After reading the full story I knew something was amiss, the said hospital has come forward to refute the claims- Says No student doctor ‘butchered’ any patient in Edo Specialist Hospital

The Management of Edo State Specialist Hospital, Benin City, has dismissed a claim by one Mr. Sunday Oghogho, that a student doctor ‘butchered’ his late wife at the facility, saying all surgeries in the hospital are conducted by competent specialist doctors.

It said the rebuttal became necessary following an allegation by Oghogho that the hospital was liable for the death of the deceased.

This was stated in a statement by the management, which was made available to newsmen.

Oghogho had claimed, among others, that he received a phone call from the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, on April 18 that his attention was needed at the hospital in respect of his wife’s death.

He alleged in a Facebook post that when he got to the hospital with some of his family members, they met the CMD and eight other doctors of the hospital who apologised to him and his family and admitted that they had discovered that it was a student doctor who operated on his wife.

But denying this claim, the hospital’s statement reads:

As much as I acknowledge that our government is ridiculous, I want to also state clearly here that these doctors are also to greedy with so much of entitlement mentality. They want the world from the government because they are doctors and can always go on strike.
These same people will come back to fight any other health profession seeking for a good ground in the health sector.
If you leave these greedy lots, they will want to work alone in the hospital or better still be the only people earning in hospital while others just work.

If you have passed through a public university in Nigeria and then you think Dr. Ngige isn't making sense , then you should forfeit your degree.

Education in Nigeria is heavily subsidized. Nigeria cannot train you almost free of charge and then you run away to a foreign country when Nigeria lacks sufficient manpower in your field of endeavor. The practice is worse than being unpatriotic. It is wickedness.

Medical doctors spend less than a million naira in tuition in Federal universities to complete their program. In fact, during the NYSC program, most medical students make back the money they spent on their tuition.


Many medical doctors in the foreign countries you wickedly dump Nigeria for spend the first two years of their career paying back student loans. Their salary is high because of the high cost of living in their country which is why they pay an average of 100,000 USD for medical education ( tuition+ others fees).

The government doesn't intend to stop you from migrating. No, they'll be stupid to do that because it's against the tenets of FHRs .
The FG is simply telling you, if Nigeria is the worst country on Earth, go to Canada, US or UK and spend 50,000 USD to acquire medical training and then work for them. If you want to benefit from our subsidy then you must compulsorily serve us for a few couple of years.

However, the policy of the FG is not good for the long run because medical consultants, experts and specialists will greatly reduce in Nigerian hospitals as there's no embargo placed against them.

What's the need of having many medical doctors who are not really proficient?

The best practice remains improving the welfare of Medical practitioners and enlightening them of their Hippocratic oath to serve their black brothers and sisters.

Oga are u referring to medical schools in Nigeria. Currently Oga I am paying almost 210k for Nursing in a state university. Do u know private Universities pay close to 2 Milla. U still have to pay for accommodation of close to 200k for selfcon, pay for feeding, clothings and miscellaneous. Oga ur not in touch with reality. When u check it, ur spending close to a million per yr in a state university. Let's have sense.
