Yeah I knew about the Jewish merchants. Actually there is a place in the Caribs were a lot of the people are descendants of these merchants.   I was hoping no one would notice so that I could call someone stooooopid  grin. You are kind of disturbing my insults PhysicsMHD.

She is Jewish. Her name further confirms it. http://www.4crests.com/harshman-coat-of-arms.html

Maybe your friend was denying it?  grin

Nah she is Ok, yeah not physically attractive or anything but at least she can make pounded yam. That would do for most of us.
lol, ok. I believe that she's Jewish now. You're probably right.

And no, he wasn't even part Jewish. Of course maybe somewhere down the line, way way back. . .he could have a Jewish ancestor that he doesn't know about.

@ tom28, she does not look English. She's very Jewish looking.

U guys are stooopid.

Cant you see her features. She is Jewish, probably closer in genetic similarity to the ibo. Na everyone be oyibo to u guys sef  undecided. How are her ancestors slave traders?

Anyways in the spirit of all creepy Yoruba men, I have friended her on facebook. Would tell you guys whats up later  cool.
Some Jews were slave merchants during the transatlantic slave trade.

And I'm not sure she's necessarily Jewish. (Maybe you're assuming she is because of her nose and hair color?).  I had a friend in high school who everybody thought looked Jewish, but it turned out he wasn't.

Also, she's a bit ugly (in my opinion). When I saw her face, the last thing I expected was to find out that anyone was hitting on her.

Are you sure about Jack Johnson?  And, Paul Robeson was much more than a "musician."
I think that's another fabrication on his part:

"Johnson was born in Galveston, Texas, the second child and first son of Henry and Tina "Tiny" Johnson, former slaves who worked at blue-collar jobs to raise six children and taught them how to read and write. Henry Johnson traced his ancestry back to the Coromantees who came from modern-day Ghana.[2] Johnson dropped out of school after just five or six years of education to get a job as a dock worker in Galveston."

DaRapture:
T. in his name stands for the name Tanifeani which is a pretty common Igbo name, he was given that name by his grandmother who passed down the history of his family to him, telling of how they were descendents of the Igbo tribe and much in the same way in how Alex Haley family remembered and passed down many words of their earliest African ancestor in America, "Kunta Kinte", the same was done within Booker Tanifeani Washington's family in relation to their Igbo ancestry.   wink By the way, over 60% of the AA population is believed to be of some significant portion of Igbo ancestry.

Some other well known AA of proven Igbo descent are:

Danny Glover

T.D. Jakes

Forest Whitaker

Meagan Good

The Jackson family

Famous historical boxer "Jack Johnson"

Famous historical musician " Paul Robeson"

just to name a few, for now.
The T stands for Taliaferro, which is a European name. It's taken from an English family with origins in Italy. Where are you getting this Tanifeani stuff?

this is not strictly an igbo behavior. i think black men in general are lecherous pervs. you dont even want to try the african americans. they dont care if she is married or not, they will still try to holla. this is one aspect in which i respect white men. they keep things in perspective. no need to loose your head over a skirt. keep the sexual quest to appropriate places and even at the appropriate places (they, white men) still play it very cool and relaxed.
black men on the other hand are lecherous and smarmy pervs. yes i can say this because i am black and this aspect of blackness irritates me.

if you are going along with the traffic, and you just cross atlantic on bedford heading to fulton, when you just pass herkimer on your right, the first islamic shop you will see is own by a hausa man.

thats before you get to the bargain hunters on the same side. the mosque is just right there if you turn towards facing franklin.

now, bronx is a great reservoir of hausas. they have at least two mosques.

of course the diplomats are in manhattan.

Yes the girl on the left (the taller one) is average at best, but I wouldn't say ugly or damn ugly. The short girl on the right however is cute. Definitely not ugly.

Some people just don't have a sense of humor.

Also, I don't think you (or dayokanu) get the meaning of "I'd hit it." It just means somebody's doable. Not necessarily that they're amazing looking. I think I'm just more honest than you guys.

ekt_bear:
Why do you say that the PDP is a Northern party? What is your basis for saying this? OBJ and various other scoundrels distributed across the country seem to be the prime movers.
They have a disproportionately high influence. They call too many shots. An example of this is OBJ being "elected" president because of his Northern connections, despite not being wanted in the south.

Outnumbered by the 3 northern zones
There are three southern zones. What do you mean by outnumbered? Population wise?

If that happens, then effectively you've replicated the PDP, but with the northern elements kicked out and weakened. It seems to me that if your goal is to weaken the Northern elements, there are probably better ways of doing it, no?
What do you mean by this?

I meant that the issue of fake population figures and bold faced lies like "Kano state is more populous than Lagos" could be a pretext for taking Nigeria from the system it currently practices to a system in which different areas have more autonomy. If they want to keep the population claims, let them, but the system should be set up in a way that their supposed population dominance does not affect the ability of other areas to govern themselves well.

We should be talking about highly educated tutors not how "fine" a building is. That is why people fail Uni grades
The building is just weird looking. That's all. I wasn't saying (possibly expensive) architecture should really be a focus.

I don't think building weird looking buildings is standard practice across all of Africa, but I could be wrong.

SS would abandon PDP, despite the president being from there? Why? Because the SE abandoned it?  undecided

Are they fools?

Anyway, let's say SS and SE abandon it both. GEJ remains in PDP, but his support base has left him. Then the PDP becomes an almost entirely northern party.

How does that kill or punish the PDP?
The point is that PDP needs to be exposed as a Northern party, not a party of unity.

If all of the south leaves PDP, there's

1) a chance of a southern alliance (which could lead to meritocratic practices in many spheres of life being adhered to, if that alliance was to win)

2) a chance of the completely northern PDP weakening and fracturing along middle belt vs. core north lines, and the north being permanently weakened, or the middle belt might choose to align with one or all of the southern groups

3) a chance that if the southern alliance or the non-PDP parties are unable to beat the northern PDP, then the issue of the bogus northern population figures may be looked into and pressed by the southern groups. If this issue isn't rectified, perhaps it could be a good pretext for changing the power structure of the country to a more federal one, with more autonomy for different areas

DOnt hate, celebrate
I've only been to Edo state, Delta State, and Lagos and even then, I've never visited a university. What's with these weird designs? What's the point?

I've seen uniquely "Nigerian-style" houses (in terms of architecture) built by rich people that are good looking. Why can't they do the same for the universities?

@OP,
This one is old.
Though I can immediately predict how this particular thread will play out:

- The Igbo chaps will claim her immediately, as proof of how intelligent the Igbos are, and how dumb the others, especially Yorubas, are.
- The Yorubas will bounce back by listing 10 other Yoruba chicks who also write, sing, or act, while immediately dismissing Chimamanda as a mere pop tart, plus also remind everybody how a Yoruba man is the only Nobel Laureate.
- The dudes from the Romance section will applaud her frontals.
- The conspiracy theorists will move the thread in the direction of how the white man has suppressed our great authors like Chimamanda.
- The NL intellectuals will start a debate regarding which school in the US she attended, and how well it compares to the one they currently attend, and throw in a lament of how Nigerian education has gone to the dogs. Plus an analysis of what her IQ is likely to be, whether or not she's a member of MENSA, and so on.
-Maybe Musiwa might throw in a map of her ancestral home, plus the waypoints to where she currently lives.

Nobody will bother to discuss the talk itself.

A more recent stat of HDI across Nigerian states. Data from >>here<<.
How are they calculating these stats?

In this report, Edo state has the third lowest "human poverty index" after Abuja and Lagos, but only a mediocre HDI. In other reports, Edo state is nowhere near the third lowest in "poverty rate".

Something makes me think a lot of these reports are unreliable.
