Following last Saturday’s violent clash in Zaria, Kaduna State, between the Nigerian Army and members of the Shiite sect, which led to the death of scores of the sect’s members, there is palpable tension in parts of Kaduna as Shiite members have stormed major streets in protest.

Shiite members protest killing of members by soldiers in parts of Kaduna on Tuesday, December 15, 2015
Residents in Tudun Wada area of the state, said the protesters were demanding the release of Ibrahim Zakzaky, their leader, who was detained by the Nigerian Army, after a heavy bombardment of his house, which lasted several hours midnight Saturday.
It was said that banks, offices and other business places along Tudun Wada-Ahmadu Bello Way have been closed for fear of the unknown.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, a picture of Zakzaky soaked in blood went viral on social media.

PoliticsWorsening Economy: Nigeria Sliding Towards Revolution, Ekweremadu Warns Buhari. by PhockPhockMan(op): 12:57pm On Dec 13, 2015
The Deputy Senate President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, has warned that unless the downward slide of the Nigerian economy is halted, the country may witness a revolution by citizens.
Speaking at the opening of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) South East Zonal Executive Council meeting, Mr. Ekweremadu expressed dismay at the handling of the Nigeria’s economy by the All Progressives Congress, APC-led federal government.
He listed the reduction in value of the Naira which exchanged for about N250 to a dollar at the parallel market as well as lack of clear-cut economic blue print as major causes of hardship on the populace.
“Traders who depend on forex are now trapped,” he said at the event in Enugu on Saturday. “In the next six months Onitsha and Alaba markets will shut down. If government does not do anything, I’m not a prophet of doom, but I believe if nothing urgent is done to reverse the ugly development, we will have revolution in our hands.”
“Both our nationals and foreigners are worried; we need to inform APC that Nigerians are dying, unless APC changes style, Nigerians will in 2019 be begging PDP to come back,” he said.
The Deputy Senate President said his party, the PDP, supports the fight against corruption, but it must not be selective and should follow due process and not media trial.
He said PDP is currently facing trying moments but it will come out stronger. He also frowned at the development in the Kogi governorship elections where he alleged that APC governor-elect contested without a deputy.
Yahaya Bello of the APC was declared winner of Kogi governorship election after he defeated incumbent governor Idris Wada of the PDP. Mr. Bello’s election was, however, marred in controversy after he was selected by his party to replace Abubakar Audu who died after he won the main election. Mr. Audu’s deputy, James Faleke, has rejected his nomination as deputy to Mr. Bello and instead asked to be declared governor.
Also at the PDP meeting on Saturday, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Olisa Metuh, challenged the APC-led government to publish the names of those who have reportedly returned stolen funds. He said such people should be tried and jailed if convicted.
President Muhammadu Buhari recently said the government would publish the names of ex-public officials who served in the Goodluck Jonathan administration and were secretly returning stolen public funds to his administration.
Earlier while welcoming the delegates, the National Vice Chairman of the PDP in the South East, Austin Akobundu, said the South East remains one of the geo-political zones in the country where the party was dominant. He urged members to take up the challenge of helping to rebuild the party.

Finland is considering scrapping all welfare benefits and paying all Finns $10,000 a year, regardless of income, wealth or employment status, CNN has reported.

The Finnish government, elected earlier this year plans to introduce a tax-free monthly payment of 800 euros ($865) to all adult Finns.

The report said, ‘’The government thinks that the move will actually save money. Finland’s welfare system is very complex and expensive to run, and the government hopes that simplifying it could reduce costly bureaucracy. The payment would replace most other state benefits.’’

It also argues that the change may encourage more people to look for work. About 9.5 per cent of Finns are currently out of work, the highest rate in more than a decade, and the government believes some people are deterred from working because they are better off on unemployment benefit than accepting a minimum wage job.

The center-right coalition government, which was elected earlier this year, is planning to finalize the proposal in 2016 and run a pilot programme in 2017.

The agency in charge of welfare and national social security is currently designing the program. A trial period could see it make payments of 550 euros a month, while still offering some additional benefits such as housing support.

The government commissioned an opinion poll in September, which found that 69 per cent of Finns agree with the plan. It has not published estimates of the costs, and did not reply to CNNMoney’s request for comment.

Assuming every adult gets the payment, the programme could cost between 40 billion and 50 billion euros ($54 billion) a year.

The richest would pay most of their share back in taxes, the government said.

although, Finnish media, labor unions are opposed to the plan.

PoliticsFayose: Everything Under Buhari Is ‘inconclusive’. The Cable. by PhockPhockMan(op): 9:28pm On Dec 07, 2015
Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti state, has raised the alarm that Nigeria under President Mohammadu Buhari is fast becoming a “shame” while elections under his watch are ending up “inconclusive”.

According to Fayose, the failed attempt by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to manipulate the Bayelsa state governorship election is a “clear invitation to anarchy”.

The governor also warned of the “plot” of Buhari’s government to “destroy democracy in the country”, saying it was shameful that the two elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) “under Buhari’s kinsman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu”, were inconclusive.

“If in three days, INEC could not conduct credible election in Bayelsa State of just eight local governments, one wonders what will happen during the general elections in 2019? Fayose said through Lere Olayinka, his special assistant on public communications and new media.

“Everything under Buhari was becoming inconclusive. The simple reality is that INEC under this Buhari’s kinsman, Prof Yakubu, who is fast becoming the classical example of incompetence, cannot guarantee free and fair elections in this country.”

He saluted the courage of the people of Bayelsa state, describing them as “worthy heroes of democracy that stood their ground against agents of darkness that were prepared to short-change them by imposing a governor they do not want on them”.

He also congratulated the Seriake Dickson, governor Bayelsa state, “for having the people of Bayelsa behind him”.

“The people of Bayelsa have shown that their power is more than that of the Abuja political oppressors,” he said.

“Now that they have failed in their bid to use one local government to rig themselves to power, they will surely go back to their evil drawing board to plan fresh assaults.

“Therefore, Bayelsa people must henceforth sleep with their two eyes open because the APC thieves come not only to steal, but to kill and that can be seen in the way and manner they murdered over 20 people just because they wanted power at all cost.”

While warning on the consequences of destroying the legacy of free, fair and credible electoral process bequeathed on Nigeria by Goodluck Jonathan, Fayose said: “Nigerians, especially we in Ekiti State, are already taking a cue from the Kogi and Bayelsa States’
experience and are getting prepared for future elections.”

PoliticsEx-NSA ; Sambo Dasuki, Denies Implicating Anyone In Arms Procurement Probe. by PhockPhockMan(op): 6:09pm On Dec 03, 2015
A former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, has denied ever making statement implicating anyone or group in the allegation of dubious $2billion arms purchase deal brought against him by the federal government.
There were reports Thursday that Mr. Dasuki, while being quizzed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, named some prominent Nigerians among those who got huge funds from his office while he was NSA.
But Mr. Dasuki, who spoke through his lawyer, Ahmed Raji, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, said he never made any implicating statement or named anyone to EFCC and wondered ‎where the authors got their information from.
“I was with Dasuki yesterday and wish to make categorical statement that my client never made any statement of such nature or named anybody or group in any statement,” PRNigeria quoted Mr. Raji as saying.
“Quote me anywhere, Dasuki has not done anything like that. It is absolutely untrue. It is the figment of the imagination of the authors aimed at creating falsehood for reasons best known to them and Nigerians shou‎ld disregard them.
“They are just out to scandalise the man, bring his image and character into disrepute so that his friends and well wishers can run away from him. They want him deserted and that will fail.”
Meanwhile the case between the Federal Government and Mr. Dasuki over allegations of money laundering and illegal arms possession came up Thursday at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
During Thursday’s proceedings, the federal government appointed a private legal practitioner, Oladipupo Okpeseyitan, SAN, to continue the prosecution of Mr. Dasuki.
Mr. Okpeseyitan, after announcing his appearance, told the trial judge, Justice Adeniyi Ademola, that he had filed a motion for stay of execution of the ruling of the court which granted Mr. Dasuki permission to seek medical treatment.
He applied to the court to put the ruling on hold pending the outcome of the appeal in the matter.
Mr. Raji, in his reply, told the court that he had just been served the motion in court, adding that he needed time to respond.
The case was then fixed for December 8 for hearing.
