Am appalled by deliberate attempt by some people to rationalise this state sponsored kidnapping but let's all remember this quote from a survivor of Hitler's holocaust First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me. ---------Martin Niemöller By the time this act is institutionalised let no one think he'll escape it because even if you do, your loved ones may not be that lucky. |
This will be my first comment on this issue since it started and I wish to say that I personally don't see much wrong in sending destitutes back to their homes as long as it is done in a legal and rational manner. I can't imagine how Lagos will look like if all the Almajiris in Nigeria decide to make Lagos their headquarters; there has to be order in the city. But it is a gross display of hypocricy for anyone to turn a blind eye to the act of dumping a supposed homeless people homelessly under a bridge in the middle of the night. If Lagos cares to take them off their under-the-bridge settlements in lagos why dump them under another bridge in Onitsha? Besides, If 14 people claimed to be from Anambra state (Even though I can spot names and local govts that are not in Anambra) why transfer 76 destitutes to another state? In as much as this issue might be politicesed one way or the other it's very clear to everyone who still has his sense of reasoning intact that Lagos could have handled this issue in a better manner and save us this fightings. If they could travel for about 6hrs from lagos to Onitsha why not add another 30mins and take them to the govt secretariate at Awka, wouldn't that have been more reasonable? Wouldn't it have made more sense if a call was put across to the state govt notifying them of the dumped "citizens" rather than snicking in and out of the state like criminals. If the people that carried out this act were to be paid by Anambra state govt would they have turned back at the foot of the bridge and forfeited their pay? Besides, the exhibits above doesn't indicate that a date was set for official handover so why should you expect govt officials to wait for you at the bridge by 3am? |
Am expecting to see PDP's obituary posters on the streets on Anambra, APGA just delivered a masterstroke to the party in the state, this is all about pragmatism. Adieu PDP in Anambra State!! Up Soludo's Solution!!!! |
News like this don't get to the front page, they die natural death. Multiple revelations in one week, I still remember there is no smoke without fire https://www.nairaland.com/1373338/state-govt-ignores-igbos-does#17037585. But they are always frontpage shy and I wonder whether it's a subtle attempt by the power that be to perpetuate the age long lies and deceit in the country. I hope to be proved wrong this time. |
I represent Anambra North but the fact is that I welcome politics of development and not that of birth-right. Right now I can't find a better alternative and until then I seek for Soludo's solution for my beloved state. This is a great news. |
chukwudi44: Yes it works for those who died in sin that does not lead to spiritual death.1john 5:17.The Bible is just too deep, I must confess that I've never taken note of this verse in the Bible and my Bible commentary regards it as one of the most controversial verse in the New Testament. @OP, I care less if it works or not but since I know there is no repentance in the grave I'll rather pray for myself while am alive than depend on RIP prayers of well wishers at death. |
Truth is like smoke, try as much as you can to hide it somewhere someday it'll find a way of escape. We may seem to sound arrogant but the truth is that it takes a special grace for a group of people who went through what we went through in this nation and bounced back to remain "humble". The shout of Biafra here and there on Nairaland is simply because of how other major ethnic groups have monopolised the presidency for the past 50years. Incidentally, Nigeria has remained in wilderness for the past 50yrs. Give everyone the sense of belonging and see the truth in "unity in diversity". On the other hand, keep hanging onto the presidency like a birthright and our slogan shall remain "to your tent oh Isreal". The focus will remain individual wealth and Nigeria's collective interest will keep sufferring. A simple sample of Igbo ministers and political appointees vis-a-vis their performances since the return of democracy should be an indicator of what we could experience if an Igbo finds his way to Aso Rock. |
mapet: It is certain that some of you have turned reasoning the other way round. That Soyinka caled PEJ to caution and reminding her that sje has no constitutional role to meddle in Rivers affairs....warrant such nonsensical statment in bold? Katsumoto: He had best of times when standing up to Northern dictators and siding with Biafra but now that he is speaking against GEJ and his dumb wife, he isn't having the best of times. SMDHYou both probably got me wrong, I thought this was a recent news when I posted my comment. If we assume it to be a recent news (as I wrongly thought earlier) then you'll agree with me that getting attacked from PEJ and IBB in a matter of days wouldn't be what anyone will wish for in this country except we want to pretend. I never said he was wrong because I respect what he stands for and like he said "the man dies in all who keep silent in the face of tyrany". |
[quote author=one.east4] "Typical of a man whose upbringing was admittedly characterized with storm and stress, he established the Seadogs Confraternity during his undergraduate years in the University of Ibadan. We all know the implications of that confraternity in the life of Nigerian universities. Such a man cannot, by every societal standard, be a role model." I still wonder why yurubas worship mediocres and such a character as Soyenka who championed campus secret cultism. IBB has proved it again that there is no role model in yurubaland, its either they are crooks or cultists or they are committing suicide like awoalowo did. Yurubas should come to the east of Niger and see abundance of role models to emulate from: great Zik to Achebe to Ojukwu to Orizu to Ekwueme to Tansi to Cardinal Arinze to Chuka Umunna to .......infact NL cannot contain it.[/quote]Don't make a mess of this thread, this is not an ethnic challenge. This is certainly not the best of times for Wole Soyinka but I still respect what he stands for, he has his weak points as a human but it doesn't take away the fact that he is a national icon I still admire. |
What is the OPC connection?? |
Sincere 9gerian: I look forward to the day Fashola will order for Innoson vehicles or partner with the company. Abi no be ONE Nigeria again? My joy is not in the purchase of vehicle because it's not a new thing but the local content part of it. Imagine if all these vehicles were supplied by Toyota all in the name of better brand? Am waiting for other state govts to support local content innitiative and help fight unemployment instaed of using it as a political tool. If a relatively new company like Innoson can give 4000 people jobs then how much more if more individuals like him are supported to grow. |
This is getting serious and DL needs to watch it before they fall prey to the antics of the devil. I don't support his son for making a mess of what his father has built overtime, if he knew he wasn't going to abide by the rule he should have left the church long time ago. But maybe this is an opportunity to take a second look at some of these traditions in question especially if the offence can not be considered a sin but offence against their tradition. I hope this wouldn't be like the case Jesus referred to. Mt 15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. |
take dat: Ok! PDP started as a broad based all inclusive party, and 15years after its formation the party is yet to have an ideology. Of what good then is the party? A Party lacking in ideology but insist on ruling. It shows that the party is made of charlatans, ever-swelling cult of looters with no vision or ideas to govern.Doesn't the highlighted sound like the short term quick-quick solution of the military era that landed us in the problem we have today? If PDP got worse after 14yrs then APC may complicate the situation in years to come, maybe we'll start searching for a third mega party. If APC wins in 2015 what happens afterward? Are we not going to be left with 2 PDP like parties competing over who wins more loot? I will prefer to have to contend with one devil than multiplying the devils in the polity. I need a better option not another complication. |
Danhumprey: I don't mean to insult, but can somebody tell me how important the bridge is?It's like having only 3rd mainland bridge between Lagos mainland and Lagos Island. |
lakhadimar: where were you when yaradua was refered to as 'yaradull' and baba go slow? Where were you when obasanjo was called an ape? Callin GEJ an incompetent sl0wpoke is not an insult its actually stating the obviousMaybe nairaland has to start from somewhere, the previous moderators failed to do their job and the ripple effect has extended and may continue to extend to future leaders if nothing is done. People who are naturally abusive must be checkmated in a public forum like this otherwise others will join. |
kehinde1588: Yes! We ar Nigerians! We ar yorubas! No tolerance for bad leader and we ar known for critism..if u noticed, yourabas are always leading any protest concerning the national issue even during removal of fuel subsidy, yorubas are the one who lead most protest and criticised most. We are outspoken and blunt in our speech..the fact always comes from the yorubas..life without haters is meaningless.. And we thank God we are known with critisim if not for that no government would want to improve on their task thats why south west is developing rapidily..haters keep hating and we kiping moving higher. What are other tribes known for?How do you criticise an elder in your family if he goes wrong, by calling him a fool and a retard? criticism is different from insult. The comments of some nairalanders here seriously negate what I was made to believe while growing up about the south westerners. For someone who hasn't lived in any south western state, it'll be hard to convince such a person that the yorubas respect their elders or even positions of authority. |
blink182: apc has made it clear that no grieving pdp politician will be allowed to contest on its platform and as for sensitive offices, the apc boat is full-remember apc has brains from acn, anpp, cpc, and apga.ACN holds the major block in APC yet same ACN has always presented ex-PDP members as presidential candidates since it was formed, why wouldn't it happen again? |
I don't know why I find it difficult to believe that Jonathan and Amechi are fighting, I see this as perfect strategy by the president to win 2015 election. Amechi gradually warms his way into the new mega party, gets a juicy nomination and turns around to become a perfect mole for the president. On the eve of the election he'll return to his "umbrella home" and will be received with fanfare as a prodigal son of the Niger-Delta by then APC would be in confusion and the election will go as expected. This isn't a conspiracy theory, it's what I've chosen to believe; Jonathan and Amechi are playing chess with APC. If Amechi and Okorocha are eyeing same VP nomination then common sense will tell us that one or both of them will return disappointed and will cause confusion in APC. |
ilugunboy: That' is my route and am yet to leave the house...thanks for the head up. Need to go through. "Ikosi inside" to burst out at Caleb exit route then.I was on d move, couldn't stop for a pics. |
This is to alert the fire service and other agencies concerned that a taker carrying fuel fell along the expressway directly opposite the entrance to Magodo GRA Phase 2 entrance. Part of the spill can be seen along the CMD road and some Area boys are currently scooping fuel from the taker. A little spark can change the story if we delay. |
I used to wonder how it's possible for a family to dominate the presidency of some African countries for years, I concluded that it was because those countries lack educated and vocal voices and that it can never happen in Nigeria but Tinubu and Lagos have proved me wrong. Even the most educated can become a political sychophant overnight sacrificing both his rights and that of the less educated masses for personal political expediency of one man. |
Ola Johnson: When the word music is mentioned the next thing that should come to the mind of a right thinking human being is GENRE. Genre is the different parts music is divided. There are hip-hop, fuji, reggae, juju, asiko, adama, high life, country, classical, makossa, were, etc genres of music. Let me say this before any other thing, GOSPEL is not a genre. Whoever that wants to go into music, using it to praise God could use any of the above genres. Buchi does this with reggae. Obey, I. K. Dairo and KSA do this using juju. Kirk Franklin does this using R&B. Dekunle Fuji does this using fuji. Orlando Owoh in some his christian songs used highlife.I personally don't have a problem with what you wrote above but what I don't agree to is a situation where a song sang by a hip-hop artiste is rephrased/remixed and brought to the church. Buchi, kirk frankline etc have brands and use a genre they are known with, even if they change their genre It's different from where for instance Tu-face's African Queen is brought to the church and perhaps remixed and someone who is a catholic comes out to claim that he's singing it to Virgin Mary or when a well known D' banj's song is remixed and used for Praise and worship in a pentecostal church. You want to worship God with fake and left-over songs, is God a begger? I wouldn't be surprised if God opens our eyes to see that we are merely entertaining ourselves thinking we are worshipping God. To me that's a show of hypocricy and insecurity among christians because it makes us neither hot nor cold. If it's all about your heart as someone said earlier, what stops us from inviting MI, P-square and Tu-face to lead us in praise and worship and let's see how much worship you will give to God. |
Taylor184: Judge not!!!2nd to commentWhat is judgemental about a harmless question? @ OP, most of our teachings and doctrines these days are more of rationalisation and democratisation; once the majority supports it, it becomes a doctrine. I invited someone to a program in my church yesterday "unfortunately" the organisers and leaders invited a group that was performing break dance with a hip hop beat, my invitee left the church in annoyance. I don't go to hip hop shows but some people are insisting on bringing it to me inside my church. In most instances in the Bible, the majorities are always wrong. |
Nigeria is gradually distroying my psyche, I don't feel empathetic to reports of deaths across the country any more. It's now a normal news ![]() |
He said his campaign organization and the members of LP would hold 14 days prayer to ask God for forgiveness that the people of Anambra had allowed a party with a rooster symbol to govern the state. This guy is a big clown, so of all the reasons in the world this is all he could tell us was his reason for joining the party? What a shallow thinker. |
nereiskc: Good evening pals, pls when is the payment and allotment dates of okomuoil coy of their 2012 FYE., 2ndly, must one fill something like allotment forms for city securities limited (registrar of okomuoil) to claim his benefit...... Your ans will b highly appreciated.Pls my Ogas in the house, can anyone help us with this information because am also very interested in it. I've gotten the dividend already but the bonus hasn't been credited, what could be the cause? |
A brilliant presentation judging from the perpective of a social crusader but what I don't get yet is if there is a limit to this theory of equality of sexes. Nigeria is a highly religious society and the 3 dominant religions(Christianity, Islam and Pegans) are not in support of absolute equality of gender. From the Biblical perspective, God said while placing a curse on Eve that she shall be subject to the wishes of the Man. If we juxtapose religious doctrines which we follow with the current drive for equality we'll realise that absolute equality of gender is very hard to sell. I recognise that the aspects of these gender role expectations that are more social than religious can be alterered but the message of absolute equality may not sell even in the next century. |
emmysenior: Dem no dey tell blind man rain dey fall...I wonder if the heat is from the concerted efforts of the countries affected or just the threat of a "reprisal" from the Nigerian govt. |
I just heard a confirmation of this on AIT, I think this should be a good news to many people. |
TVC NEWS [ABUJA]- The United Kingdom has rescinded its plan to place a £3,000 bond on Nigerians seeking entry to the country, spokesman for Nigeria's Foreign Affairs Ministry disclosed this on Monday [June 24]. Meanwhile, The Sunday Times of London had quoted UK Home Secretary Theresa May as saying that a pilot scheme that would target visitors from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nigeria and Ghana would take off in November under which travellers from those countries would pay a cash deposit of £3,000 to deter immigration abuse. They will forfeit the money if they overstay their visas. The spokesman for the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Abuja, Ode Ogbole, in a text message was reported saying: "It's been rescinded". He did not give further details and did not answer subsequent telephone calls, according to Nigeria's Daily Trust Newspaper. Another official of the ministry who pleaded anonymity said that a message from the UK government rescinding the plan had been sent to the Presidency. Foreign Affairs Minister Olugbenga Ashiru had earlier on Monday [June 24] told journalists at the ministerial platform commemorating the mid-term anniversary of the Jonathan administration that no official communication had been received from the British government by Nigeria on the subject. He assured Nigerians of government's readiness to defend and protect them all over the world but urged them to always conduct themselves in a manner that will portray Nigeria in good image. Meanwhile, the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee has described the proposed UK entry bond as discriminatory and unacceptable. "This is totally discriminatory and unacceptable. It is targeted to non-white Commonwealth. We would take a critical look at the policy as it affects Nigerians and come up with a way forward," committee chairman Rep. Nnenna Elendu-Ukeje (PDP Abia) said in a statement. "We agreed totally with the UK Foreign Minister that the policy is totally unworkable and impractical. It is contrary to the commitment made to our President by David Cameron during their last meeting. We believe it is for political reason ahead of general election. We seek that our long historical relationship should take precedence over political expediency," Ukeje said. http://www.tvcnews.tv/?q=article/uk-cancels-%C2%A33000-entry-bond-nigerian-immigrants |
Encouraging news after a long wait, they should have also told us how long it'll take before it's completed. |
