Am not a civil servant but I know that it's an offence for a civil servant to criticise the government of the day let alone a spokesman of a Federal government Agency. It shows how deep his hatred has gone to overlook his sensitive position and make such an unfounded allegation against the government he swore to serve.
Politics › Re: Managing Africa's Many Lovers - Pius Adesanmi by PHIPEX(m): 10:09am On Apr 19, 2013
There is a desire for the single story of trauma and vulnerability and Africa pays that dowry willy-nilly. It doesn’t even matter whether what is at issue concerns Africa or not, she is the continent that must keep on giving a singular idea of herself to feed Western desire.
This is the sad position we have found ourselves but I don't blame them much because as long as the hunter keeps telling the stories of the hunt, the stories will continue to favour him.

Sometimes, the single story of the African present comes from her own sons and daughters in the diaspora. Witness the damage done by Keith Richburg in his 1997 book, Out of America: A Black Man Confronts Africa. This is one angry black man who spends years covering some of the continent’s most brutal conflicts for The Washington Post and arrived at the conclusion that he is extremely lucky that those African savages sold his ancestors into slavery.
Many diasporan Nairalanders make this similar remark often with so much pride, funny enough most of them have known only the CNN and Internet Africa; they've never been here. They are like bats, neither Africans nor Whites.

Toktee: Why dont you redirect the same question to jonathan who promised to change nigeria in six months and declear state of emergency in power sector;he also promised to fight corruption, what has happened to all these promises,i advice you to ask him cos he own you explanation cos he is the president of nigeria and not buhari, buhari does not own u any explanation, religious bigot like you.
From where did my post suggest anything religious let alone being a bigot? It shows that people like you want Buhari not for anything but to fulfill your religious desires. GEJ has been in power for about thesame time Buhari spent in power as a maximum ruler of Nigeria. While I can point to several projects GEJ has executed (even though he is still below my expectation in certain areas) you Buhari's die hard can't mention two tangible project Buhari executed even with absolute power at his disposal.

One more time, besides WAI, what did Buhari do for Nigerians for about three years he spent in Govt and if he couldn't achieve anything as a military ruler what can he do as a civilian president if not for a revenge mission.

Dear Buhari, you promised Nigerians on national TV with tears in your eyes that you will never contest again after 2011, what happened to that promise? If you can't fulfill a simple promise how can I trust you to fulfill your election manifesto? As far as I know he that is unfaithful in little promises will be unfaithful in bigger promises, where is the much publicised honesty if you can't fulfill your promises?

My dream has always been to see Soludo become the Gov of my dear state so that he'll help us lay the foundaion for a long-term socio-economic properity. As it stand right now, party affiliations have always disappointed us as a nation, let's vote for men of substance. For example, apart from Fashola and maybe Oshomole, the rest of ACN Govs are dormant. I can't remember the last time I heard of a progress news from a state like Oyo. I still don't know what CPC Gov has done better. APGA Govs haven't done anything exceptional, also apart from Rivers, Akwa- Ibom and Enugu the rest of PDP Govs are waste of time or at best average. I have concluded then that perfomances of our Governors has nothing to do with their party affiliation but based only on their individual character.

The only war I've seen with my eyes is the Aguleri-Umuleri war, may such never happen again. Let the various communities allow the NBC conclude its work. My major annoyance with Kogi people is why they waited for Anambra to finish its financing and launching of this project before they woke up. The little law I know says that" delay defeats equity", why should a Baboon wait for the Monkey to finish a work and only surface when it's time to eat? It took more than 10years to finish this project, where were they?

Still water runs deep, an intelligent man I must admit. Some times I wonder if what it takes to be in the opposition is "attack, attack and constant attack", one hardly hears the popular opposition critics offer meaningful suggestions on how to move the nation forward. All I hear is PDP must go. One thing I've learnt from his interwiew is that popularity does not equate to credibility.

CyberG: BIG NOOO to that idea! Either keep him where he is or take him through any other airport not in the West or North or South South. Why TBS in the country home of the Yorubas who checkmated his utopian Biafra dream, the people he cowardly attacked from a tribalistic book while he had not enough courage to go And tell them in person. Don't pollute the land by taking him by taking him to the TBS, anywhere in iboland would be okay. Just stating the facts here and I am not looking into getting drawn into a back and forth hateful exchange.

How do you want me assess the growth rate of corruption from the comfort of my room? Do I make my judgement base on Sahara reporters report, Nairaland or what I hear from NTA? Tell me how much of our money was stolen in each of the last 3yrs and I will tell you if corruption is increasing or not. Nigeria is corrupt but let's allow people who know how to measure corruption (e.g TI) tell us if it's increasing or decreasing. No matter what position we take here, it'll be highly subjective and biased towards the level of information we have individually.

The title of this thread should read "Islamic leaders back Amnesty for Boko Haram" Because am yet to see a traditional leader in Sokoto or Kano who is not a Moslem. You kill Southerners and turn around to demand for amnesty from oil money gotten from South, what a pity!

See how confused these people are, some of them earlier said that poverty and unemployment was motivating the attacks, how then will granting of amnesty solve poverty and umemployment problems?
Politics › Re: Rehabilitation Of Enugu-PH Road Raises Hope On Enugu-Onitsha Road by PHIPEX(m): 11:03am On Mar 30, 2013
The number of roads being worked on right now in the South-East should be a pointer to anyone who has never been to the region on how delapidated the entire South-Eastern road network was before this administration. To think that from 1999 to 2011; a period of 12 years, I can't point to a single major road in the South-East that was awarded and completed is mind boggling. I can only say "When the Lord turn again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream".
Politics › Re: CBN Cancels N100 Monthly ATM Maintenance Fee... by PHIPEX(m):
I believe the question we should ask is how much are banks in other countries charging for using ATM? Nigeria can't be an exception. To Nairalanders in diaspora, are you guys charged for using ATM?
Tinyemeka: Banks are expected to pay interests on deposits, pay staff salaries, settle general running expenses, purchase ATM machines for approx N6m apiece, settle their carriage and installation costs, pay for UPS, inverter purchase and maintenance, etc. Yet are expected to declare mega profits and bonuses to investors year in year out.

If Nairaland has roughly 500,000 unique registered members, I'm sure not up to 80% of that number, regularly maintain above N50,000 as savings. Extrapolate that to the rest of Nigeria's banked population.

If banks incur such costs on ATM installation and maintenance and people expect the services to be free, what makes the survival of that business model any different from those of NITEL and NEPA?

Me I'm patiently watching.

Some roads are still in bad shape no doubt but apart from Enugu-Onitsha road, I sincerely can't remember any of the roads I have traveled so far that is worse than they were 3 to 4 years ago. I think the best way to assess the current state of the roads will be for us to mention FG roads across the country that have been left to decay and worse than they were few years ago and lets see if ABC is right or wrong. But since ABC covers major roads across the country, I'll give them the benefit of doubt.

This is the reason I told you to read my comment over and over again, am sure you don't understand what I said. I didn't downgrade Soyinka and never will I because he is a great Icon I respect. I was trying to say that if some other persons who equally merit it were denied, it should not be taken to mean that they are less than what they are. They are as great as those who won it at least going by their works and public perception.

Eko Ile: Loser talk and syndrome. I fell your pain..
If a man's worth is measured by the number of awards he received then Nigeria's greatest legends will be all those politicians that are constantly awarded GCON, GCOR, OON, etc. Victor Ikpeba was a great player and won the African footballer of the year, Okocha never won such recognition but you and I know who is a better player among the two. The Nobel is a great award and whoever wins it should be celebrated but it doesn't mean that those who were denied it for obvious reasons are not worth their values.

Politics › Re: GEJ Should Be Impeached - LA Times Joel Brinkley by PHIPEX(m): 7:20pm On Mar 25, 2013
pro01: Someone should kindly tell me how GEJ's (2 year) administration is worse than OBJ's eight years in power. I have since concluded that shallow people (which describes many of the most vocal critics of the present administration) hate GEJ not necessarily for his actions or inactions, but because of his person and persona.

(Un)fortunately, GEJ is not as rambunctious, belligerent, swashbuckling, untamed, and uncouth as Obasanjo, which makes him seem less exciting and therefore 'worse'. It's all a matter of perception; groundless perception based on appearances rather than substance.

How, in cold facts and figures, is corruption - all forms of corruption - worse under GEJ than it was under Obasanjo? Nigeria earned the highest revenues in her history during Obasanjo's eight wasted years in power. How did that tell on our lives? Were the roads better under OBJ than they are now? Was the power supply better than it is now? Were our hospitals better equipped? Was there greater infrastructural development under OBJ than now? Was there less wastage of public funds under OBJ than now? Was the Rule of Law better observed under OBJ than it is under GEJ? Was general insecurity any less under OBJ than it is today (minus the emergent Boko Haram phenomenon, which sensible people realise is a political ploy to return power to the north)? Was the public service more efficient under OBJ than it is now? Most importantly, did Nigerians have more food on their tables under OBJ than they have today under GEJ (despite the fact that the country earned more courtesy of record crude oil prices during OBJ's eight years)? What then, is the basis for maligning GEJ as the worst thing to happen to Nigeria? Could it be merely because of his unpretentious appearance and underwhelming personality? Or could it be because of his unfashionable trademark hat? Because of his perceived lack of 'swagger'? Is that enough to justify so much baseless hate?

Do you so easily forget that the highest number of politically motivated assassinations occurred under Obasanjo, and ALL of them (including the murder of a serving Minister of Justice/Attorney-General) remain unresolved?

Again, how can anyone forget that political corruption, which is arguably worse than financial corruption, was elevated to official state practice under Obasanjo? In Nigeria's political history, has there been any election worse than the 2003 and 2007 general elections conducted by Obasanjo? Compare that with GEJ's demonstrable resolve not to tamper with electoral processes - which has seen the freest and fairest elections in Nigeria's history take place under him (e.g. Edo, Ondo, Anambra, Imo, etc). Gradually, the phenomenon of election-rigging is becoming extinct, primarily because GEJ refuses to endorse such, even to his own party's detriment. Can you say the same for OBJ?

Have we forgotten how Obasanjo sought to ALTER the constitution to prolong his stay in power through a dubious third term provision? Is that brazen act of political corruption not infinitely worse than pardoning a penitent convicted man?

I can go on and on, but the imperative of brevity constrains me. The fact is that we cannot judge GEJ in isolation. He had predecessors, and if we cannot prove how his administration is worse than those of his predecessors (especially OBJ), then we have serious issues indeed.
How I wish there is a way to like a post again and again. Many Nigerians suffer from amnesia; we forget so soon. It could partly be because of our culture where times and again we hear a cliche like "the good old days" and I keep wondering if the old days were truly better than the present or we are just dwelling in fantasy. Even corporate bodies that want to assess their growth rate annually compare their present to their past but Nigerians want to compare the present to a potential future only, let's not forget where we are coming from. Our Leaders have collectively squandered our common wealth and I shall not excuse any of them neither shall I make the present leaders "the scape-goats". Most of those pointing accusing fingers were in govt in the past, How did they fare better?

If I were the President, the best way to silence critics is to put up an outstanding performance and I really wish and hope he does that.

And what of when the practitioners base their actions on the same doctrines of the religion? I don't need to study the quoran to understand Islam, I should be able to know the doctrines of Islam by observing the actions and inactions of its faithfuls. Once again, this current issue was not done by Islamic outlaws but by a legally constituted Islamic court of law in defense of its teachings and doctrines.
