Fashola is gradually loosing it, so according to him Taxi and BRT are close substitutes for KEKE in a city where about 50% have never used taxi in their life? With the rate of holdup along Awolowo way in Ikeja for instance, can you imagine what the trafic will be like if extra 200 units of Taxi are introduced on that road to replace Keke? So everyone who wants to move from Obalende to CMS will now use a Taxi?...absolute power corrupts absolutely!

san4real05: If you can buy printer(3 in 1 printers, hp, now goes for #8000) and be printing for students, especially the final year students @ a lower rate when compare to does who are doing it fully as a business. This will give you high rate on return if you doing it in the hostel............... you can print black and white, coloured and scanned as well with the printer....................... wishing you best of luck
I did exactly this and it was goldmine. @ OP, if you have a Laptop take up this business, learn how to use refill ink in your printer and you'll depend on no one again till you graduate.
Politics › Re: El-Rufai To Soludo: You Created A Cancer by PHIPEX(m):
The kind of targeted interventions needed to fill the gaps sustained by some of such policies were opposed by Soludo unless the ideas originated from him. As CBN governor, Charles did all he could to frustrate the attempts to establish a national mortgage system and was openly critical of Ngozi's drive and contributions in getting the Paris Club debts written off for the simple reason that the the credit might go to others not Soludo!
What sort of a gossip is this for Christ sake, Elrufai has left defending his book and now resort to deliberately trying to pitch Soludo against Ngozi. This is sad for a man that desires to return to leadership position tomorrow because what it means is that every confidential discussion he'll have with anyone will be made public tomorrow in the dailies...I pity the likes of Buhari and Tinubu still romancing with him. If I were him, I would've simply apoligised to everyone who got maligned in his book and promise to make amend rather than cooking up more lies and gossip just to appear relevant in the scheme of things.

I do not have a professorial memory, so kept daily journals of events including verbatim records of statements. I am delighted that I took the time to write it, and I once again encourage others who have been privileged to be in the public service to similarly record their experiences.
I still don't understand how someone who admits to not having "a professional memory" can still remember to keep a "verbatim record" hours and perhaps days after the discusion was held except he secretly records every conversation he has with people.

Politics › Re: Dangote Secures $4.25 Billion Loan To Build Refinery In Nigeria by PHIPEX(m):
GenBuhari: Which banks gave him $4bn loan?

Nigeria is a joke.
“two offshore banks and some Nigerian banks.”

GenBuhari: Nigeria is a joke.

An individual with history of profiting from corrupt govt, speaks about $4bn loan from presumably Nigerian banks (who have a bad history of writing off bad loans and allowing corrupt borrowers to steal the money).

A Federal govt who does not feel that it is it's responsibility to build refineries, and is happy to rely on a single company with a record of corrupt business dealings/ alliances.

Is it likely that anybody could get such a huge loan to build refineries with out govt underwriting the loan (agreeing to repay the banks if loan is not repaid by borrower)?

Does any of the above not concern you?

Nigeria is a joke
I wonder which bank any where in the world will refuse to give a loan to one of the richest men in the world. Such banks will be converted to NGOs because they don't know business. The worst they can do is raise the interest rate.

Pipsland78: Poverty rate moved from 64.2 to 62.6 and we are celebrating? Choi!
If we keep reducing poverty rate by that margin every year then by the next 10yrs poverty rate in the country will be very low. Although I believe the existing rate is currently below what is stated above.

You see how lonely this thread is, all the ethnic warriors have all gone on holiday because the Igbos are at the receiving end, were it to be the opposite we would've seen this thread get to 10 pages in few hours.
Politics › Re: Group Petitions Jonathan Over “Hausanisation & Islamisation” Of Nigeria Police by PHIPEX(m):
These are the kinds of attrocities that have been going on in federal parastatals and Agencies for years but hidden from the public. When an individual spirited towards the course of the Igbos takes over the leadership position of such institution tomorrow and tries to balance these heinous and lopsided recruitments and promotions of yesteryears these same fraudsters and perpetrators of this existing injustice will spampede him/her with a cry of ethnic agenda. How in God's name will the killings of the Igbos in the North stop when the people that are supposed to police and protect them are the architects of such massacres?

Now let me hear the ethnic warriors defend this or better still justify it on the bases of the unfortunate allegations against Ministers of Aviation and Finance.

Politics › Re: El-Rufai’s Book Is An Intellectual Fraud - Soludo by PHIPEX(m):
Le Stylo: Isn't it ironic that none of the people criticising El-rufai has sued him for libel or defamation. I'm particcularly shocked at Atiku and Soludo who could only resort to "undocumented" social media reactions. Am i missing something here? There's more than catches the eye. I can bet that!

As for Soludo, his exit exposed a brilliant Ponzi scheme which nearly killed the whole banking sector and which is not remotely connected with the Stock exchange collapse! Who would forget the polymer note scandals? Or the brash efforts to introduce coins that does not have the smallest purchasing value. The country lost billions to these avoidably, dear professor. Like someone opined, why did it take Prof over 3 months to reply to this book?

#thinking aloud.
Isn't this another case of selective memory? So the only thing you chose to remember is just Soludo's exit, what about his entry? Now you have heard it from him, Nigeria has witnessed only two positive revolutions, incidentally he was incharge of one of them and am waiting for anyone to prove him wrong.

Elrufai told us the supposed evils every other person in the govt did but forgot to mention the evils he did or was he a saint or should we (based on Atiku's rejoinder) further blame his selective memory syndrome?
Politics › Re: Notore Partners Contourglobal To Develop 500mw Power Plant by PHIPEX(op): 11:10am On May 05, 2013
awodman: The reason why the private sector has always shyed away is simple..there was no enabling market to support them..now the BULK TRADER company has been created as part of the ongoing power reforms so companies can generate electricity and sell to the bulk trader..as you can see it was stated explicitly in the report..

...."The plan is to sell the electricity generated by the
plant to the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading PLC..."

Also because of the enabling market created by the bulk trader MOBIL is building a power plant in Akwa-ibom,GEOMETRIC apart from their plant that will serve ABA recently signed an agreement with GE to build a plant to produce power it will sell to the bulk trader..
That's impressive, let's hope other firms will be attracted. That's why it's good for govt to create an enabling environment for private sector to drive the economy.

I've been wondering why private sector players haven't been taking advantage of the huge power supply gap in the country or is it not lucrative enough? Thank God things are changing.
Politics › Notore Partners Contourglobal To Develop 500mw Power Plant by PHIPEX(op): 7:15pm On May 04, 2013
Notore Power Limited (Notore Power), an indigenous independent power producer (IPP), has just signed a Joint Development Agreement with ContourGlobal to develop, construct, finance and operate a gas-fired power station with an available capacity of 500 MW at its existing facility at the Notore Industrial Complex in Onne, Rivers State, Nigeria.

The plan is to sell the electricity generated by the plant to the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading PLC.

The signing took place on Monday 22nd April 2013 at the Presidential Power Reform Transactions Signing Ceremony hosted by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

ContourGlobal is an international power generation company with power generating assets of more than 3000 MW in operations or under construction in 15 countries on four continents.

The company manages, owns and operates a portfolio of 31 power plants around the world, with a focus on high-growth, under-served markets, while utilizing a wide range of fuel types and technology including renewable energy production based upon wind, solar and biomass.

ContourGlobal’s deep experience with projects in Africa will be further demonstrated during the execution of the joint development agreement with Notore Power.

Some of its major projects include the acquisition of Arrubal 800 MW CCGT plant in Spain, the acquisition of Maritsa East 3, 908 MW lignite coal plant in Bulgaria, the operation of a 100MW plant in Lome, Togo, the operation of a Quad Genfacility in Nigeria for Coca Cola Hellenic Bottling Company’s Nigerian facility, the Phase 1 of KivuWatt biogas plant in Rwanda and its recent acquisition of its GTi Dakar, a 52MW combined power plant in Dakar, Senegal.

Incorporated in August 2007, Notore Power was established to optimally manage power resources for its parent company, Notore Chemical Industries Limited, owner and operator of the only urea fertiliser plant in Sub-Saharan Africa.

In 2008, Notore Power successfully obtained a generation license for its installed capacity of 50MW.

Femi Solebo, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Notore Power expressed delight at the official commencement of the project through the signing ceremony.

“We are delighted at today’s event. This marks the commencement of change in Nigeria. We are committed to enhancing the quality of lives of Nigerians and electrical power is definitely of serious need in our nation today. We are happy to be partnering with ContourGlobal, a world-acclaimed and trusted organisation and we are confident that this project would be delivered as promised”.

Joseph C. Brandt, President and Chief Executive Officer of ContourGlobal stated “ContourGlobal has always given special consideration to Africa since its creation in 2006. Our plants in Togo, Rwanda, Nigeria and lately Senegal are testimony to it. Nigeria may well have the highest potential, and the highest needs for new power generation in the continent, and we are extremely excited to contribute. We have found with Notore Power a strong and ambitious partner, and we believe a powerful fit.”

The project will involve the construction of a 500MW gas-fired power plant and is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2016

Politics › Re: Do You Consciously Patronise Made In Nigeria Products? by PHIPEX(m): 12:12pm On May 04, 2013
I once had to take time to explain to a Malam selling beside my house why I usually prefer Made in Nigeria Peak milk over Made in Holland Peak, it's not because the Made in Nigerian own is of better quality but because I understand the concept of multiplier effect. I think part of the reason most people don't patronise local product is the ignorance of what the nation stands to gain indirectly from their purchases.

Sometimes it's not all about what we gain from the status symbol of consuming a foreign product but understanding that employments are created when we choose local products over foreign ones. Our problem most times is that of fitting into the social class of those using foreign product and not always about quality.
Innoson group is an Igbo private company, it's not a Nigerian company and therefore Lagos State have no statutory mandate to patronize its products. In fact, it is within business judgement and economic development mandate that Lagos State should set up a competition to Innoson.

To those advocating for Lagos to patronize Innoson, how many indigenes of Lagos State are in the executive board of Innoson Group of Companies?
This you attempt at defending this huge error from Fashola doesn't make you look smart. Since when did our govt become a competitor in a business arena? Haven't you heard that "govt has no business being in business"? What stops Fashola from creating an enabling environmrnt for private auto-makers to thrive in his state? Can you mention any sector of the economy where a govt agency is in competition with private coys and how have they performed?

If Fashola can't patronise the local autos because they are owned by Igbos then he should stop talking as if he has the interest of the nation at heart. This project is more political than economic and I wouldn't be surprised if it's left as another abandoned project.

I like Fashola but at times he sounds like a regular politician. I passed through the State Secretariat this morning and saw several staff buses but one question that ran through my mind was how come a Gov that wants improvements in Nigeria Auto-mobile Industry couldn't afford to buy A SINGLE LOCALLY MADE STAFF BUS when private firms do that? What better support and advert will these firms employ than for Govts and its agencies to patronise them even if it's just one or two buses?
If he establishes this Manufacturing/assembling plants will it only be patronised by the state govt?
If he expects other State govts or private individuals to patronise it what stops him from patronising the existing local makers of automobile?
I wonder how economically viable it will be to establish a manufacturing plants just for Lagos BRT considering that plenty of the current BRT buses are owned by private companies, will he force them to patronise it?

Am afraid, what goes around could come around here.

Politics › Re: Is Nigeria Really Unsafe? by PHIPEX(m): 12:16am On Apr 26, 2013
I can safely conclude that most of Nigerians that have been out of this country for the past 8yrs have lost touch with the reality of happenings in this country. If you rely on the news in the media to judge Nigerian then you are not different from a total stranger who hasn't been to Nigeria. For instance, I know how Lagos was 8 yrs ago and how it is now, the same can be said of Nigeria.

OAM4J: Ask Ejigbo Local Government Chairman how safe Lagos is.

@Topic

How can someone who traveled with a federal minister and security escorts know how safe the country really is?
We can as well say that Boston is not safe based on last week's event or say similar thing about Canada. You don't use what happened to an individual to draw a conclusion on a city housing about 10million people.
Politics › Re: Is Nigeria Really Unsafe? by PHIPEX(m): 11:20pm On Apr 25, 2013
ItsModella: I didn't compare her to America. Let's even take America out of the equation, can you still say Nigeria is safe? Abeg leave matter, Nigeria is unsafe.
The question then should be what criteria do you use to measure safety because for someone like me in Lagos, Nigeria is safe but someone in Kano may think otherwise. How do you measure safety?
Politics › Re: Is Nigeria Really Unsafe? by PHIPEX(m): 11:15pm On Apr 25, 2013
ItsModella: Whether Nigeria is compared to the US or Zimbabwe is not the issue, the crux of the matter is that Nigeria is not as safe as the article is making it out to be. If you like, compare it to Mozambique just so you can sheath the hard truth but that's just what it is.
There are reasons why "pair review mechanism" is adopted in making comparisms, you can't wake up and say since Nigeria is not as developed or as safe as America then the country is not safe. Compare a country with her pairs.
Politics › Re: Is Nigeria Really Unsafe? by PHIPEX(m): 11:05pm On Apr 25, 2013
I don't get it when some Nigerians make fast comparisms between Nigeria and America; how reasonable is it to compare a first world nation against a nation that is still ranked in the 3rd world category? A reasonable comparism should be Nigeria against the likes of Egypt, South Africa, Mexico and the likes. If you compare Nigeria to Britain and America you'll easily conclude that Nigeria is not safe but if we are reasonable enough to compare the country against her mates like India and the Arab countries then we may appreciate the country better.

America should be compared against Britain while Nigeria should be compared against South-Africa.
In response to article,

Igbo nation or Biafra or whatever we should call it has been broken and irrevocably divided. Your sons have so much of themselves invested and commited to other territories that they are constantly intimidated by the fear of parting from or loosing those investments and are therefore unwilling to trade or sacrifice their personal gain for a tribal cause, given the wisdom of 1967. So this Igbo youth call will only be answered and carried out in East. Your brothers in West and North dare not start trouble in those regions if their established successes is valuable to them.

Moreover, this is a coward call. Soon as the trial start the demand will change and they will release another media cry threatening to cause trouble if uwazuruike is convicted. Then soon as he is convicted, another cry to cause trouble if he is imprisoned. When picture of him eating "national beans" is released, it will be followed by threats of if he dies in prison. These clowns only have cries and loudness......they can bark but they are toothless.

Their teeth has been uprooted and implanted in different regions, separated from a bunch and given individual successes thus deflating and neutralizing their sense of collectivism and unity......which was never strong and cohesive to begin with.

yeye COWARDS!! angry
You have left the substance of the issue and chosen to engage in fabrications. Personally, I don't see the FG trying Uwazurike because it could have a grave implication for the country. It's against every known ethics to pardon the leaders of the likes of deadly Boko Haram and turn around to try the leader of a non-violent group for treason, It's tantamount to waking a sleeping lion except if our leaders prefer violence to peace. I believe the supreme court just delivered judgement on a case that has been pending for years unfortunately, current events in the country has over-taken the relevance of that judgement.

Mind you, no sensible person will pray for a replica of what is happening in the North to happen in the East but don't ever think Nigeria will survive it if it happens. Boko haram has not touched anywhere in the south yet we are in this mess how much more when the south joins the crusade; the spiral effect will engulf both the South south and the South-west. moreso, if they try Uwazurike today, how are you sure the OPC leaders will be spared tomorrow?
