Politics › Re: Peter Obi Blasts Buhari’s Subsidy Policy, Says "We Are Paying For Inefficiency" by PHIPEX(m): 5:16pm On Jan 02, 2019 |
theoldpretender: No one is hanging anything, the reason why subsidy is still there is because Nigerians don't want to pay 250 naira for a liter of fuel.
Even Obi knows that Don't put the blame on Nigerians. Within a year of this govt I paid almost 100% more for fuel than before. Subsidy remains because this govt has gone full cycle with lies. From there is nothing like subsidy to jacking up fuel price to 145 on the lies of removing subsidy. They promised to build new refineries during campaign, now they sit and wait for Dagote to rescue us. They motivated ignorant few to resist subsidy removal I'm 2012, now tell me how wise were they? They should admit they have no single plan in place to run the economy. They are merely paying salaries and waiting for reactionary moves. |
Politics › Re: Peter Obi Blasts Buhari’s Subsidy Policy, Says "We Are Paying For Inefficiency" by PHIPEX(m): 5:04pm On Jan 02, 2019 |
theoldpretender: In addition to Dangote refinery, there are modular refineries, at least 2 of them under construction.
There could be more if we removed subsidies completely so that private investors can come and invest in more refineries It's madness to hang the fate of over 200million people on the private plan of a single man, this govt could pass for the most irresponsible govt in the world. |
Politics › Re: Peter Obi Blasts Buhari’s Subsidy Policy, Says "We Are Paying For Inefficiency" by PHIPEX(m): 4:58pm On Jan 02, 2019 |
Sirjamo: The only way to stop subsidies completely is to get our refineries working again or build new ones, or deregulates the downstream sectors 100% and let the masses bear the costs.
Obi and his boss want to remove subsidies and leave Nigerians to pay more for PMS which will lead to more inflation and make life difficult for us.
Buhari and Osinbajo want to keep subsidies for the mean time until private refineries currently under construction come on board, then, we will be able to stop subsidies completely without creating more economic hardship for the people. A whole govt wants to keep subsidy until a single man finishes his refineries. That's the most useless idea I have heard in 2019. Dangote should be made the president then. Can you remind me the promise of this govt prior to 2015? How subsidy was a scam and how body language made our refineries to work just 2 weeks after taking over the govt. |

Evidently this govt is more dumb than I ever thought. Ordering NBS to change statistics overnight, the same statistics he campaigned with in 2015 is now wrong suddenly for 2019.
The problem with giving leadership to mediocres is that they will proudly lower the standard, set a new inferior culture and still claim right. |

The inability of an average westerner to travel beyond their region makes them think that it's Lagos or no where else. But for Economic reasons, most people will exit Lagos. I once told a friend that the houses in my village is at par with the houses in Ketu, Oshodi etc.
I like the spirit of the book, Nigeria is better off together but tribalism and hate currently being championed by Buhari himself is the greatest threat to our unity. |

"Whom the gods want to destroy they first make mad" those who adviced Buhari to address critical national issues only when he's abroad have ended up ruining his reputation on the global scale.
Believe it or not, when most foreigners see him henceforth they will always wonder if he's real or an impostor. Very sad for a Nigerian president. |

As much as I dislike this govt, ASUU is confused and seem to fight for their pockets alone. They've been going on strike since I was born, what has strike achieved.
Will employer of labour discount the years students waste to ASUU strikes when they place age limitations to job applications? On the average a student in our school: Wasted 1- 2 years looking for admission Wastes 6 - 12 months to ASUU strike Waste 4 - 6 months waiting for NYSC call up letter.
Yet after it all employers will demand for 2yrs work experience at age 24. The Nigeria students are the biggest loser of all these. |

Those labour Union leaders are very foolish people who will go on strike for about 2-3 days and will call off the strike after that.
I think labour Union should also go on strike concerning the salary of National Assembly members. You are right, they should also go on strike against National Assembly but they have to start somewhere; their own welfare first. The govt should cut down on their excesses and pay labour a living wage. I blame NLC for waiting for this long, it takes a long time for Buhari to articulate an issue, let's hope he still has the time. |
Business › Re: CBN Increases The Capital Base Of Microfinance Banks by PHIPEX(m): 3:12pm On Nov 03, 2018 |
debaj10: when you have a few minutes during the week, walk into any mfb near you and ask them the pros and cons of this policy, k? promise to share the answer you get?
who will invest in a microfinance bank, when big banks like Skye can fail just like that?
hm, most of us will be shocked at the number of taxes a new firm has to pay! why on earth will a sane country have these kinds of laws?!
in the short term (12/2020), is might be the safest- even only- option for depositors. in this economy, who won troway money?! abi dis won na new MMM?
this even goes beyond funding the new base. when the unqualified/merged banks close, where will their customers go to access loans? how far will they travel? if the CBN failed to properly assess Skye bank which folded up last month, how will it monitor/assess thousands of microfinance banks
it's actually quite different from being evil- most policy makers are out of touch with the real world. the question is, who was consulted before this policy was drawn up?
you stabilize micro enterprise institutions by securing/guaranteeing deposits, improving monitoring, more effective operations; and other policies that draw micro enterprises to access loans near their point of business. govt keeps wailing that many people are unbanked and there's too much liquidity in the market, yet its policies are reducing access to banks, creating uncertainty and appear to be deliberately aimed at making inclusion harder. what stops the CBN from employing field assessors to monitor, advise, even market MFBs?
consecutively bad decisions means the politicians in power lack adequate knowledge to query such policy suggestions. why devalue your currency and still have to defend it every single day, with billions of dollars?! and yet, manufacturers still find it hard to access same dollars! its madness! All these and more were said when Soludo did same for commercial banks, looking back you can tell it worked. Solid Mfbs will effectively implement the microfinance policies and give confidence to investors and depositors. As at today most depositors fear to use most of the Mfbs because of the possibility of collapse. This policy will solve that problem and introduce professionalism in the sector. |

This road has been an eyesore for decades. I had my NYSC PPA somewhere along that road and I regretted plying that route, several years have gone by and it's gone worse. Ogun prides its self of hosting industries yet can't muscle courage to give them a good road after all we know the FG is a failure already. |
