mars123: it is clear you don't like Buhari, dont even try denying. I have seen the French president grant interviews in English. if he can do that, why can't Buhari grant interviews in hausa moreover, Buhari on that same day and place did the interview in hausa, and after that in English. check YouTube for confirmation. You wailers cannot just take a break, and it's not that you have done a background check before creating a thread. This is not about wailing, please don't get me wrong. He should stop granting formal interviews in Hausa, that's all I am saying. |

It just pains me to see Nigerians trying to make a big deal out of little things that mean less, at a time like this. I love this country, that is why I am not okay with this situation, it fosters disunity, it's not good |

Funny enough they usually start their needless epistle with"This is not anti-Buhari.....This is not anti APC....."
I don't care the language he grants interview with so long he gets the job done. That's what I voted him for not to nitpick on his accent or language.
Bloody hypocrites and ethnic fools, and they are. Complaining about Nigeria not working Why shouldn't you care about this? I am sure you were one of those people laughing at PEJ, why shouldn't it bother you now? |

simonlee: Have you ever come across Buhari speaking hausa in a formal gathering? Let's be realistic about this now. President Buhari doesn't address the nation in his native tongue, as far as I know. Honestly, I think you're just one of those haters who are gathering your fellow walkers to pick on our dear president. If you don't like Buhari, kindly pack your bags and leave the country. Return in 2019 and vote him out. Finish! Where did you hear me say i don't like Buhari? Be nice now, why are you trying to drive me away from my own country? |

Immatex: It's either he speaks to foreign media or speaks in Hausa to foreign media.
In Nigeria he only reads scripts prepared for him by others.
Sparingly he makes passive comments to journalist in Nigeria.
Yet before election he was even on Narialand, claimed he owned an IPad, Facebook page, Instagram account and twitter account just to reach the widest audience with unrealistic exaggerated promises.
Since he won he left the showbiz business to speak Hausa. I agree, don't think he can converse without reading scripts. |

This is not an Anti-party thread, rather it is one that I hope will inspire national consciousness regardless of the party you support.
It is rather worrisome that we have been reading translated versions of formal interviews granted by our dear president. Many of us will like to receive first-hand information on such interviews granted to the media.
Here are a few other reasons why I think we should be a bit concerned about this trend:
1) English is our official language and as a president who believes in one Nigeria, PMB should lead by example and uphold this for the sake of national unity
2) Granting formal interviews in his mother tongue makes some of us view him only by his ethnicity, this is not too good, as we already have the challenge of finding unity in our diversity.
3) It gives undue importance to one language over others
4) It further helps to aggravate people from other regions and promotes disunity
5) Our youths are highly educated and for him to appear as such, he should communicate in Englishlanguage because it is used as the main medium of education in our country
6) More Northerners who appear to prefer speaking their dialect will want to learn English If our president uses it as a medium of communication and this will increase interest in education.
7) Past presidents avoided this for the above reasons, hence he should do same
While I support learning and speaking our mother tongue especially in informal situations, note that I mentioned that this should be avoided by our president in "Formal interviews" and other "Formal engagements" I Believe in one Nigeria.

Family › Re: Women Need To Be Taught To See Beyond Marriage by Pidggin(f): 8:39am On Dec 28, 2015 |
kelvinclint: .Girls need to be taught to see beyond marriage. . An average Nigerian girl, or say African girls in a broader scope wants to grow up, finish school and just get married. Nothing limits a woman as much as this. A man plans his life thus- . "grow up, MAKE MONEY, raise a family". . A girl plans hers like- . "grow up, finish school, get married". . Girls are not taught to dream independently, they think their final destination is in a man's home. The "better tomorrow" they are taught to dream of is a tomorrow inside their husband's home. No! It's wrong. You need to first carve a life for yourself before you put yourself in the control of a man. . Girls are taught To dream to be Queens. Meaning they are taught that no matter how high they fly they still have to be under a man, her king.... When they could actually be Kings themselves. . You might say getting married doesn't stop you from winning, but that's false. Marriage creates a lot of limitation for women... Socially, economically, even psychologically. Women are home makers. A woman's primary concern is building a home. When you finish school and you get married almost immediately, childbirth, domestic duties, etc will limit your hustle. You are gonna live your life in the shadow of your husband. You are gonna be just another puppet in the hands of your husband. . Some women even become housewives, like you live all your life under the sole control of a man? From being under your dad straight to being under a man.... How do you live with that? . Women need to be taught to dream. They need to be taught they are also an independent being, and they also need to carve out a life for themselves. . African parents need to stop putting pressure on their female children to get married immediately after school. Teach them to strive like they are the ones going to raise a family on their own. Boys are brought up to strive, to create a Kingdom, why can't women be taught to be same? . Women and men will never ever be equal if women are trained to see their ultimate end in the comfort of marriage. Take your time, how can you be just 23 and you are already feeling ripe to marry? What have you achieved? Will you die if you don't get married quickly? . Girls need to focus more on personal development after school. Life starts after school... Try to make a living for yourself. Girls need to stop being pressured to marry too quickly! They are not men's properties! . Y'all need a new mindset Africans. God bless |

MIM77: The station is called BBC Hausa, therefore everything about it must be in hausa including d interview with d President. Afterall, he has bn interviewed many times in local n international english stations without flaws. Let us wish our today's leaders d best cos our 2mrw depends on it, instead of talking anyhow without bases. Wailers cannot stop dis country from moving forward by God's grace. An average wailer wud rather hv Pmb fail just to make a point. How i wish such wailers can be exempted from d goodies dat is in d offing, but nt possible. This is not about wailing. What is wrong is wrong. Imagine how you would have viewed GEJ if you had to get updates about his plans or policies from radio Bayelsa, from a translated version of the original interview he granted the station. It is wrong. No previous president has done this, his Northern brothers never did this, it is not right. |

I wonder why you people didn't criticize Obj when as president he granted the same BBC an interview speaking Hausa. You must be Hausa. mu2sa2: Surely. Across the north Hausa is the common language among the various ethnic groups, that's why it's so widely spoken. We are talking about a Nigerian president, not a Northern Nigerian president. The North is only a part of Nigeria, elsewhere Hausa is not spoken widely, so he should be sensitive about this. |
