@Stillwater; The TV executives are mainly Jews and Christians; regular goers of religious houses of worships.
Most TV executives are not Jews or Christians, nor do they regulalrly attend religious houses of worship. There is as much reason to believe that most TV executives who approve questionable content are Muslims - we just never get to read them on the net, but we know about them!

olabowale:
And by the way, the Bible is stocked in Hotel rooms and suites around the world.
So is the Qur'an - if you are quite travelled, this shouldn't be a difficult one to verify. Sample the following:

Raja Petra Kamarudin comments:

One of the first hotels to accept our Quran was the ‘kafir’ hotels
like Hotel Nikko. The ‘Muslim’ hotels owned by Pernas did not want
to accept them because it was too much trouble for them to have to
‘look after’ the Quran.

- - - - - -

Proposed Project of United Muslim Foundation (UMF):

A new project will soon be underway, to have copies of the translation
of the Holy Quran in hotels so that tourists to Orlando and other places
around the USA will be able to read the true word of God for themselves.

You should keep with the times - and simple issues like that would not be an amazement to you! cheesy

olabowale:
I don't think anyone who brings out marketing of porns will boldly tell you that he/she was inspired by verses or section of the Bible!
True.

olabowale:
But you can get a common thread going through them. Afterall, the christians claimed the Bible to be the best sellers, probably the best read.
It is not a "Christian" claim - go do the research yourself! grin Rather than keep whining, simply contribute to place any version from the 5 versions of the Qur'an in any 'kafir' hotel around the world! Ask Raja Petra for more info!

olabowale:
But what is read for by individual is another story.
True again.

Apparently Denex has not studied his Bible. Slavery is rampant throughout the Bible in both the Old and New Testaments. The Bible clearly approves of slavery in many passages, and it goes so far as to tell how to obtain slaves, how hard you can beat them, and when you can have sex with the female slaves.

However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. (Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT)

If you buy a Hebrew slave, he is to serve for only six years. Set him free in the seventh year, and he will owe you nothing for his freedom. If he was single when he became your slave and then married afterward, only he will go free in the seventh year. But if he was married before he became a slave, then his wife will be freed with him. If his master gave him a wife while he was a slave, and they had sons or daughters, then the man will be free in the seventh year, but his wife and children will still belong to his master. But the slave may plainly declare, 'I love my master, my wife, and my children. I would rather not go free.' If he does this, his master must present him before God. Then his master must take him to the door and publicly pierce his ear with an awl. After that, the slave will belong to his master forever. (Exodus 21:2-6 NLT)

When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. And if the slave girl's owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter. If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife. If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment. (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)

When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property. (Exodus 21:20-21 NAB)

Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ. (Ephesians 6:5 NLT)

Christians who are slaves should give their masters full respect so that the name of God and his teaching will not be shamed. If your master is a Christian, that is no excuse for being disrespectful. You should work all the harder because you are helping another believer by your efforts. Teach these truths, Timothy, and encourage everyone to obey them. (1 Timothy 6:1-2 NLT)

The servant will be severely punished, for though he knew his duty, he refused to do it. "But people who are not aware that they are doing wrong will be punished only lightly. Much is required from those to whom much is given, and much more is required from those to whom much more is given." (Luke 12:47-48 NLT)

@pilgrim, I am not here to argue with you because you are hell bent on derailing the real premise of the argument. What you accused me of is an assumption and not a fact because you do not know my relationship with RCCG or any other church.
I'm not in this thread to either argue, or be hellbent on derailing anything. The allegations you level against others do not prove that you have an inkling of their relationships with any pastor or church. If you may be free to lay such claims, others have their prerogative to point out these mendacious hypocrisy and ask you to kindly smart up for it!

hotfunmi:
The truth is that I am scarcely attached emotionally to any church or pastor like many of you do and it affords me the opportunity to see through my rims.
Lol, hotfunmi. . how many people do you suppose are emotionally attached to their pastors? grin Do you see how you make sweeping generalizations and yet tend to often cry hooha when the same inferences are applied to you?

hotfunmi:
The other fellow asked me whether it's my money and i can as well shut up, here you are accusing me of painting RCCg black when all I said was their pastor stole and if we look deeper, there will be others.
Go back to my first post - I didn't make the remotest inference to any of the ideas you have whined up here. Of course, it boils down to the same thing - that you're seeking a back door entrance from one particular case to blow it to "others", thank you and well done! grin

hotfunmi:
I don't do church politics especially after our Nigerian pastor in our local church here touched my sisters breast 2x in our own house.
I'm sad to read that. I really apologise that you might have had such an experience. However, would that be reason for you to make generalized statements about others where you simply have no clue about their particular cases?

hotfunmi:
My question to you remains, what has the long thesis and how zachaeus climbed the sycamore tree got to do with the pastor stealing tithes? It's a lot of who shot john to me. I am too old to be hoodwinked. So, get lost!
Thanks for the words in bold! grin Zacchaeus was not even mentioned in my posts, unless you'd have a rational for asking him to comply with the same words in bold.

Enjoy.

@longman83,

longman83:
d_oracle,

As pilgrim.1 has shown, God let Moses off the hook once his son had been circumsized. This shows that the problem here was Moses' apparent disobedience to God's covenant of circumcision which he instituted with Abraham and all his descendants in Genesis 17:

9 Then God said to Abraham, "As for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you for the generations to come. 10 This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised. 11 You are to undergo circumcision, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and you. 12 For the generations to come every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised, including those born in your household or bought with money from a foreigner—those who are not your offspring. 13 Whether born in your household or bought with your money, they must be circumcised. My covenant in your flesh is to be an everlasting covenant. 14 Any uncircumcised male, who has not been circumcised in the flesh, will be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant."

We know from the end of this chapter that Abraham circumcized his son Ishmael and all the males in his household. Later in Gen 21:4 Abraham also circumcized Isaac when he was eight days old. Jacob's sons were circumsized (Genesis 34:15,22), and they undoubtedly carried this tradition of the circumcision covenant into Egypt. So from the above, it is probable that this tradition survived through the Israelite stay in Egypt. Moses himself must have been circumcized; if not God wouldn't have been pacified by just the circumcision of his son.

It is also possible that God reminded Moses of the circumcision covenant beforehand. This may have been necessary due to Moses' long 40-year sojourn in the desert with foreign peoples (one of whom he married - Zipporah) and subsequent disconnection with Israel. Moses' non-compliance is at least due to Zipporah's disapproval of the rite, in part - she registers her displeasure by calling him a 'bridegroom of blood' or 'bloody husband' after the incident.

As dafidixone and pilgrim.1 have stated, the lesson here is that God is no respecter of persons. If indeed Moses was to become the lawgiver and mediator of God's covenant with Israel, then Moses first had to come to terms with the reality of a just and holy God. In other words, he could not be found to be in disregard of God's previous circumcision covenant - a rite that Moses would later incorporate into God's Law (Lev. 12:3).
Thanks for sharing in detail. I was a tad lazy to expatiate as you did. wink

She is not at fault here. Its your Bible writers who are at fault or better yet, address the issues.
The so-called Bible writers that you want to conveniently lay the blame on were the same prophets whom 'Allah' asked you to believe in -
Qur'an 5 v 44:

It was We who revealed the law (to Moses): therein was guidance and light. By its standard have been judged the Jews, by the prophets who bowed (as in Islam) to God's will, by the rabbis and the doctors of law: for to them was entrusted the protection of God's book, and they were witnesses thereto: therefore fear not men, but fear me, and sell not my signs for a miserable price. If any do fail to judge by (the light of) what God hath revealed, they are (no better than) Unbelievers.
Perhaps you may want to sample the CV of 'Allah' in your Qur'an?

@hotfunmi,

Sometimes your posts make me wonder whether or not you carefully read through before making postulations. Here, let me walk you through your own misgivings:

hotfunmi:
Who is accusing the whole church? The story was RCCG pastor stole church tithe and he/she replied with prayer points. What has prayer points gotta do with the story?
Your premise was to use the case of one allegation against a pastor to make a sweeping lambast against the RCCG. Of course, not so many people will be able to see through the cavalier until they re-read this part of your quote carefully enough:

hotfunmi:
@dafidixone, what has this prayer got to do with the fact that their pastor stole their tithes? I am sure that if you investigate more, there will be other pastors that do the same. . . Somebody is stealing from you and you are quoting prayer points.
One case has become the case of "other pastors" - and your idea of being objective is to make a sweeping statement that somebody is stealing "from you", as if the pastor being accused was actually stealing from dafidixone!

If you want to be very particular about one incident, why not stick with it and deal with it in that context?

hotfunmi:
And now you came back with a thesis and probable defence strategy.
Please grow up. Where did I try to "defend" stealing? I really would like to see you quote me directly and not make such cheap inferences just to sound intelligent.

hotfunmi:
Sweeping your problems under the rug will not make them go away.
Sorry, it is not my problem; and hooting so loud and incessantly about this case is not going to promote your life either.

hotfunmi:
The truth is that most of these ministers and pastors use your head in the name of bible.
Haha! Perhaps you're talking out of experience! grin No vex. . . they never used my head, nor will they be able to do so.

hotfunmi:
Take it or leave it unless you are a religious LovePeddler. Stop all these "oh my pastor" and "oh my church" moves for it's no less than idolatory.
I hear. Unless you have a sanctimonious version of your own whoredom to preserve, I don't see where I have tried to make anybody in this thread a matter of "oh my pastor" or "oh my church".

Please I'm seeking clarifications on those Biblical verses and not comments about your (or anybody's) faith or belief, which is personal.
I hear. Do you mind whinning on such pretences? No one is doodled about your claim of seeking "clarifications" - and that's why comments will be offered to invite you to enter a discussion rather than post your misgivings and the scoot off.

Alphazee:
The Bible was presented to me by a preacher, to read and believe. I have read, but should I believe without questions?
No one has said you should not read without questions - the Bible itself holds out this invitation: "come now, and let us reason together" (Isaiah 1:18) - did you never read that as well? Where did you demonstrate that you were willing to reason in a collective manner with others as you opened several threads on the same endless run-off the mill quotes?

I also asked you to address a few things I observed - reminder: where you read a "sex contest" in the Book of Esther - did you demonstrate you were willing to discuss or reason?

These comments are to help you drop your facade and be real. Of course, you do not need anyone's "help", and that is why comments will be the first few things you will read until you demonstrate a level of willingness to drop your mendacity and sit down for some fine discussion, if you care.

Alphazee:
Should I not be “open to reason” (James 3:17 RSV)?
As above.

Alphazee:
But let me be quick to add that I admire your courage and consistency in reacting to my posts. Others are scared at reading those verses I put forward, not to talk of making any comments on them.
Actually, I have taken the time to read through them and more - and that's why I expect that you would post some more in new threads as time goes on. If it wasn't for the fact that these issues have been soundly laid to rest so many times while I was reading them, I probably would have ended up with doubts. We used the same quotes as Muslims to "attack" Christians and the Bible. . . until Christ touched my heart in a supernatural way! I can't believe that He could still forgive me for all the bitter things I said against Him and against Christians! It is my sincere hope and prayer that you may come to experience His love as well. cheesy

Alphazee:
Please fellows be COURAGEOUS to read quotes from your own Bible! "Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord" (Isa.1:18)
Ahh! There. That is why we encourage you to garner as much courage and come sit down and let's see you reason out these views instead of making summary inference that do not have any bearing in the Bible - as you did with the "sexual contest" for Esther and Vashti.

Can we see that "courage" in you?

Enjoy. smiley

@Alphazee,

Alphazee:
That's exactly the point. To some of us some of those verses quoted can inspire the Pornographic Industry.
You haven't made any sane point. The pornography industry does not consult the Bible for any "inspiration", and if you're going to make any sense at all, let us know when was the last time anyone involved in the pornography industry ever took a peep into the Bible for such "inspiration" as you infer?

Alphazee:
Read them again and address the issues one by one or verse by verse and disabuse the minds of those who are inclined to think that way.
A few cases have been presented to you, Alphazee. Please address them if you are actually thinking of a genuine discussion.

Alphazee:
That's healthy debate.
A healthy debate does not consist of posting verses and scooting away - you don't run off the mill and interject your idea with appeals to "a healthy debate" where you have not demonstrated any level to enter into a good discussion.

Alphazee:
Why are you resorting to attacking personalities rather than issues?
Issues have been presenting - is it too much to ask you to deal with them?

Alphazee:
Whom are you reporting to the Moderator? Since when has quoting the Bible become offensive?
I don't know who reported you to the moderator, or where anyone has said so. Do the quotes you posted sound like anyone was reporting you to any Moderator - or was that another mechanical device to detract from the real issues that you have failed to address? When you're done whinning, do you mind to address issues?
Christianity Etc › Re: Redeem Pastor Steals Tithe by pilgrim1(f): 11:50am On Feb 01, 2008
hotfunmi:
@dafidixone, what has this prayer got to do with the fact that their pastor stole their tithes? . . Somebody is stealing from you and you are quoting prayer points.
That any pastor is accused of stealing tithes or other financial malpractices does not therefore mean that the whole Church should come under the allegation.

There are many people in highly respected positions today that have been accused of all sorts - within Nigeria and in other places. Christ Embassy (Believers LoveWorld) has weathered its own stormy episode and the gist has been discussed on this Forum as well. Yep, Benny Hinn's saga was another episode discussed on this Forum as well. Thousands more happen around the world which have not been discussed yet on the Forum. But do these allegations of these individuals adversely affect the whole?

Let's bring the picture closer home:
Every single day since being called to a place of high financial trust, this fellow was busy stealing from the treasury. His colleagues knew about the shady deals and financial malpratices of the gentleman in question; but they didn't let that derail them from their singular objective. Of course, the fellow got several serious warnings from the 'Boss', but he chose rather to continue with his malpractices. No one ever brought any allegation of rape and adultery against him; and when a special transaction was commissioned, he also achieved great success along with his colleagues.

Perhaps a few people besides his colleagues might have suspected that the gentleman was not to be trusted as he had problems with money - we cannot say for sure; and as far as we know, it's only fair to say no more than mere public suspicion. However, what the public was more concerned with was what the whole group stood for - the group had one driving force that was always promoting the lives of everyone they came in contact with! Of course, they were hated by other groups - but they never failed to keep their focus on their singular objective! In the end, they have remained a force to be reckoned with in the world today, inspite of increasing attacks on them from every part of the world!
The above simply illustrates the case with Judas and the apostles. They knew that Judas did not care for the poor, but was "a thief, had the bag, and bare what was put therein" (John 12:6). Jesus gave him several warnings (John 6:70-71); but Judas simply went on stealing. . . until his greed led him to betray Jesus for 30 pices of silver.

Yet, all the time that Judas was stealing money from the treasury, there was only one thing in Jesus' mind - John 4:34. The apostles likewise did not let accusations here and there about whatever to derail their commission. Today, inspite of all the accusations, the Gospel is being preached to every nation - and lives are being blessed.

Please note well - these accusations are not limited to just leaders in Churches. Imams in Mosques also do the same; non-religious folks in various financial institutions do the same; and even in the home today, kids do not need to be religiously conscious before they filch nickles from their parents' purses and wallets!

When I read complaints about people being accused in churches about this, that or the other, I often think of the wisdom in apostle Paul's summations in this regard:

Php. 1:18
What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence,
or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea,
and will rejoice.

There's far more than the accusations of financial misappropriation in the Church. Christ is preached - and therein I do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice - that surely is not a hard thing to do when you keep your focus on Jesus!! Those who are disciples of Judas can keep chasing after their 30 pieces of silver in and out of the Church - but no such allegations can bring down the Church or the Gospel!

Certainly accusations should be examined and the guilty party dealt with accordingly (1 Tim. 5:19 & 20). But friends, as long as you do not participate in such vices, keep your focus on Jesus - and nothing will shake you!

The attacks began around mid-day when about 27 armed robbers violated the sanctity of Canaanland in Sango, Ogun State, by raiding four banks there.

One banker was lucky during the attack. Bullet reportedly pierced through one of his shoes and came out at the other side.

Canaanland accomodates the Covenant University, Faith Academy, Kingdom Heritage Schools and the Living Faith Church, otherwise known as Winners Chapel, among others.

The banks involved in the raid are Oceanic Bank Plc, United Bank for Africa, Spring Bank Plc and Covenant Micro-Finance Bank.

Our correspondents gathered that the robbers divided themselves into four groups and struck at the same time at the four banks.

An eyewitness said the robbers, who drove into the Christian community in three vehicles, virtually emptied the banks‘ vaults.

The witness claimed that the bandits were provoked into killing the policemen and the bank official following resistance at the UBA branch.

Another witness said people who saw the men could not believe they were armed robbers because they dressed like gentlemen.

“I was actually about to enter one of the banks when I suddenly heard gunshots. I was too afraid to move, it was my brother-in-law who was with me that dragged me away from the scene,” she said.

When our correspondent visited the scene on Thursday afternoon, bullet holes were seen on the UBA‘s building.

Besides, the beret and shoes of one of the slain policemen were seen on the floor within the bank‘s premises. There were also bloodstains on the floor and walls.

But just as the news of the attack on Canaanland spread, policemen shot dead three people in Ijaiye- Ojokoro on the Lagos -Abeokuta Expressway.

The three men who were riding in a Mazda 323 car were said to have refused to yield to the demand for gratification by the law enforcement officers attached to the Ijaiye- Ojokoro Police Station.

A source said that the policemen pursued the vehicle and shot at the occupants when the car slowed down because of a bump at Car-Wash bus stop.

Angry residents of the area then took to the street and marched towards the police station, causing mayhem.

It was gathered that the residents chased out policemen from the station before setting it on fire.

However, the timely reinforcement of policemen from the Area ‘G’ Command, Ogba, saved the station from complete destruction.

When contacted, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Mr. Joseph Apapa, said he was yet to receive details of the Canaanland incident.

Apapa said, ”You know Canaanland is a private estate. I am yet to be briefed on the incident. I just came back from Abuja. We don‘t have anything to hide, as soon as I get the facts if you call me back, I will give you everything. However, you can call the PPRO.”

But the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Femi Awoyale, who confirmed the incident, claimed that the bandits only struck at Oceanic Bank.

He said, ”You are aware that Canaanland is a private property. When the robbers came, our men were alerted and they fought them gallantly, although we lost two men.

Also, at the Trade Fair International Complex on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, two people were feared killed in a clash between rival factions of the Auto-Spare Parts and Machinery Dealers Association.

Trouble was said to have started when a former president of ASPAMDA, identified as Chief Okeh, stormed the market with riot policemen in a bid to force out the incumbent president, simply identified as Adidax.

Our correspondents gathered that Okeh lost his bid for a second term in 2007 but headed for the court, claiming that the election was rigged.

It was learnt that he came back to the complex on Thursday with a court injunction showing that he had been declared winner.

A source said that fracas broke out when Okeh attempted to move into the ASPAMDA office. Two people were feared dead and many injured in the process.

The Acting PPRO, Lagos State Police Command, Mr. Olumide Jimoh, said policemen had taken charge of the Ijaye-Ojokoro and the Trade Fair incidents.

He claimed that the driver of the Mazda car at Ijaye was driving recklessly, thereby arousing police curiosity.

At about the same time, our correspondents learnt that another gang of armed robbers attacked a bank at Mushin, Lagos.

It was not clear as at press time, however, whether the robbers succeeded in getting to the bank’s vault.

But Jimoh said he was not aware of any bank robbery in Mushin.

In a related development, one policeman was feared killed at Aguda, Surulere, Lagos area of Lagos State on Wednesday night when a gang of bandits allegedly ambushed a police van.

The van, marked NPF 9542 B, was sighted at the premises of the Aguda Police Station on Thursday, riddled with bullets.

stillwater:
Since you are after obscenities make sure you pour your energies on campaigning against pornography which is becoming more accessible to even kids day by day.
Good observation. It is also remarkable to note that the pornography industry today on its own has grown into a multi-billion dollar venture - without recourse to being Bible-"ordained"!

@olabowale,

olabowale:
@Imhotep: For sure I do not have Christ, Jesus son of Virgin Mary (as).
We know - that's why your restless agigated spirit seeks to castigate Him as you have severally done in other threads.

The choice is yours: He loves you and wants to give you peace for the soul and grant you the gift of eternal life - before you die and have to face Him as the Judge in that Day!

olabowale:
For indeed, you can not be a muslim, unless you accept all Prophets/Mseesngers of God!
You meant to say: "you can not be a muslim, unless you pretend to accept ALL Prophets/Messengers of God" - for we have seen how many times Muslims deride the prophets, malign Jesus Christ, and deny their revelations when people expose the Muslim hypocrisy of trying to force Muhammad into the Bible.

If you truly "accept" ALL the prophets, what have you done with the revelations of such prophets as:

~ Isaiah

~ Jeremiah

~ Ezekiel

~ Zechariah

~ Daniel

~ Joel

~ Micah

. . . and several others who have collectively spoken of divine matters that Muhammad DENIED and thereby qualified himself as a false prophet?

olabowale:
Show me the writings of the apostles, Paul the next generation, and the epistles? Do you have them in the Qur'an? Don't be silly in your eagerness to be negative. Instead you are coming across as being completely dishonest!
Before you accuse others of coming across as completely dishonest, do you mind to take care of your own duplicity? Are you not one of those who tried to smuggle Muhammad into the writings of the apostles in the New Testament - particularly the Gospel of John? John was an apostle of Jesus Christ; and your Muslim hypocrisy of trying to read Muhammad into his Gospel account was bleached colourless before you guys predictably turned round and started attacking the Bible from all fronts! grin

olabowale:
Since there is no ritualistic cleanliness in Christianity, no wonder you take the Bathroom along with you!
We should go to Afghanistan and see how "clean" the Muslims there truly are - in spite of the many kettles they have bought off the market! Or in Pakistan?

olabowale:
People stink if they don't clean up properly, you know!
We know - I've been to the far Muslim north of Nigeria and lived there in my years before leaving Islam. I truly know how Muslims stink, pardon me.

@Tboy007,

If a medal was to be awarded for the most hypocritical remarks in this thread, you deserve it alone, second to none!

You pretend to look the other way and complain about remarks being uncomplimentary and "Islamphobic" when your own Muslim brethren have incessantly attacked the convictions of Christians endlessly, blasphemed Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit with derogatory remarks in this and other threads, and have cursed like cursing machines in the example of the cursing Muhammad who took his hatred against Jews and Christians to his grave!

Muslims are welcome to curse like Muhammad as much as they want - I've often cautioned them with replies from the Psalms. At the end of the day, you will come back to find how true it is that the Muslim incessant attacks on the Bible, Jesus Christ and Christianity are a fruitless adventure!

Alphazee:
Are these verses Inspired By God? embarassed
The topic does not ask what is "inspired" or not; rather it begs the conscience of the poster who queries whether obscenities are "ordained". There is a huge difference between the two terms - and the twist simply shows the poster's motive.

However, I would like to ask Alphazee to carefully reflect on few examples:

Alphazee:
ES 2:2-17 King Ahasuerus holds a sexual contest with "fair young virgins" to pick a new Queen (after having been spurned by Queen Vashti). shocked
Do you mind showing where you read the "sexual contest" in that passage?

Alphazee:
HA 2:15 "Woe to him who gives drink to his neighbors, pouring it from the wineskin till they are drunk, so that he can gaze on their naked bodies."

MK 14:51-52 A young man discards his clothing and flees naked.
How do the above show that they were "ordained" as obscenities? cheesy

I was once told by a learned lady that every reported speech is distorted, that the only reported book in human history that is yet distorted is the bible, don't you know its the best selling book of all time.
Okay, I repent. When I heard from a close friend's chum that the Bible is the best selling book of ALL time, I was like. . . 'this guy is overstating things!' But I've been hearing and reading that statement ever so frequently that I decided to check several sources to ascertain whether that was an unbiased claim from neutral investigators and pollers. The following results confirm the case for me:

From Wikipedia List of best-selling single-volume books:

#1. Bible | Approximate sales: 5 to 6 Billion
reference cited:
The Top 10 of Everything 2002 by Russell Ash

#2. 毛主席语录 Máo-zhǔxí yǔlù | Approximate sales: 900 million

reference cited:
The Top 10 of Everything 2002 by Russell Ash

#3. القرآن ‎(The Qur'an) | Approximate sales: 800 million

- - - - - - - - - - - - -

Another source posts the Russell Ash reference on its website with the first two listing (#1. The Bible; and #2. Máo-zhǔxí yǔlù), but does not feature the Qur'an.

I wonder why even the BookSeller World website does the same as above and does not feature the Qur'an!

The same listing in reverse order was carried by the Book Worm Search website, without listing the Qur'an.

Comparing the Wikipedia listing, one would see that the Bible tops the Qur'an six times over! And that's not an "abrogated" listing!

The other day when someone was talking about the number of languages the Qur'an has been translated into, I stumbled across this listing from Wikipedia as well:

#1. The Bible - 2, 426 languages

#2. Pinocchio - 260, > 200 languages

#5. Qur'an - 102 languages

As for the Wikipedia "The 100 Most Influential Books Ever Written", the Jewish Scripture (Torah) ranks #1 on that list; the New Testament ranks #18; while the Qur'an comes behind as #26.
