathan sustained growth within the 6 to 10 percent range despite having had to face Boko Haram insurgency. When you understand the Nigerian economy and her ethnic complexities, making the economy function is not too hard. |

Em5: Before you go on to mislead people with your misguided analysis you missed to factor in the role slump in oil price played. In 2014 the price of crude oil was ~$93/barrel hence the robust $509bn economy, fast forward 2019 the price of crude is ~$50/barrel. If your salary was N93k and later dropped to N50k per month will your economy still be the same? Will you still be able to afford chicken everyday?
This is coming after the crash of oil price in 2016 which saw many oil dependent economies slip into recession including Nigeria. While other countries are still battling to survive the recession Nigeria has since come out of the recession and is making gradual steady progress.
Please, be guided. Nigeria's problem was not the fall in oil price but Buhari's incompetence. We are not the only oil producing country in the world. He failed to do the right things. Emefiele was dealing with monetary policy but he failed to get support from Buhari on the fiscal side. |

Magicians: Na mouth dem de use propel GDP growth. Which world economy is growing at over 10% ? So for your mind Nigeria na 'world economy '? How man percent of global GDP does Nigeria account for? Do you know South Africa and Egypt have much larger capital markets in comparison with Nigeria's? Do you know South Africa, Morocco and Egypt all have banking sectors that are much larger than Nigeria's? They all have functional aviation hubs, Nigeria doesn't. What this means is that even based on African standards Nigeria is backwards. Since Nigeria is backwards, there is room for double digit growth if those in charge embark on the right reforms and support the process with fiscal stimulus. |

We wailers can't stop crying after hearing good news.
Another will still join you with "audio economy" even if the source is Bloomberg. What is the 'good news' ? Until Nigeria grows between 7-12 percent the news is not good! Our population is growing by 3 percent per annum. 2 percent growth is way below our population growth figures. What annoying is that our growth rate is not strong because of Buhari's gross incompetence. If we had competent hands in charge, 6 percent would have been realistic for last year, 9-11 percent for this year and then we try to sustain growth in the 10 percent range for at least a decade. We need double digit growth for at least a decade to reduce poverty in Nigeria to the barest minimum. |
