Dem beat Madrid dem dey happy. I dey come, make I go iron my agbada.

No wins in our last 4 games at the Allianz Arena. No clean sheets at home all season. No clear attacking plan and we can't even keep out a village team. Kovac has to go, I don't care who comes in. Even if it's Hassenhuttl or Horst Hrusbech.

I was never sold on Kovac. I remember complaining about his inability to set up his teams to play attacking football. Even the defensive solidity they said he would bring is nonexistent. He is incapable of making game changing subs.

Tuchel was my preferred choice and even with all the baggage he brings, there is no question he would have done a better job.

I'm still not buying the transition excuse. We still have a good team even if it's not of the highest quality. Was this not the same team that won the league at a canter? Was this not the same team that bossed Real Madrid over 2 legs last season? The problem is the coach.

Kalle and Ulli also are not free of blame. I just dey wait for next summer before unloading on those 2.

Yoruba Nollywood was the ish in the
90's and early 2000s. There was Tunde Kelani with Mainframe Productions churning out timeless and evergreen movies. Even before then, there was Herbert Ogunde. The turn of the century saw Bayowa Films and Music take the throne. Every movie was a hit back to back, with stars like Baba Suwe, Lepa Shandy, Moladun I even remember Obesere and Cossy Orjiakor with those massive bazookas that year.

It got so big that mainstream Nollywood stars like Tony Umez and Omotola were crossing over to act in Yoruba films.

How is this a transition season when we still field wingers with a combined age of over 70? Over half of our squad will be 30+ next year. This WAS supposed to be a transition season but it's anything but.

I'm sorry if I was a bit hard on you. It's not everyday you hear a supposed fan pray his team get humiliated in the biggest game of the season. All just because they are not playing well at the moment.

You are probably frustrated watching the team play this way but you are not the only one. Nobody here is happy also but we don't go turning our backs on the team. We can only hope things change for the better.

Another unimpressive outing by the team just as we struggled to beat a village team last time in the cup. Kovac is just buying time with this stretch of wins. Not much has changed since last month. The only difference is we are winning games, the performances have not improved one bit.

Most of them are mature enough to acknowledge Messi's greatness even while praising Ororo. You could learn a thing or two from them.

LOL. Benzema is one player I actually like a lot. He gets a lot of criticism for not scoring enough but he has never been a pure 9. He is better off as a second striker playing off a natural finisher. His link-up play is impressive, has great technique and he runs the channels well. Yes, his lack of pace and sluggishness can be frustrating. And his output as a striker for a club like Real is very disappointing. The lack of competition hasn't helped also. I think he would have raised his game a bit if there was another senior striker at the club. But still, he is a very good player, just not a great finisher.

I think the coaches at Real Madrid understand what he brings to the table. This might sound a bit crazy but I suspect Ronaldo would not score as many goals if he was playing with another striker, say someone like Lewy. Those ones would end up duplicating his runs and competing for goalscoring chances. Karim's selflessness and ability to create space is not something you see among most strikers these days.







And before you ask me; NO, I wouldn't trade Lewy for him .

I'm a little worried about Kimmich and how little rest he gets these days. I think he is the only outfield player yet to miss a single minute this season. Factor in, the games for the national team and you have an insane workload already at this stage of the season. The good thing is back up in Rafinha is back, and somewhere in my mind, I'm praying he steals that LB spot from Alaba. But we all know that's not going to happen.

You did say something about tactics in your earlier post. I personally think tactics are tad overrated. It's only commensurate to the level of talent at your disposal. The playing personnel is much more important than the tactics. I also believe less emphasis should be placed on shapes and formations and more on movement and fluidity. Something similar to Total Football.

I think the 442 has made a comeback in recent years, although in different formats. Atletico won the La Liga, Europa League and made it to 2 CL finals, playing a compact 442, 2 banks of 4, with wide midfielders(Koke and Turan/Saul), rather than natural wingers. Leicester won the PL playing a 442 much closer to the one of old. They were not dominant in midfield, I think they had one of the worst passing accuracies that year. But they had Kante, who was like 2 in 1 so they weren't exactly outmanned in midfield. And mehn, that counter attacking game with Vardy bursting into space.

Even, Real won 3 CLs in a role, playing a diamond 442 most of the time. It all depends on how you implement it. But, yeah I agree the flat 442 is a no no today.

I think in the last 15yrs football changed. Football is faster more technical the big giant players have been sacrificed for smaller, shorter, very mobile lighter players. Nowadays players cover 13-15km easily in a game, I bet in the 80s hardly will players cover 9km. Now it favours guys that can run fast and run longer. So bigger guys will suffer

Also it eliminated specialists for generalists. Think of it, when did the requirement for a goalkeeper start including playing with his feet. Older keepers are just evaluated based on the saves they can make and reflexes now their ball playing skills is almost as important as shot stopping

Now Central defenders. Gone were the days when the job of a defender is to stop attack and boot the ball away, Now every defender has to be able to play from the back even if their defensive abilities suffer. Also rules of the games have changed, the tackles you shake hands over in the 80s will land you in jail now, Center backs were allowed to be slow and mean. Now they have to be as fast as everyone. Tactics changed too. Now its more dependent on space than before, thats why almost every top team will play a high line and have a 40yards free space between last defender and keeper. So pace is key.

For a DM before it was ability to tackle, now its your ability to cover space and pass(Busquets). The AM of old were hardly required to do any defensive work, they were the king just pass the ball to them and they will create chances with their brilliance and elegance, Nowadays they are expected to run and press. Wingers are not only expected to cross they are expected to be a major source of goals. The olden days winger got dropped to full backs(Jesus Navas, Young, Valencia)

Now to attack, This is where the 9 suffered because they couldn't cope with the pace, they got eliminated almost completely and the Support striker who had more ball holding skills, who can drop deep were made to bulk up and play as lone strikers, Most strikers for top clubs at the beginning of their careers were support strikers. Morata Lewandoski, Benzema Suarez, Aguero, Henry, RvP. Its not uncommon to evaluate strikers on how much they can hold up play, pass, play with their back to goal instead of the old fashioned fox in the box who just stick it in the net

Tactics also changed. 4-4-2 which was the preferred tactics then favored target men. Now a 442 will most certainly lose to a 443, 5231 or 451 because the 2 men in front wont even get the ball since the midfield will be outnumbered

Also football went more scientific not just based on natural abilities, modern techniques were introduced into training, diets and match analysis where every coach is using technology to gain some advantage. Before its common to see footballers drink and smoke. Mario Basler was a chain smoker, Old highlights of matches I have seen some players smoke on the sidelines. Nowadays you cannot, you are placed on a strict diet and training regimen.

Football changed and the target men were the major casualty

I think modern footballers are very privileged. Sport science has made huge leaps in the last decade or so. Players now have an army of physios tending to their every need. Shorter recovery time in between matches, thanks to the ice rooms and sub-zero baths. Injuries are now well diagnosed and treated so much that it's not so uncommon to see a player make a return ahead of schedule.

And what about the money? Back then, most played the game for passion. There were part-time footballers, who did it only for the love of the game. There are stories of some paying out of their own pockets just to take care of some team expenses. But there are no such worries for the modern footballer. The take-home pay alone for the week is more than most people earn in a year. Not to talk of bonuses and other add ons.

There has never been a better time to be a professional footballer but the stakes have also never been higher. It all looks sweet and rosy from the outside but the mental and emotional pressure these guys face especially at the highest level is brutal. The expectations of the most demanding of fans, the suffocating gaze of the media. Even the most resolute of players can break down under such intense pressure. Only recently, Carrick revealed he battled depression during one of the most successful periods in his career. Aaron Lennon had to take some time off from football last year due to some personal issues. Little wonder most of these clubs now employ psychologists and shrinks to whom the players can open up to.

Most of the time, i'm cynical about these things. After all, they make loads of money and live the life many can only dream of. Why should I give a damn about how they feel? But you can't help but feel for them sometimes. It's a tough job.
