Family / Re: Divorce - Why Cant Women Say "I M Sorry"? by Philolos: 3:11pm On Apr 26, 2013 |
@True NaijaBwoy / Chief, Please tread with caution. We can only empathize with your situation but you are the one sleeping and waking up in your relationship. However, when you claim you love your wife, it doesn't come across as sincere because if you really do, divorce would not even come to your mind or hers. You can't love someone today and tomorrow your fall out of love with them. Think about the love your parents have for you or the love you have for your children - that's love. Also reflect and think about when you said your marriage vows – in sickness and in health, till death do us part. Think back. Did you mean it or you are just beginning to process it? Unless you didn't marry her for the love you claim you have for her. Many folks marry for reasons other than love...infatuation, arranged, residency, business, financial, pity, pressure, etc. That said, I have a book from a spiritual teacher that could talk some love or wisdom into the situation you and your wife are going through. The name of the book is "48 Ways to Wisdom" by Rabbi Noah Weinberg. From my mortal and imperfect self, while not meaning to be critical, I see two things: 1. your ego appears to be in play 2. maturity/wisdom - this applies to both your wife and you Borrowed from, “Oga at the top”: That’s all. Good luck. 1 Like |
Romance / Re: Is It Normal For A Male Virgin To Have Wet Dreams? by Philolos: 2:30pm On Apr 22, 2013 |
OP @roli21: It's a normal phenomenon - it starts happening once boys reach puberty. It also happens regardless of being a virgin or not. Men with regular intercourse partners have it too... So, just in case you are wondering, there is nothing wrong with you. Having intercourse now will not stop it from happening once in a while... 1 Like |
Education / Re: Pursuing Professional Exams Or Master Degree: Which Is Better? by Philolos: 2:14pm On Apr 15, 2013 |
Slickest: Hello my dignified nairalanders,I have been in a confused state lately based on this phenomenon of masters or professional exam after your bsc program. With the advent of technology, you'll need both in today's competitive marketplace. I would suggest obtaining an M.Sc first and shortly after go after relevant certification(s). Most professional certification bodies now require that members re-certify every so often. So get the masters out of the way and certification or re-certification can go on for as long. In addition, depending on the profession you are in, you may also find yourself having to obtain a couple of masters degrees especially if you are just starting out today. If you currently have a technical degree/masters degree, a business degree (an MBA) can support your climb into upper management. It's not needed, but there's a chance you'll be taken more seriously if you have it. |

Politics / Re: Should I Return To Nigeria? by Philolos: 4:51pm On Apr 04, 2013 |
@OP/Chief: home is where you make it. Some of our fathers studied abroad in the 1950 to early 1970s with the option of staying abroad or coming back to Nigeria. I have to tell you that a lot of those who returned didn't do too well over time in Nigeria. While this is not an argument for staying abroad, home is where you make it. Since you have a family, it is not about your feelings alone. You have to think about your family's happiness and safety. You also have to factor in your kids' education. Can you afford a private school? Moreover, if your wife is reluctant to moving to Nigeria now, I would advice caution... my 2 kobo. 1 Like |
Investment / Re: NSE Orders Stockbrokers To Stop Informing Their Clients by Philolos: 6:29pm On Mar 20, 2013 |
Source: http://www.punchng.com/business/capital-market/nse-stops-operators-from-distributing-market-information/[/quote] This is good news for the clients and potential investors. It would go a long way in increasing the amount of confidence local and foreign investors have in our capital markets. Good job NSE! However, let's give the NSE the benefit of the doubt here. Perhaps the NSE cares too much about a public that is armed with the internet and is too smart/learned to handle additional information from their stockbrokers. Too late mate... The country as a whole scores an “A” in going backwards. A party should now come into formation called the Peoples Retrogression Party (PRP). There is at least honesty in the party name and there is no need for additional slogans. |

I beg, we need OGA AT THE TOP to step aside for this man. This officer has a major achievement to declare: putting NSCDC on the map/internet. Perhaps most of us didn't even know NSCDC existed prior to this interview. Depending on how the pundits look at this matter, this officer has brought NSCDC (sh)FAME. |

naptu2: "Did you threaten to overrule him?" Nice video. I’m adding this video to my library of moves on how not to be cornered. Mr. Guguru Defense was obviously not cornered. He was with his pants down in a public place. He is, indeed, a daft and shameless man. |

berryjay: Those presenters should be seriously queried,if the know deir duty and proffesional ethics well, they should have known that its a national Tv for crying out loud, we all agree dat d man messed up and really portrayed the decaying state of the economy, the presenters too, sensing disaster , should hve covered up immediately by supplying the .org, .gov or .com as d case might be.. So that some illitrate members of the public can learn... Dats d purpose of d whole presentation in d first place, to enlighten d public.. Are you suggesting "cover-up" journalism? The interviewers were performing investigative journalism, and when they smelt a rat they went for the kill. I think that should be the minimum standard. In my opinion, they did well by letting the question hang and not even calling him on it on the show, by saying, "Mr. Guguru Defense, such a website does not exist sir." They could have chosen to school the guy by telling him "all websites end with a domain name, ".com", ".org", ".gov", ".biz", ".net", etc. We need more journalists like the ones on Channels TV to help shine some light in all dark places and corners of our public institutions. |

How is he going to resign? Jobs like that are not easy to come by. I doubt oga at the top would have done a better job. He was probably their best spokes person. The guy depicts the states, the federal government, our education systems, all the institutions. We have just found the right image to all ride on. |

That's it! Ladies and gentlemen of NL: NSCDS will no longer give interviews to the press. I feel we have been misrepresented and categorically misinterpreted. Consequently, I am taking this opportunity to let you know that if MY OGA AT THE TOP, I, and/or any of my compatriots see any pressmen or women either dressed as Channel TV, NTV, CNN, ITV, BBC, we would RUN. I'm just warning you. Hmmmm A disclaimer from the press office of the NSCDC, website: http://NSCDC.whaterver.myogathetopcomdom.sudall |

Pain: I Love this Guy. He should run for President in 2015 I concur. The party that backs him doesn't have to spend a dime on Marketing. I would actually vote for him. To hell with competence; let's have some comedy called FUN. At the moment, we have neither. This would bring some change to the scene: some fun, and later we can CATEGORICALLY decide to get serious and fix some real problems that face us as a nation - WHEN THIS GUY BECOMES OUR OGA AT THE TOP. |
Investment / Re: When A Share Is On Steady Decline, What To Do? by Philolos: 4:45pm On Mar 13, 2013 |
val_dubem: If you purchase a share and its value is always on the decline, is it worthy to dispose (sell) off the share/s and make small money or just have hope that it will someday pick-up in value? @OP, if I interpret your post literary, it would suggest that you already have a strategy. Otherwise, why would you buy a stock that is always on the decline unless you expect it to bottom out at some point before beginning to rise again? In general, you should have a strategy towards investing depending on whether you are risk adverse or not. The fact that you are investing in stocks would suggest that you do have some tolerance for risk meaning that while you may make money, you should also be ready to lose all your money. That said, if you are doing this with a broker, let the broker do the worrying for you. Otherwise, only invest in what you know; that way, you are well aware of when to exit from a particular stock. In addition, you can better differentiate from the noise, market forces, etc... |
Romance / Re: Some Ladies Tolerate Abusive Relationships: Why? by Philolos: 1:57pm On Mar 12, 2013 |
Caracta: He beats you black and blue, yet you stick with him like your life depends on it. The act or attempt of hitting/beating shouldn't be tolerated from a boyfriend, husband, brother, uncle, etc. It is accepted by some girls/women partly because of low self-esteem and some may have been brought up in an abusive home to think it is okay to hit or beat up a woman. The same goes for men. Some of our brothers/men have witness their dads using their mothers as punching bag and think they have to do the same to any woman they are with. Although, not all men that witness their dads doing this follow in their footsteps. Our society and laws also need beefing up to protect women...currently a work in progress. |

OP, you left out the fact that the act of marrying a family member's widow is part of the tradition within some places in the Yoruba land, which is still in practice today. This however, conflicts with the Christianity faith you currently embrace. Either way, one looks at your case there are ramifications involved if the suggestion is implemented. Some of which have already be detailed on NL. My broda, you are the best judge. I happen to come from a place where this is practiced, but I don’t subscribe to it. You can say, I’m going against my tradition. So, come and arrest me. I don't think anyone on NL can really help you on this one. You have all the facts surrounding your case/situation. You are also the best judge of should you go with your heart, your faith, tradition, what folks are saying or what folks would think, or who even cares? After all, I'm only going to live my life once, or twice? Who knows? |

f18spitfire: You wear engagement ring for five years, wetin self you be lord of the rings....Engagement ring is a short-term deal. In finance, this is typically 12 months or less. A marriage, however, is more than a financial deal but its precursor, engagement phase, should last no longer than 12 months or thereabout. The 12 months is used really to plan a wedding, know the future in-laws, etc. A small wedding may mean marriage in less than 6 months after engagement ring is worn. @OP, are you expecting to be engaged soon? Congrats in advance! |

If you are applying for a white-collar job and it outside the Silicon Valley area - meaning Nigeria, UK and elsewhere, you need a suit. mariannlove: jst want to knw if its compulsory for one to wear suit to an interview/apptiude test. Pls ur contributions wil be highly appreciated as am preparin for an interview. It's a nice thought provoking question. Must one be clean, wear shoes, wear clothes, know how to read and write, be well mannered and polite, say “please,” use the word “Sir” or “Ma”? You sound like a very creative mind. Start your own company/business. And those who come and interview, don’t have to bother with the nonsense suit and tie. I’m tired of it myself. Billionaire Richard Branson bucked the suit and tie trend, look at where it got him. He is a billionaire. But don’t blame anyone if you can’t be gainfully employed. If you want to be a rebel, you have to truly believe in the cause, regardless of what the majority say and/or do. Nice one bro. |
