There are similarities and differences in the systems employed by Liverpool and City. Liverpool are a more direct side than City who would hold on to the ball for longer spells. They both play out from the back but in different ways. Liverpool fullbacks are actually wingers in reality while Man City full backs like to play on the inside. The Liverpool's midfield trio's job is simple: Recover and Recycle. No frills. They are to maintain balance and keep the structure. The fullbacks and to a lesser intent the front 3 provide the creativity. Vvd and some times Matip can bring the ball out from the back so there is lesser need for Henderson and co to drop deep. The fullbacks are also comfortable tucking in in halfspaces and central areas. Trent had his football education as a 6 so that helps in this regard. All in all, it is unfair to say Liverpool midfielders are not good enough technically because they are not as prominently involved in their team's possession game. The system they play does not encourage this. |
Expert17 is right here. You can't play possession football without having technically-gifted midfielders who can hold on to the ball and pick a pass. Liverpool don't play possession football in the truest sense of the term. Yes, they might have the majority of possession in most of their games but that is down to their quality as a team rather than any system or deliberate tactics. The best teams know how to keep the ball, pass it and control the game. The degree or the level at which they do it is what separates the ones that play actual possession football e.g Barca and City from the others. |
Just saw this on Twitter. Very funny. Juliano Belletti: "When Messi came out of the Barca B team to train with our first team, Rijkaard put us in an 11 v 11 game on a small pitch. Iniesta asked me if I knew this guy. I said 'no'. He told me 'be careful'. ![]() |
lordfalcao:How far na? I no see make you post, na why i dey ask of you. Hope you dey kampe? |
While i agree Henderson didn't deserve to win the BBC player of the year award, it's surprising to see how people underrate or question his performances this season. I think most people are just so stubborn to admit that a player like Henderson could actually get better. A few years ago, he was the butt of jokes alongside other players like Cleverley, Stones and Phil Jones. Bunch of overpaid, talentless English lads, they called them. But Henderson upped his game and became a better player. He evolved into a deeper role and added other aspects to his game. He's the heartbeat of that Liverpool side. Nobody in that team embodies Liverpool as much he does. The English media may be overzealous in crowning him as the best in the land but surely the man deserves every ounce of praise he gets. Give Jordan Henderson some respect! |
Where lordfalcao dey sef? E don tay wey i see am. Hope he's safe wherever he is. Airmark paddy ![]() |
Godx:This. |
airmark:You be one wicked person walahi I don even forget about this one. Boateng na comedy gold i swear. |
Some people get stamina sha. Arguments no dey tire dem, na you go tire. Twale! |
The BBC is just out to troll us. As if Henderson winning their PL player of the season wasn't enough, Fernandes just made the team of the year after just playing 5 games. Like WTF!! |
Godx:Bros, you have no excuse when you also have Ronaldo. Ronaldo and Messi basically cancel out each other. Real Madrid definitely should have done better than winning only 2 titles in 10 years. Anybody saying otherwise is either dumb or being mischievous. |
Godx:Lmao. Nobody sees the Milan teams as juggernauts anymore. They are only living on past glories. When was the last time either side won any major trophy, never mind the league? See you trying to sell Real Madrid short . There was only a little gap between Real and Barca. Both sides were closely matched. From the playing personnel to the coaches to the spending power. Real Madrid also had the greatest goalscorer in the history of the game during that period. There's simply no excuse for Real not winning more titles. |
gensteejay:Sorry. The way some people use the word on here these days made question your intentions. LOL |
Godx:I don't agree with those who say Bayern not wnning the CL is a failure. There are so many good teams also looking to do the same. In the end, only one can win. Not winning the league is the real definition of failure. Juventus have not had any serious competition from either of the Milan clubs until recently. In fact, Napoli has proven to be a stronger competitor. Historical record has no value here when they are not even competing on the field of play. A club like Real Madrid should be winning more than 2 league titles in 10 years. Not to mention when their only competition is Barca. I was only using the French and Scottish leagues as filler examples and not as a standard by which Bayern should be judged. |
Godx:Real champions never get tired of winning. The Club still celebrates winning the league the same way as the ones won before. But obviously now the CL is the one we really want. Nevertheless, the league and cup double is the barest minimum for success at Bayern. The hypocrisy by fans of other club regarding the Bundesliga is what i don't like. Juventus has won 8 straight Serie A titles, and no one blinks an eye. Barcelona has won 7 of the last 10 titles in a league where there is also Real Madrid but it's all good. Same dominance in France and Scotland. But it is Bayern that went 2 seasons without winning the league and bounced back to win 7 in a row that is the problem. |
FirstbornWds:The same way you guys pitied PSG fans, right? Karma's a bitch. You guys pulled off Remontada not knowing you were going to be "Romantada-d" the following season. The Liverpool own naim sweet me pass Origi use una secure legendary status for Anfield ![]() |
gensteejay:I'm sorry i don't get this your reply. Are comedians not human beings? Or do you have to be a comedian to crack jokes? |
Godx:This is wrong. Everyone is always painting us as the bad guys when in reality we have done more than most in helping German football. In 2003 when Dortmund were battling insolvency, guess who helped them from going bankrupt by donating 2 million euros? Bayern. Bayern have also helped other Bundesliga clubs indirectly by paying generously for transfers. Real Madrid paid a combined sum of 32 million euros for Ozil and Khedira, despite the 2 players coming off the back of an impressive World Cup. Compare that to Bayern paying Dortmund 37 million euros for Goetze, a Bundesliga record transfer at that time and later 35 million for Hummels. They would have reasonably broke the bank for Lewy but Dortmund preferred to let him run down his contract. So you see, Bayern is not the big bad wolf you are making us out to be. |
gensteejay:I get you. I understand it's a sensitive issue and it would be stupid and inconsiderate of any commentator to say that. But i also think a lot gets in the way of a good joke. Context. Appropriateness. We live in an age where PC rules. It's almost paradoxic when you consider the clamour for freedom of speech. You are allowed to say anything but there are also certain things you can't say. Comedians are always walking that thin line. They are only one misstep away from a "racist" or "rape joke". In the end, most are forced to play safe and stick to the regular. |
eph12:You wan give a certain somebody ammo to start disturbing everyone with his rubbish arguments abi? |
Meanwhile, a year ago on this day something incredible happened at Anfield I leave you guys to figure it out ![]() |
obainojazz:I actually found it very funny. We don't always have to be politically correct and woke about everything. Humor shouldn't be unnecessarily restricted. |
airmark:I knew you were going to post this There is another meme-worthy pic of Rafinha trying to acrobatically clear the ball off the line after Messi chipped Neuer. That one looked very much like the Bundesliga logo ![]() That game pain me sha. We held our own against Barca for over 70 mins without Alaba and Robbery. Even Lewy had to wear a mask after suffering facial fracture. Messi's ingenuity was what decided that game. |
A40:Nah. He actually picked up the injury on the first day of training. I didn't know it was going to be this serious. I kinda feel for the guy. He has been unlucky with injuries and has not really had the chance to cement his place a the club. There is nothing wrong with selling him for the right price as there is also Goretzka but that would leave us short on quality in midfield. Martinez is probably leaving at the end of the season and Cuisance isn't ready yet so i think he should stay. After all we've a good history of persevering and getting the best out of crocks ![]() |
Expert17: ![]() "Tim Krul singlehandedly keeps Norwich up". Now that would be some headline. |
raumdeuter:Do you see anyone by the name of Jamie Redknapp or Kompany here on NL? Why not take it up with the aforementioned guys on social media instead of making noise here? |
Someone just suggested the remaining games in the EPL should be played as penalty shootouts ![]() It sure would make things interesting. . and faster. The league should be completed in less than 2 days by following this ingenious advice Guys, what do you think? |
iamoyindamola:Yes o! Na true. I totally forgot about Can. The guy was an utility player at Liverpool. I think he even played CB at one point under Rodgers. |
Someone is trying to twist the debate here. Oga, show us where anybody here claimed Vvd is the greatest defender of all time. We only said he is currently the best Must you always turn amala? |
iamoyindamola:The other guy beat me to it. I was also confused by the German RB. Matip has German citizenship but i don't think he is the one. |
iamoyindamola:Make i try. The first team on the left is Stoke city and i think the other team is Liverpool. |
